  1. Hey Deadpan

I have a technical question. I handle the e-mail for our silly convention. Yesterday, for no apparent reason, I stopped being able to send e-mails via this account. Nothing has changed since the day before, settings, etc. I just can’t send. I can still receive though. I’m using Outlook 2007. What would cause this?

    • It’s a different server and seems to work for our webmaster, but I got it working. Went on the MS forums and found a work around. Still strange that it would suddenly change without me touching it.

  2. I felt the need to tweet the show because there’s that nifty little “tweet this” button on the page, but I didn’t like that it uses bit.ly instead of x.co so I had to change that and I didn’t like that it didn’t @mention Jack, so I changed that.. and I didn’t like that it didn’t include the hashtag #DeadpanIsTheWay which really should be required by all tweets.

  3. I’m going to try to comment more just because I feel so sad when I’m not in the comments that are read even though I know it’s my own damn fault for being absent often.

    • I’ve been a fan since 2001, when I heard them interviewed on CBC while driving the north coasts of the Great Lakes. I then bought their album “This Business of Art,” which is a much more stripped-down acoustic sound…

    • Tegan and Sara – Twins – The claim to fame with me “I went walking with a ghost” or something very like that. Concert tour canceled in Phoenix one year due to their grandparent dieing.

I think I like this reply feature.

  4. And in Hockey news, Vancouver is the first team this year to clinch a playoff spot, and this is with close to a month remaining in the regular season. I’d say the odds are excellent that they’ll make the Cup finals.

  5. Cool NASA news that’s timely:

    MEDIA ADVISORY: M11-061

NASA TV TO COVER MESSENGER SPACECRAFT ENTERING MERCURY’S ORBIT

WASHINGTON — NASA Television and the agency’s website will carry live
coverage from 8 to 10 p.m. EDT Thursday as the first spacecraft
enters Mercury’s orbit. The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Laboratory, which operates the MESSENGER spacecraft, is conducting
the webcast from its mission control building in Laurel, Md.

NASA’s MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and Ranging,
or MESSENGER, is scheduled to enter the planet’s orbit at
approximately 9 p.m. after conducting more than a dozen laps through
the inner solar system for the past 6.6 years.

  6. Avs are gonna get a great draft pick. Not that I trust management or ownership anymore. Days of the Cups seem like forever ago.

  7. Its bad enough that I have to wait 2hours til my flight home. Its quite another to be in a tiny airport where theres nothing to do.

Shouldn’t Van be up? Where’s Van. Make me some bangers and mash, good sir. I hunger.

  8. According to the news, out of 28 countries with public health care, Canada came in 26th on doctors per capita. No wonder I had to start paying for private care.

  9. I think I have to tell hubby to stop buying me alcohol. He’s a sweet man but…I’m not allowed to have beer anymore so hubby will pick me up a bottle of liquor (or whiskey about once a month) whenever he comes home from buying beer for himself. The problem is, it takes me about a month to go through a bottle of liquor versus his week to got through a 12 pack of beer. Therefore, with him buying beer approximately once a week, I’m getting quite the collection of liquor. With the bottles on my counter, people are going to get the wrong impression of me. This must stop.

  10. So currently listen to the latest DP.

After to listening to Lejon’s comment about the Third Man I feel compelled to suggest that in future Palooza’s we just let LJ analyse the subject and we can sample ourselves clapping in appreciation.

    Cough

    • I’m actually a pretty boring watch.
I sit around a lot. Answer phones. Get frustrated by the calls, and pretty much want people to die.
Now, this would make a good start to a movie…but as the movie drags on, we see that the character doesn’t develop much, and by the end we all ask ourselves… What was the point of that?

  11. I had a sense of deja vu to my history classes at school.

We would analyse a subject, have a discussion, then the Teacher would point out what we had missed…

        • It’s a trivia thing.

If your the sort who likes watching the maps that show live lightning strikes across the country or even real time earthquakes across the country (small ones happen every day) then this would be right up your ally. Not for the current crises in Japan but to watch the everyday fluctuations in background radiation.

A highschool kid could make SUCH a science project out of something like this!

  12. Saturday has arrived and my family is coming home again. Wife came in last night and the kids are on their way with my parents now. Managed to make a pretty productive week out of it. Still lots of packing to go, though. Man we’ve got a lot of stuff. Which is scary considering how much we’ve already gotten rid of via trash and donations.

  13. Jack’s ignoring me.

I drunk texted him yesterday and I didn’t even get an LOL.

What has this world come to when a friend can’t drunk text another friend and get an LOL?

    I’m srsly..

I’m so completely kidding. (not really)

    LOL

  14. My first problem with the WW costume is the woman wearing it is too thin.

I was going to say that my second problem is how shiny the costume is, but perhaps that is a passive offensive weapon, designed to blind opponents.

