Firsties? Really? That’s quite a feat considering that I have my smartphone in one hand and a Mai Tai in the other.
Your hands are full, sir.
Hard to tickle that third leg.
Is that what he calls it now? ๐
Perhaps he could “phone a friend”?
So I finally get a wired xbox 360 controller so I could actually play Spelunky (I don’t have a enough fingers for keyboard play) , turns out the the way the screen updates on my laptop gives me an headache after extended play.
Ah well.
I’m up for a Big Trouble palooza.
You make me weep with joy
Steady now, no hanky panky.

Morning Pan
It’s a beautiful day out today.
Time to buy food for my cupboard.
Back soon.
Groceries have been bought. Kitty litter has been changed. Garbage has been taken out. Now, audio edits.
Holy lord its an honest to god show!!!
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to listen to it until some time tomorrow.
Not sure if some kind of parody…or I’m just not Chinese enough to appreciate this.
CP: Clash (Live In Paris) — Caravan Palace
Just came back from a walk. It’s starting to get too warm to walk in the afternoon. May have to carve out some time in the morning instead.
As EssBee recently learned firsthand, and as you and Van may recall, it gets a bit hot here too for afternoon walks.
I was not brave enough to walk later than 6 a.m.
It might not get Arizona hot on this side of the pond, but sunburn is awaiting for the careless afternoon walker.
Usually a careless walker gets a double tap.
And he’s never gonna dance again.
Reporting on correct Show. Ugh
Who is ISIS??
In other news, congrats to Mike Modano, I would kiss him if I knew it would not get apprehended.
A Muslim organisation that wants to form a caliphate that covers most of Iraq and Syria.
That noise you can hear is Dan Simmons grinding his teeth..
Rob Blake, Mike Modano, Dominik Hasek, Peter Forsberg, and best of all – – Pat Burns. A very deserving hall of fame class. Pat Burns kissing the Stanley Cup was enough for me.
For the TL;DR set (which includes me, since I skimmed it):
“The Central Intelligence Agency used American modern art – including the works of such artists as Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko – as a weapon in the Cold War.”
“Why did the CIA support them? Because in the propaganda war with the Soviet Union, this new artistic movement could be held up as proof of the creativity, the intellectual freedom, and the cultural power of the US. Russian art, strapped into the communist ideological straitjacket, could not compete.”
So we righted a wrong in the universe this evening. Desert Pixie has now seen Young Frankenstein.
Oh gawd, I first saw it when I was in the army cadets as a teenager, a shining light in an otherwise horrible experience.
Roll Roll, Roll in Z hay!
Ain’t got no boooooody and… nobody cares for me… yackataka a yachataka
At the flicks waiting for ‘3 Days to kill’ to start. Kevin Costner does his Liam Neeson impression..
That was painfully bad.
I have to disagree, but it certainly wasn’t great. I rather enjoyed the black humor once the movie got going.
Gods, I had no idea. I never assume accusation = guilt, but the evidence seems to overwhelmingly condemn her and her husband. Never read her, now never will.
Serious disgusted UGH
Next work travel for me is Houston July 14 โ July 18 or so. Not so far from where Mr. From Texas resides. Let me know if you (or anyone that just happens to be in the Houston area) want to have dinner or something. I will be working at the airport and will not have a rental car, so I can only go where the public transportation (if any exists in that area) goes.
Asshat is good company! We had fun meeting up with him during his last AZ trip.
Thanks Jack (and Pixie, who was also there)! You guys were great company too.
New Joy Formidable song! In Welch! Its good!
I keep expecting Scott Pilgrim to walkin.
No that’s Chistopher…
Vonnegut’s Cats Cradle is 99p on kindle, I’m tempted.

Although tempting, I did not run away to become an Eddie Izzard groupie. I did however go bowling and play miniature golf for work. This job is definitely different than my last :).

Thankfully my phone doesn’t ‘t smell as bad as the library copy of CC I read years ago.
And so it goes.

thats all.
Just to clarify, would he be running, she be running, you be running, or all be running?
wow… the possibilities…
*slips on my Nikes*
Make sure you warm and and stretch really good, first.
When (and why) did we, as a culture, loose the concept that hips are sexy? Somewhere along the way, our society decided that shape in women is only allowed in the chest. I lament for the loss of beautiful bodies and apologize to anyone that finds this a sexist (I am an asshat after all) post. Maybe we need a set of public service announcements modeled after old Wendy’s commercials with someone yelling “where’s the hips?”
More disturbing: the second link led to an image of a squirrel.
Ouch. How the hell did I manage that. Cant’ exactly google images of Mila Kunis at work. I’ll try again when I’m at home later. Sorry.
Lets give this a try for a Mila shot that shows what I’m talking about:
David Bowie should now apologize for his pants in Labyrinth.
A hiccup in the plans, things set in stone may have been set in quicksand.
I really read this as “A hiccup in the pants”. Damn I need breakfast.
Will breakfast really help? Really?

Thanks for the visual…..where’s the brain bleach ๐
Dont blame me, its Van’s pants.

How would you know? Have you been hacking my webcam again?
Well, after weeks of playing with it, I have decided the quality of this audio book is beyond repair. I think it would have taken me less time to have the thing completely re-recorded than it took for me to reach this conclusion.

Your crap joke for the day:
“You never surprise me” a woman moaned one day to her long suffering husband.
“Buy me a surprise for my birthday. Something that can accelerate from 0 to 150 in under 4 seconds, …… and I’d prefer a blue one!”, she hinted.
Happy and excited she was counting down the days for her birthday.
And finally she got the beautiful present her husband had thoughtfully chosen for her …..
On that note, a somewhat conservative co-worker from Alabama and I were trapped in the DFW airport together last Tuesday, and she asked me if my wife and I had any kids. You could’ve knocked me over with a feather.
Serious question or “oh I better ask cause these people are winning” question?
Serious question!
Well looky there!
If you recall Krazy Joe’s Deadpan appearance, he is a devout Bush-supportin’, Obama-hatin’ Conservative who expressed his strong belief that gays should have the same freedoms as straights. That seems to be the prevailing outlook, here in the futuristic year of 2014.
I’m down. The Road Warrior is one of the few films to ever do the post-apocalyptic wasteland right.
Well, that and the Tom Petty video for “You Got Lucky.”
โHeโs a rebooted Mad Max, but itโs a new interpretation.โ
So I have no trouble with them doing a re-imagining of this film … but if it is a different film, why not just give it a different name? Why couldn’t they drop the “Mad MAx” and just call it “Furry Road” ?
Things that make you go “Hmmmmm”.
Just following up from above – there won’t be any wedding bells for us. We’re pretty happy with what we have. We can still celebrate the news in October!

