TRA: I’m impressed with your goodreads list! One of your books, This Bridge We Call Home, has a piece by Sly B in iit
Kick ass Sly!
I have a goodreads list? I think I’m being confused with someone else. I’ve never read This Bridge We Call Home. Now that I know it’s got something by Sly B in it, I might have to rectify that.
Ok , that makes more sense. Different Jessie!
I don’t have a specific list on goodreads, but in case anyone is interested, recent (for me anyway) good reads have been This Is How Music Works by David Byrne, The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, and I’m currently reading Junky by William S. Burroughs.
You’ve been felling edgy and distrustful lately, haven’t you?
Did you know that Better Than Ezra covered James’s “Laid”? Talk about your double flash backs.
I’m more amazed that James is still around.
Not a huge fan but thats some staying power
Me neither, but one of their recent songs is really good.
Love the original. . . BTE were always hit-or-miss for me, but I think they could handle this cover. Will check it out. 🙂
Van, Sleater-Kinney is playing in Newcastle on Feb 20!
Go man!
But all those teenagers!!!
Ha! You mean all those mid 30 – 40 year olds
Saved from that hell by it not being Newcastle and being sold out.
VanSleater-Kinney … not as good since Sammy Hagar the Horrible.
I am the posting thief! Bwa, ha, ha, ha, ha
John Stewart on Brian Williams –
“Finally SOMEONE is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq war.”
“Never again,” he added dramatically, “will Brian Williams mislead this great nation about being shot at in a war we probably wouldn’t have ended up in, if the media had applied this level of scrutiny to the actual (bleep) war.”
Jon will be missed. He was giving us a voice to what some of were already thinking.
He is one of the few voices receiving even a moderate amount of coverage, who was standing ready to call politicians, celebrities, the rich and even the media itself out for their BS.
Given how willing folks like Fox are to lie on a regular basis WITH him calling them out … I fear the BS dials will be set to “11” after he departs, issuing forth a tsunami of BS the likes that the world has never seen.

I hate the “wild west” that is Java development.
My son has taken a keen interest in programming. We bought him a ton of books for Christmas and he was really stoked about learning Java. That has since cooled and now he is singing the praises of Python. No sure if that means anything.
It means he has good taste. 😀
More seriously, both are good languages, though I prefer Python for certain reasons. It’s the mentality of the Java community as a whole that I dislike. There are certain attitudes that are very frustrating.
I hope your son enjoys Python. He should learn all he can, especially good practices, before learning a new language. And learning multiple languages is absolutely essential nowadays. First, it should dispell the “this language is best” nonesense. Second, it will help him pick up new languages easier. Knowing a language is less important than knowing how to solve problems in any language.
He should really start with Fortran ’77.
Pelham 123
Coltrane ’61
Let he never be confused with Roscoe P.
Looks like the current books version of Humble Bundle should be great for your son.
Blacked out again last night, looking like I’ve had a fight with Mike Tyson (gash on bridge of nose).
Van!? Do you know what’s causing this?
How much of your ear is missing?
Joking aside, hope you can get that sorted out.
Nope, no explanation, will go and see what the Doc says.
Stop it.
See that, Lo declared it. It must be so. right?
damn
I’m full of worry. Let us know what the doc says, please.
What everybody else said. Please look after yourself *hugs*
Won’t be till Monday, I’m not at home.
You could beat Mike Tyson, Van. Please keep us posted and take care of yourself in the meantime.
Did you know children spelled backwards is nerd lihc?

Crap joke for the day:
A drunk gets up from the bar and heads for the bathroom. A few minutes later, a loud, blood curdling scream is heard coming from the bathroom. A few minutes after that, another loud scream reverberates through the bar. The bartender goes into the bathroom to investigate why the drunk is screaming.”What’s all the screaming about in there?” he yells. “You’re scaring my customers!”..”I’m just sitting here on the toilet,” slurs the drunk, “and every time I try to flush, something comes up and squeezes the hell out of my nuts. The bartender opens the door, looks in, and says,”You idiot! You’re sitting on the mop bucket!”
Holy perfect country, Batman! Well, minus the super high suicide rate

Morning Pan
This morning hubby woke up and said he dreamt we had a power outage. The radio just said there was currently a power outage at the other end of town. How strange is that?
I know we have some music snobs in the Deadpan 😉 so I wanted to make sure it’s ok that I like Imagine Dragon’s puppet song?
No one who likes any Ramones song can get too snooty about music. Like Lo Pan said – – like what you like.
I was just kidding.
But now I guess it’s ok to tell you I actually like Nickleback… (really, I kind of do.)
Off to the snowy wastes with you!
Oh, you are already there..,
It’s never ok to say you like Nickelback. 😉
As for ID, they’re well-liked by my kids. I’ve heard a bit of their music, but only “Radioactive” has made an impact. I actually prefer Weird Al’s parody musically, because he doesn’t sing it like a hardass.
But Jack, does WA have puppets in his video? That’s what drew me to this song. :cheerful:
Crap joke for the day:
Joe took his blind date to the carnival. “What would you like to do first, Kim?” asked Joe.I want to get weighed,” she said. They ambled over to the weight guesser. He guessed 120 pounds. She got on the scale; it read 117 and she won a prize.Next, the couple went on the Ferris Wheel. When the ride was over, Joe again asked Kim what she would like to do. “I want to get weighed,” she said. Back to the weight guesser they went. Since they had been there before, he guessed her correct weight, and Joe lost his dollar. The couple walked around the carnival and again he asked where to next. “I want to get weighed,” she responded. By this time, Joe figured she was really weird and took her home early, dropping her off with a handshake. Her roommate, Laura, asked her about the blind date, “How’d it go?”Kim responded, “Oh, Waura, it was wousy.”
Oh Good Word…
wow

That’s it. I’m done work for the day! Long weekend this weekend. Woo Hoo!
I have officially scheduled the vacation days that I know for sure I’m taking this year, one of which is Saturday, May 16. I will probably arrive sometime Saturday morning during the MMMMMeetup. I will book my flight and hotel soon.

