OK, I’ll go first. Good news, everyone!
That is good news.
I’m thrilled we weren’t last.
Third? Really? wow.
In other news, it’s official. I start my new job on Wednesday. 🙂 What’s funny is that my new office is about three miles away from Jack’s apartment.
Congrats, man!! And you can always seek shelter at my place after work if there’s a snowstorm.
Yay! Happy dance! Congratulations, I hope it is everything you want and need in a place of employment.
*lifts virtual glass*
Here’s to a long run, with plenty of raises and full healthcare coverage!
Thanks, so far as I can tell, this office seems to be filled with a lot less drama compared to the other Phoenix firms I worked for. Time will tell. LOL
Congrats, man! I’m happy for you. 🙂
Fuck plus yes!
Currently at the gym watching my daughter in her trampoline and tumbling class. Afterwards I’m going to Imperial Outpost Games to watch Xwings battle.
Many Bothans died to bring you these plastic game pieces.
CP: one day you will teach me to let go of my fears — Sleepmakeswaves
I’m not sure what’s worse seeing the slugs or discovering where the slugs have been.
Another good Doctor Who episode this week.
Edwin A Abbott would have been proud.
We’re just home from Sly B’s grandma’s funeral. Lovely service yesterday, and some good quality family time.
Thanks to Jack/Pixie and to Cynful for awesome thank yous here waiting for us when we returned home from our trip.
CD: Boulevard Dark Truth
Welcome home, friends. Excellent brew choice.
Our hearts are with yous.
CD: New Holland Brewing Carhartt Woodsman Barrel Aged Pale Ale
Kinda meh. Kinda ok.
Oh and I second the “Thanks to Jack/Pixie and to Cynful for awesome thank yous” 🙂
Oh, hey! Here you guys are!
HA! It took me forever to finger it out too
Wait, you’re quoting the me from 8 years ago? That was pretty funny though.
Still sexy after all these years
So I have to ask, are you on fire and does Rhettro need to make a return trip?
Does Lo Pan know Alvie?
What ever happened to Sarah from Charleston?
I still see her FB updates from time to time.
My NaNoWriMo group is doing a pass-around, round-robin story-writing activity tonight. (You write a paragraph on paper, then pass your paper to the next person, who writes the next paragraph. Passing and writing continues in a circle until you get the story you started back.) One of the stories that got passed to me turned out to be an alien-abduction story. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to turn it into Slaughterhouse-Five fanfiction for my segment. (The aliens turn out to be Tralfamadorians. )
So it goes.
😉 Nobody died in the round-robin story. The person who got it after me was not familiar enough with Slaughterhouse-Five to pick up on the references, so she saw “plunger-shaped aliens” and decided that the abductee had been abducted for her supernatural cleaning abilities. My friends are awesome.
Head cold is making me feel full of ugh.
Oh and listening to an album recorded in 1971 via Spotify, the future is here showing me the past…
Cool. Just because?
I like the song, and actually prefer the version they do that is almost all done in Norwegian.
If you have Spotify:
It sounds a bit less glib to me for some strange reason.
Then there is the simple joy ion listening to some Thin Lizzy.
He aint lyin’
The Van is back in town.
Thin Lizzy is almost \m/, Van!
Gary Moore, what an underrated talent.
I was looking for something and ran into this website. It may be old news for some of you, but some of the stuff I was looking for that isn’t in my local liquor superstore was found here.
Our local radio station played “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers today. <3
I don’t mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows.
Is it alive? Does it writhe? Can it survive under the sun? I cant put my finger on it.
Fucking Apple updating iTunes again. Now I need to figure out how to reset a bunch of the crap that they changed. Again.
Thank You, Jonas Hiller for putting in the performance we needed today.
Go AZ Derby Dames!
Its week one….
and that’s 1 week our team has won.
And it was super-tense for a week 1.
We went to the movies and saw Fury this afternoon. Good for a matinee flick. I think Brad Pitt was channeling some George Clooney in this movie.
I would have liked more “boom” in a tank movie.
Yoooou’d like more gore and guys run over and POW’s murdered? It’s about the crew, not the tank.
Yeah, it was ok. The crew stuff was really not all that interesting. I’ll remember the scenes of the tracer fire more than anything else.
