Almost Unshowed it but decided at the last minute to piece together a full-length Show Note.

Let there be deadpan.
And it was good.
Andrea speaking spanish…swoooooooooooon!
Looks like my birthday will prove a happy one for all Deadpan.
The (relatively) recent infatuation with ultra skinny women that leads to calling that girl fat has me thoroughly confused. Does no one appreciate shapely bodies any more?
– gets off soap box –
Hey Deadpan.
I’m in zombie mode this morning.
TEB is after brains…eeeeeek!
You’ve lost Usehair on the girl, who was calling who fat?
+me
Since I have no brain this morning, do you think others would help?
TEB – I help!
One plus one is not five.
“Hey, I don’t know if the billions will survive,
but I’ll believe in god when one and one are five.” – Bad Religion
iTunes Ping is rather useless.
Just stating the obvious.
Yeah Scry. Everybody knows one and one are eleven 🙂
I have to agree NS, another case of hype and not living up to expectations.
Is it better to hook brains up in serial or parallel ?
what where the expectation for Ping. I just don’t understand the point but than again i don’t even have facebook
Van: Trail of thought that lead to the “fat girl” tirade =
Original Post from Mr. From Texas:
>Curse you, Wil Wheaton!!!
Followed by post from NS:
>Following the trail of linkages from WW’s tumblr leads to idjits on reddit calling the girl “fat”.
>WTF? Seriously? Bah. Humans.
Thus, my frustration at people calling someone that isn’t anorexic “fat”. The girl in the picture wasn’t fat. And because (supposedly) popular opinion is that skinny = good looks, I have to deal with umpteen television shows / movies that have really skinny women with no figure whatsoever in “sexy” roles. Pthpthpthpth.
Curves are good..
reaper – Ping is actually on the new i-tunes update. I haven’t tried it yet and may not based on comments here.
As someone who (i think) is around the same size as the girl in the pic, I’ve never considered myself fat.
/goes into gallant mode
Well judging from the photos of you TEB, you are obviously not fat.
awwwww
As sweet as that was, I wasn’t fishing. I was standing up for the other girl.
*hugs Vanamonde*
I agree yeah curves
When I updated iTunes I saw ping there and thought “can i hide this thing”
other than ping i do like the look of iTunes 10
I also kinda like the new iPod Nano’s. I loved my 2nd gen shuffle but wished it had a screen so as long as it isn’t to small it just might be time to upgrade. I still have a 1st gen nano and I lost my shuffle
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/tech-myths/5-myths-about-google.htm
Multiple webpages to display ONE story…ugh.
Morning, DP.
Is this dude in Gainesville really gonna burn the Quran? What the hell is wrong with people?
Funny thing EssBee. Hubby and I were talking about that news article. This preacher is in a small town and has a congregation of around 50 people. We blame the media for creating the problem more than the preacher. With such a tiny base, had the media not grabbed the story and blown it up around the world, nobody would have really known and the world would not be as angry.
(hopefully I’ve worded it so that you understand I not pro this preacher but anti media)
The government said he shouldn’t burn the book because it would endanger troops. However, if the media had not grabbed the story other countries would not have even known what was going on and there would be no worry.
I read ya, Bunny.
True fact: Gainesville currently has it’s first ever openly gay mayor.
Not connected, just true.
CP: Can’t Get High — Widespread Panic
CP: Turn Your Love — Jack Johnson
I’d like to present myself as evidence that “fat” girls are quite capable of being sexy.
dammit
Speaking of gay…
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/09/08/ap/entertainment/main6844828.shtml
I find my Goddess very sexy
Cj = sexy, sexy, sexy
That article makes me angry and incredulous. And I wish I lived in Fort Gay.
You could petition that city up north to change from “Collins” to “Gay”. Then you could move there.
Good idea, Lo, but no thanks. I lived there for 2 1/2 years during grad school, and while it was fun enough, they really should change “Collins” to “Wonderbread.” Nor for me.
I could move to Gay street in Longmont, though!
I know. I did too! Did you know it has the highest number of sex offenders per capita in the United States? Fun fact!
My aunt lives on Gay!
-r, +t
It does?? I am SO not surprised about that. I lived there during the Matthew Shepard murder and it’s aftermath, including one of the CSU frats including an effigy on their homecoming float mocking his death. *shudder*
It also has the most restaurants per capita.
Also, I really loved 99% of CSU. And the people I hung with in Ft. Collins.
Frats are fun. Always living up to their own image.
I liked CSU too. Its no CU tho 😉
Don’t EVEN get me started on Boulder.
Go RAMS.
CU and Boulder, thankfully, arent one in the same. Least not while I lived and went to school there. Course my heyday there was 1994 – 2003. And I can tell you from 2000 on it changed changed changed. Ugh. Used to be so sweet….
Also Go Buffs.
True dat, Lo.
Except the Buffs part.
Go Lo.
My cat was bugging me to go outside. I took her out . It’s raining. She wasn’t impressed. (she’s an indoor cat so only goes out if I carry her)
I just watched Ultraviolet (the movie).
For some reason it reminded me of Flash Gordon.
I dug Ultraviolet, Nomad. Twas kinda fun!
I also enjoyed it!! Hey! Maybe we can actually start a coherent conversation here for once…
Which leads to the question. Was the movie itself fun, or the girl in the skin tight outfit? Hubby voted for the girl.
How’s the family, Nomad?
Bunny, girl.
Girl with swords needs no plot behind her.
There was KIND OF a plot.
And I was KIND of behind her… knowwhatimean?
I’m a great believer in loose clothes on women can be sexy…you don’t need to poke my eye out with a well defined boob.
I can think if better things to do with a well defined boob than poking someone’s eye out
“well defined boob”
Breakfast and Deadpan, oh how I’ve missed having these things together. I’m enjoying this!
“boob”
Umm, what?
http://www.genpets.com/index.php
Is it me, or does anyone else find those GenPets creepy?
LOL, Van.
I can think of worse things to be poked in the eye with.
Bunny is poking someone eye out a possible side affect of any of those things?
Bunny’s too short to poke anybody’s eye out with her breast,
*raises hand*
yes creepy very creepy
For those who have a WII (I don’t), here’s a WiiMote I can get into
http://dvice.com/archives/2010/09/sonic-screwdriv.php
Hey Lo, you still aren’t on fire are you?
Speaking of fires, I find the planned Quran burning as extremely ignorant and in poor taste. All book burners basically put themselves in the same category as the Nazis and peasants from the Middle Ages. That said, I think these type of grotesque side shows are forms of protected free speech. Even as much as flag, Bible, Quran, Torah etc. burning turns my stomach, I think the United States is a better place for allowing it to happen, a free expression of ideas, good, bad, with merit and without. Through free discussion we learn. Okay, does someone need a soap box? I’m all done with mine.
I agree with you, Rhett. But Gainesville dude, COME ON.
Bunny, if I hadn’t already finished lego starwars for the Wii I would considering getting that Wiimote just for the fun of using it.
Rhett, I fully support his right to free expression, I just don’t stand behind the media over hyping it and blowing it out of proportion.
Ok, I’m done with this subject too.
I didnt start it. No Im SE of it. Just barely tho.
Jesus save me from your followers…. yes I know thats a broad statement but come on. If tired of people acting like fucking morons in the “name of teh Lord”. Whats awesome is THATS what “Thou shalt not take the Lords name in vain” is all about. Its not saying “Godddamn”. Its all about doing stupid ignorant stuff and backing it up by saying “this is what god wants”. Funny how that commandments meaning has been skewed over the years.
OK, for those of you that Facebook – there’s this 15 Album Meme going around. After thoughtful consideration, I believe it would be more fun to share with all of you – my crazy musical tastes.. than it would be to post it there… although I did. So.. Here goes…
That fire is brutal. 135 homes totally gone, and so far 6330 acres burned up. We’re close-ish to it. Sly B works at CU and says her office smells like smoke.
Tell Sly B that smell is just me….
We have probably even done this before on the :pan: but.. whatever and some of you have been tagged on Facebook:

14. AC/DC – Who Made Who
15. Ratt – Out of the Cellar
Dammit, Bunny stole my point. Redneck pastor. Congregation of 50. Media rabble-rousing, etc.
I always find it interesting to see measured philosophical religious debate from a 3000-year-old Chinese god.
Cj, I so love that Ratt is on your list.
I’ll do mine in a bit – handling a crisis and should not be here.
My brain is much. Nothing sticks in there for very long.

