  9. We’re just home from Sly B’s grandma’s funeral. Lovely service yesterday, and some good quality family time.

    Thanks to Jack/Pixie and to Cynful for awesome thank yous here waiting for us when we returned home from our trip.

  14. My NaNoWriMo group is doing a pass-around, round-robin story-writing activity tonight. (You write a paragraph on paper, then pass your paper to the next person, who writes the next paragraph. Passing and writing continues in a circle until you get the story you started back.) One of the stories that got passed to me turned out to be an alien-abduction story. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to turn it into Slaughterhouse-Five fanfiction for my segment. (The aliens turn out to be Tralfamadorians. :happy: )

      • 😉 Nobody died in the round-robin story. The person who got it after me was not familiar enough with Slaughterhouse-Five to pick up on the references, so she saw “plunger-shaped aliens” and decided that the abductee had been abducted for her supernatural cleaning abilities. :biggrin: My friends are awesome.

  25. We went to the movies and saw Fury this afternoon. Good for a matinee flick. I think Brad Pitt was channeling some George Clooney in this movie.

    I would have liked more “boom” in a tank movie.

  33. So this week I watched the first two episodes of the new season of Arrow.

    I’m sure Brandon Routh is looking younger as he ages I wonder if he a portrait locked up in a room somewhere..

    • I noticed the same, but I think they’re doing something with his stubble and using less black under his eyes.

      Rhettro, I only watched the pilot but was highly interested. Are you enjoying the series so far?

      • The acting is great as is the character development. The pacing is slow but seems to be picking up two episodes in. I’m enjoying it so far.

    To those Panites who follow Nascar, is there some event happening near the Calgary area? I don’t want to go, it just while I was waiting at the airport a whole bunch of drivers came out of the US receiving area. The only name I was able to catch was Kyle Busch. And then, I had to look up the name to find out he was Nascar. Google is telling me nothing for a change so I was just wondering.

    • it wasn’t a IOS emulator, just a hacked version of OSX that had drivers supporting more hardware that Apple’s release.

      I’ve seen OSX running on the original atom CPU which is about as low spec as you can get.

      • hmmm. I’ll look at it again tomorrow. The specs they suggested were not suitable to my machine. The big one was they wanted a standalone graphics card, not integrated graphics.

        *shrug* As I said, I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

  52. Three things:

    1) I got a letter from Barack Obama yesterday. So did Sly B, so I shouldn’t feel so special.

    2) I just got an email from Carole King. She said pretty much the same thing my friend Barack said in his letter.

    3) My brother was just tagged on a post in Facebook that says “the pain of being overweight is far worse than the pain of working out.” I am still LOLing at that sentiment. Thanks, crossfit gym! I am motivated now!

  72. today I performed an act of bravery.

    There was a spider on the curtains the other day so hubby had to close them but, by then, the spider hid so he couldn’t find it. Today I opened the curtains without him.

    baby steps.

  76. I *did* just finish “The City and the City” audio book. Enjoyed the Hell out of it. I’m never psyched to start China Mieville books, but he usually wins me over by the end.

    Last night, I had a dream that I was at a Deadpan Mmmmeetup that was being held in a big two-story house that looked like the one I lived in when I was in high school, only bigger, more rustic, and more cluttered. A bumch of us were staying there, including me. Jack, Van, Lo Pan, and many others were there. It was a cool dream. :happy:

    It’s the kind of film that Quetin Tarantino wishes he were capable of making.

    And I’ll just get this out of the way – it’s not really a story, more of an experience.

  95. Operation: introduce Michael Keaton Batman to the kids: complete. Conclusions: the first was ok, but far hokier than I remembered it being. Bat man Returns is actually better than I remember.

    Say, did they make any other Batman movies in the 90s?