I actually have work for today. Have some emails to answer. Audio samples to go over. A bunch of little stuff but still work.
The boss comes back today so I expect to have a normal work load tomorrow.
CP: Subdivisions — Rush
It will be a quiet week from me since I’ll be away on a business trip.
boo. Watch out for all that ebola!
Dodge & weave.
Dodge & weave. 🙂
Ok, maybe I didn’t have that much to do.
Tomorrow… I hope.
Anyway, time to clean the kitty litter.
Just booked another flight to Dallas! I’m going 10/28-30 and 11/10-12. Weeee!
It may be time for this! Good luck!
Do they not do a seAson ticket?
Til Kingdom Come / the work is done / on earth as it is in Dallas.
I’ll be in Dallas from 11/5-19 (if current plans hold). What’s more, I’ll be working at the Dallas – Fort Worth Airport. We should get a cup of coffee (or a beer) when you’re passing through.
Sounds good! I will be flying into/out of DFW (gate E21 every time). If you’re around 11/12 later in the day, I’m sure we can make that happen! My flight is around 7:30 p.m., and I could get there a bit early to hit the E Terminal TGI Fridays . . .
my email is olyejark at gmail dot com.
Your crap joke for the day:
A truck carrying electrical goods has shed its load in downtown Denver, Police say the road will be closed for about 5 minutes..
CP: “Jizzlobber” -Faith No More
Gary Moore and Faith No More – – you’re speaking my language today!
Van started it. Speaking of “speaking my language,” did you see much carnage at Imperial Outpost on Saturday? Pick up any games?
We admired the little plastic ships and star maps, didn’t hover too much over the tourney.
They do have an impressive selection of games there. We managed to resist, but there were many temptations.
This was one of those temptations:
My NJ friends and I logged many, many, many hours on the early Jolly Games editions, even creating house rules, custom cards, etc.
Nice. I ended up getting a Lambda Shuttle for my fleet.
Given the clientele at the gaming store, I’d expect it to be a Lambda Lambda Lambda class shuttle.
Indeed. I may need to start growing a neck beard.
Help me, Ogre Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.
(Three years ago, this idea might have evolved into a Deadpan skit)
Please don’t grow a neck beard. We may have to start calling you Keanu.
So this week I watched the first two episodes of the new season of Arrow.
I’m sure Brandon Routh is looking younger as he ages I wonder if he a portrait locked up in a room somewhere..
Oddly, Teresa and I started watching “Penny Dreadful” yesterday. Dorian Grey was a character.
I noticed the same, but I think they’re doing something with his stubble and using less black under his eyes.
Rhettro, I only watched the pilot but was highly interested. Are you enjoying the series so far?
The acting is great as is the character development. The pacing is slow but seems to be picking up two episodes in. I’m enjoying it so far.
CW: The Affair E2
I am looking forward to that series.
Also, about 2/3 through reading Gone Girl and really enjoying it. Looking forward to the film!
Enjoyed the first two episodes, just like the way it plays with events seen differently from the two protagonists.
I dug the X-Wing tourney and especially the custom Moving Templates! Those were neat.
Yes, those were neat. And the custom tokens too. I feel a strange disturbance in my wallet.
Beware of strange disturbances in your pants.
I’m not sure which is more time-consuming: Working on wedding stuff or doing the dishes. Ugh
At the airport waiting to pick up friends. I’ve spent way too much time at airports over the last month
This looks like a must-read, even for those with their fingers in their ears.
Registration required? Never mind.
The Van/Bunny/ditto BTiLC audio is edited! Coming soon to a podcatcher near you. . .
To those Panites who follow Nascar, is there some event happening near the Calgary area? I don’t want to go, it just while I was waiting at the airport a whole bunch of drivers came out of the US receiving area. The only name I was able to catch was Kyle Busch. And then, I had to look up the name to find out he was Nascar. Google is telling me nothing for a change so I was just wondering.
I don’t know of anything going on there.
Might be some private, fundraising or corporate event.
Van, I looked at the I0S emulater you gave me on the previous post. Unfortunately my tiny, old net book doesn’t meet the system requirements. I’m having lunch with the boss, we’ll discuss our options then
it wasn’t a IOS emulator, just a hacked version of OSX that had drivers supporting more hardware that Apple’s release.