14. As Nasty as the Wanna Be – 2 Live Crew
15. VS. – Pearl Jam
much = mush
My brother and his fiance have also mentioned the smoke and stuff going on out by them. I am sad to hear of people losing their homes 🙁
It’s why I vote atheist.
Sorcerer, Jack. Im a simple sorcerer.
Ching Dai is my god.
EssBee: Agreed!
TEB: Agreed!
Lo Pan: Pearl Jam? ??? Just kidding. 🙂
EssBee – The family is doing pretty good. School’s back on and we’re 31 weeks pregnant… which if you’ve ever been around a very pregnant woman, then you know that means walking on eggshells and breaking most of them. Oops! =)
I love Fishbone.
And I liked what Sly B said about the smoke reminding her of old times. It was sweet.
Yes good album pics by CJ and Lo Pan. 🙂 I got tagged by the Six String Bliss guys and created one last week. I go grab it from Facebook and repost it here. A moment.
Hey, “VS” was the last great album of that scene back in 1993. Il still holds up immensely. So fuck you, Rhett. 😀
Grab it, Rhett. Grab it like you want it.
Why didn’t the media pick up on MY pastor’s sermon last Sunday?
http://tinyurl.com/33d52h3
Even Lo Pan would have approved.
EssBee – They played a free show on 16th Street a couple months ago and theyre still wonderful. Rocky George is playing guitar with em now. Amazing.
1) When discussing this topic, as Christians, he would remind us (remember, I’m paraphrasing) DON’T BE A DOUCHE
Thats perfect. Reading that, J0e, doth give me hope. Its also nice to be reminded y’all arent all crazy defectoids 🙂

13. The Black Keys – Magic Potion
14. Tracy Bonham – The Burdens of Being Upright
15. The Kills – No Wow
Yeah.
Here’s my conundrum –
What drives me the most crazy about the extremists is the way they are always calling others out as being bad and evil or “not Christian enough” … but if I speak out about these folks, if I start calling them out for not believing as I do … doesn’t that make me JUST LIKE THEM?
ack. I must go duct tape my head to keep it from exploding.

Thanks, Nomad. She is super sweet and swoony.
Haha about the wifey.
Ah! Tori! How could I have forgotten Little Earthquakes? That should totally be … er… 12.
Yeah.
Ooh, I like Live too.
Back to Ultraviolet for a moment, yes, definitely fun. I liked the creativity in the flaming sword fight, but was a bit miffed that they decided to chop the scenes up so badly. A simpler sequence would have been way more epic.
Other than that, like Flash, I was getting annoyed with how bad it all was for the first few minutes until I relaxed and just decided to enjoy the ride. After that, it was all flashbang goodness.
Though it reminds me, does Mila do -any- movies now without having her face smoothed out in aftereffects? She practically glows here and she really did glow in the last Resident Evil movie I saw.
(Resident Evil, Evil Dead) Mila vs. The Chin!

Wow, next time I plan to call in a voice mail, remind me to speak up. WTF.. ? I can’t hear what I’m saying at all. Could any of you understand that at all?
I’m getting close to hitting on you this morning, Cj, but I heard you fine and thought to myself how adorable your voice is while I was driving in to work today.
J0e – yeah you do fall into that. Unfortunately thats the nature of the beast. I really feel its the message behind the speaking out that differentiates it. If youre not backed by ignorance then you have a right to speak out yourself.
OMFG Ruby Vroom…. I could listen to Soul Coughing / M. Doughty any time of any day.
That justa J0e knows what he’s talking about. I don’t recall any mention of Jesus using the term, “asshat”.
Okay here’s the list:
1. This Godless Endeavor – Nevermore

15. Mezzanine – Massive Attack
Mock away. LOL
I’m surprised to see the Grateful Dead on EssBee’s list. . . Not a Deadhead myself, but that is an excellent album.
LP: Ministry and Faith No More are great calls. I think “VS.” was also PJ’s last really good album, although “Ten” will always be my fave of theirs.
Lots of good 90s memories in Nomad’s list.
Speaking of: I think the Cardigans were pretty quickly dismissed as disposable pop, but I thought they had some surprises. Especially “It’s War”.
I can definitely relate with the more geeze-ahem-classic rock section of J0e’s list. (that’s not an age crack; it’s my music too)
Lots of good choices all around! Rhett tagged me with this on FB, but I never responded. I’ll post something here in a few.
Jack, I’m a big deadhead. Toured a bit even during my wildest days.
Speaking of GD, Sly B and I just bought two track packs for Rock Band and rock our asses off. We have about 9 Dead songs.
Post test.
WordPress doesn’t seem to like me to copy and paste from Facebook. I’ll have to try something else.
Wow even pasting from notepad doesn’t work. LOL
Post Toasties
Rhett, you are free! We’ll have some crossover too.
Oh my last post is awaiting moderation. I let Jack fix it.
Thanks Jack!

Sorry to go all e.e. cummings, but I wrote it up quickly in WP, without capitalization.
“Enough talk about me
Let’s talk about you
What do you think of me
What do you think of me, me, me”
-L7
public enemy – fear of a black planet
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Enough talk about me
Let’s talk about you
What do you think of me
What do you think of me, me, me”
-L7
THISSSS!!!1!!!11!11!!11
I almost put AC/DC – Back in Black on my list but I didn’t follow the rules and I thought about it a moment and opted for Who Made Who…
Also, I think if I’d thought of it sooner, Poe’s Hello album would have bumped something…
If I’m being honest – and I always am 😉 the album I’ve probably played in it’s entirety more than any other is Poe – Hello….
What I find as inspired choices from everyone else’s list.
CJ: The Cure – Japanese Whispers, ZZ Top – AfterBurner, Ratt – Out of the Cellar
Lo Pan: Angel Dust – Faith No More, Master of Puppets – Matallica, Psalm 69 – Ministry, Rust in Peace – Megadeth

JOe: Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon, The Beatles – White Album, Alan Parsons Project – Turn of a friendly card, Queen – Night at the Opera
Jack: Pretty much the whole damn list. LOL Although I am not familiar with “A Tribe Called Quest”, or “Elliot Smith.”
Do you like Nevermore, Rhett? I cants tell….. wakkas wakkas
I believe that A Tribe Called Quest is where Jack got my AKA, Rhettro. You’d better get up to speed!
Betta Swig up on a forty cause I’m feelin thirsty
Yes Lo, I do. Do you like Rise Against? LOL
EssBee, yes I do. It’s about time I expanded my musical landscape.
Why yes I do, Rhett. Except “Swing Life Away” and half the songs off of “Appeal to Reason”. Shits whack.
Rhett, I think you’d dig Elliott Smith. That guy was a damn genius with minor chords.
He did cut a good song. Awful sharp, that guy.
Well I have my four genres that I listen to.
Metal. duh
Progressive Rock.
Industrial
and Folk.
It’s unusual for me to drift very far from those formulas, although I do like Shania Twain and even some Emenem.
I think and/or feel like I should get off my duff and take a shower.
Yet…. I’m just sitting here staring at a blank screen wondering what to write.
brain blockage, I haz it.
1. Counter Parts – Rush
2. To High to Die – Meat Puppets
3. Super Star Car wash – Goo Goo Dolls
4. Boy Named Goo – Goo Goo Dolls
5. Dizzy Up the Girl – Goo Goo Dolls
6. Who Made Who – AC/DC

11. Dirt – Alice in Chains
12.Ten – Pearl Jam
13. V.S. – Pear Jam
14. Youthanasia – Megadeath
15 The Wall – Pink Floyd
Note: Megadeth inspired my handle and 3 months ago The Wall would not be on this list.
Nice list Reap.
You metal boys remind me of my brother. Except your all pretty decent fellas.
Better to be a decent fella than a defecate smella, or something.
I have an awesome tea cup and wonderful loose green tea from Sly B. But the tea leaves end up all floaty in my cup. I hate that!
Permanent Vacation by Aerosmith always reminds me of playing games on the SNES (mostly X-Men) and the Sega CD. It was also one of the last tapes I ever bought.
Why does AC/DC’s Who Made Who end with “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)” and there concretes for that matter. We just finished the rocking.
When driving and I have nothing to listen to I start singing songs from Rush’s counterparts it was the first CD I bough and never left my CD changer till I ripped it to put on my first MP3 player
EssBee, I hate that too, you might want to try this:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/kitchen/96bb/
I have read a number of reviews and have come close to getting one.
Oooh, nice. I have the newest TG catalog at home. We were eyeing the Dr. Who cell phone charms.
As the DP resident old fart, my 15 albums would be:
War of the Worlds – Jeff Wayne (+various actors and Justin Hayward)
The Black Hole Soundtrack – John Barry
Pulp Fiction Soundtrack – various
Painted Signs – Eric Bibb
Castles and Old Kings – Johnny Dickinson
The Last Man on Earth – Loudon Wainwright III
Heartbeat City – The Cars
Far from Silent – Martyn Joseph
Dark Gift of Time – Christine Collister
Out of the Blue – ELO
Parallel Lines – Blondie
American Pie – Don Mclean
Tom Lehrer in Concert – Tom Lehrer
Tubular Bells – Mike Oldfield
Prodigal Son – Martin Simpson
The Crow sdtk!
Tubular Bells!
(actually, I might have added Oldfield’s “Songs of Distant Earth”)
————————————
EssBee, reaper: I would not give that microwave teapot a high rating. I think the 2nd trip through the dishwasher killed mine.
Parallel Lines – Blondie *swoooon*
EssBee, I just got my TG catalog yesterday. I love seeing the look on my wife and kids faces when they see the “bacon favored” section
Anything that cannot survive the dishwasher (besides my knives) cannot survive me.
Van, love ELO!!
And my comment before the last one includes . . . ahem . . . marital items.
cough
Oh I do like The Cars, ELO and Blondie.
guess I’ll stick with my current teapot:
http://tinyurl.com/3yd4djp
I normally just wipe it down thought.
We just have an Armstrong dishwasher AKA me.
Essbee: I use disposable tea bags. You can get them at most descent coffee/tea stores. If the conrainment area for the tea leaves is small enough, I save money by making my own disposable tea bags by putting the leaves in a coffee filter and scrunching it up. This doesn’t work well if the area is too big as the makeshift bag simply opens up in the hot water.
Van, I don’t think you’re far off of my age.
Boris Wimp was one of my favourite ELO songs
hehe no “i” is team?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacohaasbroek/4953310961/
take that!
I really didn’t get into buying music in a big way till about 1999 when I started going to concerts, a late bloomer on that one.
“I have an awesome tea cup and wonderful loose green tea from Sly B. But the tea leaves end up all floaty in my cup. I hate that!”
Essbee – when I first read that, I thought you were quoting song lyrics.
I’m shuddering at the thought of non disposable teabags…
I’m shuddering at the thought that youve all been talking tea this whole time…
Re: song list
As I pondered my list, I realized that it is so dated because it comes from a time in my life when I would actually put on a cd (or yes in fact, an ALBUM) and listen to it from start to finish.
It seems that at some undefined point in my life, I stopped doing that. I still listened to lots of music but it became Radio Stations, MTV and then playlists.
If the meme had been for “list 15 artist” off the top of my head or 15 songs that will always be important … you would have had a much different (and probably much more contemporary) list from me.
LOL. Van, we do have some cloth tea bags that are washable. They are kinda blechy. I do have some paper tea bags at home, UH. I think the brand is TEA SACK, which always makes me giggle.
All this tea talk, now I need a cup. I see lemon ginger tea in my immediate future.
… and welcome to TEA TALK with The DEADPAN!

Green tea tips
Earl Grey
Rooibos
A good chai
White
Rooiboiz ?
Changed my mind. Went for a cinnamon spice instead.
I love whiskey.
Am now curled up on the couch with a warm cup of tea, a kitty on my lap and a book ready to be read.
CR: Ark -Stephen Baxter
Rooibos is really good. It tastes like dirt.
It totally does, Jack! Like earth.
Yuk! Why I don’t like mushrooms.
My teabags are non-disposable.
I think I finally understand what FOX News means by the Arizona tea party.
My little brother posted this on Facebook – not sure if you’ve all seen it already. It’s just a timelapsed recording of the CO Fire:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfXIqbfehxs&feature=youtu.be
I just bought some decaf chai black tea for before bedtime.
I saw decaf Earl Grey, but that just didn’t make any sense to me at all.

I’m not a big fan of Chia. I tasted like pepper to me.
Yup, I found that duster very cute 😉
reaper tastes of pepper, it seems

Wendy Pepper?
Woah.
She needs to eat a fucking burger or something.

11. Chess – Musical (the original version with Murry Head)
12. Billy Joel – Songs in the Attic
13. The Who – Tommy
14. Beethoven – 9th Symphony
15. PDQ Bach – The Worst of PDQ Bach
My main staples growing up were Rush, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and the Beatles. But I listen to and enjoy everything except for twangy country, rap, and death metal.
Nice list, UH. I’m with ya on Rush, PF, JT, and the Beatles. The other things I grew up listening to with dad via 8 track in his great Jeep was 1) Steve Miller Band and 2) The Mamas and The Papas. I love both bands to this day.
I agree with EssBee and Lo Pan: Woah and needs a burger.
Beethoven – 9th Symphony = awesome
I prefer the 6th personally
One night in UH makes a hard man humble…
So, my daughter gets a fortune cookie fortune that said, “You will be involved in many humanitarian projects.”
I ask her to read it to me and she says, “You will be involved in many humani… projects.”
She’s 6.
First grade.
My daughter can read! I am so flippin’ proud right now!
“involved” and “projects” are NOT easy words for a 1st grader!
In awe of my daughter right now.
“hard man humble”
cough
Woah #2
200
Awesome, Cj. I’m not sure I could read that fortune!
In a way… hard men should really…
I can’t do it… I can’t say it!
:halo:
Look at a you peeps! I go and waste a whole day away at work and I come back to find over 200 comments and we’re not even through the first day!
Hmm, 15 albums. This will be tricky as, like Justa Joe, I seem to have become more playlist oriented rather than listening to straight albums anymore. So, most of my “album” days go back to being able to only play one tape, record, or CD at a time. But still, in no particular order:
1. Genesis – Invisible Touch
2. James Horner – Star Trek II Score
3. John Williams – The Empire Strikes Back
4. Yanni – Live at the Acropolis
5. Weird Al Yankovic – Dare to be Stupid
6. Enya – Watermark
7. Oingo Boingo – Dead Man’s Party
8. James Horner – Krull
9. Tears for Fears – Songs from the Big Chair
10. Howard Jones – Dream Into Action
11. The original musical recording from Chess
12. Danny Elfman – The Nightmare Before Christmas
13. Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard – Gladiator
14. Paul Simon – Graceland
15. The Cars – Hearbeat City
Man, I am weird….
And another shout out to “Chess”!
Ed, that list is very “you”.
My “album days” self wants to party with Ed’s “album days” self.
BTW – extra “music” geek cred to UsedHair for
“15. PDQ Bach – The Worst of PDQ Bach”
… oh, and Ms. Pepper?
While I’d be happy to take her to get that burger … I find her just fine the way she is. 8o
I never listen to twangy death metal.
I have very vivid memories attached to certain albums. Some are good memories and some are not but they will always be with me
1. New Order- low life
2. Therapy? – nurse
3. Pink Floyd- the wall
4. Madonna – like a virgin

13. naked raygun – throb throb
14. joy division – unknown pleasures

Do I have 2 stop at 15?
16. Nine inch nails – pretty hate machine
17. Violent femmes – violent femmes
18. My life with the thrill kill kult – I see good spirits I see bad spirits
19. Nirvana – nevermind
20. Coil – how to destroy angels
21. Michael Jackson – thriller
22. Pj Harvey – rid of me
23. Jesus lizard – Jesus lizard
24. Sonic youth – evol
25. Pixies – doolittle
Oooh, Violent Femmes. Oooh, Pixies.
I’m fixated on this subject of memories- after I left work I kept thinking about albums.
please forgive me a non focused flow of thoughts here:
I know that wasn’t the point really of the 15 albums.. well it sort of is. If I think of 1 album it becomes a never ending flow of memories and other albums.
I just read a book from a woman who held intense memories of moments in her life all tied to food.
Hugh and I were discussing this, we both grew up in families where dinner time was very important. And so there are also these kind of memories I have also tied to food and the dinner table.
It was the only time my family set aside as talking time. So in my youth food actually gives me negative memories. Later in life after I got clean and I actually cared about eating again, i realized I LOVED cooking so in my later life I have many happy memories of meals and foods Hugh and I have shared.
But even more than food there is also this intense memory flow that comes from music with both of us. I can think of any major point in my life and tie it to an album. Or even insignificant points in my life but there was an album I was listening to non stop 1 summer.
So I pulled myself out of the past and the crazy memory association I can get into with albums in my past
and I want to do 15 more recent albums that I will remember forever
then I gotta make some dinner and wake Hugh up 🙂
1. Airborne Toxic Event – Airborne Toxic Event
2. Brand New – The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
3. The kills – midnight Boom
4. Black Keys – brothers
5. the xx – xx
6. she wants revenge – she wants revenge
7. K-OS – Atlantis Hymns for disco
8. Kanye West – college dropout
9. sleigh bells – treats
10. ratatat – lp4
11. miike snow – miike snow
12. Franz Ferdinand – tonight
13. Beastie boys – the mix up
14. Placebo – meds
15. breed 77 – in my blood
So make Hugh give us his 15 albums.
My 15 makes me feel really young in comparison. I wonder if Amy’s 15 would help ameliorate that?
I got my first radio when I was 15 or 16 and bought my first CD player when I was 18. Live, Sarah M, and Enigma were my first three albums, my first CDs.
I remember when the girls in my (maybe?) 4th grade class were singing “Walk Like An Egyptian” during recess. I thought it was a song about Moses. I didn’t know better for many many (many) years.
Oh. Good…
10. Say Anything – is a real boy = “some are not but they will always be with me”
I watch my yellow cat invade my red cat in the yard.
Good times.
No more promises
I have made them before and broken them
Give me the go ahead
And I’ll undress myself for you if you’re at all interested
I’m growing legs
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
I’m growing legs
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
Crawl inside her
I am the
Hey!
Oh, I know your pain (Oh, I feel you baby)
You like I scared plagued by the flies up in your brain
I’m creeping up your veins
Are you smart enough and small enough to play this game?
I’m growing legs
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
I’m growing legs
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
Crawl inside her
I’m the
Oh!
Doo doo doo doo doo
I better watch my back around you
You’ve got the moves, the shoes, the ‘do, you’ve got me
O ho no no no
I want you to know I want to
You’ve got those tired eyes all the time
You’ve got those tired eyes all the time
You’ve got those tired eyes all the time
Yeah, you need someone to bring you to bed
Woah
I’m growing legs (I want you, you know I want to)
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
I’m growing legs (I want you, you know I want to)
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
I’m the spider
Yeah!
Fuck shit up!
I am too afraid to like you
I can’t find a word to speak
If I could I’d talk so good that you would be with me
I am cold, too cool to call you
Far too stoned to leave my bed
I’ll write this song to win your kiss but stay asleep instead
Baby girl i’m a blur
I spoiled stunted sickened her
God and death are none of my concern
I’m no philosopher
Deep in your heart stitched the key
And only one can set me free
From the beast where i dwell
And let the saints all burn in …
So take what you want from me
Hey yeah
And take all i’ve got from me
Hey yeah
You’re with me all the time
The drugs can have my mind love
You own the rest you’ll find
And you’re with me all the time
On the roof burning black
The city smoked from the attack
But on the roof we love the beast to death
The sweat and whiskey breath
So take what you want from me
Hey yeah
And take all i’ve got from me
Hey yeah
You’re with me all the time
The drugs can have my mind love
You own the rest you’ll find
And you’re with me all the time
We fall right down we get back up again
That?s how we be you and me
I would not crowd i would not smother you
I’d let you breathe over me
Hey hey hey hey
We’re on a sinking ship we’re escaping it
We’re on a sinking ship we’re escaping it
We’re on a sinking ship we’re escaping it
We’re on a sinking ship we’re escaping it
You’re with me all the time
You’re with me all the time
With me all the time
You’re with me all the time
No matter where i go youre on my mind
I’ll always stumble home and pray i’ll find
So with your flamethrower eyes and jilted smile
So you can soothe my wounds and drain my bile
No matter where i go you?re on my mind
I’ll always stumble home and pray i’ll find
So with your flamethrower eyes and jilted smile
So you can soothe my wounds and drain my bile
Oh its good stuff…..good stuff… yes fuck shit up. Lord yes. Doesnt hurt at all
I know you think that I shouldn’t still love you,
Or tell you that.
But if I didn’t say it, well I’d still have felt it
where’s the sense in that?
I promise I’m not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
I know I left too much mess and
destruction to come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can’t talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of “it’s over”
then I’m sure that that makes sense
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
And when we meet
Which I’m sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I’ll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I’ve moved on….
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
And I say what the fuck does it matter what the truth is
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA fuck everything
Ima stop when Im ahead…. just in case there is confusion…
Theres something that i cant quite explain
i’m so in love with you
you’ll never take that away
and if i said a hundred times before
expect a thousand more
you never take that away
well expect me to be
calling you to see
if you’re ok when i’m not around
asking if you love me
i love the way you make it sound
calling you to see
do i try too hard to make you smile
to make a smile
well i will keep calling you to see
if you’re sleepin are you dreamin and
if you’re dreamin are you dreamin of me
i cant believe
you actually picked…me
i thought that the world had lost its sway
(its so hard sometimes)
then i fell in love with you
(then came you)
and you took that away
(its not so difficult, the world is not so difficult)
you take away the old
show me the new
and i feel like i can fly
when i stand next to you
so what if I’m on this phone
a hundred miles from home
i take the words you gave
and send them back to you
i only want to see
if you’re ok when i’m not around
asking if you love me
i love the way you make it sound
calling you to see
do i try too hard to make you smile
to make a smile
i will keep calling you to see
if you’re sleepin are you dreamin and
if you’re dreamin are you dreamin of me
i cant believe
you actually picked…me
well i will keep calling you to see
if you’re sleepin are you dreamin and
if you’re dreamin are you dreamin of me
i cant believe
you actually picked…me
i will keep calling you to see
if you’re sleepin are you dreamin and
if you’re dreamin are you dreamin of me
i cant believe
you actually picked…me
Uh. Lo Pan just quoted Dido. Paradigm Shift!
Maybe this’ll help:
Don’t tell me the reason that you’re calling
Is to see if I’m alright since you’ve been gone
Cuz I know you and I know why we’re talking
You’re wanting me to say I’m barely hanging on
Well maybe that was true
For a night or two
But now I’ve got better thing to do
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same
As I did yesterday
I don’t need to waste my time
Crying over you
I’ve got better things to do
Maybe when I don’t have so much going
Or quite so many irons in the fire
I’ll take the time to miss you like you’re hoping
But now I can’t put forth the effort it requires
Well I’d love to talk to you but then I’d miss Donahue
That’s right I’ve got better things to do
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same
As I did yesterday
I don’t need to waste my time
Crying over you
I’ve got better things to do
Check the air in my tires
Straighten my stereo wires
Count the stars in the sky
Or just get on with my life
I don’t need to waste my time
Crying over you
I’ve got better things to do
I’ve got better things to do yeah
nice
I know you think that I shouldn’t still love you,
Or tell you that.
But if I didn’t say it, well I’d still have felt it
where’s the sense in that?
I promise I’m not trying to make your life harder

I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
36 minutes to weekend.
And counting.
I must’ve dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They’re moving into the street
Now did you read the news today
They say the danger’s gone away
But I can see the fire’s still alight
There burning into the night
There’s too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can’t you see this is a land of confusion?
Well this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in
Ooh, Superman where are you now
When everything’s gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour
This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there’s not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in
I remember long ago when the sun was shining
Yes, and the stars were bright all through the night
And the sound of your laughter as I held you tight, so long ago
I won’t be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We’re not just making promises
That we know, we’ll never keep
Too many men, there’s too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can’t you see, this is a land of confusion?
Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for
This is the world we live in
This is the world we live in
And these are the names we’re given
Stand up and let’s start showing
Just where our lives are going to
Pull out the stop plugs, drain all the waste
Who needs it anyway
Fill all the big holes, leave no trace
No sign of yesterday
I wash all the dishes and I clean up my place
No sign of yesterday
I stare at the photographs of your dark face
No sign of yesterday
Out in the yard was such a lovely place
It’s where we used to play
Inside, outside you can feel and taste
No sign of yesterday
And I can’t hear you calling
I can’t hear you calling
I can’t hear you anymore
Metal ships are falling
This old car keeps stalling
Always seems to be the way
Pick up the pieces and go dig out the dead
Then you can go to bed
Night is the stealer and time is the test
No sign of yesterday
Pull out the stop plugs, drain all the waste
Who needs it anyway
Fill all the big holes, leave no trace
No sign of yesterday
And I can’t hear you calling
I can’t hear you calling
I can’t hear you anymore
Metal ships are falling
This old car keeps stalling
Always seems to be the way
Hey Deadpan
I see we’re competing for the longest comment to be read by Jack.
Oh?
Giggle.
And Cj’s going for the shortest :cheerful:
Hey look! An LLAP appeared on my I-tunes.
And a Wander Radio. I notice both are mini sized episodes, though.
Wow, I didn’t know that Ed knew Disturbed lyrics…
:runs away:
Morning, DP, and Happy Friday!
Working at home today, waiting for one of those “between 8 and 3” appointments from a plumber to check out our hissing water heater. Finger’s crossed we won’t have to shell out for a new one – not now!
LLAP? What’s that?
There. Kicked hubby out the door for the day and opened all the curtains in the house, even though it’s still dark. Now ready to pretend to work.
I was beginning to wonder that myself, Cj.
Hey, now.. be nice
At least we are every 2 weeks (for now) instead of once a month.
We are working on getting back to weekly!
I have the CUTEST new shoes! I’m wearing them today, but am dismally appalled at myself for not getting a pedicure first.
Ooooh well.
Red shoes rock! (and they make me about 2 inches taller!)
Arg! That darned Evo Terra!
Cj, on LLAP you said there was not enough chocolate in your life – really?
That can be rectified.
So what is Evo doing to tick you off?
Sounds like Dan is hitting his mid life crisis a little early. You never know Cj, he may look good with long hair.
I just want to grrrrrrr at somebody today.
I am running an experiment with WR over the next couple of months. Let me know what you think.
You can grrr at me Van, I don’t mind.
*hugs*
It is kind of a grrr-licious day today so far.
I’m with Bunny – she and I will sit quietly while you “grrrrrr” at us..
How does that sound, Van?
As for the chocolate – I think I’ve been chocola-fiending a lot lately.
I don’t know why, but for now, I’m chocolatisfied.
I’m makin’ up words.
I’m word maker.
Makin’ the words.
Wording it up…
Word!
Gross and prolly NSFW do to a blue nipple slip….