Who knew that the movie, Clue, had three different endings during its theatrical release back in 1985? And which ending did you see in the theatre! A, B, or C?
Yeah, I remember that. I don’t remember which ending is which.
I actually think I saw all three.
When the show seemed to end there was a voice over that said something like, “That’s how it could have happened, but here is REALLY what happened.”
Then there was an alternate ending and they did a similar thing again for a third ending.
I could be wrong.
I remember the same
In Clue’s theatrical release, each theater only had one ending (A, B or C). It was the beauty of pre-internet promotional capabilities. Unfortunately, I never saw it in the theaters. Once it hit home video (and later DVD) it had all three endings with text in between each one that said “That’s how it could have happened, but here is REALLY what happened.” or some such thing.
Watched “John Wick” tonight. Fun movie. Probably the most emotion I’ve ever seen from Keanu. 🙂
Whoa. That is a damn fun movie.
FTW!
I finally watched “A Knights Tale” last night.
I thought it was fun.
Thought it was ok, but terribly silly in a non fun way and they had a cheek to use the old myth about using only 10% of our brains.
“terribly silly in a non fun way” kind of says it all, doesn’t it? Especially the non-fun part.
I could get past some of the pseudo-science, but it rams it down your throat for the whole movie. If there was something more than pretty visuals, I might have enjoyed it more, but this is really an “all style no substance” movie, and I wasn’t impressed with the style.
I re-watched The 5th Element.
Still fun.
Supa Green!
Yeah. I need to watch that again. 🙂
Milla’s best role. And outfit.
Chris Tucker’s best role. And outfit.
Tricky’s best role.
Well off to the Doctors in the hope of some explanation.
I hope they discover a new superpower 😉
Yes! I vote for superpower!
Hopefully you will use it for good … or at least dramatic irony.
..and again no explanations.
Sigh

Weird, sideways related note –
I dreamed last night that I was in southern England visiting someone, don’t know who, and I was trying to find out how to get north (I had no car) to try and visit Van. Oh, I was also trying to figure out how to contact him.
Sorry to hear that, Van. I know that has to be frustrating.
You actually may have to pass out in a crowded square
Speaking of medical news.
My Dad had a pacemaker installed last Thursday.
After his near death, brain bleed at Christmas (turns out not related to his fall but to the blood thinner his cardiologist had him on … google “Xarelto”) my mum and dad switched to a new cardiologist who had then both wearing these sensors and monitoring their hearts around the clock. They each had this iPod like device they carried around and it recorded their heart activity.
ANYWAY … after a week my dad went in and they looked over his data and saw that his heart had long periods of afib often followed by his heart just STOPPING. They showed him one instance where it stopped for 4 seconds.
So they put a pace maker in the next day and he feels (and LOOKS) much better. Having a constantly functioning heart is NOT over-rated.
Oh … and neither is cool modern tech and doctors who take a keen interest in your welfare.
Now we have to get my mum over the flu.
yay for science and family doing better.
Good news, Joe. We are happy for you and your family. 🙂
I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed Constantine. Hopefully it gets renewed or finds a new home.
We’ve only watched the first half of the season but are quite enjoying it as well.
I enjoyed the first season as well
Haven’t watched the last two episode, but have enjoyed what I did watch.

Several ski resorts in the area are closing early due to lack of snow. I know a number of people who are rather upset about this. However, as someone who refuses to fall down a hill with sticks tied to my feet, I am happy with with warmer than average weather we have been having.

Also too, if I was the king, I would ban the following on penalty of death:

“Convo” as in ” I wanted to loop you into this convo I’ve been having with the customer”
These are NOT words.

True facts: Before the latest actual life blow-up, I’d been mulling a project which would have involved music history, and possibly my own.
True fact2: Actual life will probably not give me the time and headspace to do this, but it’s a nice daydream.
Well if True Life lets up, I would be willing to listen if not help.

“Was it a Lie” by SLeater-Kinney is, bar none, the greatest song ever written comparing a girl getting hit by a train to women’s rights.
Hmmm.
Ha! And All Hands on the Bad One is the best album from 2000. BAR NONE.
You may very well be correct on that one!!! I will say that Outcast’s ‘Stankonia’ and the Deltron 3030 record are both close in excellence.
Looking at 2000, it seemed to be a really good year for alt-hip-hop and not great for rock.

Thoughts on co-workers congregating outside your office …
Call your office phone from your cell phone. When your office phone rings, pick it up and in LOUD PHONE TALKER VOICE say, “OH HI. YES. UH HUH. UH HUH. YES. NO. NO. JUST A SECOND, I’LL CHECK …”
Put the phone down, walk to the door and look at the murder of coworkers (or what ever you call a congregating mass of office workers). Make eye contact with one or two then quickly back to the phone where you say their names very loudly.
“BOB. SALLY. FONTENELLE. A FEW OTHERS. NO. JUST TALKING. A WHILE. NO. YES. YES. OKAY. GOOD BYE.”
Then hang up the phone.
At that point hopefully, they decide it would be best to find a desk somewhere. If they ask who that was you respond “I really couldn’t say.” then grimace and shake your head “no”. Like you’re trying to say something without saying anything.
Ah, sometimes I miss those corporate days. Not much though. Mostly just the hijinks.
This is what makes the days go by. Stuff like this…
I am officially the father of a teenage daughter. So Ive joined THAT group…
So you’re getting the eye rolling and the feeling you’ve said something stupid?
Please tell me she hasn’t moved to the staying out all night or sneaking out of the house stage yet.
Shiver me timbers!! That’s my favorite song on the new album.

So, we went tonight to the Potted Potter show. My daughter wore her Hermione getup and got picked to go onstage for Quidditch. My fiance nearly bowled over a young child to score a goal for Gryffindor.

At just above the freezing mark, It’s still quite nice. It’s just snowing too.
Oh, we have snow coming tomorrow.
How long has it been since you’ve experienced snow Jack?
We do too! 10-24inches. How big is your snow, baby?
Only 3 inches tomorrow. Just enough to cause serious frustration.
‘Enough to make things worse’ snow is actually worse than being snowed in.

We’re expecting sleet, ice and a little snow. Just enough to cause problems.
Today picked up a collection of all ACC’s previously published short stories for kindle.
Reading the early stories with slide rules and rocket societies reaching Mars..how quaint.
Van (and other Sci-fi readers), have we ever talked “Songs of Distant Earth”? Is the short story in that collection?
ACC has called the novel-length version his fave of his own works. I read it 10 years ago and barely remember it now, but I do highly recommend the Mike Oldfield album of the same name, based on the book.
I vaguely recall a conversation but if so its been years
I love the album. I honestly can’t remember much from the story. I should reread it.
Yup that short story is there, I still have the novel somewhere.
LOL QUaint indeed, Vanmamnode! LOL2. The American College of Cardiology surely dang did have some oofy goofy ideas@!

So – – I appreciate all of the support, and I know folks are probably wondering. . .
Last week, my dad was telling stories and able to laugh, today he’s mostly unresponsive and clearly not doing well. I’m glad I made the trip, but I wish I’d come sooner.
Really sorry man. Thanks for the info, tho. Just know that you getting there and seeing him at all it the closest thing to what Ill call a blessing. Even if you wanted to get there sooner.