I’ve seen OSX running on the original atom CPU which is about as low spec as you can get.
hmmm. I’ll look at it again tomorrow. The specs they suggested were not suitable to my machine. The big one was they wanted a standalone graphics card, not integrated graphics.
*shrug* As I said, I’ll give it a try tomorrow.
So Van, “Peaky Blinders” has been recommended. Have you seen it? Is it any good?
According to the reviews it is, but I missed the first series so haven’t bothered with S2.
tHAT saxophone player:
That is quite a loss. Van, I know how much you love that song.
Is there a more iconic, non-goofy saxophone riff than Baker St.?
No! But I would say that.
Interesting exercise, really. . . I can think of plenty of sax solos, but not many sax riffs – – and definitely not many good ones. Anyone? Beuller? Who Can it Be Now?
(cue the scantily dressed women and short bald guy)
“Tequila” is the only other thing that immediately comes to mind.
I see what you did there, Jack “The Sax” Mangan”
I started looking up saxophone riffs on Google. Either Google can’t tell the difference between a riff and a solo, or there simply isn’t anyone writing about saxophone riffs specifically. I did find this site with a horribly great picture of Bruce Springsteen (tops the list of rock musicians I avoid at all costs).
You complete me, Roaming Asshat.
Why can’t my Szoone Button last for 11 minutes, instead of 9 minutes?
Anyone here watch the TV mini series, Manhattan? I’m hearing good things from co-workers
I have a love/hate relationship with the series. Love the characters not so fond of the science cockups.
I meed to Google “cockups…”
That way lies madness
And a night boat to Cairo.
Oh what fun:
I’m not convinced that article writer is as smart as he thinks he is….
Rule of thumb: anyone who has an opinion on how smart they think they are (or a writing style that tries to convey such), probably isn’t nearly as smart as they think they are.
I did like the Terminator and Shwshank Redemption plot holes.
Ahhh, to be a smug college kid again…
Not dead yet. 🙂
You’re not fooling anyone. 😉
You coulda fooled me.
Another hubbiless evening in store for me tonight.
Look but don’t touch:
This weeks Person of Interest episode was awesome..just saying.
1) I got a letter from Barack Obama yesterday. So did Sly B, so I shouldn’t feel so special.
2) I just got an email from Carole King. She said pretty much the same thing my friend Barack said in his letter.
3) My brother was just tagged on a post in Facebook that says “the pain of being overweight is far worse than the pain of working out.” I am still LOLing at that sentiment. Thanks, crossfit gym! I am motivated now!
2) Barack Obama said you make him feel like a natural woman?
At least that’s more logical than #3!
4) I’m eating re-heated broccoli in my office with the door closed.
Now that is my idea of the cuisine in hell!
I’m pretty sure it’s what hell smells like.
I thought hell was the smell of fish and cauliflower in the work microwave
Had a nice lunch with friends. Got a call for work while I was out. Finally some good news by Audible.
Now, it’s orc killing time.
CP: The Crunch – The Rah Band
First heard at a school disco..the horror the horror..
Not the instrumental which I like but the school disco..I was way out of my comfort zone going to that one.
Ah, you fancy Europeans. You even have discos in your schools. We can barely afford books in ours.
CP: TV Dinners – Robert Palmer
CP: Taxman – The Power Station
I thought I sensed a theme with those choices and then you threw me on the last one.
Messing around with Spotify
CP: The Way It Is – Bruce Hornsby and the Range
CP: Too Much Too Young – The Specials
CP: Rocks – Primal Scream
CP: No More Heroes – The Stranglers
CP: Ever Fallen in Love – Buzzcock
CP Autobahn – Kraftwerk
ooooh. Next week is Halloween week. I plan to have two PBP’s next week. Three if I can swing the time.
Why is the movie channel playing this on Halloween? I plan to record it more out of curiosity but still…
I MUST see this movie.
Ron Jeremy! It has Ron Jeremy in it!
First day on the new job. So far it has been a really positive experience. Here’s hoping it stays that way.
Yay! I hope so too
Go Rhett, the Working Man, Go!
And because I love to share…. both knowledge and pain
http://dadgoesround.com/2014/10/city-attacked-today/ Some perspective.
I stole this.
Well Pan, if a enough people turn up I shall be travelling to Haltwhistle in Cumbria for a pub crawl and a good moan about work.
Didn’t get that far, Hexham it is.
You’re just making these names up aren’t you?
Yesterday I watched the final episode of ‘Intruders’ and was rather undewhelmed…an ending fit forold hammer horror flick..ugh.
We gave up on Intruders a while ago.
Hubbyless again tonight. This is why we are so behind in our television
today I performed an act of bravery.
There was a spider on the curtains the other day so hubby had to close them but, by then, the spider hid so he couldn’t find it. Today I opened the curtains without him.
You’ve just taken your first step into a larger world.
I just finished Gone Girl – wow.
We must discuss!
Corny, but neat?!
Wouldn’t it be easier to just pass out in a cave somewhere around here?
Watch out for roving sofas.
Dare I admit that I couldn’t finish that book?
So it goes.
One of my favorite Vonnegut-isms.
I *did* just finish “The City and the City” audio book. Enjoyed the Hell out of it. I’m never psyched to start China Mieville books, but he usually wins me over by the end.
Hubby said he should be home early today. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Getting the run around from a company when a product you’ve brought from them has not been delivered is bloody frustrating.
.. And lesson on why you should research a company before ordering:
:-/ Sorry, Van. Keep on them!
That’s it, it’s time to move. That’s the third spider I’ve seen in the house this week.
They just want to be friends.
Apparently Constantine starts tonight.
Isn’t that surgery available where you can remove your eyeballs and have them replaced with shiny new ones? No? Too much SF?
The phrase ‘too much SF’ does not compute.
Yeah, I love San Francisco too.
*hook appears from the right of the stage*
Wokka Wokka Wokka
That explains the hook I saw. 🙂
CW: Gotham E5
So I’m not upto speed on the Batman universe, what’s the scuttlebutt on who the medical examiner turns into?
E.Nigma – The Riddler
The one who thought the new drug effects were interesting.
Yep that’s Edward.
Ok, this reminds me of a WW2 weapon that was initially wireless but then went wired:
Over to you Lo….
The power is out. Seriously. WTF?
Ugh. This is how I will remember my 40th birthday…
Britney Spears Gets Her Own Holiday on Nov. 5! http://www.eonline.com/news/591606/britney-spears-gets-her-own-holiday-on-nov-5
A well deserved WTF!
Happy early birthday? 🙂
When you are alone in the woods with a smartphone:
For non FBers, tonight I discovered I like Sherbert Lemons (a type of boiled sweet).
The force is strong with the Tumbleweeds today.
CW: Fringe S1 E3
Okay, fuck you S1 naysayers, it’s great!
Apart from the metal in the blood line…tsk tsk.
Nay nay nay nay nay (I’ve never seen Fringe)
Goodbye BST and Hello GMT.
Our time change is next week. Enjoy the change!
I’ll will chime in, and then it will be a three-way…
(Oops, I posted on the old thread)
Last night, I had a dream that I was at a Deadpan Mmmmeetup that was being held in a big two-story house that looked like the one I lived in when I was in high school, only bigger, more rustic, and more cluttered. A bumch of us were staying there, including me. Jack, Van, Lo Pan, and many others were there. It was a cool dream.
I had the same dream, except in mine, Lo was a giant talking salamander.
I want some of what you’re having
As long as Im giant…
Ho ho ho
Looks like we’ll be hitting another trunk or treat today.
When did these things start? Where’s the Fox News expose on the “War on Halloween”?
Bloody Americanisms..oh wait,
Since it doesn’t look like there’s been commentary on the pan yet –
John Wick – epic.
It’s the kind of film that Quetin Tarantino wishes he were capable of making.
And I’ll just get this out of the way – it’s not really a story, more of an experience.
Haven’t even heard of it.
That seems to be the word. We may have to go this week.
Wow, Ed! Great to hear good comments for this flick!
I heart Keanu.
I’m also expecting vengence for the loss of his lil’ sidekick.
Bah! 2nd January in the UK..
Operation: introduce Michael Keaton Batman to the kids: complete. Conclusions: the first was ok, but far hokier than I remembered it being. Bat man Returns is actually better than I remember.
Say, did they make any other Batman movies in the 90s?
CW Quantum Leap, S2 E5. There’s nothing wrong with the classics
That’s what she said
…and then there is this:
