  1. I’d have been more surprised if there weren’t such slash fiction. I shudder to think about the other such imaginings lurking upon the ‘net.

And with that, Good morning! #5 is Alive!

  2. If true it would be a travesty of epic or dare I say it..biblical proportions.

Oh and it isn’t even Friday here, just 7 hours till midnight.

  3. I have yet to enjoy the rollercoaster that is Vista.

My husband has to replace his computer soon, so then, I guess, we’ll see.

  4. XP is now those old slippers that youn don’t really want to throw out, despite your partner insisting they are threadbare and a bit whiffy.

  5. Ah reminds me of Bill Hicks:

    Q. Who is your favourite New Kid on the Block?

    A. The first one to DIE!

You know what happens when you play NKOTB record backwards?

    It sounds better.

  6. He ED!!!
Big Doings down your way with the NASCAR boys! If you are anywhere close to the Texas Motor Speedway and AREN’T going to the race this weekend you should NOT tell me.

  7. You should take your son to meet Carl Edwards at the Office Depot in Grapevine, Texas tomorrow. I have no idea where “Grapevine” is but Texas can’t be THAT big can it?

  8. Hey, Pan! I just found the video of the “freeze” mission I participated in last month!

    http://tinyurl.com/2ryo54

This was one of more than 50 events around the world, inspired by the group Improv Everywhere. I found this video because they added us to their global list of freeze events. I’m the one with the bright-blue-and-orange backpack, drinking the cranberry juice. No, I didn’t notice that the cameraman was there at all.

  9. Cool, a real Amy Bowen sighting!

Joe, I’m pretty sure Grapevine is up near Dallas. Being down around Houston, that’s about a six hour haul from my house. Not impossible, but not a regular drive either.

  10. My Texas experiences have all involved 6 hour+ drives.

That’s excellent, Amy! There have been some really funny Improv Everywhere scenes. Looks like yours was a success.

  11. And yes, I think our event was a success. I heard one passerby mention the “Frozen Grand Central” event, but other people had no idea what was going on. It was sure fun to do. 🙂

  12. Here is part of the fancy form letter they told us to send with the address for sendgin a check. His family is pooling a crap load of money together and sending in a check

Whatever you can give will help it all adds up! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

  13. not a problem … as long as they give Hugh the credit for something mailed in!

BTW: in a previous post … I thought you had written
“LOL.. these are the thighs that matter.”

  14. Erm, uh….has the Unshow landed in anyone else’s Itunes? I thought I just forgot to sync this morning, but I see that there is still no Un of Mangan in my box.

I’m going to have to go to that Pondango site again, aren’t I?

  15. I’m letting this side of the Atlantic down. The words ‘not a sausage’ should have featured in the previous message.

  16. So far, the paper today is pretty boring. Except for the rant inducing idea that they’re bringing up for the umpteenth time about making people who use the health care system more pay extra user fees, or rewarding those who have a “healthy lifestyle”.

How do you prove a “health lifestyle”?

  17. Ok, that’s better…

    … In the news.

NAIROBI – Tanzania’s President Jakaya Kikwete has personally condemned witchdoctors who reportedly kill albinos and harvest their body parts i nthe hope it will bring prosperity.
He said 19 albinos had been murdered since March 2007, and another two were missing presumed dead in the east African country.
“Sometimes, word spreads around that body parts of people with certain physical attributes like bald people or albinos contribute greatly to attaining quick prosperity.” Kikwete said in a monthly state of the nation speech late on Wednesday.
“These killings are shameful and distressing to our society,” he added.
Albinos are often accused in Tanzania of being witches themselves.

    -Calgary Sun

Wow, who knew Tanzania had so many albinos. I’ve only seen one in my whole life and their missing 19 in the last year!

  18. SINGAPORE – a diamond thong worth US$160,000 was the highlight of a lingerie fashion show in Singapore yesterday.
The Triumph Luxurious Diamond Thong had 518 brilliant-cut diamonds, totalling 30 carats, studded into the front of a black lace thong in a floral pattern. The skimpy underwear that left little to the imagination also had 27 white gold tassels hanging off it.
Danielle Luminita, a brunette model from Romania, was carried down the runway on the shoulders of two male models wearing only he diamond thong.
“It is very comfortable. It’s not heavy or scratchy or anything,” Luminita said backstage.
A spokeswoman for Triumph International, the lingerie company that commissioned the thong, said that the thong would be dry-cleaned before going on display.

I just don’t know what to say about this article.

  19. I just wanted to point out that at this moment Aerosmith (and particularly Steven Tyler) are strongly recommending that I eat the rich.

I’ll keep you updated as the situation warrents.

