  1. Oh, and since I missed it yesterday – cool to see the LCMoD make an appearance. We had gone too long without the crack of her whip.

  2. Back from brekkie. Only got stuck twice. It amazes me how inconsiderate some drivers are. Our roads are starting to melt so getting stuck is a way of life at the moment. You’d think, if a driver sees someone stuck in the middle of the road they’d, at the very least, wait until the person is free instead of trying to pass.

    Oh No!

Must get through, even if it means, possibly, scraping both our vehicles because there isn’t room.

    (sorry, rant over).

Oh yeah. You should be afraid of me, Wolf… very afraid.

  3. It’s funny, speaking of villiage idiots brought back the memory of this guy who used to live in the small town I grew up in. There used to be this abandon house close to where one of my childhood friends lived. Anyway, the son of the property owner would sometimes squat in that house. He was mentally impaired in some fashion, either from birth or from drugs, I couldn’t really tell. He was a friendly dude though, not abusive in anyway, but patiently insane. A lot of my friends like to talk to him because of the crazy stories he liked to tell. Like how he was getting mail order parts from NASA to build his rocket to go to Mars. LOL

  4. Actually, Rhett, that sounds like he may have some sort of Schizo Affective disorder. My daughter has schizophrenia and you can get some similar (and stranger) stories when she’s off her meds.

  5. Your probably right TEB. They guy kinda of drifted for five years or so. I think his parents eventually got help for him. My brother in-law is also effected with a Schizo disorder, he was only recently diagnosed. But he seems to be doing better now that he found a better combination of meds.

  6. That I did not – I thought I was a little better plugged in to the podworld than that. Unfortunately, I’ve already got a commitment with my daughter tonight. It would have been cool to see Sigler again.

Hopefully I’ll make DragonCon again in the next few years.

  7. Back from lunch.

In reply to Ed’s question. It’s 75% certain I’ll be at the Disc World convention in Tempe this year. This takes place at the same time as Dragon Con

  8. Really Bunny? Excellent. I believe I owe you a greasy spoon? (that’s not a euphemism) Either way, we’ll have to do dinner while you’re in town.

If we get enough interest, maybe I can finagle a Deadpan event there (although, then again, maybe not. . . it *is* a themed Con – *and* competing with DragonCon).

I would really love to make a Deadpan Live Event happen, but I worry about the tumbleweed factor.

  9. LOL

I moved all of my music off of my lap top to an external USB hard drive … because it was using up all of my disk space. It seemed like a great solution.

Today though, I cannot get that hard drive to mount. 30 gigs worth of music, podcast and audio books – gone!

Ha Ha! Look at me, I am technology’s BITCH !!!

  10. My music might be gone but at least I’m not standing knee deep in 20 degree water on the wing of a plane in the middle of the Hudson River.

How’s that for looking on the bright side?

  11. So, Joe – just what does the drive do now when you plug it in? Any signs of life or any sign that it’s trying to talk to your computer?

  12. Hey Rhettro

Scott will sign Chicken Sissors if you bring them. Some guy brought 2 of each book, the origonal Infection Shirt, and Chicken Sissors… Scott signed everything!
I laughed my ass off, whising i had some.

I should go load my pics after i clean the kitchen.

OMG Another LCMoD, thats what 3 in 2 days.

  13. WNDRWolf: About TEB being the rabbit from “Holy Grail”… let’s just say that you and I must be on the same wavelength.

Rhettro: LOL! Donut cake: cake made to look like a donut, or donuts used as a substitute for cake? It’s your decision.

I like the idea of having a meetup somewhere. Phoenix is good for me, I think. I may be back in California by that time of year. Of course, that still leaves the problem of earning myself enough money to finance a trip to Phoenix within the month of August… so no promises.

  14. Ryah: Did you know that Calgary was one of the cities participating in the No Pants Subway Ride last Saturday? Apparently, it was. I just discovered this while reading Improv Everywhere’s official report.

  15. Ed – Re:Hardly Drive.
It doesn’t show up on the desktop but “Disk Utility” sees it. It shows it as “Not Mounted” and all attempts to mount it prove fruitless. Trying to run “Repair Disk ”
just gives me the following failure message –

    Verify and Repair disk “MUSIC_DRIVE”
    ** /dev/disk2s1
    ** Phase 1 – Read FAT
Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

    1 non HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

  16. Hmmm. That looks pretty bad. This is MAC based stuff you have, isn’t it? I know there are a number of programs for recovering data from corrupted drives for the Windows world, but I don’t know anything useful on the MAC side.

The external drive – is it a complete unit, or is it an enclosure that you put your own drive into?

  17. I haven’t tried it myself, but I keep hearing good things about SpinRite… it costs something like $90 for a single user license, so I don’t think I’ll be playing with it anytime soon.

I don’t suppose it is possible that the drive is not using a FAT system?

  18. Morning Pan!

It’s a beautiful eight degrees here in the northern city. With a predicted high of 12.

All in all, despite Van’s meh, I think it’s a starting out to be a beautiful day!

  19. Re: lost my drive
It’s a “store bought” external Maxtor drive. I’m going to try reading it from another Mac. Slim hope, but it is something.
I may just set it on fire and huddle around it for warmth.

    Is Van your Yoda?

  20. ditto – Someone had way to much fun with those balloons…

Amy – Please be careful. If you are on the same wave length as I am I worry about the corruption of the young and creative mind that you possess. Please be careful, You might end up like me.

I still think Bunnies are good to eat.

  21. *ahem*

I think I’ll ignore your last comment, WNDR (or I’ll pass the info on to my hubby – I haven’t decided which 🙂 )

  22. Well Pan, lunch is eaten, gaming has been cancelled for tonight (can’t access our roads) and cookies are in the oven doing what cookies do… Which I assume is screaming horribly as I know that’s what I’d do if someone put me into a hot oven 🙂

  23. Alphabet game hmmm. Ok here’s the start of one before I go and clean up my mess from making cookies…

Animals I have had during my life time

    A. – Animals, lots and lots as you will see from this list

  24. Daughter decided to have a shower, will have to do dishes after.

    On to the list

    H – Horses (God I hate horses)
    – Hamsters (yes I had both hamsters and gerbils

  25. J – Jack rabbit (this is different from a regular rabbit or bunny as we found him in the wild and tried to raise him. Wasn’t very successful, though)

  26. We used to put the gerbils and hamsters in the same cage of the iguana (that one was named Peaches). Iguana’s are vegetarians so it wasn’t a big deal

  27. Q – you didn’t really think I had a Q animal did you?

R – Rabbit. One day I’ll have to tell you the story of how my rabbit and my cat would get it on regularly.

  28. S – Sheep. We had a really stupid sheep. She would constantly try to strangle herself on her lead. Finally we gave up and ate her. As I recall, the meat was actually quite tough.

  29. I think that’s it. Not a complete alphabet, but still… It’s the only thing I could think of on short notice.

Now to clean up my cookie dishes!

  30. We called the bunny Sonny, because we thought it was male. It would constantly hump our female cat. Then we did get another male rabbit and found out Sonny was actually a Sonia. Just very confused.

  31. I was doing a meme on Facebook and I’m going to post some of my answers here because they were funny/cool. (I skipped the ones that didn’t seem interesting)

  44. Hi, EssBee!

Suns game over.. Suns lost. Waiting for the guys to come back and tell me about their night! It’s early… wonder if they are coming home or going out.

I stayed home, took the kids shopping, and recorded an episode of my own darn show. Now I’m just wandering aimlessly through the house drinking iced coffee.

  45. Another Friday night with nothing to do. Getting some reading done. Tomorrow its library time.

Hey J0e guess what….a kid from our local track may be running ARCA at Daytona, he was this month testing, timed in behind Lagano. I’m so ready for the year to start again.

  46. EssBee: the pain is…bad.

I think I’m about to resort to desperate measures of distraction. I might crack open one of my holiday presents to myself–the complete Beauty and the Beast collection (…the 80s tv series)…

  53. Way belated Happy Birthday Jack!

Been a busy and frozen week, training someone so I can have time off for the birth of my daughter, and yesterday morning -26ºF…

Now it’s 20ºF above and tonight Sigler comes to town….

  54. Good morning, Pan.

I have a little horoscope calendar. The kind you rip the pages off. I feel that today’s prediction for me needs to be shared as it is written:

Be true to yourself. If you commit to marching to the beat of your own (excellent) drum, you’ll notice you have plenty of company falling in behind you.

While the message isn’t very meaningful, the placement of the word “excellent” is quite excellent.

It seems that the word has attached itself to me permanently.

  55. Good morning (excellent) Deadpan!

It was a rough Evil, Inc. and general week for me, and I sure am glad to see Saturday. Today, I think I’ll spend the day cleaning. That always makes a girl feel better (the having a clean house, not the actual cleaning part).

  56. EssBee, I wish you a very pleasant and productive weekend. I’m the same with the cleaning. I don’t like doing it, but looking around and seeing the clean is very excellent and rewarding.

  57. I most definitely agree, Essbee & CJ.

My wife and I made a commitment to ourselves a few months ago that we weren’t going to tolerate living with an utter disaster of a messy house anymore. There are some areas, especially some closets, that still need work. But, we’ve been doing a much better job of keeping the main areas cleaned up, putting away shoes and clothes, and getting the kids to put away toys. It’s amazing what coming home to a clean house will do to your mood.

  58. Saturday’s are house cleaning days for my husband around here. He likes to vacuum and dust. I do the rest of the chores during the week so I like to watch and pretend I have a servant doing my work. He just rolls his eyes.

  59. Thanks, JB!

TEB, that sucks! I hope you can get your replacement going quickly. What’s with all of hte hardware issues around here, of late?

Ed, just read your song meme. Nobody expected your number 6 reply!

  60. You’re cleaning off your desk and you come across a scrap of paper that has your on-line I.D. and a completely unfamiliar password written on it. You then proceed to …

    The above was –
    (A) Part of a “Choose your own adventure” game.
    (B) Something that happens to me about once a month.

  61. I had a second to look at the business cards. Cool-mo-De!

Almost makes me want to have a card again.
There was one that said “Chris Fisher – Radio Announcer”. Any chance that was “podcasting’s” Chris Fisher ?

  62. I know every time that I hand out my business card, it’s just going to end up in the trash or disappear forever into some drawer. Those cards probably have a much higher survival rate. Cool stuff.

  63. I have …

Business cards for my music & movement program for toddlers which I’m closing down come March – both old and new versions of the cards in excess of course.

Business cards for LLAP Podcast – one stack with our oldest logo, one stack with our previous logo and a misspelling, one stack with our previous logo spelled correctly and… of course one stack with our current logo.

Business cards for our new media company which we have not yet launched.

I’m apparently horrible to our environment with my darned card obsession.

  64. Just watched BSG

I am pleased to see that this show can STILL make me say “Ah … I did NOT see THAT coming.”

In fact, at least three times in this episode.
Nicely played, BSG team. Nicely played.

  65. Thanks, Jack. I didn’t know what I’d done wrong.

EssBee, OK maybe I exaggerated a little bit, but it was only a little teeny bit.

The show was completely awesome. I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard. Glad I decided to go! (I almost didn’t!)

  66. Ok fellow deadpanites, some help if you can. A friend has asked for a list of 30 movies to see before she turns 30 in summer.

She isn’t keen on horror, so any recommendations for movies?

  67. Van, some of my favorites:

    -Freedomland
-Things We Lost In The Fire
    -The Usual Suspects
    -Pecker
    -Monster’s Ball

That’s all my no-coffee brain can come up with this early on a Sunday.

  68. I have some strange taste in movies, so I’m told, but also don’t like horror so here are some of my favorites:

    The Ref
    Go (1999)
    Love Actually
Risky Business (are there people who haven’t seen this?)
    Pete’s Dragon
    Fame (1980)
    Holes
    UHF
    Young Doctors in Love (1982)
    The Other Sister
    Reality Bites

  69. I’ll assume at this point you’re looking for older movies that she may not have seen.

Let’s start with all the Deadpan Palooza movies so far and

    Blade Runner
    Tron
    Krull
    Glory
    Excalibur
    2001/2010
    Wargames
    Star Trek 2 (KHAAAAAN!)
The original Star Wars movies (has anyone not seen those?)
The Sean Connery James Bond movies
    The Untouchables
    Legend

That ought to get things going. There’s plenty more good stuff. What’s motivating your friend in this endeavor? Has she already seen a lot and just looking for “important” stuff that she’s missed, or has she not seen many movies to begin and looking to jump start things with this list?

  70. Thanks for suggestions so far, more please if any occur.

The friend in question doesn’t get to see many movies not fit for a 11 year old, her 30th is looming and she has made a list of things to do before 30..one of which is to see a bunch of movies she has never seen before.

I’ve seen a load of movies (I go once or twice a week to the cinema) but my memory is so crap these days I rarely remember them.

Oh and just from seeing ‘The Wrestler’ a ‘worthy’ film but not one to watch if you want some fun.