About 10 years ago, I went through this when my dad was dying of cancer. It sucks. No matter what, it is extremely hard to let go of a parent, regardless of the circumstances. Just be glad you get to spend some additional time with your dad.
We are always here for you.
No words man. I have been so close to this in the past weeks.
I don’t know what is supposed to get any of us through this.
Clearly people find a way to deal but …
damn
I feel for you so much.
The others have said it better, life just sucks at times.
Thanks, everyone. I know some of you have been through this with your own parents. You kind of have your whole l i ‘re to brace for this, but you still find yourself woefully unprepared.
Hey,” said a new arrival in the pub, “I’ve got some great Irish jokes.”..”Before you start,” said the big bloke in the corner, “, I’m Irish.”..”Don’t worry,” said the newcomer,”I’ll tell them slowly.”
This is genius. Youre my joke telling hero!
Morning Pan
Today’s spam mail first line: Yeah that guy who looked up
*sigh* Excuse me in advance for a minor rant. I’m sick of people overusing “hero” when referring to individuals that are doing the job they are supposed to do and are expected to do. That’s not a hero.
Right. Its the same as ‘genius’ on a different level
Yeah, and you can’t tell either group of people that misuse these words that they are wrong. Sheesh.
You’d be a hero if you could…
They are LITERALLY wrong!!
This. We live in an age of shorthand. “Awesome” “liberal” “genius” “hero.” The definitions get blurred and misrepresented.
That said, I think some teachers/healthcare professionals/ firefighters/etc. perform acts of heroism as part of their at jobs, and I’m fine acknowledging that.
Agreed but there’s a fine line and youve just said it – its the ACTS of heroism that should define.
For the SAR heroism award they use tge definition of a selfless act in the face of imminent danger.
There are other qualifications as well.
“Heroic Subway employee distributes lettuce evenly on toasted turkey and ham!”
Genius, make sammwich
I blame Apple
….and the concerts are lining up!
I fear for humanity…the grocery store in our neighborhood is practically sold out! I think people panicked because of the forecast.
What will we do in the zombie apocalypse?
You realize 9 News is to blame right! They literally had a “worry” chart that told us tho be “moderately to severely worried” about this storm.
What a joke.
I am “moderately to severely worried” about the insistently declining state of TV “news”.
Amen brother
Will the general public continue to panic every time? Or will the weatherman become the Rokers who cried blizzard?
I didn’t know that! Apparently when people here worry, they buy produce!
Salad Preppers
Snap. Storms here..
Well I’m warm tonight, which after this morning I wasn’t expecting.
Yay!
I was trying to figure out how to express ship you some knitwear.
Be moderately to severely worried.
Only thing that worries me is that our heat went completely out, guy isnt back with parts yet, and its gonna cost a small fortune. I blame Van for angering the heating gods
You blame me for everything!
Including the soaring teen pregnancy rate!
Wait, what are you saying?
Ask Van
Serves them right. Soaring is much to dangerous an activity for teens.
Winter weather has me into day 2 of a three day weekend.
I decided the best use of this time was a James Bond Marathon.
I have made it through “You Only Live Twice.”
We shall see if I can force myself to get through “On Her Majesties Secret Service” tonight.
I am out of Vodka and running low on beer though.
BTW – I have also decided the Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout kicks the butt of Great Divide’s “Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Stout”
Ok come on… On Her Majesty is a good fucking film. Really enjoyable
Have you been surfing pron again?
Oh i get it…
I think they just simulate it for these films.
Funny, I read that as “stimulate”
No Mr. Bond
I expect you to dry.
So, as hard to believe as it may be.
I had NEVER seen that Bond film!
I know, right?
I had seen the “car chase through the ice race” scene and I had seen one seen in the mountain top resort with the girls but somehow I had never seen that whole film. Highlites – Emma Peel, bobsled fist fight, Emma Peel.
Certainly not the worst Bond film ever (Moonraker) but I won’t be in any hurry to see it again.
Next up … Diamonds are Forever!
BTW – this is the first time I have watched the series like this and the cultural changes were very evident in the hairstyles and fashions of this film (for guys and girls).
I think Mr Lazenby deserved more than one shot.
Well heaven knows Blofeld tried!
Bazinga!
Actually, I didn’t think Lazenby was so bad.
Nor me.
Nor *I*.
I do not fear your grammar Nazi ways.
So turns out I shouldn’t be using the heating system until it’s fully installed.
Council tried to drop off some portable heaters but since I was at work missed them.
Neighbours could have let them in, but since I had unpacked stuff on the assumption they wouldn’t be turning over the weekend I refused.
Fleece tonight.

Stay warm Van.
I did find my 1st-grade metal Star Wars lunchbox in my mom’s attic. The thermos was still inside.
That’s excellent man
Excellent find!
What is inside the thermos???
We all want to know.
Milk residue from 1981, most likely. It isn’t full.
Eggs.
Although I could be getting that mixed up with a Michael Caine film.
Completely up to you, Jack, but it might be cool (and helpful for you) to have some mini-episodes of ‘awesome ass memories’ of your pop.
I’m gonna take the initiative to speak for the group when I say we’d totally be on board.
Agreed!
Thanks. I might.
Condolences and hugs to Jack. Very sorry to hear the news.
Welcome back to Jon Klecko.
Cynful – I miss Jack’s music, too. 🙂 During the first few years of the podcasts, I actually cut a couple of songs out of podcast episodes and saved them as separate .mp3s. They’re still in my iTunes library, and I still like to listen to them sometimes.
And btw- aw, shucks – if there ever was/is a song that you or anyone particularly enjoyed, then you should feel free to ask me for the mph. That’d be easier than clipping it out of an episode. 🙂 (even if I sometimes move in slow motion on these things)
Diamonds are Forever.
Probably the best film of the series to that point. Theme song is right up there with “Goldfinger” (closely followed by “From Russia with Love”) and CLEARLY the best henchmen so far.
“So delightfully psychotic Mr. Kid?”
“Merrily murderous Mr. Wint.”
Happy Chinese New Year.
It’s the Year of the Ram!
If I could make love to ‘Vikings’ I would.
Sticky.
Are you sure not just Lagertha? I still like Travis AMA reply.
No. The whole show deserves sweet love
I was going to start calling you Ecbert.
But I do love me the show. The end scene was particularly brilliant on Ssn 3 Ep 1.
The Onion is absolutely destroying the bloated, disgusting, ‘who gives a fuck’ that is the Oscars. Its delicious.
Can we just get this kind of person off the air? Seriously. Pleading ignorance aint gonna cut it because you shouldnt be ignorant to begin with. Jesus is weeping
Did you go to his Wikipedia page they linked to? If I read it right, he knew swallowing a camera wouldn’t connect to the vagina. However, you can do a colonoscopy by swallowing a camera.
ha!
I notice that the screen shot of the wiki page that they include, does not match what is on his wiki now. I wonder if different people are fighting for control of what his wiki entry reads? I don’t really know who gets to edit those things.
Morning pan
Today’s first line spam mail: Remember to stop you
There’s a bunny in my back yard (actual animal).
Hello Mr. Bunny *waves at rabbit*
He better find shelter soon, it’s suppose to rain later today.
He shoulda taken that left toin at Albuquoique.
Oh bruddah, there goes me bread and buddah
Rain? Not snow?!
Wow, Welcome to Spring, Canadian Bunny!
Time to stop procrastinating.
Who says?
I’ll let you know later.
To those who control the financial markets: please stop doing whatever it is you are doing to bring the Canadian dollar down. We are now below the 79 cent mark and that is quite low enough thank you very much. Some of us have plans to travel to the States in the near future
Hey music dorks (like me):
Great local band – Prettymouth – has two albums available for free streaming. Excellent acoustic/string, moody, female fronted rock and roll.
I like the few seconds of the songs I heard. Definitely will listen more later or tomorrow.
If you dont have a lot of time, I recommend checking out the song The Devil You Know
Had more time to listen during morning reports today.
Very enjoyable thank you. I haven’t decided a favorite song yet. Maybe Motion Picture Perfect.
Her voice is niggling my brain, like I’ve heard it before, but the best I can come up with is a cross of Harriet Wheeler of The Sundays and Jessicka Addams of Jack off Jill.
Good assessment
Another day of not being able to draw a letter of the English alphabet on a Samsung Android OS phone. It has caused me much embarassment…again.
Okay just watched the season finale of Agent Carter.
It rocked, the series rocked, I hope there will be a season 2.
I hope so to. I haven’t seen the finale, but I’ve loved how all the different threads had been coming together. Around episode 3 or 4 I was wondering where it was going, but right now, I’m pretty pleased. 🙂
And dont forget the great tits, see!
/masochism
My guilty pleasure this week is ‘That 70’s Show’, watched the first three episode of S1 and enjoyed them.
Lo Pan and I may have to exchange words…dissing on Krull. You wound me, sir.
I love you… but…
Kull might Be the first movie I ever acknowledged as being terrible.
I see what you did there….
Everyone just back off of Krull. I was 13 when it came out and I dug the hell out of it. I’ve re watched it many times and continue to dig the hell out of it. Then again I actually enjoy a host of movies that are supposed to be so bad they are good (and I just don’t see them as bad) like Robocop, Flash Gordon, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Shock Treatment, Buckaroo Banzai, etc.
I was “treated” to the Heavy Metal films by a boyfriend. Not the best cinema, but at least the music was good.
Heavy Metal is such a guilty pleasure. So, so, so, so, so bad.
You cant lump Robocop in there. That’s actually a universally praised film. So much so they put it out on Criterion Collection.
I’d buy that for a dollar!
Thank you for your cooperation!
ZOMG & SQUEEEEE!
I just held open the door for David Moss, one of my favorite (Arizona) Coyotes!
So last night was “live and let die”
It was slower than I remember. Jane Seymour was even more alluring than I remembered. Roger Moore was not so bad.
The interesting cultural thing was how awkward I felt with the whole character stereo typing of the militant black person. They were all pimps or thugs or connected with crime.
The more I thought about it though, I realized that this is what a bond film does to EVERY group contained with-in. From Russians to
Germans to Southern Sherifs … Everybody is an exaggerated, stereotyped caricature. I think because it is across the board in the Bond Universe, maybe that is okay.
But if this ever-changing world in which we’re living makes you give in and cry. . .
…dance into the fire!
*applause*
The first Bond movie I saw was Moonraker when I was 9 years old (saw it at a drive in theater). To me, Roger Moore was James Bond. I wonder if that’s why I never really got that into the Bond movies (slowly backs out of room).
I saw both Roger Moore Bond pics mentioned at the flicks and enjoyed them.
From an era when cinemas always seemed packed, and people clapped and cheered when the film started.
Don’t feel bad, I was an adult before I saw any Bond film completely. It took me until my third one to appreciate them.
My first was For Your Eyes Only (edited for network television), and I loved it. I’d never seen such a cold-blooded good guy. I’m almost afraid to watch it now.
Morning Pan
It snowed again last night. Exciting news, I know.
Show of hands – – who’s surprised at the extra layer of bullshit being heaped on top of everything else my family’s dealing with this week? Let’s see, that’s one. . . two. . . zero. Right. Fucking no one.
Oh I’m pretty sure this is an intentional surgical strike by the purveyor of bullshit
Agree 100%. Pure evil.
Obviously have missed something but I wish you the best in getting it resolved
You know I almost dont want Season 2 of Agent Carter. This was as close to as perfect a season of television that Ive seen. I kind of just want it as a stand alone. But we’ll see
I guess we need to get past the pilot episode.
Get past as in you didnt enjoy?
I was meh on it. I’m willing to keep at it, though. She’s very watchable.
I really dont get you sometimes…
We plan to watch the finale tonight as the snow flies
Have I mentioned I wanted Breaking Bad to end at S4.
That season finale was just fucking perfect, as good as S5 was, I would have been perfectly happy for it to end at S4.
Yeah but its not like S5 wasnt fantastic as well. Maybe unnecessary but a perfect epilogue
Or how about this…ABC shrinks SHIELD down to 16 episodes and uses 6 of those slots for Carter, thereby securing the quality writing and big tv budget it deserves? I’m all for it. SHIELD could do well getting knocked down a peg(gy carter)
I could be for this.
While I like SHEILD … it suffers a little bit from “filler”, which I attribute to trying to stretch the season a little farther then it really had story for.
I think that was one of many things I liked about Agent Carter. The episodes didn’t seem to have much “down time” in them.
I hate Chicago
Is this a hockey comment? Or a city comment? Chicago is my 4th favorite place!
There are many things about Chicago I hate.
Travelling through here is #1.
I’m guessing an airport comment. And one airport is definitely better than the other
Show of Hands is also the name of a folk duo in the UK:
This album is fucking phenomenal. Everytime I relisten I remember
Jesus Christ Poooooohhhhhhhzzzzzzzuuhhhhhhh.
We got caught up on the Agent Carter finale last night as well. It was indeed most excellent. While I wouldn’t be disappointed if this ends up as a single special season, I wouldn’t object to another round.
The saddest think about the Kanye West crap is that I don’t think he does this shit as an expression of his stupidity and massive ego at all. He has a great publicity manager that has him pull this shit because it’s better than a million dollar advertizing campaign… and more effective. The proof is in the fact that we’re all talking about it despite the fact that I highly doubt any of us actually listens to Kanye West.
That was my take on it.
He’s last week’s (year’s?) “flavor of the week”, just over the crest and starting that downhill slide into “hey, there’s that guy who used to be really big” and photo bombing someone else’s fame is a sure fire way to get your name back out there.
Sad when you can’t rely on your own talent to do that for you, but what evehs. Any press is good press, right?
So, now that we’ve settled net neutrality /s, the next big crisis the internet has to solve is what are the colors of a dress?
I do sometimes wonder if I should be investing in tinfoil…
Look up the scientific explanation though. It’s interesting but not something people should be losing their minda over
I am more done with this dress thing than words can say
Morning Pan
We are having company over tonight for fun and games. Once the stores open, I will have to sneak out to replenish our stocks.
My background is in sensation and perception, so I’m having some really interesting conversations on it. Everyone keeps putting the contrast effect and spectral inversion up as the explanation. But that explanation is lacking. Spectral inversion can be seen here (http://publish.uwo.ca/~nmcginni/images.html). The problem is that everyone sees spectral inversion the same way. No one sees a contrast or spectral inversion illusion and says no no, I don’t see grey and a different grey there at all. The true explanation comes in through cognition rather than perception. Specifically gestalt psychology and figure-ground perception COMBINED with the contrast effect. Figure-ground is this thing that we’ve all seen in Escher paintings before (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure%E2%80%93ground_%28perception%29). The point is there are areas of bright sunlight and shaded areas in the dress picture. Depending on what someone is using as their background when they are interpreting the picture, they will get a different contrast effect.
Sorry to ramble, but my expertise is suddenly relevant on the internet and I’m a bit giddy.
That’s very interesting, and thanks for that background.
I also think that the argument stems from the problem that people believe that what they perceive is fact instead of interpretation. Take two people, one color-blind, the other not, and the both know that difference. They won’t argue about colors since they understand the each will perceive colors differently. But, when you have two people that aren’t color-blind, then it becomes an argument because of the difference between their “facts”. It’s just like people arguing about the figure-ground images you mentioned.
Have had a productive morning.
So far (besides my normal shower and make the bed) I’ve cleaned the washroom, washed the breakfast dishes, threw in a load of laundry. And it’s not even 8:00 :cheerful:
I once spent 12 hours in the Midway airport. Travel can be horrible through the MW no doubt. Still, 4th fave place for me, Chicago.
How dare you….
Now it makes me wonder what the other three are…
I hate the travel part of Chicago, but definitely love parts of the city.
The only two places I’ve had trouble with are East St. Louis and Lincoln, NE though.
I actively avoid the Chicago airports due to all the delays and cancelled flights I’ve had to deal with. I only fly through them as a last resort.
If you really want to get into the fun of what we perceive not being a true reflection of reality, there is the great example of the color purple. There is no wavelength of light that is “purple”. There is only the mixing of other wavelengths of light in your perceptual system (if you aren’t color blind) that creates a perception of purple. http://scientificbritain.com/post/44136284657/purple-or-more-accurately-magenta-doesnt-exist (meat of the explanation starts at 3:37 for the impatient people)
That Power Rangers “sequel” with Katee Sackhoff is pretty good.
It’s got KS in it, that’s a head start straight away.
I fucking missed it before it got shut down and taken off the net.
Scroll down and watch update 2. It should still work.
Of all the souls I’ve encountered in my travels, his was the most. . . human.
Just the other day, I was reminded of how moving “Amazing Grace” is for this scene when I selected it for tomorrow’s mass.
Nice touch