  20. Man, “Cherry Pie,” the hair metal equivalent to “Ache-e Break-e Heart.” Fun as hell to play on Guitar Hero however. LOL

  21. Munch time. Looks like I’m getting a Quizno’s Italian sandwich. I hope they don’t use rat meat like there commercials from a few years back would have you believe.

  22. I used to have “Slide It In” on cassette. Go where you want with that one.

I’m gonna give the “Best Hair Metal” crown to Tesla, if they even count.

Otherwise, those first 2 Motley Crue albums were fantastic. The “pre-pink-lipstick” era. The “pre-Pamela” era. In fact, I’d had an onpod “ear Buds” planned for this very subject. . . I’d totally forgotten about it. . .
    Ellipsis. . .

  23. I had the TAB for “Still of the Night.” I used to play the opening riff all the time. Makes me wish Adrian Vandenberg had a longer career.

  24. Top five best hair metal bands:
    1. Ratt
    2. Def Lepard
    3. White Snake
    4. Fastway
    5. Y&T

Bottom five worst hair metal bands:
    1. Keel
    2. Warrant
    3. Fire House
    4. Great White
    5. Skid Row

  25. I’ll have to check out the NASCAR action when I get home, doesn’t sound good though.

I wouldn’t consider Pantera a “hair” band. Well, maybe their earliest stuff. I’d put them down as “extreme” metal.

Tesla is too southern fried in my mind to be hair metal. They’re sort of an 80’s Lynard Skynard. LOL

  26. There actually is a band called Dubshack but they just formed within the last few months and are a mix of something called “Dub” (which I have no idea what that sounds like as a style) Jazz and Soul.

And I only know this because like any self absorbed person I google myself. Also have trouble registering that nick on some websites, which is why I add the 79 at the end… the year I was born…

All of this is information I’m sure everyone finds fascinating.

  27. Iron Maiden = heavy metal not hair
Heart was rock an then soft rock
    motorhead …. well

“80’s Hair bands” were, well first of all their hit(s) came in the 80s and they tended to be heavy on the “glam”

  28. IMHO – Guns ‘N Roses, Ozzy Ossbourn, Van Halen and Def Leppard were not hair bands.

For one thing … each of those groups had distinctive sounds. This would automatically kick them out of the “Hairband” category. With the exception of GnR these bands all had an individually distinctive look … a “no no” in the Hair band world.

  29. It only mortally wounded it.

“Glam” lay bleeding in a dirty alley until it was discovered by an evil (redundant?) music industry marketing type who had stumbled back there to dispose of a dead hooker and do some coke off her cold body. He then merged “glam” with metal and the unholy union brought forth the “product” we now know as the 80’s hair band.

  30. Ryah thanks so much for your donation to Hugh’s run!!!!

Evo and Ryah together met our donation goal.. LOL.. we just picked the default goal 🙂

Actually we have raised almost $2000 from family and friends, plus Hugh’s co-workers are pooling money and CBOT is going to match all donations we get!

I know j0e sent something in too so thank you to him too

    We appreciate it so much
    thank you

    ok sorry for the interuption

  31. I guess we were not interrupting any conversation, no one is here 🙂

So we finally joined the 21st century

we got rid of our tv and entertainment center and now we have one of them cool flat screen thingys 🙂

Hugh sez: just in time for the final four

oh yeah “just in time”, woo-fucking-hoo

So we might try and play by play tomorrow night after the games

Hugh sez; we are having a see the final four/give me your money you promised me for my run party tomorrow night

    🙂
    our friends love us 😉

  32. alrighty pan

we went to yoga tonight, time to hit the showers then..

Hugh sez: and then… what do you want to do tonight babe?

    I dunno…

Hugh sez: lets go to that fancy new martini bar we saw on Clybourn

    ooo.. yeah!

so we are gonna hit the showers then have martinis 🙂

have a good night pan.. be around tomorrow night maybe for play by play action

  33. No spoilers yet on Galactica! The wife and I went out last night and we’ve got the kids party to prepare for today. Of course, after having to wait pretty much a year for the new season, what’s a few more days.

Man, who knew a question about “Cherry Pie” could launch a raging alphabet game? Good thing I didn’t do my Friday GJB guess or I’d be as screwed as last week 🙂

  34. So get this, my wife’s friend who got her the job as a bail bondsman, she just got another job that she might possible be able to bring my wife into again… REPOMAN.

  35. I have to say, I feel kind of guilty pretty much telling Dubshack to give up the farpoint recap to work on his book. Then again, it was so great to hear him again on wingin it…

I just want Dub to be happy with his work and himself.

It’s good to have you back!

    Today show was damn funny.

  36. Well actually every man is different and some men can keep going well into their 90s. Viagra is just the little boost some men need.
Also i tend to think its his money and his fame and the opportunities he can offer a girl that bring him girlfriends, not his prowess.

  37. morning pan

Yes, we currently have Dr Who episode and the confidential traveling to us at the amazing speed of about 15kb per second… yeesh. C’mon intronet tubes!

I didn’t like Catherine Tate in beginning of the xmas ep before last season, but she grew on me by the end. Hugh is going to miss Martha Jones 🙂 He was sweet on her.

Hugh sez: I was sweet on her backside

lol 🙂 But we do still have the Torchwoods to watch with her

Hugh sez: we still have this seasons xmas ep to watch

we sure do. Shit- tv backlog still plaques us.

Hugh sez: we are almost done with Stargate finally though

3 more episodes! Then Torchwood, and we still haven’t made it through the last season of Weeds, but we are almost done with that

Hugh sez: and we haven’t watched any of the new shows yet… Reaper, supernatural, that one with the geek squad guy, and all the Showtime shows… Brotherhood, Tudors, L Word

Fuck. We suck. But at least we have a fancy new tv to watch it all on now! 🙂

Hugh sez: porn looks great in HD

and on that note. Its Smarty Hotties yoga/tai chi time

    l8r

  38. I saw it… and i’m still not sure about it… Is the Catherine Tate thing a setup for some oncoming greatness… or has the ghost of bonnie langford risen from the grave?

  39. Sometimes we say things just because they need to be said. 😉

It’s funny. I hear so many people say platitudes are for people who are full of shit… And they’re probably right… But isn’t *that* a platitude?

Some people see dark clouds on the horizon and say “It’s going to rain.” I see dark clouds on the horizon and say “I’m going to live.”

  40. Oops, I missed comment #268.

So – I should say happy (belated) birthday to our Deadpan Ambassador, Amy Bowen. And also to Paul (formerly) from Des Moines, who listens, but may not actually lurk on the comments page.

Welcome to the last Monday, April 7, 2008 of your life.

  41. Well, our kid managed to convince us she should get a snake. I think our biggest worry is that, with three cats in the house, she’s going to end up with a dead snake at some point. (we’re talking little corn snake, not big boa)

  42. My husband was really hoping, as we got older, we would have fewer pets in the house, but, given our daughter, we both somehow doubt it.

  43. Hmmm… I didn’t know that Chris Broderick joined Megadeth. It’s been 14 years since I bought my last Megadeth album, this may soon change. Also, looks like Jeff Loomis’ long rumored solo album will be coming out in the fall. wOOt!

  44. Happy bday to the DP ambassador, and Paul formorly from Des Moines.

Last monday already? I thought I had another month on my prepay account.

  45. Ha, ha!

Jack, if we had a wall of snakes, I think both the cats and myself might slowly back away and leave the house.

  46. All this talk of pets reminds me of that song:

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I dunno why she swallowed that fly,
    Perhaps she’ll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly –
    Perhaps she’ll die.

    There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly –
    Perhaps she’ll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird …
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
    Perhaps she’ll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
What a hog! To swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat…
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird …
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
    Perhaps she’ll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.
Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog …
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird …
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
    Perhaps she’ll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don’t know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat… She swallowed the goat to catch the dog…

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse –
    She’s dead, of course.

  47. Well if there is enough mass in the universe to make it collapse and if time starts to run backwards as the collapse begins..then today won’t be the last Monday of your life.

You will see it again on the rebound.

  48. Carrot Top? So he could supply the ca.. um, nevermind.

Nope, no shredding, just trying to commit all the notes on the fretboard to memory. I do pretty good with the first four frets, but I want to know it completely. That was the note pattern for the E strings, high and low. Four strings to go. 🙂

  49. Evening, Pan!

Is anyone looking for a brilliant employee who’s not afraid of working her ass off? My company has turned into an evil corporation. I’m pretty much over it.

  50. Fretting is the point JOe! 🙂

That sucks EssBee, perhaps there’s a place for you somewhere slightly less evil, with good pay and benefits?

  51. I’ll even take less pay! Seriously, life is too fucking short.

Lazer beams on sharks? Not quite yet, but close. Today I injected a clone with Z-Virus. Does that count?

Do you think someone would pay me to blog?

  52. Thats right j0e. I hope it was as good for you as it was for me 😉

Hey you know what? Thats totally unfair.

Hugh only has to thank Addie and Ryah.
I have to thank j0e, Evo, Jack, Alvie, and Ralph.