  71. must see movies?

Please excuse the jumping around of genres here. Not sure if your friend is really girly- but there are several hardcore chick flicks in here 🙂 :

So I Married An Axe Murderer
    Joy Luck Club
    Princess Bride
    Hotel Rawanda
    Dead Man Walking
    Sid and Nancy
    Blood Diamond
    Fried Green Tomatoes
    Gone WIth the Wind
    Real Women Have Curves
    Steel Magnolias
    Bend It Like Beckham
    Thelma and Louise

There are several war movies I am trying to think of.. but the names are escaping me. Not sure if that would be her cup of tea so I will let it go for now.

  72. EssBee: I agree wholeheartedly that having a clean house makes a girl feel better. I spent two hours on Friday afternoon cleaning both our upstairs bathrooms, and I felt so proud of myself afterwards. I felt like I was doing a good job of taking care of my house, for a change. Plus, I hadn’t told my roommate that I was going to clean the bathrooms, so she was amazed when she saw them and gave me a hug. 🙂

  73. Casablanca
Monte Python and the Holy Grail
    Raising Arizona
    Fargo
    Caddy Shack
    16 Candles (maybe)
    Roxanne
    Jaws (the first one)
    Animal House
    Edward Scissor Hands
    Serenity
    Brazil
    Moulin Rouge
    Baron Von Münchhausen
    Logan’s Run (???? maybe ???)

… that’s what pops to mind, that hasn’t already been mentioned.

  74. Thanks, friends.

If virtual hugs could solve the world’s problems, we could save the world. Wouldn’t that be awesome? They help me 🙂

Just knowing that people care is what I need most right now. Ugh… I hate when I’m like this!

Maybe y’all should just pinch me and tell me to get over it since some things in life will simply never change.

  75. OK – so, to add to the lovely day I’m currently having, how about if the sewage drain in front of my house cracks and floods sewage into my front yard?

It’s like a comedy around here. Let’s hope I can find a cheap hotel with free WiFi since I can’t live in a house without water – which is the current situation.

  76. And, just so I’m not only posting stuff here – I have a joke for you.

A termite walks into a bar and asks, “Where is the bartender?”

Wait for it… It will come.

  77. So just used Oovoo for the first time. For video chatting it works better than skype on my netbook.

I’ve added you to my contact list ditto.

  78. The matchup has been made: Pittsburgh vs. Arizona. One of the friends I mentioned in my last post about football is from Pittsburgh. This is going to be interesting. I’ve never looked forward to a Super Bowl this much in my life – mostly because I’m more familiar with football than ever before, and I also have really cool people to watch it with.

  79. If Pittsburgh wins … will you have to sing “O Canada”? I’ve got access to the Swedish translation. Hold on a second …
    I’m just getting word …
Ah, it seems that this “Pittsburgh” place IS in fact, located in the U.S. not Canada.

  80. Pittsburgh is home to a few notable former Canadians, though. . .

I think a Deadpan-related Super Bowl wager is an excellent idea, J0e. Alice Cooper is a native AZnan; and is it Christina Aguilera who’s from Pittsburgh?

  81. My favorite Alice Cooper song is Poison – I suppose I could sing Genie in a Bottle if the Cards lose. I’m kinda hoping they win though. I am, after all, an Arizona native. It’s only right.

  82. Morning Pan.

Another movie for the list – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Why did I think of this one? Cause I have to wonder how broke Steve Martin must have become to be making a new movie like PINK PANTHER 2!!!!

Saw a preview of this during one of the football games yesterday – if the previews are supposed to bring out the best of the movie, this thing looks to be a big steaming pile.

  83. ZOMG… Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is an amazingly fun movie!

    I’d also recommend
    Time Bandits
    The Wedding Singer.
    St. Elmo’s Fire

and if she hasn’t yet seen it because an 11 year old might like this one, Enchanted is a great movie for grown-ups.

And like the majority of women I know, my current favorite movie is Mamma Mia!

My coffee is delightful this morning which means it’s going to be a good day!

  84. Another folm just came to mind …
    “Ghost Story” from 1981.

I only saw it once so I can’t say it really is good … but I recall it as being a good, scary film (as opposed to the “Let’s just murder a bunch of people in gruesome ways” scary film).

    Anybody remember that one?

  85. I haven’t seen that one, J0e.

No one has mentioned Raiders of the Lost Ark – the only essential of the Indiana Jones films.
And speaking of Spielberg: ET, Schindler’s List, and Saving Private Ryan are pretty much required viewing. I greatly enjoyed Minority Report, too.

  86. What weekend! Lunch with Jack, Teresa finished her first half-marathon and her time was in the top 10 percent of all finishers and… and the Cards are going to the Superbowl! wOOt!

  87. So – without going too far off the political deep end – what are your Obama Eve thoughts?
While his skin color has nothing to do with his ability to be Prez, it still makes tomorrow historically and socially significant.
As for his presidency, I wasn’t critical of Bush until halfway through 2001, when it became evident that he was a national joke. I will reserve judgment about Obama’s admin for at least the same amount of time.
I do love the fact that Barack is an intelligent, well-read man, as opposed to dubya. That alone does inspire some confidence.

  88. Jack: I think it is a great moment for the country, but I’m concerned that he’s being over-hyped. Expectations are being set way too high. I doubt that anyone could succeed in that kind of atmosphere.

Obama’s got a lot of hard work ahead of him. I wish him well.

  89. I agree with you, Jack. I think that cautious optimism is prescribed.

I am very disappointed by the choice of Rick Warren for tomorrow’s invocation, but at the same time understand why the choice was made. I just sat at a co-worker’s bday lunch here in the office and heard someone say “I guess we’ll finally see Obama whip out the Koran tomorrow.” We’ve got a long way to go as a people.

  90. Re: Inaugural Eve
I had some of this coverage on as background noise last night and was suddenly struck by the thought that in just some 40-50 years, our society has moved from a point where you could legally (in some places) prevent a black man from drinking from a certain water fountain to having one as the President.

I know that if you are the guy being oppressed, this is an eternity … but as social change goes, this seems a staggeringly short period of time for a shift that is so extreme.

    I find it quit amazing.

  91. Quite true Essbee, quite true. I can remember way back during the 2000 presidential debates and Dubya characterized himself as a someone who unites, not divides. I remember thinking I sure hope so. But it was pretty apparent where his alligence was within the first few months of office. What’s was alarming for me was he was a far worse candidate than I originally thought he could become. I’m ready to put that all behind us now. I like Obama. I feel that he has one of the hardest tasks in recorded history to overcome. I’m hoping for a more proactive policy in terms of the economy and a more informed foreign policy.

  92. More thoughts –

It seems that every single one of Obama’s picks for his staff or cabinet has caused one group or another to express disappointment or concern.
    I find this VERY encouraging.
To me it is a sign that he is NOT just here to collect the spoils of victory. That he may be “the great moderate hope” I never thought we’d see. A voice of reason in a landscape painted by the extremes.

It is also encouraging that every voice I have heard questioning one of his picks is very much like EssBee’s in that, although he has made them feel uneasy they are willing to “give him some rope” based on the perception that he is a very smart guy and just might actually have a plan.

At this point I’m willing to let my guard down and believe that he does.

  93. … and another thing –
I am overwhelmed by the number of people I see on CNBC from all over the political and economic spectrum, that feel compelled to remark about what a smart guy Obama is.

What a sad state things have devolved to where people are caught off guard by the fact that our President might just be one of the smartest guys in the room.
I’m not just talking about Dubya here.
While Reagan, Bush Sr. and Clinton weren’t considered dummies, I can’t recall anyone making any fuss about how smart they were.

For me personally, I’d feel a lot safer knowing that my President was smarter than me or the majority of people I know!

  94. I am currently on the phone with an investigator who is quizzing me about my high school basketball injury. I sought physical therapy last year to try and manage the pain, and Blue Cross is trying to get out of paying it! I am, by the way, 37 years old.

  95. A down side –

As I watch the coverage I realize that this may be a difficult time for those who are parents of the 10 and under crowd.
Obama’s willingness to talk publically about ALL of those really TOUGH things our society has been willing to pretend aren’t really there … makes me feal both uncomfortable and hopeful !
Yet, these are very “adult” subject mater. IMHO – young kids should be allowed to BE young kids and not have to worry about topics such as sex. However, our need to face these sex related issues as a nation will put this topic front and center. I’m hopeful that this might cause parents to get these youngsters out from in front of the TV and reading books or playing outside … I am also realistic about the difficulty they will encounter in trying to keep the information filtered to an appropriate level.

  96. Great job, Amy. I am a true believer in service. It is, I think, the only way to stay healthy personally, and the only way to make a sick community/neighborhood/society/country healthy.

  97. J0e, EssBee, Cj: Thanks for the appreciation!

EssBee: YEAH!!! GO AMERICORPS!!!! I did not know that about you! Did serving in AmeriCorps alter the direction of your career path, or was it part of a larger plan that you had in place from the beginning? Just curious.

  98. Amy, you might think less of me when you learn this, but I joined Americorps to impress a girl. That didn’t work out, but it was a great experience!

Seriously, though, yes indeed the experience definitely sent me to grad school focused on adult literacy, and then here to Evil, Inc., where I do still sometimes get a glimpse of the kids who go on to high school and college instead of the streets and jail because of what I do.

  99. Oh, and I was in the first Americorps class — I’m old. It was a spur of the moment thing. Bill Clinton said come serve, and a really cute girl listened to him. I followed her.

How about you? Has it changed your thoughts about your own future?

  100. Actually … I worked with an Americorps crew (not as a member but as part of another volunteer group) putting new roofs on houses along the Mississippi coast post-Katrina.
I cannot say enough about the quality of character (and positive spirit) of those Americorps folks! One of the best kept secrets of this country … and it shouldn’t be a secret.

  101. EssBee – As I was reading your career path I suddenly wondered if there is a “bigger” reason you ended up at Evil Inc.
Maybe you are there to help fight the Evil from the inside !! Or maybe just to help keep it in check to some extent.

Then again, it could be that karma has sent you there as punishment for that multi-state killing spree you went on in your early 20’s.

  102. (Sudden philosophical mode)
I am wondering if the “Sci-Fi GEEK” world has a higher percentage of people involved in community service or if this may just be specific to the sort of folks that hang out here.
Perhaps Sci-Fi geeks are less likely to be married (providing a conflicting commitment to service) and just have more “spare time” on their hands.
    (/Sudden philosophical mode)

  103. EssBee: Cool. It was more or less a spur-of-the-moment thing for me, too. I just wanted a quick, easy way to get out of the house and get a job.

And yes, being an AmeriCorps member has changed my thoughts about my own future. I’m not absolutely opposed to the idea of becoming a teacher now. In fact, I’m likely to teach adult classes again sometime. After all, it’s familiar work now.

J0e: I absolutely agree, it shouldn’t be a secret. Hopefully, it got some exposure from all the events its members were involved in today.

LOL! I like the “fighting the evil from the inside” idea. 🙂

    Van: Thank you!

  104. LOL Ed.
“naive, pandering, mind numbingly expensive regime” I couldn’t have summed up the “Bush Legacy” any better. Well done !

Obama is being handed the keys to a ship that has struck an iceburg and is half under water … oh and on their way into their own private lifeboat, the previous crew plundered all the cash and then set the place on fire. They lost the authority to decide which direction the ship is headed … so they have badly crippled it to make sure it won’t be going anywhere for the next 4 to 5 years. Very shrewd.

Let’s hope America TRUELY grasps the reality of how badly the previous management has trashed the place … and will have the patients for how long it will take to clean up this historic mess!
Otherwise it’s going to be one heck of a hangover TOMORROW morning when America wakes up and realize that the ship is STILL on fire and STILL sinking.

  105. My wife told me not to beat up the stupid people today. I told her, “How are they supposed to learn they are stupid?”

Sigh. The burden of being nice.

Sir Van: Some People have the misconception that nice = boring. How wrong they are.

  106. ditto – when I saw them wheel Cheney out of the White House, the thought crossed my low-brow, twisted mind … maybe that was the ONLY way (short of actually shooting him) that they could get him out of there. They had to hit him with tranquilizer darts and then secure him to the chair and wheel him out of there.

    I’m just mean.

  107. ditto, I agree it was a great episode and I thought the same thing when Penny started laughing. I wonder how many times the actor who plays “Kwipkee” messes up his w’s.

  108. I think Bush deserves some boos. His infamous “Mission Accomplished” banner has become a critical joke, but I think his admin accomplished most of their missions. Unfortunately for the rest of us.

  109. I wouldn’t worry about mean digs at dubya, J0e. . . . There will be plenty of anti-Obama meanness in the years ahead from those whose profits are threatened by the regime change. And the Coulter/Hannity/Limbaugh brigade stand to profit plenty in ratings and book sales by spewing baseless, destructive, knee-jerk bitching – it’s what they do. We’ll be hearing plenty of that. The wealth-centric hate system that’s corrupted the modern republican party from within is sure to get ugly, even worse than it was for the Clinton years.
Bring on the rational skepticism (he has a lot of great words to live up to now), but let’s dismiss the agenda-driven hatebabble, whenever we encounter it.

  110. I will say that it is going to require Captain Kirk like skill (Must … not … make … obvious … reply) to say to those who attack Obama’s ideas – “Why do you hate freedom so much?”
How many times did I hear THAT when I’d question the Bush administrations actions?

  111. On a trivial note, saw ‘Far North’ today. Beautiful scenery and a very nasty end.

One that will stay in memory for a lot longer than it deserves.

Oh and the N word was used.

  112. Ron Moore has returned to the podcast business. Listened to his chat about the new episode yesterday.

In an interesting new move, he stopped the recording right at the end as Tigh walks into the water. He said he would talk about that in future episodes.

  113. Good morning!

I woke up this morning and there was something different in the air.

It wasn’t until I opened up my browser and saw the headline: ‘White House stops pending Bush regulations for review’ that I realized what the difference was!!

Methinks I will go cook my Hughie some breakfast

anyone else want me to cook them something for breakfast???

  114. Hi EssBee!
Mmmm. Am I too late for breakfast again?

I’ve been off in my writing space.
    This morning’s musings?
    – Considering that the unprecedented and un-checked powers the Bush administration gave to itself have now passed to the Democrats, how lucky are the Republicans that Senator Clinton is not now their new Commander and Chief?
If you care to read more it’s at:
    http://justaj0e.blogspot.com/2009/01/by-their-own-sword.html

Otherwise – bacon and eggs with toast and juice.
How swell would that be ?!?!

  115. Bacon and eggs and toast and juice sounds great. As long you have stacks of toast, drenched in butter, like they do at the diner.

Vanamonde, that’s a really profound gesture. I hope the moment gives you some closure and a deeper connection to him.

  116. Thank you Van and Essbee.
I’ll a cookie to anyone who can tell me the three voices in the interview section are?

Crap nevermind … all I have are these Vension beef jerky and I am not sharing that.

  117. So everything went according to plan, spread the ashes into the sea at a local beach (which was thankfully quiet as it was getting dark).

I miss my Dad, but the Alzheimers had robbed him of so much at the end, that part of me is glad he isn’t suffering anymore.

    Thankful it’s all over now.

Thanks to again to everybody in the deadpan community, I appreciated all your kind thoughts.

  118. Van – I understand Alzheimer’s is cruel to not only the sufferer, but those around it. My Great Grandmother suffered from it – it was very difficult to visit her since she did not remember who we (my mother and myself) it was tough… wow forgot that was buried there… (Don’t worry she died in 2001 at the ripe old age of 100 years old. It was just a memory don’t worry about me.)

Glad to hear that everything getting better for you sir.

  119. You’ve struck me more as a “Dead or Alive” person JOe.

“You spin me right round baby, right round like a record baby, round round round round.”

  120. First sillyness:

this is the best interaction EVAR. Either Rhettro missed ditto’s joke entirely or I have the dirtiest mind ever:

    # Rhettro Says:
I hear if you soak your meat in vinegar and then rinse it off, it takes away the gamey taste.

    # ditto Says:
    Doesn’t that sting, Rhettro?

    # Rhettro Says:
Not if you wear rubber gloves.

  121. Well I may have missed everyones breakfast orders, but I’m going to go cook dinner now and I will leave extra for everyone at the bar

    Tonight we are serving

shrimp and veggie skewers with rice

moscato wine (we were feeling sweet today)

    and for desert: Blueberry pie

  122. Pffft!

Way to go Sci-Fi. This is certainly the sort of show you want to cancel.
    +++++++
    http://www.tvguide.com/News/Ratings-Battlestar-Returns-1001903.aspx
Ratings: Battlestar Returns to Out-of-this-World Numbers

The Season 4.5 premiere of Battlestar Galactica — which somewhat unexpectedly sprung on us the reveal of the fifth Cylon – was watched by more than 2.1 million total viewers last Friday night. That represents a 23 percent increase over the series’ average for Season 4.0, Sci Fi Channel reports.

Battlestar emerged as the No. 1 cable program in the 10 pm hour among men 18-49, and its boffo numbers made Sci Fi the No. 4 cable entertainment network of the night among the 18-49 demo. A “Great Notion,” indeed.