Statement by the President on the Passing of Leonard Nimoy –
Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy. Leonard was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time. And of course, Leonard was Spock. Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek’s optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity’s future.
I loved Spock.
In 2007, I had the chance to meet Leonard in person. It was only logical to greet him with the Vulcan salute, the universal sign for “Live long and prosper.” And after 83 years on this planet – and on his visits to many others – it’s clear Leonard Nimoy did just that. Michelle and I join his family, friends, and countless fans who miss him so dearly today.
Lama man, lama man, does everything that a lama can…
except for a L it seems.
BTW – “FedEx Express” around these parts – SUCK!
Once again they had a driver who was too lazy to walk from the street to my door and instead, left a note at my mailbox indicating they couldn’t deliver because no one was home.
I WAS of course, home. Sitting in my office 7 feet away from the front door … a door with a large FEDEX note taped to it with the delivery number and my signature on it so that IF for some reason I couldn’t make it to the door … they could just leave the package. In fact, I stepped outside to make sure that the walk I had shoveled clean earlier in the day hadn’t frozen back over AND I HEARD HIS TRUCK DRIVING OFF!
Ass.
To make this duchy look even duchier … just an hour and a half earlier a guy from FedEx Ground walked to my door and delivered a package that didn’t even need to be signed for. HE could have left in the mailbox.
1st world problem, I know but … this one is getting a formal complaint filed.
That package was supposed to be delivered last Wed anyway.
The new heating system makes strange ethereal scratching noises when operating.
Remind you of Predator?
Maybe one of the installers got sealed up in the system?
A soul perhaps.,I’m notlooking in the water tank.,,
Wake completed. Funeral and luncheon to go.
Truly humbled at all of the people who were there, including friends from my younger days.
Glad to hear you (and he) are with good company
Our thoughts are with you.
The entire family is here, in person and in spirit for you, Baby.
Q: Why do bakers start working so early in the morning?
A: Because they knead dough.
That aint ryet
Interesting. Tom Wheeler, chairman of the FCC who gave us the Title II ruling this week to secure Net Neutrality for all our internet access (well, at least for us in America).
Founded a startup in the 80’s that would have provided 1.5Mps internet access over cable lines at a time with 1200 baud modems were common. Cable providers refused to sell him access to the lines and the dream dies.
Tom, as we know, eventually goes on to be come a telecom lobbyist prior to his FCC appointment. Earns the title of dingo babysitting your children by John Oliver in his Net Neutrality segment.
Finally, Tom betrays his supposed former masters by protecting us from the predations of the big ISP’s.
Today, reddit has declared that Tom was actually Severus Snape the whole time.
Brilliant!
lmao. That’s a pretty funny description of events. Title II takes care of the worst neutrality abuses, at least here in the US. Now we can focus on other issues, like the poor security in the Internet.
That’s pretty funny.
Also funny was the phone giant Verizon who (stamping their foot in protest of net neutrality) put out the press release in morse code, protesting against the FCC’s “antiquated internet rules”. The joke was on them though, as millions of Americans speculated the real reason for using morse code was because Verizon’s Internet service was too slow to send anything more modern.
This is cool. Perhaps, on one of the Arizona visits, we can see this (along wiht Van’s airport graveyard) Hubby and I once got to tour the GMS observatory. It was amazing. http://www.spacecentre.ca/gms
The first thing scientists did with the telescope was to discover galaxy cluster 2XMM J083026+524133 in 2008, over 7 billion light years away from Earth.
Then, rather predictably, the used the telescope to find the babe in the high-rise across the street who liked to walk around her apartment in sexy underwear.
I didn’t discover any new galaxy clusters, but I did manage to take this picture from my backyard last night.
There is a CBC program called Under the Influence (http://www.cbc.ca/radio/undertheinfluence)that discusses marketing and history of various things. It’s also available as a podcast and I highly recommend it.
Today I finally learned what “Canadian” bacon is. (here in Canada, we just have bacon). Originally, Canadians didn’t smoke their pork. They used a peameal process which covered the pork in peas or or cornmeal then soaked in a brine solution. At some point, there was a port shortage in the UK so they started importing Canadian “bacon” but would then smoke it. It is this UK smoked version that was then brought over to the US.
The more you know 😉
sorry, the UK had a pork shortage, not port.
I was getting worried there, I know people who like port.
Today’s discoveries:
The downstairs control for the combi boiler works even though it looks like it doesn’t.
I’m crap at Rogue Legacy
Having two toilets can be an inconvenience when one leaks and you want to get it fixed.
I think it is perfect timing. 🙂 Grace and Hannah are super funny.
Getting ready for bed now.
For some reason I am getting up at 4:30am to drive to a track meet.
My last indoor meet for the year.
Seemed like a good idea when I signed up. Now I am filled with doubt.
Good luck, J0e.
It’s been an interesting week here, outside of reality in NJ.
The elements are threatening to keep us here even longer. . . Fingers crossed that we end the day in AZ tomorrow.
Good luck getting home, Jack!
Today is my 15th anniversary at Evil, Inc. It seems like 30!
I mixed up a huge batch of dry rub for pulled pork and another huge batch of dry rub for brisket, as we are loading up on Wednesday (weather permitting) to drive to Phoenix for my brother’s wedding. I’ll be smoking ~150# of meat for the event!
We finished Agent Carter last night – loved it.
Carry on!
Agreed on the safe journey for Jack and family.
Sounds yummy Essbee. Safe journey for you too.
Well Pan ticket booked to see this oddity this evening:
Her portrayal of madness was uncomfortable to watch at times.
Just put ditto’s Carnitas recipe in the oven! My house smells delicious!!
(I was gonna say “ditto’s carnitas in the oven” but it somehow didn’t sound right)
I hope you like it. 😀
Fuck snow!!
I wouldn’t. You’ll freeze your dangly bits off.
Good point. Nobody wants snowballs.
They’re worse than blue ones
oof
CW: American Horror Story Season 4
I definitely like American Horror Story or I wouldn’t be watching in the first place. For the most part, it’s better than last season. Only thing that gets under my skin is the use of modern songs in a plot that is supposed to take place in 1952. I absolutely hated it in Moulin Rouge. But, I hoped it would not become a trend. Now I’ve seen it in the otherwise good Book of Life and again here. I hope it is a trend that will burn itself out quickly.
Definitely in my to watch list
I hated that in Bioshock Infinite..oh wait.
Phoenix, here we come!
Phoenix, here we sit on the snowy runway!
Phoenix, you are still nowhere in sight.
All I see is snow.