Hugh sez: i bet you could thank your whole list if you just helped me thank Addie and Ryah

LOL! true Hugh, quite true 🙂

we’re turning into pumpkins early tonight
    night pan
    night mush
    night cockles

  53. So, a bit of news…

As you know I’ve been a voice actor in Season 1 of Buffy Between the Lines. Recently I’ve expanded into editing and will soon also do some foley (Sound FX) work too.

In the second season, I wrote one of the twelve episodes. There is a character who is running a factory on a dubious alternative fuel source. This character I have named John Mangan.

And I am pleased to also say I have been selected to voice this character, along with two other small parts in the season.

  54. Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone!

    Cool news, JohnBoze! 🙂

Speaking of writing scripts, I’m slowly getting back into my Script Frenzy scriptwriting project. Between Friday and yesterday, I have watched both Zardoz and Logan’s Run as research. That should give you an idea of what kind of story I’m telling. 🙂

  55. I almost got some writing done yesterday. I was really feeling that flow and energy coming from that one paragraph I got down before my wife came home and stole my seat on the magic couch.

  56. Morning Pan, the sun is shining, the birds ares singing, and I’m on my third cup of tea.

Why has nobody come with tea with added caffiene?

Or maybe they have and I just haven’t seen any in the shops.

  57. …and playing on the TV is the BBC morning programme with a discussion about high heels for women and men.

Think I’ll give those a miss myself, I’m not into crippling myself.

  58. Cool news JB.

Somewhere between Zardoz and Logan’s Run? Sounds pretty cool Amy.

I think work has stolen my brain. Hopefully I’ll get it back in a couple of weeks. I kind of miss it.

  59. ok so I had a more proper look at the lollapalooza schedule… holy shite! I think this might be the best year yet.. and yes I am totally biased saying this since Greg Dulli and Trent Reznor will be at this lollapalooza. 🙂

there are a few repeats which disappoint me though

Kanye, and Lupe were both in it one of the last 2 years.

I would like to see K-OS play it and Say Anything should play it and Ministry should as well… since this album is their last album ever supposedly. Their last show ever is in Chicago in May- they should do lollapalooza as well methinks.

  60. I wanted to post my congratuations to the Jayhawks, not because I’m a fan, but because it’s been 20 years since my college, KSU, beat the Jayhawks, and the year that we beat them, they go on to be the national champion. 🙂

  61. I don’t watch Fox news, I’m talking about CNN and Real Time with Bill Maher. It’s like you can see it in her eyes that she actually both believes the flaming bullshit coming out of her mouth and that it is also wrong but is arrogant enough to believe that other people value her opinion about it.

  62. Ann Coulter is a comic sidekick villain. . . about as offensive — and at this point, about as influential — as a bad guy pro wrestler.
I believe though, that she and Bill Maher are pretty good friends.

  63. Bedtime for me. Good night, Pan.

Jack: I plan on recording some voice mail messages for the Deadpan during the course of the day tomorrow. (I may forget, but I hope not.)

  64. Morning Deadpan,

Others may say it is the last Wednesday the week, I say it’s the first day of the rest of your life

  65. Holy cow. The local paper has a 52 page insert on the playoffs. FIFTY-TWO???? We enjoy watching the playoffs. And my hubby and I even do little bets on the winners, but 52 pages seems a little much, especially since, odds are, we’re not going to go very far.

  66. Wow. That’s cool, TEB. I’ll have to get my interest up for the playoffs. The Leafs mightily sucking have put a bit of a damper on my hockey enjoyment.

  67. Ditto, try mini bets with your other half. That gets the interest going. My husband and I bet eight pennies on each game we watch (not eight cents, eight pennies – there’s a difference), and then a back rub on each series.

  68. Isn’t that the old George Carlin joke? “Why do we call Wednesday Hump Day when most people get laid on the weekend?”

  69. Reading the wiki on Happy Days. I didn’t realize that Ralph Malph starred on several episodes of Star Trek Voyager and Potsie directed several episodes of Star Trek episodes. Weird.

  70. JOe that is disturbing. Kind of funny, my sister’s ex-husband was a sound engineer for the 50’s retro band Flash Cadillac, who starred as the fictious band Herbie and the Heartbeats in the film American Graffiti. But also as Johnny Fish and Fin in an episode of Happy Days. LOL Several of the band members said that they would shoot baskets with Ron Howard on the set and that “Mrs. Cunningham” was as nice as her character.

  71. LOL! I’m still a Lost fan, even if I don’t know WTF is going on. 🙂

I need to get caught up on my Zero Point reviews soon.

  72. Back on to the Happy Days wiki. I didn’t know that it’s original pilot was presented as a segment on Love, American Style. LAS is a show I haven’t thought about for twenty years. I remember the theme song vividly, I guess that makes me pretty old. LOL