Aww, I was hoping to catch the bouquet. . .

Ok so the US loses today but moves on still because of something something something? Soccer makes my brain hurt.
I knew I would regret following that link. Sigh. Why did I?
My former boss, FIFA fanatic, just said “my favorite thing about Ann Coulter is that when someone likes her it’s the first and last thing I ever need to know about them”
“The fading right-wing troll…”
hehe
That’s all I got from that link. It’s all I needed.
It’s actually pretty simple. Goal differential is a pretty common way to rank teams during round robin play.

Well hopefully I will be able to book my aeroplane tickets next week, just need to confirm a few things.

Still enjoying ‘Halt and Catch Fire’.
Catching up to Van’s Eli Wallach obituary post from yesterday:
I only just realized he was “The Ugly” from “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” Possibly one of the most iconic performances of all time. RIP, Il Cattivo.
Just reading in the latest Ansible that Eli wrote in his autobiography he got more mail for playing Mr Freeze in the 60’s Batman than for any other role in his career.
Gawd I can be terribly too British at times, I can assure my upper lip is not starched.
Van, we’re watching a British cop show on Hulu – Bailey and Scott or something. Why do those women call each other “cock”?
I’ve watched the show and never understood that.
Dammit, Van, you were supposed to be our cultural interpreter on this one.
We really enjoy the show.
cock
So, hat’s off to your nation.
I suspect a local variation like the way some up here add Pet when talking:
You alright Pet?
OOOH, I’d like you to start asking me that at least weekly.
Boy, the Sunday Comics section would have been a different thing if Andy Capp used “cock” in place of “pet.”
Dammit, Manga! How many times do I have to slap you at the mmmmeetup now? I’ve lost count….

And dont you let that Anime off the hook either, Ed!
The slaps will be still action poses in front of fast moving, colorful backgrounds.
Any chance they will be done with a fish?
Only if you join in the Rockies, JJ. I’m sure Jack would let me slap him with a fish if you were there to see it ๐
David Tennant reading How to Train Your Dragon is pretty brilliant. That is all for now
How can the rest of us enjoy?
I wouldn’t recommend the books. This is clearly a case of the movie being much, much, much better than the book. Though David Tennant reading it could be fun. ๐
I borrowed mine from the library, but kindle is the best option right now for purchase
A customer was continually bothering the waiter in a restaurant. First, he asked that the air conditioning be turned up because he was too cold, then he asked that it be turned down because he was too hot, and so it went for about a half an hour.Surprisingly, the waiter was very patient. He walked back and forth and never once got angry. Finally, a second customer asked the waiter why he didn’t throw out the pest.”Oh, I don’t care,” said the waiter with a smile. “We don’t even have an air conditioner.”

Sounds fun! Did you cosplay as Van?
Only if Van is secretly a galactic hitchhiker. ๐ I wore jeans and my homemade souvenir T-shirt from Milliways, and carried a towel. It was fun, and there will be more tomorrow.
Well I did own a dressing gown.
Over the course of the weekend, I ran into two or three Arthur Dents, whom I identified as such by their dressing gowns. ๐

My Boo is completely moved out of their apartment and it has been made spotless. The inspection is today, then they can take their time unpacking. Boo and I both pushed ourselves so we are both planning to to nothing today. My nothing consists of video games and reading. Not sure what her nothing is. Probably sleeping until noon, then then same thing as me.
I was going to to dome grocery shopping today but decided “screw it”. I’ll do it tomorrow.
Hubby is still in Atlanta and will be until Wednesday.

Watched the first ep of The Last Ship. Pretty good. It strikes me as a re-imagining of On The Beach.
Alan Rickman has a lot to answer for.
As in this show, or is there some other recent history of his career that he needs to redeem himself from?
Well he started a trend when he was in Die Hard.

There is the Robin Hood movie.
Got back from Edge of Tomorrow. We rather liked it, even with the Hollywood ending. ๐
Finally got my car battery charged, installed, started the car … and oil poured out the bottom as something failed catastrophically in the engine.
Got that cleaned up off the driveway and decided to mow the yard. It started raining.
Finally stopped raining, so I hurriedly got the mower back out to try and get the lawn mowing in, between rain showers … immediately threw a drive belt off the mower. Have now spent an hour laying on the ground trying to force the belt back on or get the damned pulley bolt loosened. Neither has occurred.
#havingoneofTHOSEdays
Mower dismantled, parts and tools all over the driveway. The sky suddenly opened up and rain is pouring down.
Sweet.
I am going to go crawl back into bed.
JJ. Doing more before rain then most people do all day.
addendum: didn’t go back to bed.
Got a pint of ice cream and a spoon then sat down and watched Costa Rica vs. Greece soccer.
I shall now try and convince the mower to behave.
“Lavendar Fields Forever.”
We cut our own lavendar bouquet, as we strolled amongst the purple-hued, fragrant fields of eastern Arizona high country.
There were bees. Lots and lots of bees. Apparently, they were drunk on lavendar juice.

Crap joke for the day:
A man and a little boy entered a barbershop together. After the man received the full treatment – shave, shampoo, manicure, haircut, etc. – he placed the boy in the chair.”I’m goin’ to buy a green tie to wear for the parade,” he said. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”When the boy’s haircut was completed and the man still hadn’t returned, the barber said, “Looks like your daddy’s forgotten all about you.” “That wasn’t my daddy,” said the boy. “He just walked up, took me by the hand and said, ‘Come on, son, we’re gonna get a free haircut!'”
No hyperlink, now? I apparently fail at this today.

Anyone have a chance to see the movie, Snowpiercer, yet?
I’m curious
Not yet, on my list to see.
On the DVD front, that Captain Phillips movie was pretty exciting.
(This is the Tom Hanks movie about a harrowing Somali pirate encounter, not to be confused with Captain Ron, about the wacky hijinks of Martin Short on a boat with Kurt Russell.)
Preferred the latter because Kurt Russell.

Watched “WWZ” on Netflix last night.
I found it to be an about average zombie film.
I was entertained but then again I had not read the book(Graphic Novel?) so I had no expectations.
Just watched “Iron Sky”.
It was okay. Kind of a mess, but a fun little action pic with some nice visuals.
On a scale of 1 – 5 I’d give it a 3.
Well actually maybe a 2.5 but I’ll throw in an extra .5 for villainesses in leather.
False. Its a perfect schlocky out of 5.
I liked it because of, and despite, its super camp.
Final movie of the evening was “Odd Thomas”
Took a while to get going, had an awful lot of set-up to get you into it’s world but by the last third it sucked you in.
Worth a viewing.