Really enjoyed Last Man on Earth (much to Van’s chagrin). I really appreciated the fact that its not supposed to be lol funny. And as far as him being a slob – that makes total sense but I cant converse without spoilage. But, since Van already spoiled the fact he’s not the last person on earth… I was surprised they introduced a woman so early in the show. But since that woman is Kristen Schall (who happens to be one of the best comedians currently IMO) I’m perfectly ok with that.
I’m waiting for the H to appear on her head at some point.
Oh and so far he’s the last MAN on Earth.
Oh that fact hasnt been lost on me, bucko
Wait a second, don’t you personally “know” Kristen Schall?
WTF?
Yeah we went to high school with her. My wife and her were super good friends on the debate team. Obviously havent seen her since high school so I wouldnt say we know her anymore.
Dude I REALLY dont think they we’re like, “Hey, you wanna copy a well loved but not really known in the States Brit sci-fi comedy from the early 90s? Yeah!”
Hmmmm.
You take that back
Hitchhiker’s Guide?
So the Earth is a ship and there’s a talking Cat?
oof..
I agree 1000% that Kristen Schaal is one of the funniest comedians out there right now. If you or your lovely wife could convince her to show up at the Mmmmeeeetup, I would be more than happy to show her my Louise tattoo:
As a final note from me: I’m still blogging every week. Starting with this comment, I just changed the URL field in the reply box so that clicking my name goes to my current blog. The blog post I just finished (this one) explains what I’m doing up at this hour.
Good night, :mush: .
Great blog post, Amy! Good luck with the graveyard shift!
“I’m worried that I’m losing my wife’s love,” the husband told the counselor. “Has she started to neglect you?” ..”Not at all,” the dejected man replied. “She meets me at the door with a cold drink and a warm kiss. My shirts are always ironed, she’s a great cook, the house is always neat, she keeps the kids out of my hair. She lets me choose the television shows we watch and she never objects to sex or says she has a headache.” ..”So what’s the problem?”.. “Maybe I’m just being too sensitive,” the husband ventured, “but at night, when she thinks I’m sleeping, she puts her lips close to my ear and whispers, ‘Die! You son of a bitch, die!'”
I fear I may get to see ‘Age of Ultron’ before Phoenix.
Well I say fear…
Is there some Ministry of Marching People to the Theater there in the UK that I’m unaware of?
You should be suspicious oh John Ckeese..just saying.
Morning Pan
Kitty goes to the vet this morning for her regular check up. She will not be pleased
Sitting in a parking lot waiting on a tow. At least I have AAA.
I hasten to add I have no ill will to HF and hope he makes a quick recovery.
He should stop flying casual.
I’ll borrow Van’s coat and share a bad pun.
He was flying Solo.
But I do wish him quick recovery
The coolest thing tho is that he was flying a vintage WWII trainer plane. Oh to have more money that god.
Hi from Gilbert! Wish I could see my Phoenix peeps!!
Gilbert of Patman and Gil?????
Wut
Oh thats super old school :> Rhett!!!
w00t for EssBee in Gilbert!!
Let’s see if we can make a rendezvous happen. 🙂
I had forgotten what a gem the album “Rotting Pinata” by Sponge is.
I did not forget what a classic “Meantime” by Helmet is.
I preferred “Unsung”
You can me smile
Took a break from Bondage (watched “The Spy Who Loved Me” last night … fell asleep about 1/3 the way through) to watch “Labyrinth” tonight.
I have mixed feelings about it.
David Bowie should be the next Bond for a film or 2.
That or the next Doctor.
Did you have to use scissors to escape?
You shouldn’t fall asleep for lack of action in Labyrinth. But you might get hypmotized by the junk:
Actually … I found it very slow at times. Although I think maybe it was trying to mimic the way a children’s book will repeat something to emphasis it.
“You are in a predicament”
“Oh dear, I am in a predicament.”
“Yes, a predicament and you are in it.”
“Well, I need to get out of this.”
“Because you are in it.”
“Yes, I am and I don’t want to be.”
That sort of thing. There were a couple of times I felt the urge to yell “Oh just GET ON with it.”
That treatment was maybe a little difficult for the adult who is used to modern action films but I can appreciate how it fit the over-arching theme of a girl who is struggling to make the transition from childhood to young adult. She’s trapped in the attitudes and things of her childhood (noticed the books like “Where the Wild Thing Are” on her desk) and is trying to move beyond it to become less self centered and whiney … and interested in junk.
That whole “2nd level” plot of the movie was really well done.
… and hey, a muppet riding a sheep dog! How can you go wrong with that.
BTW – love Bowie, but the juxtaposition of him in a kid’s film and with a baby … the wrongness of that is just gold.
So if Facebook is to be believed it’s Lo’s Birthday.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday Lo Pan. Just how old are you now? Google only tells me “centuries”. Are you closer to 200 or 900?
“When 900 years old you reach” etc…etc…
Just like Lo Pan to not answer a question. It’s as though you think I wasn’t put on this earth to “get it”.
“I’m 37, I’m not old”
Plus a couple.
Yes, Happy Birthday to Lo and every one of his alternate personalities
Yea Lo Pan!
Thanks for taking yet one more trip around the sun with us!
I’m thinking of removing my mother from my friends list on FaceBook. It’s because of her I’ve locked down my account so you can’t write directly on my wall, unless it’s in response to something I’ve already said.
I’m trying to decide how much of a war this will cause.
Yeah. Family can be special sometimes, right?
My sympathies.
It’s this sort of scenario that has played a large part in my decision not to do Facebook.
The past couple trips to AZ, we’ve all gone to see a movie together. Were we interested in seeing the new Avengers movie, or just hanging out?
As in the past, you can see the new movie but I will just hang in my room or something as I will see it with hubby.
I have a book and I’m not afraid to use it.
Well I’m up for it, but it may be the second time for me..
Cough
Does the release coincide with our planned weekend?
That being said its nothing compare to his first mash up album, “Mouth Silence”
No problem. It doesn’t help that I can’t stand (for that) Hall & Oats. The music makes me gag. I never recovered from hearing them way over played in the 80s.
You cant go for that?
I’ve never recovered from the Oatestache.
Youre out of touch
He requires Adult re-Education. 😉
And to just sew his Oates
With a Rich Girl?
Oh ditto, you make my dreams
She’s a maneater.
Vaneater?
That’s the Jingle Bell Rock.
I should be so lucky..oh wait,
Happy Birthday to Lo of the Pan! Enjoy the weekend, sir.
No promises!
The internal temperature of a Taun-Taun is Luke warm.
You deserve a very fine coat for that one.
Yesterday, Han shat first
Landon’t you be making fun of the situation
Obihave
I think Van’s post to the Facebook group said everything that needed to be said.
Had Haggis and black sausage for dinner. The black sausage was more bland than I expected and the haggis was a bit more liver-ey than I expected. But, I liked them both.
Is black sausage the same thing as blood sausage?
A variation, called black pudding in the uk.
blood sausage that is.
Yes, but is it made with black blood of the earth?
You mean oil?
Texas Tea
He means black blood of the earth!

If only she wasn’t so fucking annoying…
You know what is worse than a leaking radiator?
A leak with no obvious puddle.
Wedding time soon! B and I are all dressed up and ready to go!
Woot
Yah!
Another interview done. Now it’s time to get back to some serious gaming. 😉
I’ve seen what she’s described, first-hand. It’s disappointing. No matter hard we try, we still judge people by their appearances. We shouldn’t, but we do. Some people need to try harder to resist that urge.
As for the advice, I don’t think we should always assume “people are as or more qualified than you.” That can lead to its own set of problems. If they ask about something, they really want to know. Philosophy has a principle called the Principle of Charity. Or you can call it giving people the benefit of the doubt. Either way, you should give such people a chance. Dismissing such people based on assumptions diminishes them and yourself.
This is sort of related, less “gender” so but maybe to the same point.
One of the things that helped me in my career, was to develop the attitude that upon meeting/being teemed with/having to work under someone who clearly knew far less about my profession than I did … I bit my lip and listened to them anyway. It occasionally turned out that this person who knew next to nothing … well, that ONE thing they DID know was something I did not!
BTW, that Windows 93 link has timesink potential.
CW: Poldark E1
New series which has lot to live upto as the 70’s series was such a big hit.
Crap joke for the day:
Patrick, who was vacationing in the Bahamas couldn’t seem to make it with any of the girls. So he asked the local lifeguard for some advice.”Mate, it’s obvious,” says the lifeguard, “you’re wearing them old baggy swimming trunks that make ya look like an old geezer. They’re years outta style. Your best bet is to grab yourself a pair of Speedos – about two sizes too small – and drop a fist-sized potato down inside ’em. I’m tellin’ ya man… you’ll have all the babes ya want!”The following weekend, Patrick hits the beach with his spanking new tight Speedos, and his fist-sized potato. Everybody on the beach was disgusted as he walked by, covering their faces, turning away, laughing, looking sick!So he went back to the lifeguard again and asked him, “What’s wrong now?” “Damn, Mate!” said the lifeguard,”The potato goes in front!!”
Awesome seeing JM and DP last night! We’ve made it to Albuquerue. Commence collapse…
Safe travels! Twas great seeing you both too!
And so, we finally got around to seeing Edge of All You Need Is Kill Live Die Repeat Tomorrow (Edge of Tomorrow) tonight.
I agree with the complaints some of you had with it (final 5 minutes), but I still enjoyed it overall. Recommended for sure for any Sci-Fi enthusiast.
Tom Cruise plays the role well enough, but this movie would have been more enjoyable with someone less recognizable as likable as the lead, and with a better title (see above).
Goodnight (parenthesis)
Overall, I still thought it was well executed and I’ve tended to become more sympathetic to anything that tries to give us something different and isn’t just another sequel.
I agree. Not everything needs to be a franchise. I’d still like to see more original material hit the screen, and I don’t mean independent films.
This works the other way. Hubby and I believe in God but don’t believe in shouting it from the mountain top. Nor, before anybody asks why we believe in evolution and equality, do we believe in stupidity. Which is why we don’t necessarily pin ourselves with those who also believe in God in one form or another. Like all religions, or non-religions, there are extremes in either end. I’m a firm believer in being good, regardless of your beliefs.
I agree. I also reject the belief that people who aren’t atheists cannot be rational as if it is an either/or proposition.
While Einstein didn’t believe in a personal god, he was annoyed by confrontational atheists. His point being that the extremes of either side of the issue could be described as closed minded. That’s my point of view as well.
Phil Plait took a lot of heat a few years ago from the skeptic community when he said “don’t be a dick to believers.”
I dunno what happened to just ‘dont be a dick’
Morning Pan
Last week, the sun was shining by this time of the day. This week it’s not. I much prefer to have the sun up when I am.
Hubby says he’s in meetings most of this week. Which means he expects to have an unproductive week. Why do people have meetings if they are considered unproductive? I meet with my boss once a month. We have lunch, we talk, lots gets done and planned. That’s how meetings should be.
Tada!!!!!!!!

It’s so clean an shiny on this new page. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
Come aboard….
Shit. Missed the new page again and left some replies on the old page. I’m here now. Let’s get this party started.
So my flights and hotel are booked. I’m coming to the Mmmmeeeeeeeeeeetup this time.

Woot!
But the first rule of a meetup is we don’t discuss Bladerunner.
Cough
Me too… for flight and hotel. I’m ok with talking about Bladerunner 😉
How about unicorns?
Now I have this song stuck in my head again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyZXpReB8W4
Unicorns don’t exist.
Weeps bitterly.
Next you will tell me that there are no pegasii either.
Strangest this is that Van and I did talk Bladerunner for the Palooza. Guess it was so traumatic he’s afraid it will cause flashbacks.
And btw – – woot TRA! It will be good to see you again.

Who is taking over in his place?
That’s still a bit away… so unknown currently

I was just kidding.
But now I guess it’s ok to tell you I actually like Nickleback… (really, I kind of do.)

Saw “Lucy” tonight. What a terrible movie.
Still fun.

I dreamed last night that I was in southern England visiting someone, don’t know who, and I was trying to find out how to get north (I had no car) to try and visit Van. Oh, I was also trying to figure out how to contact him.
Sorry to hear that, Van. I know that has to be frustrating.

Also too, if I was the king, I would ban the following on penalty of death:
“Preso” as in ”please proof my preso for the meeting”
“Convo” as in ” I wanted to loop you into this convo I’ve been having with the customer”
These are NOT words.
LOL4 No they sprinkin flappy doo arent!
Do you work in a factory that makes douches? Do the people saying “preso” and “convo” also wear Ed Hardy shirts and talk about gettin “za” for lunch and whether or not they would “tap dat”?

Golly. Thanks, Cynful.
(Unless you meant Jack White, Jack Johnson, Michael Jackson, Jack Frost of Savatage, Wolfman Jack, or Jacko the Australian battery spokesman. In which case, I’m embarrassed and you should never mind the above post.)

I fear for humanity…the grocery store in our neighborhood is practically sold out! I think people panicked because of the forecast.
What will we do in the zombie apocalypse?

What a joke.
I am “moderately to severely worried” about the insistently declining state of TV “news”.
Amen brother
Will the general public continue to panic every time? Or will the weatherman become the Rokers who cried blizzard?
I didn’t know that! Apparently when people here worry, they buy produce!

I’m almost afraid to watch it now.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/jaromir-jagr-heads-to-florida-for-draft-picks-in-trade-stunner-215558165.html
A 2nd-round draft pick??
Yuck.
And for things that actually matter:

Well I say duo…
CP: Soundgarden – Jesus Christ Pose
This album is fucking phenomenal. Everytime I relisten I remember
Jesus Christ Poooooohhhhhhhzzzzzzzuuhhhhhhh.
We got caught up on the Agent Carter finale last night as well. It was indeed most excellent. While I wouldn’t be disappointed if this ends up as a single special season, I wouldn’t object to another round.
Ill buy your next round, love

Well that’s that!

I think The Duke has it out for me
You tried to buy a dune buggy first, didnt you?
🙂 Why yes, but the Duke still has it out for me.
Since the replicants/androids have a limited lifespan in nivel/film this should nail the ‘Deckard is an android’ bullshit:

It probably won’t though..sigh.

Oh? Were they wearing a Black and Blue dress?

Your crap mini joke for the day:
So you Arizonans have this in your backyard:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Binocular_Telescope

Suck it FCC, United Airlines, and your contracts!
We’ve been in an airplane at Newark airport for 6.5 hours and still haven’t taken off.
By law, they are supposed to let you off the plane after 3 hours.
That sucks you are having trouble getting back. 🙁
Technically, they did let us off and said,”Hurry and get back on! We will want to move in a hurry, just as soon as we have a new crew!”
Seems like the “squatters rights” thing should apply.
If your on the plan for that long and it hasn’t moved, you should OWN that bit of the plan.
Now they say it will go in 35 minutes.
Feel free to get back home their leisure.

Cool links of the day that I’m resharing from my Facebook feed because they may be relevant to our interests here:
Toby from “Labyrinth” grew up to be a filmmaker himself.
Second one:
If the ‘Back To The Future’ World Series prediction for 2015 actually comes true, this museum will give away a DeLorean.
Thank you!

Your crap joke for the day:

I have never been so sad not to be a Millennial.
Hammer and Tongs
I’m frightened.
Oh come on… if you were 21 you wouldnt dig on half these girls with their wicked scary senses of humor? heh
I’ve already got a date set for this weekend with the 21 sweater girl.
And I know why….
Like a rubber ball.,
It’s my work anniversary today. It feels like 10 years, vs. the actual 3 years it really is.
Being a grown up is hard!
Three years! Congrats, baby!
Congrats!
I would LOVE to see Violent Femmes at Red Rocks this summer. I do NOT love that they are opening for Barenaked Ladies.
BNL’s kids album is wonderful (thanks for the tip, jJ).
I’ve heard they’re super-fun live.
Kids stuff notwithstanding… just not a fan.
Because … it was our destiny.
“A Ranking of 1980s Fantasy That Would Please Crom Himself!”
http://tinyurl.com/ld5o4or
I just read this!
Thy guy’s on crack. I know its a personal list but COME ON
I’d mentally bookmarked that to read. This is a very difficult subject, because even the best 80s fantasy movies are horrendous.
If that Barbarian twins’ movie appears anywhere on the list, however, then we riot.
Its doesnt. But 2 words – “Cave Dwellers”.
Youre right tho. 80’s movie fantasy was overall lacking. Highly.
Ouch!
The reviews for Chappie are crappy.
Bummer
Ill reserve judgement til I see it but Blomkamp seems to be a one hit wonder. Which happens to be 2 hits less than M. Night.

You are a bright lad.
But you might get hypmotized by the junk:
https://joshuakahan.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/labyrinth-original-remake-joshua-kahan.jpg
Pah! As tho I have a choice.
Holy shit, I just sounded like Van there..

Oh Kermie
Morning Pan
It’s another beautiful day here in Canadaland
Happy, Happy, Joyful birthday Lo!

April 23rd in the UK
Because you demanded it

I do love a good mashup
Ugh. Couldn’t get through 30 seconds.
Really? I thought it was pretty wonderful.

I think Van’s post to the Facebook group said everything that needed to be said.
That was seriously brilliant
So very wrong.

Now if the kids would have been dressed in different non..um… sexy era Catwamn it could have been cool. But “wrong” is the right word
Exactly what I was thinking. It’s wrong and creepy.
Happy Birthday Mr. Pan!
mwa!
Ok Lo Pan, time to stop wearing kooky t-shirts and listening to that feisty music. You’re older and more mature now.
(Now I’m borrowing and repeating my own material)
SWEET!

Ticket booked to see Chappie in the morning.
Got to be better than Elysium hasn’t it?
We eagerly await your critical response.
William Gibson like it:
@GreatDismal: Saw #Chappie. Grinned all the way home. Still am.
A definite case of a curate’s egg.
Some good ideas, a plot that veers towards stupidity too many times and the two big stars (Sygouney Weaver and Hugh Jackman) are just wasted.
Still it looks very cyberpunkish at times, riffs on the original Robocop and was ok.
Oh and it was better than Elysium.
We crashed a wedding and saw Essbee and Sly B tonight! Not a bad Saturday.
+100

Just finished Horny Goat’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter
http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/horny-goat-chocolate-peanut-butter-porter/242410/
It was Ok. I certainly wouldn’t rate it as high as some others have.
Ive noticed Ive not enjoyed a peanut butter anything beer
Yeah. Can’t disagree there.
Has a Nutella beer been invented?
If not, why not?
I really enjoyed Terrapin Liquid Bliss, which is peanut butter and chocolate.

Original thought frightens us.
Hmmm:
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jan/25/i-am-an-atheist-but-not-joining-atheism-movement?CMP=share_btn_fb
I envy you. 🙂
