  1. FYI for the DP community.

I just re-upped the hosting account for 3 more years, so even if Deadpan ends, you’ll be able to keep coming around here until at least July of 2016… Unless Jack takes his toys and goes home (and deletes the site) when it ends. πŸ˜‰

Are you ready for a final Duel of the Fates? Submit to Jack who you would like to see in the duel and why.

  3. There has been a really interesting conversation on the comments section of David Simon’s Trayvon post, if you’re interested.

  4. Jack liked my DotF choice. He wondered if I could get a “team mush” for this little guy so I’m posting the arguments I sent to Jack for all of you to debate.

I would like to put in my argument to add Mush to the Duel of the Fates
This little character makes regular appearances on Deadpan both in the comments and the podcast itself.
This guy sits unassuming on an end table. But really, there is more to it than meets the eye.

    Better Look:
Ok, so maybe mush doesn’t look so great but it’s the images this brings to mind. Whenever you hear β€œGoodnight mush” you automatically think of a peaceful room, maybe a warm bed. What looks better in your mind than that?

    Love Prowess:
What exactly is this mush of? If people can screw an apple pie, why not mush? Maybe the mush is a result of said screwing of apple pie. What can be more sexual than that?

    Winning in a fight:
    a) When you are beaten, your face often looks like mush.
    b) Seriously, do you want to be attacked by mush? Yuck.

    I rest my case.

    • And this is great stuff. We can take the debates here and to FB for lots of meta, but ultimately, we’ll use recordings and soudbytes to pit all of the final combatants head-to-head in the Final DotF episode(s).

For more explanation, listen to this Unshow. I suppose I should also write something up. I will.

  5. I’m simply throwing out some DotF character ideas without much thought.

Marmot:(Enemy of Jack Mangan as established by Paul Mackie)

ROM: Spaceknight: (Great Marvel character derived from clunky 80’s toy, redacted out of history because of IP rights hell.

Casey McKinnon: Because Mason Rocket thought she was hawt. See http://tinyurl.com/lfvzlsa

The Amazing Screw-On Head: Reason – Lo.

Pissing Superman: With his hands on his hips.

    Porkins:

    • Ha ha, no, O great Google overlords, I have no ideas who this “ditto” person is, or how his foul blaspheming has come to besmirch this humble website. Ha ha, it must have been a misinformed, unfortunate joke on his part. Poor sap. I hope his heresy doesn’t reflect on the rest of us. You know what they say about one bad apple…

I, on the other hand am overjoyed at the tiny little box in the corner for all of my email drafts, with the weird array of indistinguishable buttons! Brilliant!

Love everything you do! Even Wave! That was our fault, not yours!

  6. That Tony Mast guy, he’s good people.

BTW, after episode 288 airs, we’re renaming this site to “Hotel California”.

  7. Lots of good stuff for the Steam summer sale. I may have to sell an organ to pay for it all by the time the sale ends….

  8. Teresa bought be the new X-Wing miniatures game for Father’s Day, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet. I may do a play by play tonight of a basic dog fight between one X-Wing and two Tie Fighters. I was pleased to discover an online training video for the game at

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuhwSma960Y

Kids have it easy these days.

  9. Question for the Canadian deadpanites. We have a friend that we want to pick on because he’s bald and we decided that Mr. Clean is the iconic bald guy. The guy in question is Canadian so if there is a better iconic bald guy in Canada it would be fantastic. I assume, however, that the answer will still be Mr. Clean.

  10. Crap joke!!!!!!

Teacher: And therefore, sperm cells are
    made up of glucose.

Student: So you’re saying that sperm
    has sugar in it

    Teacher: Technically

Student: But it doesn’t even taste like it.

    Teacher: what

    Student: what

  11. Its finally come to the point where there are TOO many tap rooms opening up in the Denver metro area to keep up with. Yeah yeah yeah “poor me”…. πŸ™‚

  12. Your crap joke for the day:

Apparently it’s no longer politically correct to direct a joke at any racial or ethnic minority, so try this one:

An Englishman, a Scotsman, an Irishman, a Welshman, a Ghurkha, a Latvian, a Turk, an Aussie, a German, a Yank, an Egyptian, a Japanese, a Mexican, a Spaniard, a Russian, a Pole, a Lithuanian, a Swede, a Finn, an Israeli, a Romanian, a Bulgarian, a Serb, a Swiss, a Greek, a Singaporean, an Italian, a Norwegian, a Libyan, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist and an African went to a night club.

The bouncer at the door said, “Sorry, I can’t let you in without a Thai. “

  13. I heard the new Stone Temple Pilots song with Chester Bennington as the lead singer. I thought it was pretty good. This might be a good direction for them.

  14. Last night I was going to a play by play of Xwing, but it turned out that I wasn’t as versed on the rules as I would have liked to have been to have a compelling narrative. Instead I’ll give a brief summery. The base game comes with one xwing and two tie fighters. You have your choice of pilots for each craft that offer unique abilities and cost factors. As an introduction to the game I choose Luke Skywalker to pilot the xwing and tie fighter pilots Mauler Mithel and Night Beast. Early in the game Luke made a wrong turn and Night Beast blew up his shields. Luke in turn scored a good hit on Mauler. Night Beast ended his last few turn away from the main dog fight. In the end though Mauler Mithel scored a devastating hit on Luke including a critical hit that blew Luke up. The Force wasn’t with him that day. There is more to the game than simple fights to the death and moving forward I think it will have long term appeal for me and my family. Two thumbs up.

  15. Hooo boy…

Casey Anthony texts to George Zimmerman:

    GEORGE – I’m sooo nervous
CASEY – Naw u got this
    GEORGE – But I killed a guy!
    CASEY – LOLZ it’s FL

    • okay … so I know I should have struck up some sophisticated conversation with a tall glass of red wine… or discussed movies with a martini, current events with a glass of scotch or even just hung out with a beer … but no. It was tequilla.
What could I do? She came on so strong, told me everything I wanted to hear, said she wanted the same things I did … and, well, I’m a sucker for the accent.

I know how this ends though … and it’s never good.
Someone forgets to tell me about “the boyfriend” I wake up in an ally behind a dumpster.

What? Another one? Well sure darlin, let’s do this!

  16. Hello, Pan.

I’ve been enjoying an incredibly restful, relaxing, restorative, and joyful week at the beach in Central California with my folks. I’m checking in from our favorite coffee shop up here.

Tony: W00t! Thank you. Looking forward to 3 more years of this awesome community being on the same domain.

Re: Google changes: I actually like the dividing up of different types of email into different tabs. *shrug*

Jack: *hugs* Consider me on your side.

Rhettro: Best of luck with the opportunity! πŸ™‚

  17. For your enjoyment:

“… dear straight girl at the gay bar… when you randomly tried to grind up on my leg… I’m kinda glad you got a vag full of the keys in my pocket…”

From my gay friend on FB…

  18. This is the first time my phone has ever been within range of a 4G signal. I’m on the 101 going through the San Fernando Valley. The Deadpan page loaded as fast as it does on my cable modem at home, possibly faster. Holy crow! 0_0

  19. Saw Martha Wainwright at The Sage tonight, the support act took experimentation to the point of boredom but MW was good even if she did sound half pissed at times.

  20. RED 2 – went an saw it this afternoon. If you liked the first one, you’ll enjoy this – as we did. If the first one didn’t do it for ya, then you probably aren’t going to become a convert with this one.

But, Helen Mirren is even more of a badass in this one than the first. Though, I think my daughter’s going to grow up to become a professional sniper now, based on her inspiration. Well, at least it looks to pay pretty well…

  21. Today? Well today I am vacuuming spider webs from under the eaves and from around window sills.
Spider webs and all the stuff caught in them.

I got out of bed for this?

  22. So far behind!

    Rhett – laps!

Who posted that Katee pic? Lord have mercy on my soul.

We finished Orange Is The New Black last night and LOVED it. Highly recommended by us.

  23. We saw the new Evil Dead on the weekend. It was a good B Horror. A few nods to the original but not a lot like it. Hubby and I had to have a discussion afterwards though as some parts weren’t clear at the beginning and the show didn’t make sense to him until we talked it out.

  24. Forgive if there’s been a conversation already, but thought on Batman being in the next Superman film? I give it a hearty MEH but I suppose it all depends how he’s used.

  25. Hopefully I wont alienate the Deadpannites here by saying this, but….
    n
The Royal Baby is coming and I think it is fun to keep up with the Royals, as I have done since Princess Di’s wedding, through the birth of William and Harry, Andrew and Fergie’s wedding, to the birth of Eugenie and Beatrice, through Diana’s scandals, the divorce, her death and watching the boys grow up. Continuing this trend is just part of my life and I hope for a safe delivery and a happy and healthy new family. πŸ™‚

  26. Anyone else excited to see Covert Affairs is back from it’s 25-month hiatus?

C’mon, EssBee– are ya with me on this one? πŸ™‚

  27. Dennis Farina has passed away. Boo!

Health Alert from your favorite Deadpan RN:

Sudden shortness of breath or sudden pain in your calf = a direct trip to your nearest ER!

  28. I can finally spill the beans on my lap. πŸ™‚

So most of you know my running saga of my employment. The economic downturn hasn’t been especially kind to architects. But after five years of working in a job that pays less than the job I had in 1996, a new offer was extended me from a different architecture firm. I get back my pre-recession pay, and vacation hours and 401k and benefits. Plus, there is plenty of upward mobility. And and and the firm is run by real people, not skesis. WooHoo!

Now I just have to let my current firm know I’m leaving. I should probably wear a helmet.
