A husband in his back yard is trying to fly a kite. He throws the kite up in the air, the wind catches it for a few seconds, then it comes crashing back down to the earth. He tries this a few more times with no success. All the while, his wife is watching from the kitchen window I muttering to herself how men need to be told how to do everything. She opens the window and yells to her husband, “You need a piece of tail! The man turns with a confused look on his face and says, “Make up your mind. Last night you told me to go fly a kite. “
New page!
Slipped in like a ninja.
I hope it was consensual!
I hope it was consensual!
And that goes double!
Well I was thinking of the new page, gawd knows what you were thinking…
I was going to add filthy bugger to that sentence but decided against it.
Hi, my name is Maxwell Smart, and I’m an alcoholic.

Darn shame that it’s been so long.
agree
So tonight I bought the ebook version of ‘The Quiet Earth’, the book the film was based on.
Judging from the plot summaries on Wikipedia the film has a better ending.
Hey, who moved my cheese?
Donnie Darko while fighting a vicious sinus infection/head cold.

Morning Pan
Could some one please let the sun know it’s morning and time to get up.
Today on Where is My Secret Santa Parcel:
USPS claims it is actually in its destination city and expects said parcel to be delivered today. Hooray!
Yesterday, when I went to clear the bed for the night, Pidge was face down with his head jammed into the pillow. First I asked hubby if Pidge was bad or something. Hubby said no, he just wasn’t paying attention. Hubby and I had to have a talk about his treatment of (stuffed) animals.
Women and cuddly toys.
/shudder
Hubby is just as bad. He always brings something soft and cuddly when ever he travels. It’s even to the point where his work Secret Santa gave him a stuffed animal.
CP: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Opening Title) — Bear McCreary
CW: There’s Something About Mary
I was never a big fan of that movie. But then, I could never figure out what the big deal was with Cameron Diaz. She was always kind of meh to me.
I found it funny in a crude way (Benny Hill sort of crude).
I see my DPSS gift has shipped! I believe it will make it to its intended recipiant by Christmas morning!
Wow, the spammers are getting smarter and smarter. I just got an email from my cable provider saying my payment didn’t go through and could I please update my info. Funny thing is, my cable payment does come out around this time. I was smart enough to NOT click on the link provided but it was good enough to make me wonder. I then contacted my cable provider personally and found everything was fine. A less cautious person could easily be fooled.
I have since forwarded the message to my cable provider and they are looking into it.
Happened to me a while back, they even had my name spelt correctly on the email. It was claiming my payment hadn’t went through.
Yup, my name was spelled correctly too (although, since my email is my name I guess that wouldn’t be too hard). Have to be extra vigilant.
Which made it more weird as my email addresses don’t contain my name, scary stuff.
I am personally offended that episode 100 of JMDP isn’t in the top 10. Also, I have only heard about 3-4 of these podcasts.
99% of them were unknown to me too. And it also seemed like they only focused on the ones from major media outlets. (?)
Oh yeah, to those whom I gave audio books to, please don’t listen to City of Demons. I realized I put the wrong file on your flash drive. Really, there is a better version out there somewhere. Now I just have to find it…
USPS says my parcel has arrived at its destination. I may faint with shock.
In related news – – thanks for the wrapped SS gifts, TRA! I’ve put ’em under the tree for Xmas day.
Glad you got them. I was starting to get worried. Hope you enjoy them.
🙁
My dad is back in the hospital.
That spot on his brain that was bleeding after he fell off the roof … started bleeding again.
Apparently last Friday he was dizzy and had problems standing. He didn’t tell anyone that at the time.
Currently waiting for him to get a CT scan.
Anyone with positive thoughts to spare … could use a few.
Fingers crossed and all that positive stuff.
well wishes, positive thoughts and all things good headed your way
Best wishes to you and your dad.
You got all my thoughts, buddy
Big time support and best wishes. 🙁 I hope for the best.
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get to see the new Hobbit flick in Edinburgh.
Well, if youre gonna see that piece o’ crap at least it’s somewhere appropriately beautiful
I know it’s a far inferior shadow of the original 3 films, but I’m looking forward to it.
I suppose I’ll be saying the same for episode VII a year from now.
Your DPSS Package arrived at its destination today, per ME!
You are so thoughtful! Jack, Wee Peeps, and I will devour the Canadian candy goodies. My wrapped gift will wait to reveal itself ’til Christmas morning. Ugh. (If Jack can hold out, so can I!)
Nope. Brand new. I will start it next week, once I’m done the one im currently reading
I think it’s time for lunch. There’s leftover curry chicken calling my name.
So, I was going through old bookmark links and I stumbled upon the one for Wingin’ It 3D. It looks like it was picked up by someone in Japan. http://www.winginit3d.com/
oh that’s odd…
Mark from Memphis should call their voicemail line daily.
Only if Robert G. Parent poetry slams it
The local news lady had a case of the giggles. I guess tomorrow marks the third anniversary of Kim Jung Il’s death. They were discussing some of the things he was suppose to have done, including walking at three weeks old and getting 11 holes in one he very first time he played golf. I don’t think I’ve seen our noon news person so giggly
I binging on Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. Season 1, while this nasty sinus infection tries to get the upper hand on me.
The series only started getting “watchable” aroun episode 10. Now, I like it.
So the nurse in the NICU told me it is “touch and go” for my dad.
They need to cut into his skull to relieve the pressure from the bleeding … but because he had been on blood thinners they are having to wait for that to get out of his system before they can do the surgery.
They have some sort of test they do to check his clotting ability and this morning it was just above a 2.something and they needed it below 1.4
As of 3 hours ago it had gotten to 1.4
They were testing again at 5pm – don’t know the results yet. Thye had originally scheduled his surgery for tomorrow morning but the nurse thought he was degenerating pretty quick from the pressure that was building. So the surgery needs to be sooner than later.
Seems to be a race against time.
I appreciate you keeping us posted, J0e. Whatever best wishes and positive thoughts from afar are worth, you have them.
This upon this
Thanks all.
They have just rushed him to surgery. They didn’t feel they could wait any longer.
We are all here
For you, j0e. It sounds like the clotting time (aka INR of 1.4 that he had is a fairly stable value. Hugs to you and your family.
Hugs, jJ
*hugs* to JustaJ0e
🙁
Oh J0e. *hugs* 🙁
So happy to see all the positive Deadpan Secret Santa news coming in! 🙂
I came to share mine, too. EssBee, thank you for the Death Star ice cube (er, ice sphere) mold! It will definitely see some use over the summer.
These are cool Amy. We have one. A word of advice, use warm water. It freezes clearer and you can see the markings better.
We watched Only Lovers Left Alive tonight. Yep, it’s a Jim Jarmusch film. How is it Tilda Swinton is 14 years older than me and looks 14 years younger??
Saw it at the flicks, well acted but rather weird. but as you say it’s a JM film.
Watching this, Christmas Vacation, Die Hard, and listening to the Star Wars Christmas album are all yearly staples of mine
I think we’re all pretty much over the stop-motion Rankin-Bass specials, but I’m still always down for the (animated) Grinch and the Charlie Brown Xmas special.
Agreed… I’ll break out the Rankin-Bass for olde tymey sake but usually its just on in background.
Grinch and Charlie will always hold up. Unlike the John Goodman voiced sequel to Frosty
Four days to go till I get 7 days off, it’s going to pass slowly.
Tarasenko was on fire last night!
That name no longer has any meaning to me…
What the Puck? 😉
Update –
Things look much better today than yesterday.
My dad’s surgery went well last night. He is doing pretty good this morning but due to confusion with the drugs and the poking around in his brain, they have had to restrain him to keep him from removing medical stuff. Given he is very claustrophobic, this isn’t helping.
That aside, now we just wait to see how he recovers.
I find it interesting that, on a site where the word FUCK runs rampant and kids shouldnt be on, that the word FUCK on a picture needs to be deemed nsfw.
GoodReads says I read 30 books this year. How can it give me a count when the year is not over?
Who knew t he mumps would affect my hockey team so much? It seems every other day I have to put someone on the injured list.
Our team has apparently run into the Black Death this week.

Here is a ranking of every episode of every Star Trek, ever. 695 Star Trek episodes -from The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and The Animated Series. http://www.playboy.com/articles/star-trek-episode-guide-part-one
Yes, it is an article the playboy site. So if that is blocked where you are, you’ll have to be creative.
I think I agree with his #1 on the list.
Oh jj do you know how long it (boobs)took me to click thru that (boobs)??? And I only clicked once (boobs).
For me, Best of Both Worlds is #1 with CotEoF a close second (boobs)
Do you have an obsession with boobs Lo?
His Maffia name? “Boobs Lo Pan”
I mean…
I’m ok with the top 4. #5 I disagree with. Best of Both Worlds is excellent, though I think the second half isn’t as good as the first. I’m glad the author counted the animated series, though it has been ages since I’ve seen any of it.
The bottom of the list are horribly bad episodes. I agree with that. 😀
“The bottom of the list are horribly bad episodes”
Some of those I had tried to repress from my memory. 🙂
No6, is one of my Fav ST: TOS episodes, based in a classic Frederic Brown story..even though the writer claimed he had never heard of Arena…Brown got a credit.
I don’t think I’ll be clicking that link on a work computer. 🙂 (It was just for the articles. Honest!)
I have a deep affinity for the best episodes – – mainly from TOS, but also the few good ones scattered throughout the latter shows.
But goddamn, there are so, so, so many terrible episodes.
It’s funny, I’ve always liked that episode in spite of the rubber, Godzilla like costume of the Gorn.
Others around me (all my sisters) were not able to overlook the Gorn suit and HATE it.
I recently watched the whole of the Animated Series and found it as it should be – the bad eps were some of the worst Trek ever. The good ones fit right in as classic stories. It’s a worthy ‘Season 4’ addition to TOS
That’s what I recall. And TOS really was that way too. But I still love it. 😀
And I love “Spock’s Brain”. 😀
‘Spock’s Brain’ is the equivalent of Taco Bell. It’s awful for you but damn Ill watch it every time its on.
Ack! You just want to be dominated by a woman with a remote control…
Two campers are hiking in the woods when one is bitten on the rear end by a rattlesnake.”…I’ll go into town for a doctor,” the other says. He runs ten miles to a small town and finds the town’s only doctor, who is delivering a baby. “I can’t leave,” the doctor says. “But here’s what to do: take a knife, cut a little X where the bite is, suck out the poison, and spit it on the ground.” The guy runs back to his friend, who is in agony. “What did the doctor say?” the victim asks. “He says you’re gonna die.”
Well that was a but of an anti-climax, the ending did remind me of bester’s ‘Tyger1 Tyger’ where the viewer discovers what the girl can do.
Jesus Christ, all I did was a few rounds of batting cages, and I feel like I finished a 10-round Wrestlemania bout with Andre the Giant. This whole 40s thing is no fun.
You’re not supposed to stop the ball with your chest.
RE: Joe’s joke: why did the dirtiest of all possible responses immediately spring to mind?
Chestnuts…
Tis’ the season to be jolly
Ay one hear a date yet for a US showing of the Dr. Who special?
Past several years, it has been on Christmas.
Here in Canada it’s showing on Christmas Day. *shrug*
New Dead Sara album March 15. ditto!
Thanks!
The Dropbox folder just got a whole lot more…metal
It might need some Christopher Cross and Dan Fogelberg next as a counterbalance.
Paging Helen Reddy.
Catchup post.
Van: You’re welcome! (re: Christmas card) I hope you feel better soon.
ditto: I need to delete my backlog of emails on my oldest, catchall email account. It has recently gotten to OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAND!!!! (yes, really) (yes, I am a huge nerd) :silly: It’s my Yahoo! Mail account, and I’ve had it for at least 12 or 13 years, I believe.
I deleted 10k emails from gmail to get it down to about 9.5k.
Actually, now that I think about it, that’s 9.5k threads which is how gmail reports things. I used to keep all my mail on my computer, but I lost everything due to some serious crashes and bugs–it was a weird confluence of events. Anyway, at that time I decided to switch to gmail. I probably would have switched sooner, but it took me some time to convince myself that gmail was secure(ish) and would stick around.
Now I’m fighting to get my mail client and gmail to work together in the way I want them. Sigh.
The internet tells me that the gift I sent to my Deadpan recipiant, arrived at the address the Ambassador gave me.
Back to work today, still no clue why I blacked out, but things seem to have settled down.
Someone needs to get a clue
So that Downton Abbey must be getting big in the USA:
There’s a bad Lady GaGa joke I can make here… but I’ll refrain for now. 😀
Joke already initiated! Booooooo!
No, that’s not what you are here for. 😛
Donde es Gaga?
JW : Legend of Korra Series finale
Sad to see the this series go, but loved the ending.
Hinting that the lead was bisexual in a series aimed at children..wow.
Hmm, that’s one that we lost track of. I know we finished the first season and part of the second. Definitely enjoyed it, but just failed to keep up at some point.
Did the series get to finish its story like the original Avatar?
I never got to the end of the original Avatar, so I cannot say.
Korra did come to a satisfying conclusion even with a baddy who give up far too easily at the end.
Morning Pan
Today’s spam mail first line: “Please josiah felt her up his head.”
(I never see more than the first line as I refuse to open these)
Lucky Josiah?
What is that Brazilian fish called?
I’m thinking of cutting my hair. Not as short as it use to be, more along the lines of a bob. It’s so dry in Calgary, my hair tends to get quite flyaway.
We’ll see how I feel after Christmas as I won’t be cutting it until the new year anyway.
I had not realised how truly terrible the film ‘Mama Mia!…and I liked the singing Buffy episode.

Just waiting for my iPhone battery to give out.

I had forgotten how much of a pain it is changing the wifi password on my router, not for the act itself, but entering the new password on all the devices with wifi.
To see 2001 at arty cinema or see Die Hard at arty cinema.
I have to confess to only having seen both films on the TV.
Oh hell Kubrick it is.
Oh tomorrow bring on the Blue Danube
Though the blue berry Looks a little purple
and the maple syrup looks a little murple
Oh no mater what you say you’ve seen
well the Danube isn’t blue, it’s greeeeeeeen!
2001 the novel was my hook that grabbed me into scifi literature. I had only read film novelisations before this, but enjoyed 2001 so much that I started reading other ACC novels.
I still think the book works better than the film, but not going to turn down the chance to finally see the film in a cinema.
Oh and I can see Die Hard later in the week :-p
I’m with Van on this one. A choice between Die Hard and 2001 on TV I would probably go for Die Hard. But the chance to see 2001 on the big screen (which I have never done) would be something I would jump at.
Just, for the love of God don’t bother reading 3001. I enjoyed the original three Odyssey books. 3001 pretty much destroyed my opinion of Clarke as a writer.
Valid point if you want sleepy time at the movies. Give me Die Hard at Christmas in cinema ftw
Thus Sprake Lo.
I felt that I enjoyed the film 2001 a lot more because I read the book first. I have seen Die Hard on the big screen already, but given the choice, I think I would still pick 2001 to soak up all the Kubrick visual goodness.
…and that was great. The BFiI did a good transfer to digital.
BFI rather
I did see Die Hard in the theaters when it came out.
I’d also agree that 2001 is the better big-screen experience. Never read the book; I’ve only read Songs of Distant Earth and the first Rama from ACC.
The book explains why HAL went mad and what happens to Bowman at the end of the film.
I had forgotten the classic ‘oh my god it’s full of stars’ line is not actually said in the film.
“Now I Have Machine Gun. Ho Ho Ho”
Trumps all.
The “oh my god it’s full of stars” line was actually added later. We have a director’s cut with it added. Also, it was put into the sequel movies.
I still find Childhood’s End to be the best ACC novel for my taste.
This may have been a digital transfer from one of the original prints. There was about a minute of music with no video before ‘Thus Sprach Zarathrusta’ kicks in at the beginning of 2001, and an actual intermission screen (no video and music again) half way through the film.
As for ACC novels, ‘The City and the Stars’ is still one of ny fav, but I prefer the short story it was based on (Against the Fall of Night).
A bit of insomnia tonight. Looking at past and present web surfing suggestions.
We had a fun night last night with the Lo Pans! Killer Bunnies, Evil Baby Orphanage, and Chupacabra Dice (thanks Bunny) were played with glee.
Lo, the Archiving Turntable works like a gem. Volume is seriously low, but that may be the age of the album.
Jj – to an earlier question you asked, the tech LP loaned me allows me to break the MP3 file into tracks.
It can depend on the album, I remember one Moody Blues album that had no gaps, one track bled into the other, PITA to rip.
RIP!
Mine was a choral album from 1968-69 that my mom sings on. Super find for Xmas!
Is a hardware thing or software thing, that allows you to break the tracks?
I have to agree with her that I think option 1 is the mostly likely and what I bloody wanted to happen anyway..cough
The new Hobbit movie was meh for me.
I’m holding out for the 10 movie series of the Sillmarillion.
I would love to see a series of movies covering the stories in the Silmarillion.
Made by someone other than Peter Jackson.
And trailers:
Mad Max looks like great fun. Meh on the new Terminator and the new Jurassic Park trailers. Huge meh on The Rock’s next disaster movie.
Where for me the Terminator trailer tipped me over from ‘No way!’ to ‘oh yeah!’
For once, Van and I are in complete agreement.
I was set that I wasn’t going to give Jackson my money on this one due to downward spiral of the last two. But I’m in healing relations mode visiting my son in Colorado Springs and he wants to see it. Not about to tell him no. I’m hoping the actual battle of the 5 armies is enough to make up for the rest of this series.
An old man and woman were married for many years, even though they hated each other. When they had a confrontation, screaming and yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man would shout, “When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!”Neighbors feared him. They believed he practiced black magic, because of the many strange occurrences that took place in their neighborhood. The old man liked the fact that he was feared. To everyone’s relief, he died of a heart attack when he was 68. His wife had a closed casket at the wake. After the burial, she went straight to the local bar and began to party as if there was no tomorrow. Her neighbors, concerned for her safety, asked, “Aren’t you afraid that he may indeed be able to dig his way up and out of the grave and come back to haunt you for the rest of your life?” The wife put down her drink and said, “Let him dig. I had him buried upside down……”
More crap about Jane Fonda on my FB feed, I did rant a bit I’m afraid.
I was tempted to comment, but bit my tongue. The bit about Fonda was not what came across first.
In future I’m just going to block the links to people who post this stuff.
My misses is pissed of with me again.
Last night while she was fast asleep, I gently removed her tampax and replaced it with a party popper leaving the string hanging out.
I’m telling you, that woman has no sense of humour!
My sister’s family said goodbye to their beloved Belle today. What a sweet and gentle soul. Even though she was my sister’s dog; my life was touched by Belle-y. I’m very sad today. I didnt get to say goodbye. 🙁
Sad news 🙁
Very sweet dog. 🙁
The BBC radio adaption of Good Omens starts tonight..oh yeah.
That’s one Id like to hear
I don’t think the radio broadcasts are region locked.
I recall enjoying the book (thanks, Bunny!), although I can’t remember much about it all now.
I think you’ll only have to stream the episodes online, as they’re released.
Seriously, are jJ’s dad’s and Vanamonde’s heads alright?
Cuz I’m watching the Elmo Christmas special and I don’t think it can get much worse.
Fate, tempting you are.
Thanks Elmoyoda!
I’m not the one with a big nose!
Surprisingly, the fates don’t seem to think I tempt them when I ask if it can get worse. Now, if I said something was going great, fantastic, perfect, then I’m done for.
Also, getting excited about the promise of something to come is a sure fire way to fuck it up.
Santa spoilers: Santa is Kevin James.
Kelley Ripa is teaching Elmo something in Hawaiian. She looks like she is 13.
New Santa Spoiler: Santa is no longer the Queen of Kings. I no longer know who he is.
And it’s over! Life may go on! It’s A Christmas miracle!
And a valuable lesson was learned by all.
Something something don’t get meth in your fur while looking at little boys??
So, Colorado people. Not sure how familiar you are with the Colorado Springs area. It seems that Phantom Canyon Brewing Company is about 10 minutes away from my son’s house and Trinity Brewing Company is about 17 minutes away. Ever heard of either of these? We want to go out and hang somewhere tonight.
I enjoy Trinity. Not familiar with Phantom Canyon
Neo’s jealous.
ooh la la!
I’m very familiar with Colo Springs. Both are great! I’m about 35 minutes away right now at my folks.
Awesome. Any idea where I can find craft beers that aren’t all in 6 packs? All the liquor stores here seem to be jerks about letting you buy single bottles unless they are the overpriced bombers.
Try Cheers. Circle (?) and Galley I think
Cheers was the place I went to that wouldn’t let me break up 6 packs. I saw a Total Wine when we were on the way to Garden of the Gods. They tend to have a huge singles selection.
CP: Wicked Eyes & Wicked Hearts — Trevor Morris
Yea.
Just back from visiting my dad. He is having a good day today AND they’ve moved him out of the NICU!
He was sharing some of the visions/dreams/other that he remembers from the time just before and after his surgery. wild
tie-in: He took me to see a re-release of “2001” in the cinema when I was 12.
Yay JJ Dad. That’s a very good sign!
Woot!
2Woot to quit.
Yea! Glad to hear that!
Good things all around for JustaD@d. May the good news continue.
Page 3 still cracks me up. Santa girl patrolling for crime. 😀
CP: Black Stone — Ume
I think Monuments is my favorite album from this year. What are your favorites?
Hmmmm that’s definitely up there. The new Electric 6 was definitely uneven. I’m realizing I’m woefully unprepared for this question…
NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
BUT DO THEY EXPECT THE MUSICAL FRUITION?????
I think Arianna Grande and Linkin Park are the only full albums from 2014 I’ve listened to. (Both were available free at one point from the Play store.)
Thus, Hunting Party wins by default.
In that case … I think Weird Al’s new album was the only full one I heard this year.
I liked it.
Another one of my favorites from this year. I also greatly enjoyed Meg Myers’ EP and BABYMETAL.
That new Linkin Park is extremely OK. Even Rakim couldn’t elevate it to greatness. My fave albums of the year have been from:
Weird Al
Vanishing Point
Opeth
The juryt is still out for me on the new In Flames, Mastodon, and the “new” Pink Floyd.
CP: My Silver Lining — First Aid Kit

Missing Essbee?
Her booze I suspect.
Well nice to actually see Die Hard with the swearing not censored.
The showing got off to a rocky start when the 20th Century Fox logo looked liked it had been up scaled from the VHS release (“are they using a DVD?” Was one snarky comment from the row behind me), but the quality of the rest of the film was fine.
Marvellous..
Yippie Keye Ay!
Melon farmer!
Cuteness Alert for Christmas Eve Eve.
Is Jack wearing his “Santa’s Little Helper” outfit again?
As we prepare for 2015, I know we often find ourselves on different sides of the various issues. However, I think I’ve found something that we can all get behind:
This is beautiful. I worry about their Conservative opponents from Hazzard County, Tatooine, though.
I concur.
“Theres something dead wrapped around her aorta.” These are not the words you want to hear at 11:15pm on Christmas Eve Eve, after working all day and an additional 6hrs on-call.
I’m not sure I want to hear that in a horror film.
So I have acquired all the episodes of ‘Now and Again’, bring on the binge watching.
While I’ve heard of some of these (not all), I admit, I’ve only played one (Broken Age).
Jack and Desert Pixie, the Xmas card arrived, thank you.
Morning Pan
It’s Christmas Eve day here at the Bunny household. It’s just hubby and I. Happy and warm in our comfy chairs.
Kid’s aren’t coming over until tomorrow when we eat, drink, and be merry.
And where is the cat in all of this?
Today, kitty is in lap heaven. Tomorrow she will be cowering on the bed. I may move her heating pad into the bedroom (from my office), tomorrow so she will have some comfort out of people coming over.
Van, your card came in today, thanks. You would not believe how mangled the envelope was. I’m surprised i got it at all. :silly:
Poor card, must have had a hard flight across the Atlantic..
Why thank you Seagate. There is a firmware update for the two HD drives in my NAS enclosure.
There is no indication what the new firmware fixes.
You can not run the install the update if the drive is being used in a RAID configuration.
The two drives are in a RAID configuration.
So the only way to update would be to take a drive from the NAS, stick it in a PC, wiped it and do the update. Then put the drive back in the NAS and rebuild the RAID config from the other drive. Then do the same procedure for the other drive.
Think I’ll pass.
Happy Christmas Eve, Deadpan Friends! Be Merry and Hug your loved ones!
Curiouser and curiouser:
In the UK, Fringe S1 on Netflix has the season finale (where Olivia meets William Bell) ilabelled as episode 20 and the episode before that (with the young woman coming back from the deAd) as episode 21.
Wikipedia to the rescue, episode 21 is Unearthed, which was shown on the s2 run but was actually filmed during the S1.
Though, I think you’ll be surprised. Santa’s elves put the wrong thing in the package, though the packing label said what you originally meant to sent me. I hope they charged you the right amount since what was in the box was a lot more expensive. It was a collector’s edition Dr. Who watch.
Last night, it felt like Lo Pan sent me to the he’ll of last-minute wrapping.
He’ll? Do you have an iPhone?
I felt if I had to be in that hell, I would share
The Ducking He’ll of Autocorrect.
Merry, yo.
Christmas cheer and all that silliness!
Have a day!
Think I’ll take two.
You too. Hopefully with both beer and cheer
X-MarksTheSpot is a pirates favorite holiday. #reaching
…And Lo Pan bless us, every one!
He does, friend. He does
It’s Christmas day so what is hubby doing? Vacuuming. Seriously. I told him to stop.
I really liked I’m Only Joking and Come With Me Now by KONGOS but Lunatic dropped two years ago and I didn’t particularly care for the rest of the album.
I now stink of smoke.
Wood smoke or pipe smoke?
Who knows!
I enjoyed the Dr Who Xmas special.
Ok, setting offin 5 minutes
Superman Returns is not as bad as I remember..and Kate Bosworth makes a better Lois than Amy annoying as fuck Adams.
Bad Santa Ale tasted with Sly B and Lo Pan! Now it’s officially Xmas!
SO GOOD!
So jealous!
Trying to decide if I shall have a beer tonight.
I have my ONLY indoor Track Meet of the year on Saturday.
I have to be on the road that morning by 7am to get there in time for my event. As tired as I am, I am considering just laying low and getting to bed early tonight.
Watched “Pee Wee’s Christmas Special” tonight on Netflicks.
I had forgotten how wonderfully wrong that show was.
It’s a kid’s show but everything is just ever-so-slightly off, that it make kind of creepy.
Did a certain someone Pannite receive their SS gift from this Pixie?
Your crap joke for Boxing day:
A motorist, after being bogged down in a muddy road, paid a passing farmer five dollars to pull him out with his tractor. After he was back on dry ground he said to the farmer, “At those prices, I should think you would be pulling people out of the mud night and day.””Can’t”, replied the farmer. “At night I haul water for the hole.”
What kinds of lazy slacker societies also have Boxing Day off??
Because I want to join them. Right now.
I’m not sure you are built for the weather in the UK or Canada….
Heading after seeing ‘Unbroken’ at the flicks, an interesting film.
+home
Was it good? Cause its getting shit on by critics and audiences alike
And that was supposed to be this year’s strongest Oscarbaiter.
It was interesting, worth checking out.
I may stick with the book/documentary. Oh wait there isnt a true documentary. Pity
This months BTiLC issue made me literally lol
CW: The Interview
So far, I can understand why some people think the whole Sony Hack was a publicity stunt for a crap film.
Yeah, you aren’t missing much if you never get round to checking it out.
It took way longer than expected for the Devils to scapegoat fire coach DeBoer. I hope team management gives the next coach some on-ice talent to work with. And I hope DeBoer lands another coaching job soon.
I liked the Christmas special. And I like Tangerines. 🙂
We enjoyed the Christmas special. Is tangerines a think in the UK? Is it similar to mandarin oranges in North America? (the idea of giving them at Christmas, not the fruit itself)
My mom always put tangerines in our stockings at Christmas. I’m not sure where she learned the tradition. For whatever reason, mandarins and tangerines seem to be a holiday tradition in many places around the world.
I did not have the MEET I was hoping for. Only went 9′ 6″
Others did well … but not I.
How can you have any pudding …
Indeed, next time beat the meet
I was looking for the spinning top at the end of the Dr. Who Christmas special.
To be fair it didn’t have Leo in it, which was all for the best.
Now I feel compelled to finish catching up on New Who to this point. (I watched the first half of Eccleston’s season earlier this year and really liked it. I should really get back into it.)
Carrie Fisher is on the QI Xmas special.
She’s looking well worn.
When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not.

Oy, kids are exhausting!
Sorry, cant hear you over my passing out…
Preach!
The days with 2 in diapers may have been the most tiring.
One in diapers and three possessed by satan.
Not really-just noisy.
satan=santa=satan
Yeah, the pea soup projectile vomit and headspinning are tricky.
Today I found out that my church is having a Tamale Throwdown (a cook-off with different recipes and judging) on January 10th, as a fun way to prepare for our monthly meal for the homeless the following Wednesday.
Nothing cooler than a rainbow defecating unicorn..
When I grow up, I wanna be that unicorn.
This afternoon, I was feeling adventurous and eager to try something new, so I drafted the first blog post for my new personal site. I will probably finish it tomorrow.
Feel free to share the link when ready, if you’re inclined, Amy.
No surprises on the list, but some surprising omissions.
Goodnight :Carl:
I was under the impression that Wealth of Nations and Origins of the Species, while containing essential ideas, are essentially unreadable.
Then again, there are sections of the bible that are unreadable, no matter the version. That whole genealogical section in particular.
a whole lot of begatting go on..
I’m usually hip to Neil’s jive. But, even I have to admit he comes off arrogant and obnoxious with this list.
He’s not proposing a list of books that make you seem smart. He also said that “If you read all of the above works you will glean profound insight into most of what has driven the history of the western world.”
I think he’s right.
I don’t have a problem with the list itself. It’s his explanation of what you will learn; particularly from reading The Bible. I’m an atheist as well, but I didn’t read the Bible “to learn that it’s easier to be told by others what to think and believe than it is to think for yourself.” If one is going to read the Bible as a non-Christian it should be to a: gain insight and understanding into what drives the Christian religion (e.g., a humanist perspective) or b: to have a full understanding of what the Bible teaches in order to have legitimate discussions with Christians that are trying to convert you. Neil is typically one of the better atheists when it comes to the “don’t be a jerk” movement (meaning don’t be a jerk by specifically belittling the beliefs of others as that just comes back to bite atheists in the long run by feeding their preconceived biases). It is OK to disagree with others beliefs all you want. Just don’t belittle them. He is one of the founders of the “don’t be a jerk” movement so I’m a bit disappointed to see him taking a jerk-ish stance towards the Bible. Upon a second reading, the rest of the list seems fine.
No, that’s not what he said at all. He didn’t say anything like what you imply. Again, he said “you will glean profound insight into most of what has driven the history of the western world.”
He didn’t say you will be a better person for reading these books. He didn’t say that these books were drivers of “good”. He said you will get insight. You’ll understand history better. That is true. There are other books he could have put on the list, but the set he chose are good for this purpose.
As for the bible in particular… knowing what is said in that book and how it has been twisted through the ages will provide you both insight and protection from zealots of all stripes. Nothing he said in that particular post disparaged the bible in the way you imply. And he certainly wasn’t being a jerk, in this particular case.
Yes, that is what he said at all. It is a quote from the link:
1.) The Bible (eBook) – “to learn that it’s easier to be told by others what to think and believe than it is to think for yourself.”
Unless the quotes on the link refer to someone other than Neil. He definitely said exactly what the quote I originally put said. That is what quotes are typically for. It is astoundingly uncharacteristic of him. That’s why I’m upset by it. I hope my wrath hasn’t been placed incorrectly with him.
The article is fairly unclear about it, but I’d also assume the statement is a quote from NDT.
I don’t think it’s unfair to state that the Bible instructs people what to think and believe. Would it be be unfair to say that’s all it does and all it’s good for? Absolutely.
Speaking for myself, I don’t think you were being an asshat at all, um, Asshat. 🙂
And to be clear, my statement that “how [The Bible] has been twisted through the ages will provide you both insight and protection from zealots of all stripes” is what Dr. Tyson really meant when he said “to learn that it’s easier to be told by others what to think and believe than it is to think for yourself”. I base that on the context in which he framed the list. And given the history of how The Bible has been used in our history, I feel pretty confident in that interpretation.
Yeah, I didn’t take any of that list as condescending, just obvious.
It seems like the same list that 95% of my old college profs would have given (except that hippy Professor who would have added “The Celestine Prophecy”).
Also to be clear, I’m not taking umbrage with you or trying to be particularly antagonistic. Just trying to get my point across. Well aware I can be a jackass in doing so and apologize if I am.
I’ve moved on from DAI. Missed most of the Bull stuff because of the way my party was set up. Not sure why he didn’t get together with Dorian in my game though, they were always together as part of my party.
Probably won’t go back to it in the near future. 95 hours in a game is plenty.
And, while I’m not sure how it happened (didn’t hit the “heart” replies) I ended up romancing my least favourite character, Blackwall. I found him such a condescending bastard I was glad when he took off. I didn’t do any of the war table missions to look for him simply because I didn’t miss him.
Morning Pan
Just a quick hop in. Have a very busy week so don’t be surprised if you don’t hear much from me until next Monday.
While we didn’t have a white Christmas, it seems we will have a white New Year. Currently -20C here in Bunnyland.
Brrrrrrrrrrr! Brass monkey weather.
That funky monkey
We were all thinking it.
So punk You thought only North Koreans were pissed off with Team America..think again:
Get up, get up, get up, get, get down, double-oh-seven is a joke in yo town.
This one…
CW: Call The Midwife Xmas Special
Heart that show. Now I have something to look forward to on DVD
Us too – wonderful!
Update – favorite album of the year.
I heard 2 cuts from “Queens of the Stone Age” played on my local public radio station last Friday night.
I liked. Sorry Weird Al.
Can I choose it as my favorite after only hearing 2 cuts?
yes!
Good band. I didn’t know they had a 2014 album.
I think the cuts I was hearing were off of “…like clockwork”
But it was new to me 🙂
I thought it was a good album, but it didn’t wow me. I missed out on seeing them in concert this year due to being sick.
You wow me…
Speaking of hearted shows – blew thru 2 seasons of Vikings in a week. Man that’s a fun one
Coming back February 19th for Season 3 🙂
Cant wait. Its my new Sparticus except less campy and more character driven.
*sigh*. I love you Lagertha Lothbrok
Been using Netflix to watch the first season of Avatar: The last Airbender.
Although Katara discovering her healing powers and not helping the lad in the wheelchair in the next episode was perplexing.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was an incredible ride. The did a great job of making characters that grow throughout the series and that are shades of grey rather than strictly good or evil (suck it Disney).
Ah, turns she still had a lot to learn when it comes to using her powers.
Shouldn’t the heroes be fair-haired and righteous and the villains be dark and treacherous?
Back to the grind today . . .
It’s as if you’ve never been away.
One more day of freedom for me
I think I speak for everyone who had to work by saying Lucky Duck
I haven’t watched any of Avatar, but I followed along a bit. As soon as I heard how it ended, I expected something like this. Frankly, I’m surprised it took as long as it did.
I really need to step up my game. I am rusty at school work and studying. My new job is kicking my ass and I suck!
Who wants to whip me into shape?!
So, it’s a bit sleepy, but I’m digging David Gilmour’s “On An Island.” I’d never heard the entire album before. “The Endless River” is ok too, but I think “Island” is better.
I was just gonna post that. She was much more than Dexter also. Freaking too young… which is being said way too often these days
CW: The Wire S1E1 remastered
Yes I’m a heathen how did you guess?
At least you didn’t say Buffy!
I don’t recall, Van. Is this your first viewing?
I’ve seen clips, but this was the first time I sat down and watch a whole episode.
+ed
+from Texas.
Christ how could you?
The flesh is weak.
This is one of my favorite shows ever. Watching it remastered is akin to watching Kolchak the Night Stalker in ultra glossy HD. It simply takes away from the show.
That being said if this is your first time experiencing the show then I cant fault you.
“The flesh is weak.”
My favorite weak! Much better than shark weak.
I think I mentioned before watching ‘Where EaglesDare’ in HD, the makeup on the actors was really obvious..I mean more obvious than an orange balanced on your nose.
I’m going to give benefit of doubt to the PlayDoh folks. This appears to be a clueless, innocent mistake.
If this is able to ruin Christmas, then I hope she never finds two ball ornaments dangling too close together on the tree.
This one burns me. It comes in a play-doh cake decorating kit. It has a plunger. They had to remove the plunger in order to pretend to see a penis.
They’ve obviously never decorated cakes and that is the real tragedy.
Time for some Kraken nog
Release the Kraken!
Since I’m quoting obvious things today
Not sure if happening on the North American stores as well:
Brick Moon…that’s up there with flatland in the age department.
All were free Kindle books using the US link. All but two are very short, ranging from 9 to 26 pages.
Picked them up. Thanks for the tip.
If I was pissed and started getting maudlin I would probably say it was great to meet you all again this year (and great to meet people for the first time) in a slurred voice and then I would fall asleep.
But I’m not pissed, so that thought will not be spoken, but it was written.
If it was spoken we probably wouldn’t hear it so I’m glad you wrote it.
It was great to meet you too.
Squishy!
Are you going to start singing “Auld Lang Syne”?
Not for 8 hours at least..hopefully I’ll get away with just humming.
… or typing it out even.
Speaking of maudlin, I seem to have woken up on that bus as well.
End of the year and all.
Wondering how I de-clutter my life.
So much STUFF that I have collected and haven’t touched in years.
I only held on to stuff that really meant something to me … but add enough decades of even, “selective collecting” and you get … STUFF.
Anyone got a good strategy for dealing with this “STUFF”. :/
I have to declutter at the end of january, some pain is on it’s way.
jJ: moving my MIL in with us and turning our garage (storage) into a bedroom did it for us! Now we have her STUFF.
/sigh
For paper STUFF, you can always take digital photos.
For other things… photos are an option, otherwise you need to decide on how meaningful it is for you. Is it worth displaying? Or are you just keeping it for the memory? If it is just for the memory, then a photo might be fine. Is something else associated with that memory? Do you really need to keep all of it?
You can get plastic bins and pack away the STUFF so it doesn’t take as much space. Put a label on the bin with what is in it, and date it. If you never re-open the bin, think about whether or not you should keep it.
Hope this helps.
Or, have ditto over!
Come for the beer, stay for the de-clutter!
Get my drunk till I pass out, then throw all my stuff in a bon fire.
Sounds like a plan.
…. As we all sit and wonder if mgmt will tell us to leave early ….
Arent they busy making a new hipstery album?
I just got my “Happy New Year, leave at 2:30” email
Leave at 3:00 here. I’ve already sent my reports home.
And with a flash… I am gone
Exposing yourself to the public..tsk tsk
Jealous….?
No.
I already shared this with Jack, but NYE at our place will consist of cold medicine and chicken noodle soup (already simmering).
cough
Happy New Year to all of you, loved ones!
Same to you EssBee. I wish you lots of rest and healing 🙂
Be good you all!
What cynful said! NyQuil makes a lousy midnight toast, but do what you have to to get everyone feeling better.
Wow.
Just found out someone is mad at me because they’ve been sitting around waiting for 2 hours for me to go shopping with them. Only, they never TOLD me they want me to go shopping today or even that THEY were going to go shopping today.
That’s my absolutely favorite way to be in trouble! Put me on your shit list for failing to do something you never told me about.
Good thing that I woke up in a maudlin mood or this might have … well, fuck.
:insert scowl here:
Yeah well Im pissed at you because Ive been waiting here all day for you to post!
SO… erm… there?
Yeh.
Sorry for the whining. I guess that’s what bartenders are supposed to be for.
Dude we are ALL each others bartenders here!!!!
I gotta remember to tip my waiters and waitresses.
🙂
Cheers was filmed before a live studio audience.
Oh I think you did that a few months back, sir!
I’ve got the booze.
CE: Canadian candy!
Caramilk for the xmas win!
Oh I meant to tell you they have a lot of that wonderful candy that Bunny brings at World Market. Except the awesome illegal choking toy ones that I love so much
Kinder Eggs! I’m sure the next time you come over, you’ll still be able to find some under the furniture.
I thought I saw some at the candy shop you took us to in Boulder next time you go that direction
Tonight I don’t have a party to go to, so I’ll quietly drink a toast to all of you. In my imagination we’re all ringing in the New Year together at one big party.
ditto mam
Can we wear fanciful masks?
Yes, please do.
Unless it is that and nothing else….
*shrugs* Ladies choice!
Sipping Cointreau and eating sausage rolls..yum!
Well just gone midnight, Happy New Year deadpanners!
Happy New Year, you future person Van
Happy time-travel, Van!
Happy Judgement Day, Van!
Hope this is you BEST ONE EVER, Van!
I am not long for this night and certainly won’t make it til midnight. So I’ll wish everyone a great new year now before I disappear completely for the evening. Thanks to everyone on the deadpan list just for being the great group of people you all are.
I’m with this guy…well, not actually there. No, I better stop before this becomes “Spaceballs”
The crud has claimed me as well. Since Van has already confirmed that 2015 is arriving on schedule, I can feel not guilty about sleeping through its arrival to Texas.
Audi Lands Ein, y’all.
Brian Regan live tonight! And now we’re home for the home stretch.
Nice. Always good to see a show on New Years!
We made it!
I hope 2015 is fun and successful and full of enlightenment.
Happy and Healthy New Year 2015, Deadpan!
Muah!
Well I just popped my first anti-histamine of 2015.
I just popped my first… erm…. never you mind
…and your first crap joke for 2015:
A nerd was walking on campus one day when his friend, another nerd, rode up on an incredible shiny new bicycle. The first nerd was stunned and asked, “Where did you get such a nice bike?” The second nerd replied, “Well, yesterday I was walking home minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up to me on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, ’Take what you want!’” The second nerd nodded approvingly and said, “Good choice. The clothes probably wouldn’t have fit.”
Well that’s the 3 episode of The Wire put to bed, I’m enjoying it so far.
I was actually still meh on the show at this point. It took many months for me to get back into it and really get hooked.
Due to work and stuff, this was my first New Year’s all alone in quite a while. I don’t recommend it.
So I watched Harlock: Space Pirate. It needed more hand-wavium.
Unsweetened almond ‘milk’ was a bit of a fail for me, thankfully it works fine in smoothies.
I tried that in coffee.
I was underwhelmed. It could work in a pinch but would not be my “go to” choice.
CW: Deep Space 9
The episode where Sisko crosses the line to bring the Romulans in to the war with the Dominion
This episode is one of the many examples of what made DS9 bloody great in the later seasons.
Well ticket booked to see ‘Birdman’ this weekend, been a while since I saw Michael Keaton in a flick.
You didnt see new Robocop?
I did and completly blanked him.
Altogether now:
Doh!
Oh no worries… I still havent seen it
I think the criticism of the new Robocop was excessive. I enjoyed it for telling essentially the same story while updating the themes to be relevant to the present time, much as the original made its commentary on the 80’s
Much better than that godawful Total Recall remake…
I am Ebert to Ed’s Siskel on this. The new Robocop was awful awful awful. I would not buy it if you paid me a dollar.
I was too distracted by Kate Beckinsdale kicking ass to get that annoyed by the new TR.
I maintain my no reboot, no reinvisioning, no reimagining policy when it comes to modern movies. I haven’t seen the new Willy Wonka, Robocop, Total Recall, Halloween, etc. And, I feel totally fine with not having those new memories forced into my head with the old ones.
Van that usually works for me too but even Kate in leather could barely get me thru the last Underworld film. And I love that crap as much as I love the crappy Resident Evil films. Which is a lot.
TRA, what about Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, ironically starring Marky Mark?
“Now I’m gonna talk to a monkey. Hey monkey…we’re sorry. Dont be mad, monkey”
I watched the Marky Mark Planet of the Apes before I started my ban. Wish I hadn’t. I have not watched any of the other Planet of the Apes remakes. The only one to slip through the ban so far has been the newly redone Star Treks.
I got myself all caught up on the Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. over the past week and a half. The show really kicked into “fun show” mode around half way through season 1. Season 2 started off good, petered out for me a bit around the 3-6th episode, but ended the Winter Finale strong enough to get me to keep watching, when it returns in March.
I’m not sure what show Jack and I will watch next. Maybe Vikings! We are slowing making our way through True Detective. This show is a molasses-bowl-of-quicksand-mind-fuck. It’s a thought-provoking ride, for sure!
Happy New Year, everyone!
Go team Lagertha!
Like
The first 3 episodes of True Detective have been mesmerizing. Brilliant writing and acting. That Matthew McGonnigle is about as good as it gets, these days.
Is ringing in the ear asupposed to be a good way of ringing in the new year?
Hey Deadpan
We Braved the 24 frikken below and are at hubby’s office as he prepares stuff for back to work tomorrow. The fact I was willing to go out in this silly weather to be with hubby makes me the awesome wife
FYI -24C = -11F.
-24 is too much. Too little. It’s 57F here and that’s just the way I like it.
57F is -24 of what I like.
Another pet peeve, UK actors doing crap US accents in UK shows.
I’m looking at you Foyle’s War
Is that the one that Capaldi was in?
No, this one stars Michael Kitchener, the series has been running for years so Capaldi might have guest starred at some point.
I had to look it up. I was thinking of The Thick of It, which I only know of because of Tucker’s mouth.
I’ve probably mentioned it before, but T Cat and I were watching both the new Cosmos and How We Got To Now. Sadly, we were a bit disappointed with Cosmos and felt that Tyson sometimes sacrificed clarity for… well a number of reasons. HWGTN, on the other hand, had clear technical explanations, but sacrificed some historical accuracy. And sometimes Johnson made inexplicable logic leaps. Both shows featured a number of historical figures that you likely never heard of. Overall, we enjoyed HWGTN more than Cosmos, but both were worth watching.
I still have the new Cosmos to watch, never heard of HWGTN
HWGTN is also unknown to me, but your description is definitely intriguing. I feel like we’ve been watching a lot of junk food lately; I’d like to get some nourishment back in my viewing diet.
I enjoyed the Wild Card games this weekend (except the Phoenix game that only aired on ESPN). Football!
That also happened to be the worst game. I dont have espn either.
I was rooting for the Cards, but Cam Newton is so easy on the eyes . . .
dat Superman…
We spent some ill time last week, while not watching football, coughing and watching a few fun things:
American Horror Story – Freak Show – watched about 3 episodes. This series is one of our favorites, but this season (no spoilers) has been a disappointment so far, and a bit too scary to watch in the evenings for my family. Not sure if Sly B will continue with it, or if it’ll be one for me to finish solo.
Dr. Who – we’ve been rewatching the new series for several months now, and are finally caught up to where we stopped watching due to loss of BBC America. We’re about 3/4 the way through Series 6, just finished “The Girl Who Waited,” which I contend is one of the best episodes of the entire run. In this rewatch, I like Rory more than I did the first go and Amy less. Matt Smith is m’eh. I’m not sure I like this “rule #1, The Dr. Lies” Dr. The writing sure took a dive when Russel T. left.
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries S2. LOVE THIS. We have 4-5 more episodes to go on this.
I suppose I should give Who another try. Rory was really the one that destroyed the show for me. That and the atrocious writing. Matt Smith was indeed meh. But Amy, like a certain Panthers quarterback, is so easy on the eyes…
You should at least watch “The Girl Who Waited” episode.
Oh I did. I managed to get thru the whole 6th season
Like Evangeline Lily’s character on Lost, Amy Pond is lovely to look at, but a horrible person. Rory is a little bit whiny, sure, but she takes his devotion to her completely for granted.
I found Matt Smith to be fun and appropriately eccentric. Not my favorite Doctor, but he gets a B+.
The writing was alwaysalways goofy, but Moffat should still be replaced.
I used the word ‘but’ frequently in this post, but it was for points and counterpoints.
But..
I was never that impressed with RTD penned episodes, the best ones were written by other writers. Moffat is getting slagged off, but under he RTD he wrote a bloody amazing episode called ‘Blink!’
Oh and I love The Miss Fisher episodes.. She’s sassy.
I get what people are trying to say when the compare the RTD era with Moffat’s reign. But, I also think it’s a bit unfair. Comparing everything to the high-water mark so-to-speak makes everything look bad in comparison. That’s like saying all of Star Trek sucks because none of the other episodes are as good as “City On The Edge of Forever”.
I know this is odd coming from me considering my stance on some shows, but I try not to have double-standards. All I can say is preferences and expectations are a killer duo. When shows fail in either or both respects, you can’t help but dislike them.
In any case, I’ve enjoyed all of Dr. Who’s that I’ve watched. I’d say that Moffat’s era is no worse than some early pre-RTD seasons. There are great episodes and bad ones. For the most part, each season is fun. And I’d rather have Dr. Who around as it is than no Dr. Who at all.
And he’s also responsible for turning the Angels from extremely scary and wonderful villains to cartoony nothings via season 5’s “A Time of Angels”
No but ditto there’s a difference between writing that doesnt compare to a high water mark and just shit writing in general. Season 5 was complete shit writing and that’s where I lost interest.
This being said I now realize I lied to EssBee and havent seen any of season 6. So perhaps Ill give it a go. Unfortunately Ill have to re-watch season 5 to remember wtf is going on
Personally I feel the Angels should have been a one shot baddie like Sutekh in ‘The Pyramids of Mars’.
They wrote themselves into a corner with later stories, it reminds me how later TNG stories reduced the menace of the Borg.
I agree with both of you, and note that I’m not saying that Moffat’s era has been good, only that I enjoy it still. The first season with Matt Smith (Series 5) was pretty uneven, though I will argue that “Vincent and The Doctor” was very good. It was my favorite episode of the season. The Pandorica episodes… meh. Series 6 was much better.
BTW, I like Rory. 😛
NOTED! You sexy beast
No! YOU SEXY! 🙂
It still is a mind fuzz for me to think that Vincent is Datak Tarr in Defiance.
Dammit, he is, isn’t he? I thought he looked familiar but I must have missed his Dr. Who listing when scrolling through IMDB.
I’m not thrilled they are planning a live-action version of GitS, but ScarJo is a good choice for Kusanagi.
To be honest Im not a giant fan of the original, but I can see how a live action might upset
I see the knives are out on Twitter for them not casting an Asian actress in the role (the lass from Pacific Rim is mentioned).
I figured that would happen. lol
And Rinko Kikuchi would be a good choice too. 🙂
I remember really digging the original 2 films, and being appalled at the goofiness of the show episodes. Great philosophical cyberpunk.
Ethnicity issues aside, SJ does seem a good choice for the role. Maybe Under the Skin was just a warm-up.
I’m shredding, shredding and I hope you like shredding too…
Not as much as Yngwie Malmsteen
I feel quite sorry for the shredder when it stops from overheating.
Mike and Raph dont
I may have just killed it, the old bus pass was the final straw.
Doesn’t Michael Angelo Batio wear wrist guards with cooling fins?
Ah managed to get the old bus pass out, it’s working again.
CP: Creepy Little Story — The Glass Child
My cat has a bink crust on her nose. She’s very sloppy when it comes to drinking milk.
bink = pink
CP: God Mode — Ramin Djawadi
Van, I finished the book you gave me for Christmas. I quite enjoyed it.
Next up: ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie
🙂
Looking forward to reading that one. I really enjoyed the first, though it was a bit difficult to get into.
This one will definitely make our list. Loved Season 1!
While we didn’t bother with the US version, the original UK version was quite intriguing…and depressing.
Still, excellent cast and we’ll be back for the UK season 2. Damn shame we’re going to be something like 2 months behind. Aren’t we living in one world yet?
Nice. I haven’t played any of the Witcher games, maybe I’ll start with 3. Have you had a look at the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight “Batmobile – Special Edition” ditto? Might have to get that for the PS4.
I’ll have to check that out. 🙂
Of course I have the Witcher 3 special edition pre-ordered already 😉
Well, looks like the Dr. will definitely continue:
Admittedly, I was overall quite underwhelmed with this season. While I thought the actors were more comfortable in their roles, the overarching storyline with yet another recycling of old villains was really tiresome.
The season ended well, especially with the Christmas special.
God youre so full of shit!!!!!
(Im so kidding I have never seen the special 😉 )
How did you know?!?!?!
*hides plunger*
The typical human has about 15 lbs of shit in them at any given time, so he was just playing the law of averages.
No, I don’t know why I know this…
I can recommend fruit smoothies to reduce that figure quickly.
cough
Ed wins this weeks “DID YOU KNOW?!?!” factoid
According to legend, John Wayne had 42 lbs in his. . . tubes. . . when he died.
Must’ve been all that jerky and tack on the trail
That might have been what they really meant by “True Grit.”
CW: BtVS S3:E8.
I love me some Spike amd Dru
Especially Flashback elisodes to Angelus, Darla, Spike, & Drucilla!
Squeeeeee
I’ve just seen the dumbest video ever.
They boil coca cola and coke zero.
Coca cola leaves a sugary residue Coke zero doesn’t.
No shit Sherlock!
No Demshitz…
Reminds me of the guy at work that tried to get me to stop drinking soda because he had seen a video where someone dissolved a nickel in a glass of soda. My only response was “good think my insides aren’t made of nickel”.
So, Tyche had a “Flash” Facebook contest to give some coupon codes for a free copy of our audio book Blightcross through Audible.com
For reasons I’m not sure of, we didn’t give them all away so if you want a code, pop me a line and I’ll give you one along with instructions on how to redeem it.
Excellent, Bunny! Thanks! Dumb question: do you need an Audible account?
And did you work at all on the audio for this one?
I think they make you sign up for an account but what you do with it after you get the book … *shrug*
We got notification in the mail today that my neighbourhood will be losing its door to door mail service by this fall.
I can’t decide if being told this by mail is irony or not.
#isn’titironicdon’tyouthink?
#we’renext
Van, sent you a “coded” message :silly:
Ooooooh!
#littleorphananniesecretdecoderring
#jealous?
#duh
Since the code give you a credit on audible I was tempted to get another book, but went with blightcross.
#mildlyevil
I don’t understand. Why are all you people putting number signs in front of everything? And why are you running your words together. It makes the words harder to read.
Just so you guys see what I’m talking about, here’s a recent posts from this guy, who we’ll call Schmatt Schmontoya:
I love seeing people blame the networks and not the provider for the outage of NBC with direct tv. Notice the mindless faux viewer has not caught on to this in terms of dish vs faux news? Right wingers are usually not that bright.
#foxnews #dish #dishnetwork #nbc #koaa #directv #cbs #abc
t is too bad Elise Stefanik got into office. I don’t know anything about her except that she is younger and youth in politics is what we need…but her party affiliation and the influence of such evil people like Paul Ryan makes her a waste before she even gets started.
#elisestefanik #fail #republican #toobad #stefanik
And this homophobic one (#whyamifriendswiththisguy):
Come on rainbows fans you should have chanted for your team to lose so you and the rest of America coups enjoy the sea chickens on the road losing in the playoffs and s3 harbaugh to Michigan with a loss. Win/win for you and america! #49ers #nfl #sanfrancisco
All the gays love the Niners!!!!!!
So the obvious asshat question is: considering your comment “#idon’tevenlikehim”, his duchebag political rants and his homophobic drivel, is there a good reason you haven’t simply unfriended the guy at this point? My super asshat powers tell me the answer will likely involve him being related in some form or other (family member or spouse of a family member).
See below, sir
#unfriended
And reading this guy’s posts, I can see why my Republican friends think Lefties are douchebags. Ed, I find him repulsive too!
#unfriended
WTF did I just read?
I just come here for the #ing…
I’ve come to realize the Facebook is like cocaine. Hopefully I won’t offend by invoking some classic Bill Cosby –
Cosby – so my friend tells me he into cocaine, man!
Cosby – I ask him what it does for him.
Friend – Well, it amplifies your personality!
Cosby – Yes, but what if you’re an asshole?
Facebook = Cocaine, QED
This is perfect #fromTexas
I just saw the best goalie performance Ive seen since I can remember. Semyon Varlamov with 54 saves in a 2-0 win in Chicago.
As good as he was… that’s how bad the rest of the team was.
The Coyotes also participated in a lopsided shutout tonight…..
These are excellent. If you have a World Market in your neck of the woods they usually have em. Those and the wasabi which are wowyzowy
I don’t have a World Market in my neck of the woods. Time to go hunting on Amazon
I think Fox News tends to be a blight on humanity, but the folks blathering on about faux news tend to be just as bad. They lack the compassion necessary to have a conversation.
So, am I the only old crotchety bastard that still calls # a pound sign?
Don’t make me go all £ on you.
Get off my number sign
Book Smugglers have made all the short stories free for the day:
Dammit, Cynful! 😉 Although, I wouldn’t have chosen FFDP. . . Maybe Alison Krauss. Or In Flames.
And you guys have chosen the 4 Kenny Loggins songs I know.
I’m in your head! Nah, I’ll just blame it on our birthdays.
“And you guys have chosen the 4 Kenny Loggins songs I know.”

and… “HWTTDZ” – Dream Theater
The epic 20 minute version!
And alternating time signatures every other measure.
Playing With the Boys – Eminem
Your Mama Don’t Dance by no one ever ever ever again. Or by Korn.
I would not prefer Korn
Old folks say that if you get her home late it’s a sin.
Or maybe “You’re Momma Don’t Dance” by Triptykon. hehe
Speaking of… I’ve been wondering if Lo’s ears have been bleeding because of items left on Dropbox.
Have been! Enjoying In Flames and Sanctuary. I cant get into Dimmu tho Ive tried.
Havent got to the rest yet.
Cool! Dimmu isn’t something I’d recommend getting into at the start. Most will find it too saturating. But if you build towards it there’s a chance you might like it.
Youre probably right. Definitely not saying I wont give it another shot!
So Dimmu is like anal?
So I’ve heard.
#itsporridge
I dont remember that song
Good.
One more, then I’m out – – that divorce song (which Google tells me is “The Real Thing”) by Mike Patton.
In honor of Nicholas Cage’s (the King of Crazy) birthday let’s start a fun and irrelevant list.
Name your favorite Nicholas Cage performance and what modern (or at least still alive) actor would you want to see play Nicholas Cage in a Nick Cage biopic? Like so:
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Christopher Walken
I’d like to see Nick Cage’s performance in Face-Off as performed by John Travolta.
That is also my favorite NC film!
Dwayne Johnson
When Peggy Sur Got Married — Carrie Fisher
Well she currently looks like him…
Raising Arizona.
Bobcat Goldthwait.
I could never understand the appeal of Nick Cage. I have friends who drool every time his name is mentioned.
That being said (and using a movie not mentioned yet) I guess Drive Angry was a fun enough flick. – Oscar the Grouch
Drive Angry was fun, but Satan’s employee upstaged Cage.
100% agreement. Other than Raising Arizona, I can’t think of a film where he was any better than OK.
And Holy Krypton, Thank Zod his Superman film never happened.
You guys are no fun. His appeal is in his crazy and obviously you havent seen Bad Lieutenant. ANd hate as you might on his win, he was stellar in Leaving Las Vegas. But his real fun is when he just goes nuts and you have no idea why he’s acting the way he does. He’s pure pleasure to watch
I did see the Bad Lieutentant.
I haven’t seen Leaving LV. . . I hear he was brilliant in that one.
He scores nerd cred for naming his son Kal-El, but he still gets the finger from me.
Bad rap, man. He gets a bad rap.
His real life is interesting. I don’t know many celebs who intentionally buy a house becuase they THINK it’s haunted.
Who wants to place bets this will get cancelled because it too expensive to make?
Oh and that rent a bad guy English actor should banned from villain roles till at least 2025
1. Its a mini series so no, no cancellation
2. Who fucking cares about English baddie… Hayley Atwell cures all.
Just watched it last night. Rather enjoyed it.
I can see what Van is saying, it is well made. Not sure how THAT got slipped past the money people!
Some of the characters are a little … comic bookish but, well … you know
Agent Carter has already achieved something Agents of SHIELD hasnt – Marvel movie quality
I’m really impressed. And not just for…erm… two reasons
At some point today I’m going to have to go out and brave the yuck. Hubby decided to make the stove really happy and now I have to get a new fuse for it.
If a meet up is going happen this year, talking about it will need to start soon.
I’ll get my coat.
There you go perpetuating the myth of the Brit being the bad guy….
I blame Die Hard.
Actually, I was thinking the same thing. My spring calendar is starting to fill.
While played by a Brig, wasn’t Alan Rickman’s character German or something like that?
Yeah, but he wasn’t fooling anybody!
The 1780s are still fresh on our minds, Van. Don’t even bring up that shit you pulled leading up to 1812.
Anyway – – let’s hope ditto pops in today. He had an exciting idea for this year’s MMMmmmeetup, if folks can be free in the summer.
We’d be happy to put up people for the MMMmmmeetup. We are on the outskirts of the city, so people can even camp in our backyard. There’s lots of room and parking here. The airport is about 45 minutes away, but we’d be happy to pick people up.
T Cat and I would also be very happy to make breakfast and lunch here to save on your expenses. We’ve hosted parties of over 30 people so we are pretty experienced in feeding a large crowd of people. 😀
There are a number of nearby hotels that are pretty affordable. We also have some friends that would also be happy to help, though I know the stranger factor is an issue for some.
Dates are probably not an issue just yet, but I agree that getting it on the Calendar soon would be a good idea.
As an FYI–I’m not sure if it is an issue for some–but May is probably the month with the most tornado warnings for us. That’s unlikely to be a problem over a weekend, but it is something to keep in mind.
When does Tornado season finish?
Cmon! Live a little
Bring your red shoes.
There’s no definitive start and end; it really depends on weather conditions and the severity of the thunderstorms. The worst part is typically the end of April to mid-May. After that, the odds of a bad storm go down pretty quickly.
July and August can get really hot here: 100 with humidity. April can be nice, June would be best, followed by September.
While I cannot put up people at my place, my best friend has also offered her place. I will be staying there as shuttle driver and chef if anyone would like. There are at least three bedrooms and plenty of space there as well.
They are good people and occasionally have listened to Deadpan, at least a little. 😀 The house is about 30 minutes from here.
We have a bedroom with a queen bed, and an office where I can put an air mattress. The rest of the house is fairly open. Sleeping on the couch, or in the dinning room or living room isn’t an issue if you don’t mind our two cats. The basement is unfinished: I’m not sure anyone would want to stay down there. And there is the camp-in-the-backyard option as well.
Oh, and I was gently reminded that I have a massive family reunion Memorial Day weekend, so it might be best for me to avoid that weekend in May
They don’t cAll me Dorothy.
Can we put you in a gingham dress though?
I don’t think I have the thighs to pull that off.
Dem calves tho
So if the Neuromancer quote wasn’t a clue, I’m re reading the book..
Mirror Empire is going to have to wait.
The sky above the port was the color of an iPhone with a drained battery.
Be careful now you may cut yourself.
I will never be as cool as Molly.
Sigh
You should rock the surgically-implanted mirrorshades, Van.
Discovered an old New Scientist from 1993, just as I was starting my degree.
The closure of the SSC was covered in that issue. Considering the bullshit generated by the LHC over ending the world you really dodged a bullet on that one.
Of the dates mentioned above, June would be my first choice (completely clear calendar at the moment), followed by May(only one weekend filled so far), then July (1 weekend filled so far)
Now, must brave the cold and get a fuse for my stove
“a fuse for my stove”
That’s only because the hubby over stimulated the stove and blew it.
Gas or electric heat?? (I refuse to take that joke any further)
Well, I plugged in the new fuse and it still doesn’t work. The stove and oven still works, it’s just the plug where I like to plug in my slow cooker that’s stopped, so I won’t be getting a new stove soon. It’s just a little annoying.
And Jan 8 – – happy birthday to Elvis Presley, David Bowie, R. Kelly, and Stephen Hawking!
And Bowie’s giant cock puppet
and his “slow cooker”
CW: Galavant E1 and E2
I’m enjoying it, I suspose I had better invite Lo round for a coffee.
Potential job and/or family schedule conflicts notwithstanding, I plan on attending the KC shindig. Most likely I’ll stay with my sister or a motel in Olathe.
Either way, I do plan on getting you to Tabletop when you are in town…. for Mmmmeetup or othertimes.
Consider us the Sunshine Band!
Well I’m up for KC, whether I can get the time off is another matter.
Hopefully we can lock down a date sooner rather than later.
I need to discuss further but I’m planning on it. Ess you flying or driving?
CW: Walking Dead S1 E1
From my bed in Dallas hotel. Traveling here sick is worse than regular!
I’m on S2 E6 and willing to discuss
Sorry about the weather…
Dammit Ess! Sorry! If it makes you feel “better” we are having ice storms here.
You know, I thought it would be the NSA that created the AI singularity that enslaved humanity. Turns out, it may be a poker player instead:
Still, the MCP started out as a chess program, so maybe TRON was really prescient after all.
So, I shall certainly come to KC if the dates work out this year. But, looking at travel plans, I’m pretty much out of pocket from June 15th through July 13th with a big vacation and shuttling the kiddos to/from summer camp.
But, if that time frame works best for the rest of the group, then go for it. This summer just happens to be a busy one for me, so you guys may finally get to take a break from me 🙂
The weekend of June 27th is booked for us. We are fine with the other weekends, though earlier in June would be better.
One other thing: we are planning some home renovations over the next year. We can definitely host this year, though next year we’ll probably have the basement finished which would give us lots more usable space.
Well, everyone needs to remember that there’ll be a wedding in 2016. . .
meh
woke up at 5am with terrible pain in my ears and throat.
It is gone now but something is not quite right.
You stop that, sir
Ah. Doctor’s office is closed today.
Guess I’m on my own for the weekend.
Morning Pan
So far this morning I used a paperclip to break the seal on a box of paperclips. My life is full of quirks.
KC for the Mmmmetup looks good for me, and I would like to try to make it this year (as I should have enough airline miles to get a free ticket). The rub for me is always that work travel pops up often and last minute. Once a date is set I’ll try to see what I can swing. Only thing out of bounds for me is the weekend of June 6 as that is my anniversary.
I’ve loved the games so far, but my RSI sure hasn’t appreciated it. 🙁
It’s gonna be a button masher for sure.
Yeah. I couldn’t finish the last game because of that. Literally too painful. 🙁
That’s too bad. Arkham City was a fun game, although I liked the first one best.
I agree. The first is my favorite. 🙂
My printer is telling me it needs a new drum. I didn’t think I was beating on it that hard.
Todd Rundgren would approve!
It don’t want to print
It just wants to bang on the drum all day.
Hello, it’s me.
I need someone taller than myself or hubby. I sprayed some cleaner on the ceiling of my washroom and the instructions say to dab it off with a dry cloth.
I may have to improvise and wrap a cloth around a broom.
Off to experiment!
I know it is early to talk about this, but for the KC MMMmmmeetup we really need to go out for BBQ. It’s the best in the country imo. 🙂 The choice is really between KC Joe’s (formerly Oklahoma Joe’s) and Jack Stack. The latter is my favorite and has the best all round BBQ, but the first is a little cheaper and my #2 place.
There’s lots to do and see here. Plus T Cat and I can give you a personal tour of our art museum, if you are interested.
Just food for thought, though I know we are also happy just to hang out, especially in the backyard. Bocce anyone? 😀
mmmmmmm BBQ.
I was going to tentatively propose 6/4-6/8 for the KC MMmmmmmeetup but noting some of the comments…. How does mid-May look for people? Honestly, the chances of tornados are pretty slim. I am excited and have plenty of ideas for both activities and rest times that ditto, Tcat and our friends will have to discuss further.
I’ve already looked up, US Daddy’s day is 6/21.
I couldn’t remember if the big wedding was in 2015 or 2016. I didn’t want KC to outshine the wedding. 😉
There are vineries and of course Boulevard Brewery here that give tours. There’s also one of a kind stuff for history buffs and sports fans.
Sounds good ditto. I agree, I like Jack Stack the best. Ironically I never tried Oklahoma Joes. For cheaper, I really like R.J.’s off Lamar and Johnson Drive, though it’s more of a dinner than a restaurant. As an idea for an event to attend, Renfest runs from Sept. 5th through Oct. 18th, but we’ll have fun no matter what date we set.
My experiment was a partial success. Wrapping a cloth around the broom worked well. However, the cleaner didn’t so I will have to find another way to get the mould stains off my washroom ceiling.
Re. May Date
I can’t do the weekend of May 9th. That’s Mother’s Day weekend anyway so it would be out regardless. Otherwise, at the moment, I’m pretty clear but that may change as time goes on.
Let’s be honest, the dates really depend upon Van as his schedule is the least flexible. Van, what dates from May to July work the best for you?
I agree, the dates depend on you, Van, and Jack.
I can start putting together an agenda once we figure out when things are going to happen. As Cynful pointed out, there’s lots to do here. Based on past experience, we won’t have action packed days. 🙂 Having options is nice though.
I’ll check with Desert Pixie on our available dates this summer.
I’d be interested in a Boulevard Tour.
If we’re in KC, we must do BBQ.
I’m not above camping, but I’d prefer to sleep indoors.
The gaming has been fun at the past few MMMmmmeetups.
Tornado: mid 16th century (denoting a violent thunderstorm of the tropical Atlantic Ocean): perhaps an alteration of Spanish tronada ‘thunderstorm’ (from tronar ‘to thunder’) by association with Spanish tornar ‘to turn.’
We also have some awesome local(ish) steak houses, but that can get $$$ and I know plenty of people are on a budget.
Option for a cookout…. possibly…. I’m thinking a little Local Pig too. But that can be decided way later. Also for consideration Bier Station…. Again, thinking I’m ahead of everyone here.
I’ll need to get back to you on that, need to work it out.
No worries. We have time. 🙂
Breaking Bad spoilers but HOLY SHIT this is amazing
I fear you may find badminton matches a bit too stimulating.
To be obtuse: KC?
Kansas City.
My ex- brotherinlaw, when I mentioned I might be going to Kansas City this year replied:
What do you want to go there for?
I don’t think he appreciated me rolling my eyes at him.
You could say it would be more fun than talking to him. 😉
zing!
My good friend Google says that some fantastic reasons would be: the American Jazz Museum, Boulevard Brewing Company, a tiny thing called the Gateway Arch, Crown Center, Science City at Union Station, Swope Park and a Zoo. Plenty from my perspective.
Um. I think Gateway Arch is St Louis but everything else is right
Yes. My good friend Google is definitely a “close enough” kind of friend when it comes to information. Google isn’t perfect, but you can often get 80% or more correct information to get you started. I’d rather go to Boulevard Brewing than the St. Louis arch anyway.
CP: Change — Churchill
My 7 o’clock flight is currently delayed 1 hour, 15 minutes. This is becoming the norm in Dallas.
Blech
So avoid Dallas when flying to Kansas?
at all cost!
No, it’s a huge airport – good stop-through for long flights. I wouldn’t avoid it.
My issue is not the airport, but the crappy discount airline all my miles/status are with. I’ve got to divorce them, but . . .
I actively avoid Chicago O’Hare. I’ve had more weather delays there than anywhere else.
And as a result, you’re becoming the Norm in Dallas.
If I could breathe I would absolutely belly up to a bar once I get to DFW.
Dallas-Fort Worth was taped before a live studio audience
If the moon creates the tides, then imagine a wave pool on the moon!
I leave you with that thought for your Saturday morning.
Go ACC for getting his maths right, swimming in a pool in the moon was mentioned in Earthlight.
I have his book What If. It’s a pretty cool read. What I didn’t know (until I read the book) was that he is a former NASA scientist, so I’d hope he gets the math right.
Oh silly me. Sorry Van, misread your comment. I was refering to the author of the website as being a NASA scientist, no ACC. Yes, goon on ACC.
Just watched Book of Life. I could have done without the Moulin Rouge style use of contemporary songs in a classical setting. But, as one would expect with Guillermo del Toro producing, it was visually stunning. There was also some descent character growth above and beyond the typical children’s movie stock messages.
I think I may have just done something silly. Me of the tiny bladder just had a large slurpee (or the Mac’s equivalent of one)I’m doing on of our live interviews in 40 minutes. Let’s see if I can manage to not cut the interview short.
We can listen for the sounds of you shuffling in your seat during the interview.
I wonder what else I’llfind in the next couple of weeks that will be a blast from the past.
There is something extra special about being sick on a Saturday night and having to bow out on a date.
🙁
I may go get a burger and a bottle of Jim Beam and curl up in front of Netflix.
That’s called “getting unlucky.” 🙁
Ended up with Chinese(ish) carry out, a bottle of Jack and “Wall Street”.
Currently I am having Tea and biscuits to improve my mood.
Okay, it’s not proper tea. Just a bag of Celestial Seasons raspberry tea and they aren’t proper biscuits. They are homemade peanut butter cookies but I am hoping that it is the spirit of the thing.
Faced with the choice of proper biscuits and peanut butter cookies to improve mood, I would go with the cookies every time. Good choice.
Watched the first 2 episodes of “Sherlock” last night.
It was fun and had really great production value.
CW: Shameless – first episode of the new series.
I wonder if Lip is becoming corrupted by sleeping with the rich college girl.
I would
Pfft! Anything with ovaries would corrupt you.
Thats not entirely almost true
Throwing out your back while putting on your pants is lame.
just sayin’
:-/
Throwing it out as a result of having taken them off ? Priceless.
Getting older, it’s not for pussies.
*snert*
That your knee giving way?
Get off my lawn!
Heading home after seeing Taken 3.
A poor shadow of the original film.
Ok, if I’ve worked it out correctly , I will be off the following weekends:
16th and 17th May
20th and 21st June
11th and 12th July
It’s easier for me to get a week off than 2 weeks off, so if I’m off the weekend I need only need to take a week off so I’m more likely to be able to go.
Your crap joke for a lazy Sunday:
A man goes to see the Rabbi. “Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it. The Rabbi asked, “What’s wrong?” the man replied, “My wife is poisoning me.” The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, “How can that be?” The man then pleads, “I’m telling you, I’m certain she’s poisoning me. What should I do?” The Rabbi then offers, “Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I’ll see what I can find out and I’ll let you know.” A week later, the Rabbi calls the man and says, “I spoke to her on the phone for three hours. You want my advice? The man said, “Yes” and the Rabbi replies, “Take the poison.”
Adding my thoughts to the KC chat:
Any of the three weekends Vanamonde mentioned would work fine for me.
I plan on driving down to KC so that I can play chauffeur, and staying at a hotel.
The three things I would like to do the most during the MMMMMMeetup are, in this order: another tabletop gaming session, KC BBQ, and the personal tour of the art museum. I would be up for a Boulevard tour, too, or just about any other sightseeing. But yeah, definitely want to do more gaming.
RIP Taylor Negron. Cancer is such a fuck.
You may not know who he is, but I assure you youve seen him
Yes, I knew exactly who you meant. Uncool. Funny comedian- -and the pizza guy in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Based on Van’s list.
May 16/17 would work best for me. The June dates would be my second choice. I can’t make that July weekend at all.
Amy, in answer to your question, that’s not actually my profile picture. It’s just the heading graphic on the stats sheet. These are fillable PDF’s that Wizards of the Coast supplies. You can get them here http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/character_sheets
Thank you! I asked because my gaming group is upgrading our game from 4E to 5E, and I’ve been asked to start a new character sheet and wanted a cool picture for it. 🙂
Say hello to you new AI overlord..if you play poker:
I was going to suggest it wasn’t on the list because it’s not funny, but then I read the list and it wasn’t funny.
Taking lessons from Van, eh?
I do attempt to learn something from everyone. Especially the dirty and wizened. 🙂
A: Wiped his butt.
Well I’n trying very hard to laugh.
Some other KC MMMmmmeetup possibilities….
Aug or Sept…?
We could do Aug 8th, Aug 22nd
Or
Sept 5th or Sept 19th weekends.
Again, if I haven’t screwed up, I’m off:
August 15th and 16th
September 5th and 6th
August is very iffy as it gets booked up fast for those with children.
Sept 5 is US Labor Day Weekend.
My next weekend off after that will be in October
10th and 11th
Im with you, Van. What you got, so do I
August and September is out for me too.
August and September are no goes for us.
Come on Broncos damn
Yup
Sorry about the Broncs.
Hey, it’s that guy from the Duel of the Fates Battle Royale with Cheese! :silly:
(watching the Golden Globes)
I think we need a new page. . . .
So heads up, everyone – – I got some excellent BTiLC audio from Ed. If you;d lke to have something BTiLC-related in the episode with him, then I’d advise you to act quickly – or contact me soon. This week.
So’ve been playing on the Experia website and it seems aeroplane companies like train companies really gyp you on the cost of single flight.
Sigh
Planning on a one way trip?
No, it was an idea from the last meetup, maybe if I win the lottery.
Did someone say MMMMmmmmeetup?
Traveling this year is unlikely due to budgetary concerns, but if you all select a time frame, I’ll certainly do my best to comply.
Notably – were I able to finance this adventure, Summer break is more feasible than attempting travel while the kids are in school and I’m leading scouts. Or at least, it gives me better flight options.
Driving 18 hours is obviously impossible as I would be exhausted and can’t be away from the kids that long. Alternatively, I’d have to bring the kids – which would be the least expensive option, but would limit my ability to have adult-only time.
So – my point being – plan this without my input, choose your dates, and I’ll do my best to attend.
October works quite well for me.
I can do October
Well depending on the weekend I can probably as well.
However it took a long time to decide a date last year, and I know I was partly to blame for that for wanting to keep things on the QT, I just hope we can lock a date down sooner this year.
Morning Pan
Today’s spam mail first line is very short: “Please matt sat on”
I never open my spam mail so I never see more than the first line.
That damn Matt going around sitting on people..
I have no major conflicting commitments or big trips planned this year, so I can also roll with whatever date the group picks.
Jack – Yes, I do still have BTiLC thoughts on a piece of paper on my desk. I’ll be sure to get them recorded as soon as I can, hopefully tonight.
At the moment, the October dates Van has suggested meet his schedule are good with the 2 calendars I’m reviewing…
I’d probably be against camping outside in KC in October, but otherwise, that’s possible. .
Going with the crowd :p
People do camp out in mid-October. With the exception of last year, the average is in the mid 40s at night.
Only yesterday did I discover that a PSP emulator exists (PPSSPP) for Android phones. Now I can play D&D Tactics whenever I want. 🙂
My fav 8bit computer emulator games are almost unplayable using the touch screen on my iOS devices. Do you have an external controller for the PSP emulator on Android?
No, PPSSPP puts a ghosted overlay of PSP buttons on the screen. D&D Tactics is a turn based strategy game, so no button mashing required. I have a real PSP for that.
Hershey really took the cocoa out of their chocolate?
RE: Mmmmeeetup 2015, I think the later we go into the Fall, the less likely I’ll be able to budget that AND Jackanny Spring/Summer 2016. Any way we can revisit scheduling the Mmmmeetup for May/June?
Jackanny?
You and DP’s nuptials.
Oh, I understood….
Jackanny?
Tack?
Well I should be able to the days in May and June I mentioned.
The only problem I see with the June dates Van can attend is it is Father’s Day. Since we have so many dads in the group, I’ll let them comment further.
/Shakes Fist at Fate
No problem. I sold my children
My new liver works almost perfectly.
Well it does!
CSO: Chocolate Lime
So after that reply I need to change the bloody record.
‘Jackanny’!!!
Something to scare the kids with.
So a book about Operation Barbarossa was 99p on Kindle store today, I didn’t resist temptation.
So now that you’re a rich man, why don’t you buy a little cottage for two. In the forest we could bask naked in the spring, and in the winter we could make love so filthy that the envious Greek Gods would fall from the heavens to watch us in our glory.
Lo Pan goddamn approved
Everything said, goes for me. The best date listed so far is the one in May. After that, it’s really hit and miss.
Oh, just so you know, I’m not camping. I’ll need the name of a reasonably prices, nice hotel near ditto and TCat
I think I missed the camping meeting.
Ditto mentioned in this comment that camping in his backyard was an option, if anyone was interested. 🙂
May will be fine for us and likely nice weather. I can send you a list of hotels later this week.
Fine Ill fucking camp in the yard. Keep me warm, snoodles
I’m confused. Do you want to camp?
Fuck no. But I will camp.
Just 2 notes on May: 1. Desert Pixie might not be able to make it, due to work. We won’t know her May work status until April.
Our lease is up that month.
Neither of these fasts rules the month out; they just add complications.

Hubby’s grandmother is in the hospital. She’s 98 so it’s not unexpected. However, I do have to take all the books off the guest bed so his parents will have a place to sleep when they come in.
Best wishes to yours and hubby’s family. I hope for the best for her.
We did learn something. Those alert buttons people wear around their necks, the ones with a button you press and someone will talk to you over a speaker. Those only work if you actually press the button.
Daddy, we need a new page, please. All of these comments are breaking my phone.
It’s Amy’s fault.
Dammit, Amy.

We are rushing to get through the rest of Dr. Who following the news that BBC/Netflix contract ends 1/31.
Well this came as a surprise.
Crap joke for a lazy Sunday:

Yeah! And what about the 6-second Unshow?
I had only heard of the Ricky Gervais podcast.

Thanks for all the well wishes. 🙂
Yea! Glad to hear he’s doing better. 🙂

“He says you’re gonna die.”

ditto: I need to delete my backlog of emails on my oldest, catchall email account.
Sigh.

-Spike Jones
You could combine the 2001 and Die Hard experiences:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP8Kah6vXsQ
Wrong choice
Pfft! You have no soul Lo.
Also, it was put into the sequel movies.
http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?MyGodItsFullOfStars
Hardware I think?
Huzzah! I do say

Life goes on:

Your crap joke for the day:

Are we still talking about Jane Fonda?

Hey, TRA (the artist formerly known as UsedHair):
Your wrapped SS gifts are under the tree. Thanks! I look forward to opening them Xmas morning.
Glad they made it. Keep in mind I’m called “asshat” for a reason. They should provide much laughter.

Your crap joke for the day:
Give this a try Lo:

THIS!
So, my DPSS gift arrived today! Thank you to whomever sent it. It went under the tree to be opened on Christmas. 😀
And T Cat pointed out I was a bit unfair: I had neglected to mention DPSS to her. She made it a point for me to remember for next year. 😀
Anaconda!
We are doing a few days of holiday celebrating at my folks and are already enjoying!

Dr. Who Christmas specials was in that place between “okay” and “good”.
One of the better efforts for this Doctor.

For those that don’t know the difference between the fruits:

http://www.openculture.com/2011/12/neil_degrasse_tyson_8_books_every_intelligent_person_should_read.html

You young pup. 😉
I saw “Interstellar” last night. Not what I expected, but I enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed the last “Person of Interest”.
Yup that episode of POI was a corker.
It also had one of the best moral debates I’ve seen about ASIs in recent years.
I hope Interstellar gets the Best Picture nod. Definitely deserving.
Man, I don’t often get sick, but this cough is a motherfucker.
Some great DAI humor regarding Iron Bull sex. 😉

Tamales!
The winter crud has struck our house – today’s the last day of vacation – hack!
We watched TMNT today – not bad! Now CW: Dr. Who S6E1 (have seen this, but not the entire season – rewatching and catching up).
Bunny, this weather is for the birds!
Oh, and we got Firefly: The Game for xmas. Can’t wait to play! Maybe on NYE.
Fun!!!

Be warned that bigotry awaits you.
The voice of cartoon Dexter has died:

CW: The Wire S1E1 remastered
Yes I’m a heathen how did you guess?
At least you didn’t say Buffy!
I don’t recall, Van. Is this your first viewing?
I’ve seen clips, but this was the first time I sat down and watch a whole episode.

Not sure if happening on the North American stores as well:

Since there are US links that’s probably yes.
http://youtu.be/MvgN5gCuLac
Once again, Cynful’s brain is in sync with mine.

I thought I saw some at the candy shop you took us to in Boulder next time you go that direction
Tonight I don’t have a party to go to, so I’ll quietly drink a toast to all of you. In my imagination we’re all ringing in the New Year together at one big party.

Your first coat of 2015!
And what a grand looking coat it is
Happy New Year!

What is up there should be here:
http://filmschoolrejects.com/features/52-most-anticipated-movies-2015.php

This holiday bug has turned into more of a barking deep chested cough for me. UGH!

My lord…

I hope you feel better before Dallas!
I love Planet of the Apes! I haven’t seen the latest, but gonna.

Birdman was ummm interesting.
Some of the punters muttering that it wasn’t a superhero film after it finished was funny though.
I cant wait to see it
I had a similar feeling after I saw ‘Synecdoche, New York’, feeling a bit deflated because I just didn’t think it was amazing.
Oh and if you were tempted by mention of the ‘War and Peace’ adaption:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/warpeace?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_radio_4&ns_source=facebook&ns_linkname=radio_and_music

Wait do you mean SHE was watchable or the show was?
Maybe I just liked the way she shouted my name almost every episode.

Here’s the PBS link:

Glass is probably the highlight episode, imo.
The episodes are Clean, Time, Cold, Light, Sound, and Glass. Though iirc they didn’t air in that order.
According to this site, the BBC should be showing it in your neck of the woods, Van.

I’llkeep an eye out it.
Yet, it’s so obvious after reading your post.
Prepare yourself for more ScarJo boobs…
http://comicbook.com/2015/01/05/scarlett-johansson-signs-on-for-ghost-in-the-shell/

Van, I finished the book you gave me for Christmas. I quite enjoyed it.

Looking forward to reading that one. I really enjoyed the first, though it was a bit difficult to get into.
Van, did you tune in?
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/broadchurch-2-cast-not-allowed-to-watch-episodes-says-arthur-darvill-9957852.html
Nope, too much other stuff to watch.
Witcher 3 cover looks nice. 🙂
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/look-witcher-3-gets-gorgeous-steelbook-covers/1100-6424457/
Well, looks like the Dr. will definitely continue:
http://insidetv.ew.com/2015/01/05/doctor-who-ratings-2/

Ummm, not really enough options in the UK to make it a worth while purchase.
Basically Netflix and BBC iplayer.
I did buy one but hardly use it.
But
You can cast from your PC. Do you get US websites there; like abc.com?
Nope, I’ve tried casting from my PC but I don’t think my laptop has enough oomph (videos tend to pause and play music from Spotify stutters).

That sucks, DP. Are you new to the team? Or is it a total newly formed unit?

In honor of Kenny Loggins’ (the King of 80’s soundtracks) birthday let’s start a fun and irrelevant list.

I’m Alright – Motorhead
Footloose – Sleater Kinney
Danger Zone – Archer
Footloose – Westoe Brass Band

Return to Pooh Corner – Five Finger Death Punch

Also, hubby and I saw this movie was on NetFlix. We weren’t interested enough to actually watch it but I find it interesting how far he’s fallen. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2467046/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_8

In other news, giraffes driving go-karts stole 100 Dixie Cups of grape Kool-Aid. No popsicle sticks were harmed during the heist. Now for the weather.
My new discovery today:
http://dierotenpunkte.com/
I’m in for KC!
Turns out, it may be a poker player instead:
http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/computing/software/computers-conquer-texas-holdem-poker-for-first-time
Still, the MCP started out as a chess program, so maybe TRON was really prescient after all.
Well, everyone needs to remember that there’ll be a wedding in 2016. . .
You know, I was just thinking of that… 🙂

I want to believe…um.
Next thing you know The Learning Channel will vow to air actual educational material.
I for one LOVED the trolling by Discovery here. The fact that people believed this nonsense makes it all the more enjoyable.

Hmmm….

Ok how the hell is the Maggie Grace from Taken 3 the same Maggie Grace from Lost?
She is Liam Neeson’s daughter, isn’t she?
Correct…
We are having people over for gaming tomorrow. As per usual, I think I went a little overboard on the libation purchase yesterday.

Still, if people are interested–and I know not everyone is into beer like Ralph–we should book a Boulevard tour as soon as possible.
http://www.boulevard.com/brewery/brewery-tours/
Scattered thoughts:

A swimming pool on the moon sounds rather cool:
https://what-if.xkcd.com/124/

‘We are undergoing temporary maintenace’ is rather ironic considering my first statement.
I’ve checked with our friends and the May and July dates work best for them. Jack and Ditto? Your Thoughts?
July 11 and 12 is the best for Jack and Me.
but we give it our best, even if Jack is the only one of the two of us who can make it.