WOLF!
It is your fault that I had “I kissed a girl” stuck in my head for almost two weeks.
Just thought you should know.
Just spent the last 40 minutes on the phone with Telus going over our new phone plans. It was strange, I spent 30 minutes talking with one person, he had no idea what I wanted so he transferred me. The girl went “ok” and had me renewed in only 10 minutes.
All in all we’re quite happy. Tomorrow we get our new smart phones and, even adding internet usage, our bills will only increase by $0.50 each. That’s the way it should be.
I don’t know if it’ll hold up, but the first two episodes had me laughing out loud. 4realz.

Maybe, maybe not. Most of mine are music my parents played around me when I was young, too.

2. Rockapella – Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
3. Simon and Garfunkel – Greatest Hits
4. The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
5. Tom Lehrer – That Was The Year That Was
6. Vince Guaraldi – A Charlie Brown Christmas
7. Geoffrey Burgon – Brideshead Revisited (1982 miniseries soundtrack)
8. Rockapella – Primer
9. The Moody Blues – Days of Future Passed
10. Various – Grease movie soundtrack
11. Santana – Supernatural
12. Styx – Greatest Hits
13. Klaus Badelt – Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
14. Green Day – American Idiot
15. Sting – Nothing Like the Sun
Extended list of albums that will always stick with me:
16. Charlotte Diamond – 10 Carrot Diamond
17. The Moody Blues – Seventh Sojourn
18. Shiro Sagisu – End of Evangelion
Gir = the best character on Invader Zim.
I notice that my RSS reader (Google) only receives new information from the Deadpan boards at relatively large increments (more than half an hour) which leads to going from no comments to 35 comments in a fell swoop. The reader doesn’t seem to have that problem for other sites. Anyone have an idea as to why this happens or if I can do anything about it?
Amy – Yeah, that didn’t help at all. =)
Yanni. Bitches.
Hey, at least it isn’t Tesh.
usedHair – I prefered Gaz.
As much ad I like Gir, I have to have closed captioning on when I watch Zim because I have such a hard time understanding anything he says.
I have been oddly absent. Sorry about that. Looks like I have much catching up to do.
Jack: I’ll get my lines back to you today or tomorrow.
Sounds very agreeable TEB and Cj.
Anyway TEB, what smartphones are you getting on the new contract?
Oswald Cobblepot: I believe the word you’re looking for is, “Aaaaaugh”
I’s going for an i-phone 4 Van, hubby’s getting an HTC Desire (Droid)
Well, I’m taking off. Apparently I’m buying my Boo lunch today.
Aha, welcome to the club TEB..it has a rather large membership roll…
UsedHair, Outlook’s rss reader only checks every hour. according to outlook that is the max update rate as set by the site admin. I assume that is some default because i get that warning for nearly all feeds i subscribe to
What did Evo do?
What is WNDR’s experiment?
I hope all is well, JR!
I defy any of you to dislike the song, “Nostalgia”, by Yanni.
Has anyone out there recently gotten a tankless water heater? I just got a quote for an astronomical amount (from a trusted plumber) and wonder if I’m being duped . . .
Someone (Bunny?) was just going through some water heater replacement trouble, this past winter(?).
My data may be a bit unclear.
Jack asks: What did Evo do?
I present this lovely Twitter transcript from earlier this morning.
Nomad_Scry: Gummy bears aren’t as good half a week later.
10:42pm, Sep 09 from Echofon
twinklergirl: @Nomad_Scry Oh, yeah.. and the more stale and chewy the gummy bears are, the more made of win! I like the chewy!
4:39am, Sep 10 from HootSuite
Nomad_Scry: @twinklergirl You like Dots, don’t you? 🙂 I prefer squishy to chewy. … Now why am I thinking of bugs all of a sudden…
4:50am, Sep 10 from Echofon
twinklergirl: @Nomad_Scry Not a big fan of Dots, though, if I get a stale, red, one… I will treat it like hard candy. (trying not to say I’d suck on it) about 5 hours ago via HootSuite
evo_terra: RT @twinklergirl: If I get a stale, red one… I’d suck on it. [This tweet may have been edited from its original content.]
Outlook. Don’t insult me thinking I use that piece of shit. I’m using Google’s RSS reader (insert joke about what crap Goole’s reader is here). It will update something like fail blog 3-4 times before it gets around to updating Dradpan. Even when I refresh the page (which updates everything else) it can’t get anything from Deadpan. Are there better readers out there (especially for Firefox) that other deadpanites are not having the same issue with?
Speaking of Google Reader – why when I am reading the Deadpan can I click my center mouse button and scroll happily up and down without holding any buttons but when looking at my Google Reader feeds clicking the center mouse button does not give me my pretty little circle with arrows?
grrrr
“stale red one”
I mention outlook because it told me there was a limit to update frequency.
I only use outlook because it is easy and always open anyway and I don’t have to clicking away when someone comes in it just looks like i’m looking at email

Disturbed…
Actually, just finished watching “Kick Ass”
Sort of a cross between “Mystery Men” and “Watchmen”
I liked it. Definitely interested in another chapter.
*pondering sound effect for “taking the meat out”*
*pondering did I hear that right*
There’s probably a sound effect from “Blazing Saddles” that would suffice, and/or “Bachelor Party.”
While we’re on the subject of music, I need recommendations for new music. Could you please read the following characteristics and tell me the first (few) song(s) that come to mind?
-relatively fast-paced
-has a strong beat
-newish
-has a clear crescendo or other change in musical sound
-has lyrics related to an angry reaction to a betrayal and/or to the idea of “waking up” and facing reality
This is for a creative challenge over on LiveJournal.
Amy, once you got to newish you lost me. I would have to ask the kids.
reaper: Was there an older song you had in mind? If so, I’d consider it.
interesting list: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/redeye/2010/09/40-celebrities-that-leave-us-starstruck-smitten.html
for #18 I think LoPan would have a different reaction
I hate to be predictable, but “Watershed” by Opeth (2008) is a decent candidate. Harsh at times, but also beautiful at others.
I suppose there’d be a few songs on the new Apocalyptica that fit the requirements too.
mmmmmm
Ed Westwick…
I repeat… mmmmmm
Amy, I was thinking “The Humpty Dance” but just stopped at newish. is also dons’t fit the rest of the criteria either
more seriously Lighting crashes by Live but it’s not fast
Amy,
How about Please Don’t Leave Me by Pink
Off the top of my head.
-relatively fast-paced
“Masquerade” – Symphony X
-has a strong beat
“Fame” – David Bowie
-newish
Newish? Like something that sounds like an emerging style of music? I can’t think of anything.
-has a clear crescendo or other change in musical sound
“She Comes In Colors” – Nevermore
-has lyrics related to an angry reaction to a betrayal and/or to the idea of “waking up” and facing reality.
“Brother” Warrel Dane
I think you can find all these songs on Youtube.
And you knew I’d put Nevermore in the list didn’t you. LOL
Of Montreal – The Past is a Grotesque Animal
Call me old fashioned, but I just hit the refresh button on the web browser to see if there are any new comments on the DP site.
The the song by “Of Montreal” song slowly builds adding new instrument tracks and vocals along the way. Good choice Jack.
Just some cool photos in this slideshow:

Newish? Like something that sounds like an emerging style of music? I can’t think of anything.
I just meant “released within the last 15 years or so.” Thank you so much for the suggestions so far, everyone!
Oh, well in that case I would suggest anything by Lykke Li.
Also, sorry more Nevermore. But my wife and 73 year old mother really like this song. Good example of a song that builds.

I still think “And the Maiden Spoke” is the best on the album, both musically and lyrically. Good ghost story, fucking incredible guitarwork.

“And the Maiden Spoke” is a great song.
She was a tortured soul in pain
She whispered this dark refrain
“You’re not alone, so never be afraid
We are the cold and beautiful, you are the blue insane”
The concept of the “blue insane” is in many of their songs. I think I need to trace it’s origins.
Rhettro: Thank you so much! I decided to use “The Blue Marble and the New Soul.” It fit the challenge quite well. Here’s what I came up with for the creative challenge, if anyone wants to see.
Amy, I’m so glad you like it. I’m curious to the reaction the other Livejournalist will think of it. 🙂
“The Bacon and Egg Cheeseburger – only at IHOP”
COME!!
ON!!
I’m still holding out for the “Rooty Tooty Fresh n’ Fruity Burger” from IHOP.
Off to be blinded with science. Talk at you soon.
DPITMFW.
Funny story: I had a nickname in High School based on that breakfast.
I’m gonna watch Book of Eli tonight.
-relatively fast-paced = check
-has a strong beat = definitely check
-newish = yup, 2009
-has a clear crescendo or other change in musical sound = sure-ish
-has lyrics related to an angry reaction to a betrayal and/or to the idea of “waking up” and facing reality = Hell to the yes

If the lyrics don’t scare the crap out of you there is something really really wrong with you
http://x.co/jackm
I really wanted to make it with “jack” but it was already taken.
Only use one m… though I know we all have the urge to go jackmmmmmmm
I know I have threatened to do this before … but at the moment “The 5th Element” is actually downloading to the TiVo.
Tonight … it shall be mine!
Usedhair said:

Well, they did. 0_0 Thanks for the recommendation.
BTW CJ … I think we have ALL ” really wanted to make it with “jack” ” at some time or another but, ah well, Such is life.
What JOe said.
Ooooooooo! I’ve been waiting (very impatiently) until my AT&T contract runs out at the end of January to get a droid phone. I just did the math and I can save $50 per month for 5 months by switching to the Verizon family plan that my wife and daughter are already on. Even with the $80 fee for early contract cancellation and the $99 for the HTC Incredible, I will still come out $71 AHEAD by being impatient and getting a droid now! How cool is that?!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Droid.
Droid does!
Still can’t believe I typed that out and didn’t realize what I was saying.
Damn Freudian slip, that’s what that was!
SWEET!!!
As long as there is “The 5th Element” in the world, life is good! 🙂
I deem that film to be “shelf space worthy”.
Rhettro: I’ve gotten two compliments on my submission so far, but they were both, “wow, good job on the fanfic you wrote!” and not “wow, awesome song choice!”
Night, Pan.
Awesome, thanks for the interest everyone. 🙂
Umm. . . what will we be making anyway?
I just said “That’s what she said…” in unison with CJ.
Okay, yeah and it is 2am on Saturday and I’m just now listening to the show.
Please don’t judge.
Ginger Zee? That’s an awesome name.
usedHair – I watch everything with captions on. I can’t figure out what is being said otherwise.
Sadly, it ruins the comic timing of most jokes.
EssBee – I’d love to hear your reaction to Book of Eli.
NS: Meh on the flick. It was okay, and I’m a big fan of apocolyptic stuff. It didn’t wow me, though. Why am i awake?
Insomnia?
Book of Eli felt very 70’s B movie to me.
So Pan, one more shift and then no work for 2 weeks..yah.
Alll that free time and no plans, I’m going to have a serious word with the planning department I can tell you.
Wolf, not sure about the short shows, I was just getting into the music and the episode was over.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of shorter running podcasts, but this felt too short.
Anyway my two pennies worth.
Oh and Essbee, if you want to keep out of trouble on your road trip, don’t forget the boxing gloves…
CP: Don’t Me Wrong – Lilly Allen.
Pilot for the new Nikita wasn’t bad. I don’t think Maggie Q -can- act, but everything else was fine.
EssBee, Van – I was pretty disappointed with Book of Eli. But I thought I was getting a post-apocalyptic angel tale, which is not what it was about.
Maggie Q, a bit too skinny (understatement), but she can do the action scenes.

I’m putting my Itouch away and going back to my older Nano for my main music player. The touch just isn’t a very good Ipod…..nor does Jobs want it to be.
Finally got my new Audible credits. The new Brandon Sanderson book is coming down the pipe now. Seven parts, 45 HOURS of story. The hardcover edition is over 1000 pages.
If it’s anywhere close to what he managed in picking up The Wheel of Time, this should be a good read. Supposed to be the first of ten books he’s planned for this story.
Not good in what way Ed?
I can see the frustration if you have a huge music library as storage space is relatively limited.
Ed, the Sanderson book isn’t the WOT book, right?
Man, what a rough night . . .
Well I splurged a bit on Xbox Live this weekend, got the Xbox versions of Plants Vs Zombies and the Scott Pilgrim game.
Been pricing HDMi leads, and although I knew how much high street stores were ripping people off…but 80 quid..WTF!
No, I believe the next WOT book comes in November.
Ah, here:

The book that I downloaded is a new original series that Sanderson has started:
Amazon reviews look pretty promising so far:
http://amzn.com/0765326353
Audible says it’s a two credit book, but they are running it on special for one credit through the end of October.
I’ve listened to the first thirty minutes and it sounds pretty good so far.
I will be purchasing both of those Xbox Live games as well, Van.
Let me know what you think, Ed, but I admit I’m not too interested in his stuff.
I just went and spent a fortune at Costco. We’re now stocked up with fish and coffee beans and sugar free gum and all the junk I didn’t need to buy (and probably wouldn’t have if Sly B had been with me).

Anybody know if Wii games have region coding that prevents other regions from using them?
Word is the new Doctor Who games will be released only in the UK, Australia, and parts of europe…
Sorry to be the bearer of bad new JB, but Wii games are region coded.
If you hack your Wii, you may be able to get them to run:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page
If your Wii is running the old 4.2 firmware or below, than there is a commercial product called Freeloader that may work, but whether you could still buy it is another matter.
Or if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and have a Wii bought before August 09, then you could buy an hardware mod for the Wii:
http://www.digitalera.co.uk/products/Wasabi_Solderless_Wii_Modchip_Free_Tri_Wing_Screwdriver-1272-151.html
For Wii’s after August 09, you need to do scary stuff like replace the DVD drive in the Wii…

bleh!
I scored that Blu-Ray set when it was on sale for a dollar more than they’re running it today. Definitely worth it!
I also got to start watching the first part of the BSG miniseries on Blu Ray that I bought when it was down to $130 on Amazon for the complete box set. Also definitely worth it. That was also a complete run on sentence.
Rhettro: One of the other Livejournalists just commented on my creative challenge entry and said:
Love your song choice, and the ficlet is just awesome!
Thanks again for the advice.
I’m pretty much astounded that the airlines are still in business. The entire experience is miserable.
Agreed about airlines.
I’m gonna grab that Firefly . . .
Speaking of good prices on DVDs. One of the sqaunders from yesterday for me was S3 of Dr. Who on DVD.
How much was S3? Last time I looked, Dr. Who seasons were going for $90, which is way to rich for me.
$39.99, NS. I picked it up. I actually had S2, 3, and 4 in my cart and came to my senses and went with our favorite. They didn’t have S1 for some reason.
Wait. Your favorite is Martha? She was great in the season opener, but then they were hopelessly wishy washy with her character throughout the season. It was so annoying. One week she was a clueless neophyte chasing her lovelorn Doctor and the next she was a capable and confident confidante of the Doctor. And then back to pathetic and useless again the next week. Aaaaargh.
I’d go Rose, Donna, Amy, Martha. And Chris, Dave, Matt. =)
A capable and confident confidante of the Doctor, HA! I r funny.
Dr. Donna kicked butt!
I’ll be sticking with my upscaled Firefly DVDs.
I love Donna. I actually love Donna and Rose AND Martha!
We’re off to grab a vertical stand for the PS3 at Best Buy!
I don’t know if any of the DP crowd use a DSi with a flash cards, but if you do the latest firmware from Nintendo blocks several makes of flash card. There is a fix for the Acekard2i, but it must be run before you update the firmware on the DSi:

I’m pretty sure I told Monday to stay away for an hour or two longer.
We almost saw the new Resident Evil movie but ended up not. Did see a movie called Franklyn, though. It wasn’t what I expected but still very enjoyable.
It’s still dark. I think I’m going to institute a rule that the sun must get up at the same time as me. I think that’s reasonable.
So hubby and I went out to get our new phone on the weekend. There’s not a single store in Calgary that has either an i-phone or a Desire in stock. Besides the phone centre we contacted several Futureshop stores, BestBuy, and London Drugs. They are all back ordered but none of them would take an order. You have to call them on a regular basis to see if any have come in. I was very disappointed.
I wonder if there would be more sun if it stopped raining.
On a related note, they are predicting wet snow on Thursday. I personally am hoping they’re wrong.
Ok, where is everybody? Is it too early in the morning for Deadpan?
I double checked in case I did the same thing as Cj and was posting to the wrong episode. Nope. It’s not me, it’s you.
Well, since I’m obviously alone in the Deadpan, I’ve decided to remove all my clothes and dance to the music
CP: Neither Can I – Slash’s Snakepit
Woah!!
Hey EssBee!
I guess I better put my clothes back on now.
Well, that was a short lived visit.
Sorry – work’s a bit crazy on Monday morning . . .
I’m leaving in an hour. Boy will you all feel bad for having missed me.
CP: Help! I’m a Logo – Plaid Tongued Devils
Been to see Cyrus, more cringeworthy than funny, but thought the ending saved the film for me.

I didn’t look!
Hey Van!
What do you mean you didn’t look? What’s wrong with me? *looks down at self*
hmmm… nekkid bunny
BTW Wolf, I agree with Van, the format was almost too short. Maybe a compromise and a half hour show instead of ten minutes or an hour?
Morning Pan! It’s the dreaded Monday the 13th!!!
🙂
nekkid bunny 🙂
this non-naked bunny (it’s cold here in Canadaland) is going to change the kitty litter and take out the garbage.
TEB – hmm really. ok. I will work on it.
My kitty’s happy. She has a clean bathroom and I just pulled some towels out of the dryer so she has a warm spot, on this chilly day, to sleep.
Here’s something that pisses me off:
People who Email/IM a response to something and start with “Um.”
That just screams “I am an asshole.”
But I am an asshole…
You so are not, Wolf.
um…
Now if you were a Customer Service person who emailed a Division Manager with a smart ass “Um.” email, you would be!
er…
Just spoke to the local Apple Store. They’re out of the i-phone too. Go figure.