Crap joke for the day:
On the sixth day God turned to the Archangel Gabriel and said, ‘Today I am going to create a land called Canada. It will be a land of outstanding natural beauty; it shall have tall majestic mountains full of mountain goats and eagles, and beautiful sparkly lakes bountiful with carp and trout. There shall be forests full of elk and moose, high cliffs overlooking sandy beaches with an abundance of sea life, and rivers stocked with salmon.’God continued, ‘I shall make the land rich in oil so to make the inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants Canadians, they shall be known as the most friendly people on the earth.’..’But Lord,’ responded Gabriel, ‘don’t you think you are being too generous to these Canadians?’..’No, not really.’ God replied……….’Just wait and see the neighbours I am going to give them.’
Will read… but I remember not too far back bemoaning the fact that I heard Sleigh Bells on a Honda commercial, Quieens of the Stone Age on T-Mobile, Tegan and Sara on M&M’s…etc. It all makes sense now.
What do you mean hubby’s plane is running an hour late? That will never do!

Well it’s looking like this weekend and following week plan just went up in smoke.
Ah well I shan’t miss the midge bites.
Or maybe not.
According to my dream last nite, Katy Perry is terrible in bed. Also the boobs are very deceiving.
“Also the boobs are very deceiving.”
Thus the famous WWII saying, “Loose Tits Sink Ships!”
wait … I may have that wrong
You dont!
Very deceiving as in fake?
As in, “Wait I thought I was getting D cups. These are clearly high Bs”
I had some very deceiving boobs sell me a magazine subscription once that I never received.
It was a valuable lesson.
Look give the kid a break. He was trying to get to Des Moines.
Speaking of boobs, it looks like Jewell is back on the market! Go get her, boys!

So, this is all over my Facebook feed. It is an interesting and eye-catching story. I have mixed feelings about her decision, but mostly, I think it is courageous to tell her story and to make a discreet and not-so-pleasant topic, public.
Butโฆ Im guessing her pic is airbrushed and those ostomy bags were put on 5 minutes before she took the picture. (and I will leave it at that, so as not to go into disgusting poop talk)
thoughts?
My $0.02: she shouldn’t be shamed for wearing a bikini.
Are people really making a big deal of this? No one should object to her wearing it in public, unless she’s coming over and emptying the bag on or near their stuff. I suppose her actions could lead to further cultural awareness and acceptance of something most of us automatically find repulsive. . . So sure, give her some points for that.
I’m not sure it’s any big deal.
Does she WANT to wear a bikini? Then wear the bikini.
No one wears something like that to begin with if they are really worried about what others think.
If you don’t care what other people might think about seeing you in a bikini, why should the bags or only having one arm or a having a giant birth mark make you feel differently about wearing the bikini?
I think the short answer is that people, in general, are just plain mean. And we, at least in this country, are shallow and self-centered and mean.

I nearly fell down laughing.
The Raid: Redemption gets a giant ‘Lo Pan approved’. Anyone seen the second?
We loved the first one!!!
Have yet to see the sequel, but its on our list!
From what Ive read it surpasses the original. Impressive
My biggest complaint about Dredd is that it was a bit too similar to Raid. I shall now go add Raid 2 to the queue.
I don’t think anybody proved deliberate copying by the Dredd makers, just coincidence.
I agree, Van. I think this was one of those cases where two similar ideas came through the same year ala “The Prestige” and “The Illusionist”
It wasn’t plagiarism, no, just too reminiscent. I liked Dredd too.
(I do have one other complaint, but it’s a storytelling grump and super spoilery. I can share separately, if anyone really wants to discuss).

Your crap joke for the day:
Father William, the old priest, made it a practice to visit the parish school one day a week. He walked into the 4th grade class, where the children were studying the states, and asked them how many states they could name. They came up with about 40 names. Father William jokingly told them that in his day students knew the names of all the states. One lad raised his hand and said, ‘Yes sir, but in those days there were only 13 states.

Happy 4th to all.
Happy Independence Day to us US !
Have fun everyone!
Stumbled upon “Independence Day” on the TV while the extended family was over enjoying my tasty burgers for the 4th.
Our commentary was a lot of “Oh, he was in this?” and “Man, they look so young!”
We were watching Captain America, and I noticed that Dr. Who’s current companion is one of the dates at the start of the movie. I also forgot there was a nice Raiders of the Lost Ark homage too.
And, in other news, “The Name of the Wind” just didn’t blow me away as I’d hoped.
Ah.
I thought it might have been a “Bio-Pic” about the founder of Bush’s Baked Beans.

Yea!

So it appears I’m on the menu for bugs loitering in the Scottish Borders yet again.
Must/not/scratch
Sigh
So. In english?
Ooooo I’ll give it a go! “Iโm on the menu” = single and in demand “bugs loitering” = “Ski Bunnies who just hang around in the lodge” Scottish Borders = This one is difficult. It’s either something to do with the length of his Kilt … or something to do with Haggis.
Scottish Borders = tantric regions beneath the kilt.
Oh.
… oHHHHHH!
“Must/not/scratch”
Clearly, this is a post about billiards.
Ok but bugs and (unfortunately) snow bunnies wont be allowed in my house…
But you’ll allow the Scottish Border
if its not Scottish… its crap
Sadly that sounds far interesting than the reality.

Ray Park has similar skillz and he was the best part of Ep. 1. I think youre safe.

I just made my hotel reservation for the Deadpan MMMMMeetup in Denver. I will be coming in to town as early as I can on Sunday morning (because I don’t have any more vacation time I can use, sorry) and leaving on Monday evening. Can’t wait to see y’all! ๐
I also had an engine start puking oil last week.
I couldn’t face the music. Just rolled the car back to the side of the driveway, put a cover on it and am pretending it didn’t happen.
I’m guessing gaskets but you’d have to pull the engine to replace them.
I’m not ready to face that music.
Ah, that is much more a piece of shit situation than mine. I used gasket generically… its actually blowing out anti-freeze… but with my budget that’s enough. Not to mention our main car nees 600$ of work. Boy me hates autos.
Unfortunately my car is stuck in a supermarket parking lot, so I gotta do somethin.
An anti-war song with a sense of humour:
CUDDLE
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.
Escalation* could be bliss.
Start off with a cuddle; end up with a kiss.
Cuddle a Frenchman from gay Paree.
Sit yourself upon his knee.
Run your fingers through his hair,
And leave the rest to laissez-faire.
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.
Escalation* could be bliss.
Start off with a cuddle; end up with a kiss.
Cuddle a Russian, a peasant hussar.
Let him show you his samovar.
They say the Russians all say “nyet.”
I’ve never had that answer yet.
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.
Escalation* could be bliss.
Start off with a cuddle; end up with a kiss.
Cuddle an Indian; do it with verve,
Then you’ll break down that brave’s reserve.
Get into a big powwow,
Then he’s bound to show you “how”โ
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.
Escalation* could be bliss.
Start off with a cuddle; end up with a kiss.
Cuddle an Australian, a wizard of Oz,
On the beach with Santa Claus.
Rub his back with suntan oils,
And wait until his billy boils.
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.
Escalation* could be bliss.
Start off with a cuddle; end up with a kiss…

I went out to bring the garbage bin in from the curb and someone is cooking bacon. It smells nummy outside.
Now I am hungry! ๐
A friend of mine posted a pic of Bacon-flavored mayo.
Why didnt I think of that!?!
Self preservation ?
Might as well slather it on a corn dog.

Maybe if you slathered them in bacon mayo?

Your crap joke for the day:
A Bear walks into a bar and asks the barman:
“Can I have two………………..pints of beer please?”
The barman replies:
“Ok but why the big pause?”
The bear replies:
“I don’t know I was born this way…”
..and your bonus crap joke:
Three people are out sailing when suddenly a hand appears in the sea.
“What’s this?” asked the skipper, “It looks as if someone is drowning!”
“No,” explained his crew, “It’s just a little wave.”

I’m considering getting some noise cancelling headphones but I’m left wondering how well they work.
In my experience, a decent set does a good job where you have a droning constant type of noise like on a airplane or train. Not so well at trying to silence annoying coworkers in an open office.
Also, cheap ones that I’ve had the misfortune to use seem to just crank up their own volume to try to drown out the outside noise, rather than really cancelling anything outside.
Thanks Ed.
Of course!
I still like Adam Levine.
Give all your money to Adam Levine…
He’s rich enough. Of course he was before he decided to be in Maroon 5. Doesn’t mean conceit doesn’t have some talent.

Good Morning Pan!
It’s a beautiful day here in Canadaland!
The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the squirrels are frolicking, and hubby is working from home today.
I gave my kitty some pink milk this morning. I’m pretty sure she got more on her face than in her tummy.
Believe it or not, this message is free of snark and sarcasm.
OMG, I can contribute to 1/3 of this conversation!
I’ve read the first two Manhattan Projects paperbacks, which I assume are omnibus editions of the periodical comics releases.
It’s brilliant, bloody, and completely nuts. Sometimes a bit too out there, but still worth your time, if you can tolerate a bit of mania.
How I think a real Dumbledore vs. Gandalf showdown would go:
Gandalf: Dubledore my old friend. How are things at Hogwarts?
Dumbledore: A bit of a kerfuffle with the dark one. All worked out in the end though. How about Middle earth?
Gandalf: Much the same old bean. Much the same. Some leaf and wine for you?
Dumbledore: Certainly.
Not exactly an interesting showdown, but what would you expect from two wise good old farts?
Enter Harry Dresden. And…. go
Dumbledore seems to have the Love Prowess category in hand.
Er, no pun intended…..
You know, I sometimes always need a beer.
Although CO brews are good for the locals, is there any imports you would like us to bring with us in October?
Oh… Cynful…. this deserves a post all its own
PS… CO brews are good for more than just the locals ;P
I misphrased ๐
What I meant is I would like to try some CO brews, but since they are familiar to you, are there any you would like us to bring in from other areas for you to try. I know, don’t post when you’re half asleep ๐

Primus’ “Tales From the Punchbowl” is a forgotten 90s masterpiece. Truly
ugh. Calgon, take me away. And by ‘Calgon’ I mean ‘cocaine’.
FYI, Ive never done cocaine…but I’m 90% sure if offered I’d do it in an instant.
Would Beecham’s powder do?
Didnt he host a kids science show in the 90’s?
No, but I’m pretty sure the creators of that show were hitting the Calgon pretty hard.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any Animaniacs. Might have to do something about that.

Luther is still on TV?!!?!
Why dont I have access to it?
All 3 seasons are on Netflix streaming.
Take note, Jack!
Must add to list
I know, I know. . . I just couldn’t get through the Luther pilot episode. Much as I man-loved Idris in The Wire, it’s gonna take a LOT to get me to watch yet another police procedural.
You know you’ve reached “that certain age” when you just can’t get up for yet . one . more police procedural drama.

Thats great they closed that hoyel’s kitchen, but what about the source of the problem– those two “illegal” cows?! I would expect the soil they ate grass from would be contaminated…
As a healthcare professional, who cares for critically ill patients every day, who exhibit ALL of the symptoms this article lists for Anthrax exposure; it is incredibly challenging to pinpoint the cause of so many GI and respiratory infections. I think our lab testing procedures could really use an overhaul and ingenuity to help us pinpoint infectious processes faster.
Scary
*Deadpan Summer Stock Theatre’s re-inactment of current lab proceedures*
“Hey, intern/summer student/custodial staff member, come here and drink this. Thanks. Now … how do you feel?”
It sounds simple to me: every person who exhibits those symptoms has anthrax.
You get Anthrax! And you get Anthrax! And YOU get Anthrax!
Would you say theyre spreading the disease? Disease. Disease.

The Ramones will always top my list of bands I regret never seeing. Nirvana and Lush also come to mind
Not by way of bragging but by way of celebrating what the Romone’s gave us, I can say that I did see them and the experience (for it was very much crowd participation) is one of the memorable highlights from my life.
Thanks Joey, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee, Tommy.

Would have been the late 80’s/very early 90’s.
Saw them at an old Steel Mill that had been converted to an amphitheater .
It was my first encounter with what I could only call a “professional” mosh pit.
It was PACKED and the slam dancing looked like a riot going on but when ever anyone got knocked to the ground. hands shot out of the crowd and latterly picked them up and set them back on their feet.
It was like everyone knew that if someone got killed, the party would be over. So some how it stayed just short of actual, major bodily injury.

‘To kill a Mocking bird’ was free on the Kindle store over the weekend.
Last read the novel doing in English literature classes when I was 15/16. I had made a cockup and not revised the book for the exam..luckily my memory was far better then.
Ummm and that was not meant as a reply to Lo’s post.
Weekend update – we got to see the new version of Robocop. Definitely a different vision than the original and, while it certainly had some issues (and the original wasn’t exactly Citizen Kane, either) overall I think it worked.
Where the original had the world of Robocop set many decades into the future from the 1980’s, this one is probably at that same point but the recognition that we are much closer to making such things real and where drone robots are a fact of life. Sort of how Star Trek has to keep becoming more futuristic with each incarnation as the “future” tech of the previous versions is in many ways now in our past tech wise.
The original seemed focused more criticism of consumerism and featured a corporate run dystopia. Now, those predictions have come true in many ways. This new version I think makes a more serious attempt to address the questions of what makes a man and what limits on liberty are we willing to tolerate.
Like I say, certainly not perfect, but I think it succeeds more than it fails.
Her. WOW, what a film. A tremendous work of art by Spike Jonze.
It was fascinating on many levels, yet a minimalistic approach. Bravo acting. I loved this movie!
“Her” might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it really is a brilliant film. So much to process. It would make good Palooza material.
I actually missed it at the cinema and had to get it by other means.
I enjoyed it and it had a very 60/70’s vibe (the way the future looked) to me.

Today hubby and I both visit the vampires. Lucky, lucky, us.
I love ESPN’s ad department. Most of these things seem to have nothing really to do with what they sell … but they get people talking.
I sometimes wonder if the 20-somethings who did spots like this for MTV when it first got started … grew up and found a home over at ESPN.
I just got a notice for an upcoming show. Part of me is intrigued and part of me is just worried. “Swamp Murders”

Drawing to the end of my re-read of “Queen of the Damned”, book 3 of Anne Rice’s Vampire series, and really enjoying the revisit. . . It’s such a richly detailed world with such vibrant characters; this really needs to be the next major Cable TV series.
I first read the whole thing in the 90s when there were only 5 books, and I know she’s written many more since. Done properly, it could easily go 10 seasons.

This is your gentle reminder that we’re planning a summer Palooza for Big Trouble in Little China. Ed had a clever idea for the Palooza name, which escapes me at the moment. . .
Anyway, that is all. Carry on.
I’ll re-watch it this weekend. I wonder if hubby will be available to talk…
It’s sitting on my network waiting for me to hit the play button.

What’s a workable deadline for everyone to submit their audio (and visual?) reactions?
I should also post a note to the FB page.

Ok Friday morning “wha?” trivia –
Name the first movie based on a Marvel comic book. No google! (I’m not counting the 1944 Captain America serial because they were “Timely Comics” back then)
And go!
You win. I can’t do it without Google.
I couldnt either. I had to verify that was the truth.
Do TV movies count?
Theatrical. There were TV movies?
Wasnt it Daredevil?
No it was 8 years before Daredevil!
Was it Buffy the Vampire Slayer is awesome?
*slowly shakes head*
And I love me some Kristy Swanson
Who?
Dont you do that.
I don’t know my Marvel from my DC …
gonna guess Superman. If that is the wrong universe then I am going to guess Spiderman.
The early Spiderman TV films got a theatrical release in the UK.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, back when Sony got the rights. I think that was mid-to-late 80s.
Spider-Man on the Electric Company!

Last night the weather did it’s best Gordon Sumner impersonation. Personally, I’d prefer it to actually rain.

I’ve never seen it. Likely never will.
I do recall the Spider-Man (and Captain America!) TV films in the 70s that Van mentioned.
Meaning Lo Pan’s link. Although I assume the 1978 Dr. Strange movie is crap too?
Assumed.
It’s a product of it’s times.
But John Mills slumming it is still a sight to behold.
I remain unconvinced. What’s the source of this claim?
My research. Thats the source. Go ahead, find another theatrical Marvel film released before it.
Well depending on the country we already have.
No. We havent.
Yeah we have, a TV movie is still a movie, and that pilot was released theatrically overseas so unless you specify US only, the first marvel character to get released in cinemas was SpiderMan not Howard the duck.
Nope. That’s a TV film. Its didnt get released in cinema it got released on TV. It was made for TV. Its a TV film. I suppose because Britney Spears’ concert was shown in theaters that makes it a theatrical release. Nope. Howard the Duck was the first theatrical film with a Marvel character. And its not “US only” unless youre discounting the rest of the counties that arent the UK. Because its the first in those locals as well
Yes but it’s still a film that got a theatrical release in the UK and other countries.
You didn’t specify in your original question that it had to be non TV.
So for people outside the US, the first Marvel character to be seen in the cinemas was Spiderman.
I did after ditto asked me to specify, right below my original question. So poppycock to you
But you didn’t even know there were TV movies till ditto brought it up.
…and since the Spiderman pilot was released in UK cinemas before it got to TV the TV movie actually became a movie in the UK.
..and now I will unscramble an egg, it will take me a while though, don’t hold your breath.
I was being facetious you egg unscrambling word twisting history revisionist fiend! You maybe probably cant break this brain!
“The film premiered on CBS on September 14, 1977.”
Yup. TV release. Not theatrical.
You missed out:

theatrical film
noun Movies.
a film made for exhibition in theaters, as distinguished from one made for television.

Based on the Random House Dictionary, ยฉ Random House, Inc. 2014.
But the definition doesn’t cover when a film is shown in cinemas overseas FIRST.
“A FILM MADE FOR EXHIBITION IN THEATERS, as distinguished from one made for television!”
“The film premiered on CBS on September 14, 1977. It was later shown theatrically overseas”

In the UK at least, the first Marvel character to be seen in the cinemas was Spiderman not Howard the Duck.
Now I need a rabbits foot.
And now that youve completely re-wrote the question… off to bed with you
What he told you was true….from a certain point of view…
Dont you Ben me over.

This is probably the most attention Howard the Duck has received…ever.
George Lucas will be extra gentle with you for doing that.
That’s the thing. We all should have seen the future of George thru this movie.

I recall the barkeep in my Rolling Rock days telling me I needed to try Sierra Nevada, and being appalled.
Ah, life was simpler then.
So just finished ‘Havana Bay’ by Martin Cruz Smith.
I’ve only see the film ‘Gorky Park’ based on one of his novels, so this was the first of his novels I actually got round to reading.
Enjoyed it, slow build up (almost gave up at one point) but once Arkady survives the first murder attempt the plot starts cooking.
A bit too much exposition near the end from the bad guys (no twirling moustaches though), but I will certainly check out more of Cruz’s novels in the future.
Anybody else just want to drive up into mountains and take a long nap in cooler weather today?
Lo and I don’t have that option as we both live in mountains.
We need to find a different way to cool off.
Antarctica?
Morning Pan!
Today is suppose to be the start of another hot spell.
I’m reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. I think this is the first time I’ve actually read this novel. I’m about 25% through and I want you all to know that, so far, it’s nothing like any movie I’ve seen, ever. I’m very disapointed with Hollywood right now.
The Branagh directed one with Robert De Niro playing the monsters is claimed to be the most faithful adaption.
I read that and Dracula back-to-back one year around Halloween. Dracula’s a bit closer, but yeah. . . . in both cases, you can almost picture the 1930s Hollywood mogul with his top hat and monocle, chewing his cigarette holder stem, saying “No, no, THIS is how I want you to make the picture. Mah, see?”
Hi! I’ve been very busy and very absent – miss you all!
Catching up on memememe:
-Long remodeling project at our house slowly killing me, but a big step closer to being finished when we were able to haul our appliances back inside after them being outside for 6 weeks waiting on a floor install. NEVER buy flooring from Home Depot.
-I had a MRI on my shoulder last week and just learned that I have a “very significant rotator cuff tear.” I see a surgeon Friday – looks like I might be in for a few days in the hospital, but trying not to get ahead of myself.
-I’m going to a funeral today. It’s a co-worker’s father’s funeral. Her mom died around 2 months ago, so super sad.
-We started watching Orphan Black and LOVE IT. We also are extremely in love with The Fosters.

EssBee!
-Yay!
-Boo

-Orphan Black season 1 is pretty good.
What Jack said but:
1) add *hugs* where appropriate… even where inappropriate.
2) We quite enjoyed season 2 of Orphan Black as well. Apparently they haven’t heard if it’s been renewed for a third season yet. It better be.
Yes to all Jack said.
I’m 99% certain I read that Orphan Black is renewed for a third season. And, also once again, Tatiana Maslany was not nominated for any awards – there is indeed no justice.
well the BBC America site seems to be doing a countdown to 2015:
Although it seems the servers are getting a hammering by how slow the site is responding.
200 radioactive spiders to Van for this find! I may give it a shot.
The server issues make using it a PITA for now
Takes multiple tries to get an issue, and the iOS app doesn’t seem to save your position.
Another quirk, I was reading through a series of Black Widow and issue 4 was not visible by browsing or searching in the app. Yet it could be downloaded by getting to the end of issue 3.
Well the tumbleweeds are back in force.
That – really, really – needs to be our band name.
Van and the Tumbleweeds.
Insert music by Ennio Morricone.
Seeing Local H, Helmet, and Filter tonite. Very excited to see Helmet for first time and Local H again. Not a big Filter fan tho.
/ME!!!
Helmet? They’re still around? Awesome!
Yup. The cool thing is their set will be them playing their third album, ‘Betty’, in its entirety. Rare treat! Wanna come? ๐
The wildlife are out in force today. This morning there was a bunny cleaning itself on our lawn. Now there are squirrels playing on our fence. All we need is to see deer walking down the street and the day will be complete.
How about a moose?
We don’t get moose in our neighbourhood. Deer are more common. Last year, while I didn’t see it, there was a black bear warning issued for our neighbourhood.
If you have a card that says you can steal an item from another player, does that apply ONLY to an item they have in play … or can you take a card from their hand?
Offhand (npi), I’m gonna say the item needs to be in play.
Any rule disputes should be settled by loud arguments with the owner of the game having the last word.
How could a Led Zeppelin cover band play here the night before a Pink Floyd cover band? I’d just need some plaid pants to officially be back in the 70s.
Your crap joke for the day:
Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, “Fried chicken.”
She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else laughed.
My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal.
I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals ……..very much.
I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office.
I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.
The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was.
I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.
She sent me back to the principal’s office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.
I don’t understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am.
Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most.
I told her, “Colonel Sanders.” Guess where I am now …
A joke as bad for you as KFC
Morning Pan
Hubby decided to be up for 6am to watch the F1 race. No more playing Forza for him.
This weekend we’re going to see the man with iron in his thighs.
The outfit is a bit dark, yes. And her lack of muscle also seems a bit strange for the 2nd-most-powerful character (is she?) in the DC universe.
That said, I don’t know if a bright, shiny, Linda Carter Wonder Woman would ever make sense again. Preconceptions aside, she looks fine to me. I trust Snyder to do a good job, as long as he’s given a good script.
Alex Ross has done the best portrayal of Wonder Woman, imo.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alex Ross in a one piece.
My real problem is more than just the look of WW. Its with the whole Justice League set up. It all seems to forced, too dark, too uncaring. Maybe Marvel has just ruined me.
Ah-a-ah-a-ah, he’s hooked on a feeling!
Im high on!
Well back from the flicks after seeing Hercules..it was fun.
Expendables 3 was trailered ..it didn’t make me want to see it.
Six guys were playing poker when Smith loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table. Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five complete their playing time standing up. Roberts looks around and asks, “Now, who is going to tell the wife?” They draw straws. Rippington, who is always a loser, picks the short one. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don’t make a bad situation any worse than it is. “Gentlemen! Discreet? I’m the most discreet man you will ever meet. Discretion is my middle name, leave it to me.” Rippington walks over to the Smith house, knocks on the door, the wife answers, and asks what he wants. Rippington says, “Your husband just lost $500 playing cards.” She hollers, “TELL HIM TO DROP DEAD!” Rippington says, “I’ll tell him.
Picture of dogs playing poker in coats, please?
We watched the movie, Umder the Skin last night. You know, the ScarJo nudie flick.
I hear it is critically acclaimed. Im guessing its accolades are for her full frontal (& several male counterparts’ parts). It was fascinating to view humanity from an alien’s perspective, but this movie was too dark, had several plot holes, & creepy, unsettling music.
It is acclaimed. And nowhere in the bylines of the first page of critiques do I see any mention of the nudity.
Boobs.
Well, I mean… they are what they are…(delightful)
Seriously, lovely as Scarlett is, I think the teenage boys would have trouble finding wank material in this film.
It is very, very arty-indy, meaning many long, slow, cryptic shots. I dig arty-indy, but this did have too many deliberately, pointlessly obtuse moments.
But..*I* still could, right?
You certainly don’t need my permission.
In other movie news, however, we watched BRiCK tonight and recorded our reactions. Anyone else?
BRiCK? I thought it was BTILC we were meant to be watching.
Recording this weekend. Hopefully sooner
Brick is also a fun, quirky indy – – but yes, it should have read BTiLC.
Oh, you wacky autocorrect!
JW: Extant E2
Although I’m enjoying the series it really is a classic example how crap TV land is at science.
The AI boy is told only the strong and the more intelligent survive…yeah the writers should have read up on the humble cockroach.
Morning Pan
The crows are being particularly talkative this morning.
Saw Hercules yesterday. It was big dumb fun, and we enjoyed it.
There, just got back from picking up some whiskey and the ingredients to make chocolate fudge and mint chocolate fudge. Too bad it’s another week and a half until the party.
I want your recipe if you use whiskey in fudge!
Whiskey in fudge. hmmm. I’ve never tried that. Now that you’ve put the idea in my head…
I heard the Ted Talk on this a bit ago. It was interesting.
Forwarded that to my Brother-in-law who sold his own genetics firm a few years ago.
He said these folks are on the up-and-up but it is an overly ambitious project. He figures they will need at least 2 million respondents to statistically get enough humans with this special mutation, in order to do the science.
Still, in his words “scientifically this is what needs to be done.”
Love to see this live. Its been 21 years (YIPE!) since I’ve seen them
Wait. It’s been 19 years since their last album? /old
Just since the original classic line up. Its only been 2 since their last album
But call me Aloysius Devadander Abercrombie.
SO I been told.

Morning Pan
Had a really rough night last night. I woke up partly through the night because I felt something tickling my arm. Discovered it was a spider walking on me. Those who know me will understand if I spent the rest of the night in either non-sleep or nightmare land.
Try 2…. Forgive if this appears twice. I’ve just finished season 2 of Game of Thrones and have considered picking up the books. For those who have read and watched, how different are they? I expect some differences and I always know that they are two seperate works. Any thoughts?
I’ve read the first three books when they came out but, to be honest, it was so long ago I honestly don’t remember how close they are to the tv show.
The earlier seasons are very faithful. Differences appear later on, but that’s also when the books start to wander.
I watched the first 3 seasons before reading the books and then this last season after reading the books. I enjoy watching the show better when I don’t know what’s coming. That being said, I still enjoyed this last season so it’s not one of those situations where you simply can’t enjoy the visual medium if you read the books (like World War Z or Ender’s Game).
I’m immersed in the 80’s playlist on Spotify.

I’ve never wAtched the show.
Crap joke for the day:
A lawyer boarded a flight from New York to London with a box of frozen crabs, and asked the blonde flight attendant to take care of them. So she promised to put them in the galley freezer. He advised her he was a lawyer and threatened her what would happen to her if she let them thaw out.
Shortly before landing in London she announced on P A system,
“Would the lawyer who gave me the crabs in New York, please raise your hand!”
Not one went up… So she took them home and ate them.
There are two lessons here.
1: Lawyer’s aren’t as smart as they think they are.
2: Blondes aren’t as dumb as most people think..
I heard the story on NPR yesterday – He was one of the guys who knew the most about how NOT to get Ebola and didn’t have a clue as to how he got it.
They said the key to surviving it is early detection and treatment … he didn’t have to go to a doctor to get diagnosed, he IS the doctor. He recognized the signs immediately and put himself in an isolation unit, yet…
Isn’t this starting to sound like the beginning of one of those “Global Catastrophe” movies where the early signs are there but no one pays much attention to them because it is in some far off remote place.
Fortunately those re all just fiction movies.
Right?
I thought the same thing! Eeek! Just like the beginning of The Passage (which I highly recommend, btw).
Preston’s “The Hot Zone” was a non-fiction account of an uncontrolled Ebola outbreak at a lab in Virginia. *Spoiler* The U.S. was not consumed by an evil plague, but that was only because they figured out that the virus couldn’t jump to humans. If it was transmissible, then we would be living Mad Max right now, rather than looking forward to the movie.
I thought that was fictional. Anyway, I enjoyed the book. ๐
I thought the same thing, just yesterday at work.
As a healthcare Professional, I carry a very real fear of microbes and contagents. Maybe this doc became complacent. Sad and SCARY!’, imo!!
Even an expert can be make mistakes, sometimes fatal ones.
In her case, it wasnt a mistake, no? She was taking all recommended precautions at that time.
I do hope we find out how the Ebola doc became exposed; just for my own peace of mind, as I would hate it if the virus has mutated into something worse than it already is!
Indeed, but if an expert can be caught out by an inorganic compound, it’s not a surprise that a virus that can mutate can infect someone taking every precaution.
Morning Pan
You can just assume I will be very sporadic on the DP Board for the next two weeks. *sigh*
Pace yourself! Have fun! Hang out with interesting people!
Well ticket booked to see Guardians of the Galaxy tomorrow..yehaa!
We are thinking of seeing it on Sunday.
You’ll have to let us know if the GotG comics helped to supplement your viewing experience.
Other than the trailers For the film I knew zero about GOTG characters before signing up for Marvel Unlimited.
I’m right there now! What is this Marvel Unlimited you speak of?
Access to A lot of Marvel’s back catalogue for so much a month. They were doing an offer of 99cents for a month access over San Diego Comiccon.
Ive been looking forward to this. I dont think Id sit in the theater tho. Definate home viewing
Yeah, home viewing is a different story. I’d probably watch it at home where I could take bathroom breaks. This cut would be very, very long. And then there’s Uma’s freaky toes. ๐
Thumb toes?!
Plus enhanced eyeball-squishing.
CDownloading – Marvel Unlimited!
My goodness that was fast!
I’ve been doing the 99 cent MU too. We should swap recommendations and cautions. (I did read the Black Widow, per Van’s previous recommendation).
Make sure you use protection when you swap
Theyre making a UHF porn parody.
Okay…. what’s it called?
Ok I was thankfully wrong. Its a porn parody website gallery. Still. wtf

Pat Burns kissing the Stanley Cup was enough for me.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/modern-art-was-cia-weapon-1578808.html

The humour fell flat for me.
I’m still waiting for Waterworld 2.

I present for your consideration as I just watched a pair of movies yesterday:
A mere 25 years ago (gads I’m old!), the movie “Dr. Alien” presents a 1998 sex symbol in the form of Judy Landers:
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/283/c/9/judy_landers_by_koqueen1-d6pzoo8.jpg
By 2002’s American Psycho II: All American Girl (and certainly until now) the body type of someone like Mila Kunis is considered a sex symbol:
http://img.fark.net/images/cache/850/J/Jy/fark_JyucZrhOEVIIO66FGrtfKyVJ1KI.jpg?t=umUuaI_KJ8uIloa5eohIKw&f=1404100800
Sorry.
Lets give this a try for a Mila shot that shows what I’m talking about:
http://imageevent.com/afap/wallpapers/stars/milakunis;jsessionid=7nasvehzw3.goose_s?p=26&w=2&c=4&n=0&m=-1&s=0&y=1&z=3&l=0
I’ve never let pop culture pick my “type”.
I’ve learned I like what I like.
Never been big on the ultra-curves but I wasn’t into this “barely legal, Mila Kunis look” even when I was in my teen’s-20’s (certainly not now).
I’ve always preferred my women to look like adults. Sexy adults, but women … not girls.
More along the lines of this –

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/new-photo-of-tom-hardy-charlize-theron-mad-max-fury-road-20140321
I do love Charlize.

So, hat’s off to your nation.
I suspect a local variation like the way some up here add Pet when talking:

Your crap joke for the day:
A customer was continually bothering the waiter in a restaurant. First, he asked that the air conditioning be turned up because he was too cold, then he asked that it be turned down because he was too hot, and so it went for about a half an hour.Surprisingly, the waiter was very patient. He walked back and forth and never once got angry. Finally, a second customer asked the waiter why he didn’t throw out the pest.”Oh, I don’t care,” said the waiter with a smile. “We don’t even have an air conditioner.”

My Boo is completely moved out of their apartment and it has been made spotless. The inspection is today, then they can take their time unpacking.

Mower dismantled, parts and tools all over the driveway. The sky suddenly opened up and rain is pouring down.
Sweet.
I am going to go crawl back into bed.

addendum: didn’t go back to bed.
Got a pint of ice cream and a spoon then sat down and watched Costa Rica vs. Greece soccer.
I shall now try and convince the mower to behave.

Here’s a homebrew question for those in the know: I’m attempting a clone of Sam Adams Summer Ale this weekend but can’t find Grains of Paradise. Has anyone brewed with black pepper? Advisable or not?
Just stay away from Proto-mater.

in a more helpful (or not) light, I have only ever played with adding lemon, chocolate, and oak cubes to beer.
Never all in the same batch though.

We loved the first one!!!

CUDDLE
Oh, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle against the war.
Use your arms for cuddling; that’s what arms are for.

Cuddle a Russian, a peasant hussar.

Thanks Ed.

Happy birthday Dar Ryah,
Happy bunny to you!
Woo!
Mom called.
She said she was still in bed and calling me from there. I asked why she didn’t wait an hour and call me when she was up. She said it was hot out and she hadn’t decided if she wanted to get out of bed or not.
Happy Bunnyday!
(and adopted Romone – Richard Reinhardt)
When?? Do tell
Good times!
Ah for want of that experience…
JustaJ0e Ram0ne.
That is a most excellent life achievement, Joe. I might not have survived, but I’d have loved seeing them at CBGB’s.

Yeah. I don’t like the movie though.
How the hell do you not like A Christmas Story?

Well, I have no idea who Kristen Schaal is, but that was classic Weird Al fun.
What Ed said. Thx for the post, RA – – that is classic Al. I look forward to the (projected) tribute to UHF’s 25-year anniversary, coming up later this week.
My wife and I went to high school with her. She was just as goofy then as now.
Come to think of it, my wife went to elementary thru high school with her.

(speaking of vampires)
I never read that one. Sounds like I should.

So normally I buy color safe bleach for laundry. Well I picked up regular bleach on accident so I had to go back to the store to buy the color safe. Sooooooo as not to confuse the two I labeled one bottle “Colors” and the other “Whites only”.

So that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes of the Legends of the Fall of the Queen of the Children of the Damned of the Apes was not as good as the first — or the original — but still pretty good. Worth it if you liked the first one.

Where the hell did the day go? I was planning to do some audio editing today but that just didn’t happen. Stupid deadlines. Stupid emails. Stupid time shortage.

I think I may be one of the few people who liked that movie.
I apparently found it forgettable.
I recall so little about it that I don’t remember if I liked it or not.
I’m sure there was a Dr Strange adaption with John Mills but that may been a TV pilot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0oeY1KMY9U
http://youtu.be/UHq54p8Czgg

Like I said, you can claim the 1944 Captain America if you want, but that was a serial and they werent Marvel at the time.

theatrical film
noun Movies.
a film made for exhibition in theaters, as distinguished from one made for television.
Dictionary.com Unabridged
Based on the Random House Dictionary, ยฉ Random House, Inc. 2014.
But the definition doesn’t cover when a film is shown in cinemas overseas FIRST.
“A FILM MADE FOR EXHIBITION IN THEATERS, as distinguished from one made for television!”
“The film premiered on CBS on September 14, 1977. It was later shown theatrically overseas”

In the UK at least, the first Marvel character to be seen in the cinemas was Spiderman not Howard the Duck.

Familiarity breeding contempt and all that.
I considered that today, but I think I’m glad I took the kids to see Indy instead.

Greetings from Overland Park, Kansas!
I’m here on a short, overnight trip to go to KantCon, where I playtested an indie game and painted my own D&D miniature. I also had a delicious dinner with Ditto and T-Cat. Plus, I went for a sunset walk and found my first geocache!
I listened to the Undeadpan episode on the drive down here. I will make sure to watch Big Trouble in Little China and get my audio in as soon as possible.
Good night, adventures.
Woot to all of that!
We were glad to see you!
Morning Pan, ticket booked to see the new Apes film this morning.
Well that was fun, Gary Oldman criminally underused though.
I have heard it was good, but I haven’t seen any of the rebooted movies. I am nostalgically attached to the originals. ๐
These are more prequels tho than reebots, yes?
reebots?
These are not the reebots you were looking for.
Get your stinking pincers off of me, you damn dirty reebot.
Got back from my adventures late last night.
Finally made 10 feet (10′ 1″ to be exact)!
Had to overcome weather, a back pain (back went out the day before), and the fact that my pole broke on me in warm ups (I had a stiffer one and was able to use it for the meet).
I did it though.

Congrats
Excellent use of your stiffer one!

Watched Big Trouble (B-TiLT) on the weekend. Hubby said he wasn’t going to join in the recording so, if anybody needs a recording partner, I’m available.
I noticed that B-TiLC is free for Amazon prime members. Odds are good that David Lo Pan and Kurt Russell will be streaming right into my living room this weekend. Better rent a carpet cleaner.
It’s also available for Netflix instant viewing, at the moment.

Your crap joke for a lazy Sunday:

“Top doctor dies from Ebola after treating dozens”
http://news.yahoo.com/west-african-airline-suspends-flights-amid-ebola-131826424.html
I’m reminded of this:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Wetterhahn