  15. Finally finished watching all of Party Down. Now I’m sad that there is no more. But it was sort of a “side project” for many of the key players, formed up after the demise of “Veronica Mars” as it was.

Though an ensemble show, it couldn’t withstand loss of its perceived “lead” Adam Scott.

Adam Scott who would of course play Jack Mangan in a “Social Network” style biopic…

      • An aside …
Tragically, I caught the “Time to talk about sex with these kids” episode of Glee.
From the standpoint that MAYBE there were highschool age kids watching this and MAYBE there are parents out there that are leaving their kids sexual education up to television, or movies or MTV or anybody else but themselves … well from that standpoint, it was ABYSMAL … all except for the scene between the gay kid and his dad. The scene that should have been the most cringe worthy and potentially painful/annoying … THAT scene was wonderful. That “talk” could have applied to ANY parent/kid talk (regardless of sexual preference) and was handled sweetly, responsably AND positively.

I’d like to think that the writers and producers had totally planned to make the rest of the show’s handling of this topic AWFUL, sacrificing 40 minutes of content to make that 5 minutes shine even brighter but more then likely … the writers they have working on the “gay thing” may just actually care more about what they are doing.
        Or not.
        What do I know.

  16. Finished Dragon Age II today. Wonder what would have happened if I went a different route… I’m interested in hearing from others once they finish to see how it differs.

  17. My brother delivered homemade chicken soup to my house today. I think I have “allergies” more than a “cold” but I’m not turning down any home cookin’ from my big bro and his wife. That’s for sure.

  18. Thanks Rhettro, but I limit my intake of mind altering substances to caffeine and alcohol. Mostly because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to stop if I try anything else.

  19. CD: Unibroue’s Quelque Chose, a beer made of equal parts amber, and brown ale with cherries. And holy jeebus does it ever taste and smell of tart cherries. I highly recommend it.

..I think I broke Pintley’s text box when I wrote my review of it…

  20. Ahh, Spy Hunter. I never knew which fork in the road to take to get the boat.

I haven’t checked Pintley in aeons, but I did enjoy me something from Ommegang over the weekend. A Belgian-style that won’t waffle. Anyone know this brewery?

  21. What JOe, said, about being painfully tart this morning. It’s a day off for me, so that means a few domestic tasks and maybe some geetar.

  22. No because everyone in the crowd is of the same ilk…and they would be coughing and looking around and seeing themselves in the eyes of Bach. And lo, it was most unpleasant.

However, Dave “Snake” Sabo has probably dropped the “Snake”.

  23. Just watched ditto’s Doctor Who link.

3 ways to make S6 wonderful (may contain spoilers):

    1. Kill Rory. For good this time.

    2. Two Amy Ponds, one mini-skirt. Keep them as the Dr.’s Companions. Meow.

    3. Keep each episode under 10 minutes.

    Yep that should do it.

  24. TARDIS business
    Slippin´ in the times
    TARDIS business
    Somethin’ that rhymes
Ain´t your business if I got
    No TARDIS on my back

    Huh.

  25. Lejon,
Well, let’s see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di’s clothes. I couldn’t believe it.

  26. I think the people who shovels our sidewalk must have hired someone new. He doesn’t do anywhere near as good of a job as the previous person plus he didn’t do our back steps and deck at all. Since we pretty much exclusively use the back door, it’s an issue when snow comes half way up your calf. I called and complained. Hopefully he’ll do better when he comes to shovel today.

  27. People are stupid. It’s a good thing I was paying attention. The new kid who shovels our walk and driveway got mixed up and was doing the neighbour’s place. I hope the neighbor is happy he got his driveway shovelled on my dime

  28. I need some help.

A friend wants to buy my old iPhone (she wouldn’t let me give her the phone).

Thing is she has no cheque account, and I would rather not give her my bank details.

Would it be be possible for her to transfer money (electronically) from her bank account to my paypal account?i

  29. CPIMM: (over and over and over and over and )

    Whenever I’m alone with you
you make me feel like I am young again
    whenever I’m alone with you
you make me feel like I am fun again

    • sad
Victoria Jackson has reached that level of “has been” that she has to publically say controversial things to get any press. Frankly, I had forgotten she even existed.
I say, let’s DON’T amplify her weak signal. I encourage everyone NOT to follow the link or post her name again.
Let’s let her fade back into the cracks of pop-culture.

  30. [immaturity streak] Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Principle! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! Victoria Jackson! [/immaturity streak]

  31. I’m not sure if I’m delighted or disappointed that I’m old enough to have gotten the “I learned it from you” reference.

    Get of my lawn!

Oh, and Rhustler’s Rhapsody. Enjoy the root.

  32. Well, I switched to Firefox 4. It looks prettier and is faster than before, but I don’t like how they’ve moved the tabs above the location bar.

  33. The Mig-31 has to rank as one of the coolest fictional aircraft ever conceived.

Hmm, wonder if Firefox would survive a palooza voting challenge.