I watched “Green Zone” this morning. I was a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be a Bourne knock-off. Which it was not. Really, not a bad movie at all, just not my oyster.
And then I fell down a lot trying to get past the 7th chapter in Mirror’s Edge. I’ve been playing it on and off since Feb or March? I’m -terrible- at platformers but I’m having a lot of fun with the simulated freerunning.
I agree about Green Zone, NS. Good story, but didn’t like the film.
What should I watch next: Solaris or Terminator Salvation?
NS: I enjoyed Mirror’s Edge, though I hated the trial-and-error aspect of it. Pretty good story, though a bit too short and predictable.
We saw a GREAT film recently: La Mission
It’s set in San Francisco and focuses on a machisimo Chicano dad (played by Benjamin Bratt, who I LOVE) who’s son is outed and who doesn’t handle it well.
Great flick.
Solaris, Terminator Salvation is rather pants.
Although Solaris can come over s-l-o-w..
CP: Bach Street Prelude — Vanessa Mae
– who’s
+ whose
I’m in the Mirror’s Edge fan club, played it through twice (once without using guns), one of the few games I bought for the PS3.
I liked the art style for the game, and always nice to have a female protagonist who doesn’t look like she’s top heavy.
I actually gave up on the original Solaris.
Solaris it is. Thanks!
Are we talkng the Clooney version NS?
Hello
Has anyone seen the morning?
I swear it was right here a moment ago and I turned around for like just a minute and *POOF*!
Now I can’t find it anywhere 🙁
http://www.superscholar.org/features/7-skills-become-super-smart/
Now everyone get practicing!
Van: totally agree. Though there were some differences between the art for asian audiences and the rest of us.
http://www.racialicious.com/2008/12/03/mirrors-edge-pixilated-beauty-race-and-stereotypes/
Jack: Um…. 😉
ditto: Mirror’s Edge is one of those games I can’t play around my kid because I’m trying to teach him to have some self control when he’s gaming… and I growl and curse and throw my controller while playing ME.
I also find myself standing inches away from the TV, tilted at odd angles, flailing as I try to mentally push her over the jumps.
NS: Yep. That sounds about right.
7th chapter? If I recall, you are on one rooftop, behind a sign–yes, I know that describes about half the game–trying to get onto a different building and being shot to death by SWAT. Right? Yeah, I’m surprised my TV survived that one. It took me a while to figure that one out.
Question for our “internet security savvy” friends.
After nearly a decade of flawless “Billpay” access, my bank decided to “improve” their system and now I can’t use Billpay.
When I contacted them about this they told me I need to allow my browser (they automatically assumed I had Explorer … grrrr) to accept all third party cookies.
Am I out of line in saying, “WTF!!!” ?
Paypal doesn’t ask me to do this. Neither does Bank of America or Discovery or any other secure, financial site I use.
I could see allowing cookies for a specific URL but to allow my computer to accept all 3rd party cookies … hasn’t that been determined to generally be a BAD idea – security wise?
I need to try that game again with no guns.
It’s cool that way ditto, although can be a bit of a nightmare on later levels with more guards.
JJ: Did they tell you who the 3rd parties are?
In general, 3rd party cookies are used if a page is composed of content from companies other than the one you are visiting. They have some legitimate uses, but more often than not, they are used for ads and tracking. 3rd party cookies are a weak link and have been exploited by hackers in the past. So, I wouldn’t trust them in general.
If the company is asking you to enable all 3rd party access, I’d tell them to go stuff themselves.
Van: The Clooney. I’ve heard the original was really slow and I have a … a sensitivity to slow movies. Heh.
7th chapter is the one on the boat. 8th starts off on the roof with Merc telling you he’s going to set up an intercept for your sister. And then you get chased by those freakin’ kick boxing, jumping bean dudes… ugh.
JJ: One other thing: There are plenty of sites that won’t work without 3rd party cookies, so adding exceptions can be frustrating.
Thanks ditto.
That’s sort of what I told them.
I requested that if they had a specific URL that they would like me to accept cookies from then I think I can make Firefox do that (can I ?) but if the solution to their site’s “improvement” was to have me lower my own computer’s level of security, it was time for me to switch banks.
I have yet to get a reply to this.
jJ – That sounds a little sketchy, like bad tech support advice. I’d try it just to see if that actually did work, then put your settings back the way you had them. That way you’ll be able to tell support that it wasn’t that… probably.
Building a bomber in a day:

Meat dress?
Anyone catch last night’s Mad Men yet?
Not yet, it’s sitting on my HD.
Let me know when you do, Van.
Thanks guys!
Essbee – not yet. NO SPOILERS!!!!! *hyperventilates*
I’ll go and watch it now.
Don’t worry! I HATE spoilers.
Well 20 minutes in and I’m wondering what got you perked up Essbee.
Maybe she’s just had a baby..
I believe in the latest episode of Mad Men, they decide to maroon themselves on Earth by flying all of their ships into the Sun.
That BSG finale has a lot to answer for.
LOL.
I didn’t have a baby, but I DID just have a conf call with my boss and his boss.
I just thought it was a very smart ep.
Oh indeed, but they tend not to be many dumb episodes in MM.
One gets spoilt by all the goodness.
Very true. Without being spoilery, I really do hate watching Don’s spiraling down the crapper with his drinking. That is hard to see. J. Ham plays a very accurate drunk.
I PM you on facebook Essbee.
+ed
I’ll check it out, Van! Not from work, though . . .
Well not that important lol
There’s a woman on facebook posting some pics of her dead husband in memoriam.
However on one she calls a PS3 an Xbox, I don’t think it would be a good idea to correct her.
I’ll get my coat.
LOL.
“Sad about your husband. But COME ON!!!”
Speaking of PS3, we got a vertical stand yesterday and a controller charger. I set it all up and feel quite hip now.
Yikes.
That’s not why I dropped in, however. . . .
This is:

CR: I Shall Wear Midnight – Terry Pratchett
CR: The Windup Girl — Paulo Bacigalupi
Well, no, I’m not reading it right this second.
CR: The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet’s Nest, and the second Marla Mason novel by T.A. Pratt (can’t remember the title)
Man, those The Girl novels are wonderful
ditto, is it living up to the hype?
I was put off buying the Windup Girl because of the crap the publisher was getting upto (not paying authors for a start).
Now maybe that won’t (or hasn’t) happened to PB because of the critical success of the book, but you have to wonder if the author will get a fair share of the royalties when a publisher gets upto shenanigans.
Well I never:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcDshWmhF4A&feature=fvw
I’m also interested in your thoughts on the book, ditto.
Did you see that Facebook is getting rid of the living social stuff so we’ll no longer be able to share books stuff there?
Oooh, I hadn’t heard about the Night Shade issue, Van. Wow!
CP: Handle Bars — The Flobots
http://blogs.publishersweekly.com/blogs/genreville/?p=547
Jack: I haven’t decided. It’s a good book so far, and an interesting world, but I’m not wow’ed by it. At least not yet.
Van: I didn’t know that about the publisher. Maybe I should send them an email.
EssBee: Nope, I hadn’t seen that. I haven’t posted any of my living social stuff this year, though I did a lot last year. I really dislike the sharing policies some of these groups have.
BTW, I love that song.
That is rotten!
ditto, we should figure out another way to share books somehow. Andrea, Ed, and I’m sure others used that on FB for a while.
It seems Facebook is determined to kill anything that doesn’t generate a cut/bribe/extortion for Facebook.
We need some kind of foursquare for media.

NS: What should I watch next: Solaris or Terminator Salvation?
Van: Although Solaris can come over s-l-o-w..
Jack: I actually gave up on the original Solaris.
I haven’t seen Terminator Salvation but Solaris was beyond slow. I found myself yelling at the screen like I was playing a bad video game (“I could have driven to Moscow myself by now… ENOUGH with the scene of driving on the highway!” etc.).
Just watch The Fifth Element instead
Night pan
That’s a good suggestion, a great suggestion, but I’ve already seen Fifth Element around ten times so I think it only fair to give a new movie a chance before I rewatch Fifth Element. Again.
Fifth Element is unique among beloved cult films in that there was never a deluge of crap-ass sequels.

Morning Pan.
Looking back at yesterday’s comments I only have one reply:
Jack, hubby still subscribes to Dragon and Dungeon Magazines. The only thing is, they are now strictly e-format.
I think our coolness factor just dropped several points.
Poor hubby went to the optometrist the other day and they told him he needed progressive lenses. He’s starting to feel old.
I sometimes wonder if 5:30 am (mountain time) is too early for most Deadpanites.
Ah it’s nice to be an exception..even if it ‘s due to time differences.
😆
How are you enjoying your holidays so far, Van?
I’m wondering if this woman can appreciate how her paranoia and insecurity has completly killed any feelings for her.
Sigh
Well other than that it’s been nice and quiet TEB.
I not sure whether to say good now or not
So it’s cheap day at the arty farty cinema, waiting for Tamara Drew to start (British comedy) and it appears the audience is mostly pensioners.
Today is the day for nor feeling old…
-r +t
Yeah to feeling younger.
Bunny: Yes, it is kind of early. I’m not usually up before 7:00 A.M. Pacific (6:00 A.M. Mountain), although I’m working to change that. (Today I have an appointment at 8:00 A.M.)
I had a highlighter accident. Now my hand is all blue.
Amy, I’m up at 5:00 am every work day. It sucks, but that’s life.
You’re a better one than I am, TEB. I often wish I had more time in the mornings.
Off to get ready for the day.
re: meat dresses
There is never a pack of wild dogs around when you need it.
Well ‘Tamara Drewe’ was a mildly humourous film.
Amy, 7 a.m. Pacific is 8 a.m. MST.
Bunny, I’m up at 5 every day too, but at that hour, I generally drag my ass to the elliptical and work out, then make coffee and empty the dishwasher, then shower and beautify. I don’t usually look at the computer until 8 or so.
JOe, LOL
EssBee, I used to be the same. I’d work out for an hour then look at the computer about six or six-thirty but I haven’t been cleared to work out again yet so I get up at the same time (with hubby), shower, eat, etc. then sit my butt down in front of the computer.
Morning pan!!! Mmmmm coffee.
How are you feeling, Bunny?
Life motors on EssBee. I finally see a specialist in early October so we have hopes I’ll be able to fly by Christmas. The in-laws want us to visit over the holidays.
Jack might find this interesting, Dan Mangan, a musican from Vancouver, is up for the Polaris prize. This is a unique prize since it is cross-genre. A group of jurors look at all the albums released for the year and pick what they think is the best album overall, based solely on artistic merit. Last year, Fucked Up won. It tends to lean strongly towards indie artists.
Off to the grocery store. Expect a wet, cold bunny to return (currently 6c and rainy).
Motoring on is the only choice, Bunny!

Amy: I really enjoyed your Inception fan fic. Hope to see more in the future.
Jack: I enjoyed the Clooney version of Solaris, the original looked a bit to old for me to follow.
Energizer Bunny! Tell your hand not to be sad!
That was your bad joke of the day. Enjoy!
I finally got a chance to watch that Math machine video.
Wow. That was really, really cool.
I think I’ve been thinking in shorthand and scribbles lately. I think I’m going to start trying again to improve my penmanship.
Now to get caught up.
Bunny, I do hope you can keep motoring comfortably. . . . And I do hope I/we can help you with gas money. there’s plenty of somewhat naughty innuendo I can use to wrap up this sentiment, but I’ll choose the somewhat tacky *hugs* instead.
And to end the tumbleweed trio:
Thanks for the info, ditto. You may recall that I discovered Dan Mangan’s music a few years ago and really liked it. I haven’t heard anything since. (no relation)
OK, off for meeting prep. :drevil:
Apart from a walk around the estate, I’m a couch potato.
I salute you all who love to exercise, I never could manage that trick.
Please don’t think I enjoy it, Van! I’m trying to whip my blood sugar into shape, among other near-40 ailments.
Jack: I recall that which is why I thought you’d be interested. Besides, I don’t believe you about the no relationship. Clearly he is some sort of clone since there is no way there could be more than one Mangan with excellent musical talent. Clearly you are the progenitor. 🙂
CP: About A Girl — Nirvana
Why are *hugs* tacky? I give *hugs* all the time :sadfaceatJack:
So, in other news..
It’s my day off. Hurrah!
I already completed the majority of my grocery shopping. Picked the boy up from school. When I pick up the girl, I shall go to Target for bubble bath.
Everyone has been so nice to me today; in parking lots, at the store, at the school..
It’s nice people being nice today day.
Can someone explain to me the appeal and fascination with zombies? Cuz I don’t get it. Most of the time it is just the same thing over and over again. I suppose the same thing can be said about vampires, werewolves, and the like, but I’ve seen more inventiveness with those tropes than I’ve seen with zombies.
The part about zombies that confuses me is that people who would never associate themselves as scifi fans LOVE them.
Dropped my mouse into my coffee …
Need to go to Target now.
Zombies are not sexy.
EssBee: I’ve seen that with superhero fans too. Seems silly to me. 🙂
Cj: Oh no. Have fun. Totally agree.
Interesting post about an American that refuses to answer questions when re-entering the country.

I don’t know if MS are doing the same offer in North America, but you can 40% off you next renewal for Xbox Live gold membership if you are prepared to pay now.
+40%
Van: Yes, they are.

Cj is taking a bubble bath in Target??? Wish I was in Phoenix…
EssBee: Oh, yeah. I got it backwards. Thanks for correcting the time difference for me.
Rhettro: Thank you very much! All my Inception fanfic so far is up on my LJ, except for two drabbles that I haven’t put up there yet. Here’s a link that displays all the Inception-related entries on my LJ. There are 3 pages of them already! 0_0
EXCELLENT!

Jack: Awesome. I have a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf just down the street from my house. I am so going there this afternoon.
I may not make it to the one near me, Amy, but I wanted to share the info. I hope you enjoy. 🙂 I’m so happy for the return of pumpkin-flavoring season.
And hey, good job with the fanfic and the positive feedback.
Did. . . .did you actually use the F-word in one of your stories??
Shut up. The F-word?!
Speaking of pumpkin-flavoring, I found a recipe for pumpkin grits which I plan to try soon. I have always been a big fan of grits for breakfast, but have had them more often since I embarked on the gluten-free detour.
Yes, I did. The moderators of the Inception drabble community that I belong to on LJ picked that as the prompt a couple of weeks ago. Using it publicly like that was slightly uncomfortable.
Well that explains it. 🙂 I can’t abide the use of cursewords. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
ditto: I agree about the zombie thing. How overdone is this going to get?
EssBee: We didn’t eat a whole lot of grits back in NJ.
How about polenta, Jack?
Mmmmmm polenta.
Grits are delicious. I want some now.
I was just glancing back through some of the comments pages I’ve missed this summer, and I found this:

Amy, if you’re out there, we’d all love to hear how your big night went!
Jack is referring to the night I performed three songs live on stage at a songwriter showcase at a bar. I had a lot of fun, even though the last song was extremely awkward-sounding. I should have made my guitarist listen to the demo I had of that one. But hey, for having practiced together for all of five minutes before the performance, I think we did all right. Pictures and video were taken, but aren’t online, sadly. 🙁
Alas, I am awake and off to work before most of Deadpan even thinks about waking up.
RE: Zombies
While a lot of the genre doesn’t appeal to me much, I did enjoy Zombieland and the Resident Evil series is something of a guilty pleasure.
don’t you mean before most of deadpan has gone to bed? or do you not mean right now?
and does anyone care that I don’t feel like capitalizing anything… accept for that I back there. … and that one that just passed. I can’t not capitalize I when I say I … unless I say eye.
ay yi yi

capitalizing is for chumps
warning mature content
a little thigh is showing.. nothing dirty 🙂

TSH: I really like the jpg. Original? Probably a dumb question, but I’m asking anyway.
well I was going to put 1 more but I don’t want to put anything too naked on here.
It is art, not porn. But still. 🙂
so you all miss out on Hughs naked butt
lol. poor poor you!
yes, andrea originals
neat shot of the bridge I took a few weeks ago
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb415/hughdre/sanfran2.jpg
and a sea lion hanging out on the pier
the nieces and nephews dug the sea lions
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb415/hughdre/sealion.jpg
I don’t know what you’re talking about. That bridge wasn’t naked and (I hope) didn’t look anything like Huhg’s naked butt.
he, he, he… I said Hugh naked butt.
I’ve always loved living near water, but living by an ocean is so different than our puny lake Michigan in chicago 🙂
We don’t get sea lions in lake michigan
and you can’t get awesome seafood from lake michigan either
heh heh
butt!
more pier 39 sea lions

sorry you were denied hughs butt
I know you are all crying inside.

he has an artsy butt
TSH: Cool! Thank you for sharing your lovely photos.
I’m finally home from a very pleasant evening of studying and enjoying a Pumpkin Ice Blended drink at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I just recorded and sent in my lines for 60 Lines Part 3.
I appreciate your caution, Dre. Maybe you should take extra looks at Hugh’s butt, in our stead. Deadpan is not a place of porn OR censorship, but art is always welcome.
It’s really great to see your art again 🙂 And great to see you in a mindframe where you can devote some thought to your art again.
Also, I missed the free pumpkin drink in order to take the kids to the free Coyotes-Kings rookie game tonight. They had a blast. It was a pretty good day.
Of course I misread that as:
Girls are delicious.
That’s a lot of seals.
TSH – What kind of camera are you using?
Night, Pan.
Night, Amy.
But you couldn’t eat a whole one NS?
Gales forces winds are blowing, the beach should be bleak today, yah!
I doubt I’ll see any large wildlife, the seals tend to congregate further North from where I live.
Might be some dead seagulls though…
Nice photos TSH, maybe I have creeping fuddy duddyiness, but the photo revealing thigh was better because it wasn’t too explicit.
Oh I damn and blast I know I had forgotten something, I had better record my lines today.
Cool if it ever gets built:
