Indeed, though I think they overplayed their hand some since we know some who “dusted” have future stand alone sequels already announced.

I do figure that those who were killed “naturally” like Loki and Gamora are lost for good, though.

    • ####################################################################################################################################################################################################################It’s in no way overplaying a hand. We have no idea how the characters that do come back will be irrevocably changed due to their death, nor do we know how irrevocably those who witnessed the deaths will be changed forever. Its also a fact that those who survived – the actors do not have contracts. IMO the only way to bring those who dusted back will be to kill off those who stayed. I honestly am tired of everyone saying their death meant nothing. Of course most are coming back. There’s so much more to their dusting than just them.

The saddest moment was when Thanos beat Star Lord in the dance-off.

Yeah, they did an amazing job of keeping all of the stories and characters on point, without feeling sloppy. Very well done. They also did a good job with Thanos. In a universe where ost of the villains are dull, he stands out.

I agree with Ed about who will stay dead and who won’t.

Did you stick around until the secret ending? I love that Samuel L. Jackson’s last words were “Motherf–“

Anyhoo… I don’t know anything about the Infinity War comic or the Infinity Gauntlet comic, so my two cents are just my initial thoughts on the storyline.

I think Thanos is going to be unhappy and unsatisfied with the universe that he has now created and he will use the Time Stone to re-write the story, starting before he sacrificed Gamora. He doesn’t want to live without her.

I don’t understand Loki’s powers or his origin to know if he is dead for good or not. I think all of the dusters will return and I think in the second movie, other heroes will die (i.e. Captain America or IronMan?)

I don’t understand the purpose of the Soul Stone at all.

I also believe that Dr. Strange did what he did because he saw the one future where they win.

I think the end scene with Thanos on the lakefront was on Gamora’s home planet. thoughts?

I really appreciated Scarlet Witch and also it was fun to see Dr. Strange really use his powers in this movie.

Van already spoiled that there was a cliffhanger, but I was sure it was going to be like that anyway. Generally I try and avoid any knowledge of the movie, including actor contracts, so that I can enjoy the movie as a first reaction. I managed to most spoilers this time, which lead to some fun surprises. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the movie.

As for who’s coming back or who isn’t, well Marvel has a lot of flexibility with story. They can do whatever they want because of the gauntlet. Plus, how many times has RDjr said he won’t be back? And yet, after 18 movies, he’s still here–that was a surprise. In any case, I hope Marvel doesn’t undo too much. It would cheapen some of the deaths.

I don’t believe Thanos will bring back Gamora. The ending was a clear reference to the Roman general Cincinnatus. Here’s a quote from Wikipedia:
“He came from his plough to assume complete control over the state but, upon achieving a swift victory, relinquished his power and its perquisites and returned to his farm. His success and immediate resignation of his near-absolute authority with the end of this crisis (traditionally dated to 458 BC) has often been cited as an example of outstanding leadership, service to the greater good, civic virtue, humility, and modesty.”

This is how Thanos views himself. He’s made, in his mind, great sacrifices to accomplish something for the greater good. That theme was harped upon repeatedly throughout the movie, and not only from Thanos; from Vision insisting on his sacrifice to multiple references on “trading lives” by various heroes.

While I’m not a Thanos expert, from what I know and have read, I liked not only how Thanos’ storyline was adapted, but also how he was developed as a character. I was very surprised at how much time was spent doing just that. He’s not just a cut-out villain. He’s much more human in the movie. I think the interaction between him and Stark near the end was one of the better moments in the movie.

Overall, it was a great Marvel movie.

I should also add that I think this movie was the perfect counterpoint to the theme in “Black Panther” about what makes a good king/ruler.

  7. One other largely spoiler free thought:

I thought the quips and banter felt a lot more natural and believeable than the previous Avengers movies, especially Age of Ultron.

Characters who had never met before interacted as I would have expected. Those who have been together a long time traded the kind of jabs that I expect long time friends/colleagues to do – much as we do here on the Pan.

I had previously considered Winter Soldier to be the MCU high water mark. I’m going to have to put Infinity War on top now.

    • I haven’t seen all the movies yet, though I think Winter Soldier is still my favorite. Black Panther and Infinity War are near the top as well. All 3 have a strong story backed by good themes.

To that point – – I also thought that the schism between the allies – – and the villains – – felt very natural. In past Marvel movies, it’s sometimes felt forced.

    • #################################################################################################################################################################################################################”He’s like if a pirate and an angel had a baby”

This is indeed the high water mark. Even if it’s not a perfect film the fact that they created something this hugely complex and pulled it off with almost flying colors is extraordinary.

I’ve heard some reviewers say that it’s a nice one time watch but they don’t feel the need to see it again. I have no idea how one can think this. It demands multiple viewings

  8. I was actually surprised by the cliffhanger, didn’t see the comparison to Empire Striked Back till after I had seen the film.

  9. After seeing it again I’m puzzled as to why the Woman and elf servants of Thanos are so poorly rendered compared to the other CGIed characters.
