No more fun stuff between colons around here.
It’s already dated.
I refuse to date.
It’s playing the field, keeping its options open.
Off to see Rogue 1 .
Fingers crossed for “Entertainment”.
I’m one with the Force.
Mission Accomplished.
We deChristmased the house today.
I hope to say the same this week.
Goodnight :mushwontdisplay:
Happy New Year, Deadpan! I stayed up until midnight with my friends last night, then did nothing today except go to church, work on creative writing, and talk convention plans over the phone. It was a good day.
To reply to comments from the previous page:
Lo Pan says: “A belated thanks for the card, Ms. Bowen!” <– You're welcome!
Everybody says: "Let's talk MMMMMMeetup plans!" <— The eclipse weekend in KC works for me. 🙂
Wherever I go, there I am, and wherever Deadpan is, so I am one with the Deadpan and the Deadpan is with me.
From the prequel that takes place immediately before Buckaroo Banzai…
Now that’s a movie I want to see.
Agreed! 🙂
So, confession time:
We got through phase 1 of our Holiday cards this year, but never got to any follow up phases. As a result, some friends and family got cards, some did not. Apologies to everyone we missed. The phases were not in any kind of priority order, of course.
No worries. Mine got split up into (I think) 3 phases, too, and the last phase didn’t get into the mail until a couple of days after Christmas.
CD: Watching the Rose Parade.
because
TIW: A Monster Calls
Yes it’s a weepie but a well done about a young lad coping with his dying mother.
Is it a weepie horror?
The previews reminded me of Iron Giant in a way.
Not really since the Monster is trying to save the young lad.
TIL: Van puts his banana in a blender.
You are going to get Lo shooting his load.
In Tempe, they’ve got a goddamn Swedish parade.
A Swedish Parade? Did they have a Will Ferrel float?
Much Music (Canada’s version of MTV) rated Michael Jackson’s Thriller as the number one music video of all time. I find it hard to disagree.
Prefer the first Aha! Video (Take on me)
The new season of Sherlock started off strong. Good to see the band back together.
I think that’s up next for us.
The Sense8 Xmas special was just ok to me, as much as I enjoyed the first. season.
From everything Ive researched and read the re-writes were actual blessings
I’d still like to see the movie shown in the trailers some day. I know it happens, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a case where so little of what was shown in the trailers actually made it to the final cut.
Honestly, I don’t really care. I get why people are grumbling a bit about it. After all, the Jyn vs a Tie Fighter scene looked cool. But the trailers did their job and got people excited and filled theaters. The movie I saw was great. No complaints from me.
I actually don’t get why people are grumbling
I won’t go into my trailer shpiel again, but I didn’t have that experience during viewing; I only noticed the discrepancies when watching the trailers afterwards.
I’m good with the film we got. The most intriguing missing scene (to me) was of the TIE Fighter facing her down on the catwalk.
So we thoroughly enjoyed Rogue 1 but got home feeling a bit … down.
Thankfully we were clued into a BBC thing that could be found on You Tube – “Peter Pan Gone Wrong”. A totally silly fare that left all laughing out loud.
New years day was saved!
Then right after, we watched the new Sherlock. Oh well. Back to melancholy.
So welcome to violence and to me watching:
Faster, Pussy Cat! Kill! Kill!
Ogling men and some rather tame erotic dancing.
But the jukebox, paint me jealous.
It appears driving fast in the desert leads to maniacally laughter.
Limp cat fight, quickly broken up.
You Americans do like playing chicken with cars.
The acting is pretty bad.
“Everything we touch is hard”
Yes indeed..
A race….to the death!
Yeah I’ve seen what happens, sorry.
Alas poor Tommy you were no match for Varla’s karate chops.
The girls learn about treasure at the gas station.
A story is concocted.
Varla’s may be into bondage the way she gags that young lass.
The way he’s playing with that cat looks rather dodgy.
The old man goes on an anti Democrat rant, he would have liked trump.
Showering in the desert seems rather wasteful.
Varla ain’t selling her story.
I don’t that think young lad knows what he’s got himself in too.
A lesson in an anatomy is rudely interrupted.
The girl escapes.
She doesn’t get far.
..and gets slapped around. By Varla for her trouble.
Another shower/tease scene.
If the old man is paralysed how can he feel pain when he hits his legs?
Plenty of innuendo over fried chicken.
Whisky makes the old man confess.
A hint of lesbianism.
..and a bit of seduction.
The young lass escapes again.
This family is fucked up.
The old man pulls the old throw away the keys trick.
Bye, bye blonde.
Running over an old man in a wheel chair, that would get you a lot of points in another film.
Bye bye Ms Italian pie.
Bye bye Mr Hunk.
Those muscles ain’t going to stop that car crushing you.
But car sinking in the sand will.
Varla’s on the warpath and someone is going to suffer.
A vicious fight ensures, plenty of karate chops.
Varla is gets killed by Linda in such a silly way.
The end.
Ummm, ok.
Morning Pan
A Vanamonde PbP! Yah!
I’m waiting on a delivery that will happen between now and the 12th. That means I’m stuck at home until then. I might get a little stir crazy from being stuck in the house for a couple of weeks.
You could always watch “Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!”
Actually, I was thinking of doing a play by play on The Angry Birds movie.
“The Stone Troll” is a poem composed by Sam Gamgee and recorded in the Red Book of Westmarch.[1] Sam recited this poem when Aragorn and the hobbits were resting[2] in the shade of the trolls who had been turned into stone during Bilbo Baggins’ adventure with the Dwarves.[3]
The Poem
Troll sat alone on his seat of stone,
And munched and mumbled a bare old bone;
For many a year he had gnawed it near,
For meat was hard to come by.
Done by! Gum by!
In a cave in the hills he dwelt alone,
And meat was hard to come by.
Up came Tom with his big boots on.
Said he to Troll: ‘Pray, what is yon?
For it looks like the shin o’ my nuncle Tim.
As should be a-lyin’ in the graveyard.
Caveyard! Paveyard!
This many a year has Tim been gone,
And I thought he were lyin’ in the graveyard.’
‘My lad,’ said Troll, ‘this bone I stole.
But what be bones that lie in a hole?
Thy nuncle was dead as a lump o’ lead,
Afore I found his shinbone.
Tinbone! Skinbone!
He can spare a share for a poor old troll,
For he don’t need his shinbone.’
Said Tom: ‘I don’t see why the likes o’ thee
Without axin’ leave should go makin’ free
With the shank or the shin o’ my father’s kin;
So hand the old bone over!
Rover! Trover!
Though dead he be, it belongs to he;
So hand the old bone over!’
‘For a couple o’ pins,’ says Troll, and grins,
‘I’ll eat thee too, and gnaw thy shins.
A bit o’ fresh meat will go down sweet!
I’ll try my teeth on thee now.
Hee now! See now!
I’m tired o’ gnawing old bones and skins;
I’ve a mind to dine on thee now.’
But just as he thought his dinner was caught,
He found his hands had hold of naught.
Before he could mind, Tom slipped behind
And gave him the boot to larn him.
Warn him! Darn him!
A bump o’ the boot on the seat, Tom thought,
Would be the way to larn him.
But harder than stone is the flesh and bone
Of a troll that sits in the hills alone.
As well set your boot to the mountain’s root,
For the seat of a troll don’t feel it.
Peel it! Heal it!
Old Troll laughed, when he heard Tom groan,
And he knew his toes could feel it.
Tom’s leg is game, since home he came,
And his bootless foot is lasting lame;
But Troll don’t care, and he’s still there
With the bone he boned from its owner.
Doner! Boner!
Troll’s old seat is still the same,
And the bone he boned from its owner![4]

came falling like a rain of flowers.

That sounds like Lo’s territory.
That sounds unpleasant for all parties involved.
My daughter can recite the entire script of “The Camping Episode” or Spongebob if asked. I think that episode reaches a Python level of humor.
Anyway if you want to avoid a sea bear attack please read below.
Defenses and Attractions
Attractions of a sea bear (with explanations and/or reasons):
Playing a clarinet badly.
Waving a flashlight back and forth really fast – flashlights are their natural prey.
Stomping on the ground – they take that as a challenge.
Eating, distributing, or even holding cubed cheese. Sliced cheese is fine.
Wearing a sombrero in a goofy fashion or upside down.
I find a few things on that list that appeal to me, but most of it gives me a reaction of “Haven’t I read this already?” or “Why?”

Morning Pan
We had a dusting of snow last night.
I’m procrastinating and I admit it.
Same here.
What was the word Van used for that yesterday. . . ?
Good morning.
I think people on Facebook might be tired of hearing about my upcoming trip so I thought I’d ramble on about it here and bore you all to pieces instead.
Because I love you.
You should spill the details, because it sounds like an incredible time.
I do believe so. LostRalph will be arriving early tomorrow morning in Arizona, then we fly out 2am on Sunday to Miami where we will meet up with the woman I’ve been buying coffee from online for the last 10+ years. We’ll spend the day with her, then meet Andycaster and his wife and kid for dinner, then possibly meetup with other people who are going on the cruise at some pre-cruise meetup. Maybe not. Depends how exhausted we are.
Then Monday morning we climb aboard the Norwegian Pearl with many Star Trek cast members and the Shat, himself, as captain. We get a photo op with him later in the week.
First stop Cozumel, Mexico on Wednesday where we’ll be taking a tour of the island including a tequila factory and chocolate factory – with samples, and probably some shopping.
Then after another day at sea, we’ll stop at Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas which is being converted into Risa “the pleasure planet” on Thursday, then we’ll stop again at Nassau, Bahamas on Friday – then back to Miami.
Yep. This is a subject I could ramble on and on about, but this is the direction we need to go. There’s a lot of push back from established industry, but the future will come regardless.
I’m more worried by the great social changes Tgat will be brought in when driverless vehicles go mainstream.
Well I asked the question.
I will now retreat back into the darkness.
/melodramatic pose
It was a reasonable question Van. I would love to have you visit again except I have to work the weekend before. It’s one of the reasons the weekend we picked works the best for me in August as I do have work the week before and after, but not that weekend
Thanks.
I am tempted by the convention, will have a think about it.
Hubby and I are going to this. Unfortunately we can’t make it for the Feb 3 event but will go on another day
Hey Van
I spoke to hubby and he vetoed a visit. It has nothing to do with you. (I feel like a girlfriend, it’s not you, it’s me).
While I put on a good front, the truth is, I’m not overly healthy.
My schedule for that time should be.
Thursday, get things together for WWC
Friday – Sunday – Work (basically 12 hours each day)
Monday – decompress (I have an agreement with my boss, if I work a weekend con, I get the next several days off)
Tuesday, see my doctor and massage therapist so they can give me heck and help undo what the three days will have done
Wednesday – pack for Kansas and continue to do nothing.
Hubby is worried (probably rightfully) that if we have company, I will want to go out and do the touristy stuff instead of just veging out. If I do that and then still go to Kansas for a few days following, I’ll be no good for a while when I get back.
Maybe the following year if I’m not working the weekend before.
Understood TEB, thanks for letting me know.
So, we watched the latest Bourne flick, “Jason Bourne” today. It was complete and utter crap. I can enjoy a dumb action flick if it has some redeeming qualities – this one has terrible direction, terribly choreography, terrible editing, and terribly cinematography.
Someone must have incriminating photos of Matt Damon somewhere for him to have agreed to this.
The Producers must have thought that movie goers were bourne yesterday or something.
I found it amusing that me and my sister in separate showings fell asleep at the same point.
crap joke for the day:
A man goes to the doctors feeling a little ill. The doctor checks him over and says, “Sorry, I have some bad news, you have Yellow 24, a really nasty virus. It’s called Yellow 24 because it turns your blood yellow and you usually only have 24 hours to live. There’s no known cure so just go home and enjoy your final precious moments on earth.”
So he trudges home to his wife and breaks the news. Distraught, she asks him to go to the bingo with her that evening as he’s never been there with her before.
They arrive at the bingo and with his first card he gets four corners and wins £35. Then, with the same card, he gets a line and wins £320. Then he gets the full house and wins $1000. The National Grid comes up and he wins that too getting £380,000.
The bingo caller gets him up on stage and says, “Son, I’ve been here 20 years and I’ve never seen anyone win four corners, a line, the full house and the national grid on the same card. You must be the luckiest man on Earth!”
“Lucky?” he screamed. “Lucky? I’ll have you know I’ve got Yellow 24.”
“Oh Hell,” says the bingo caller. “You’ve won the raffle as well.”
Trying solve the Tower of Hanoi in the minimum moves is surprisingly engrossing when you are waiting for a film to start.
Although it was one of those games that used to get written in BASIC back in the early 80’s, should have remembered the solution from then.
10 PRINT SOLVE TOWER

Cookie making time again
I am curious on average how many you bake at a time.
These particular cookies make about three dozen. I generally only bake now when people are coming over for gaming at some point over the weekend. The fact I bake cookies almost every weekend (almost being the key word), that should tell you how often we game
Gaming FTW!
Cookies baked and two washrooms cleaned. Taking a bit of a break before I clean kitchen counters and do the floors
What kind of cookies this week?
I still have a lot of Smarties from Halloween so I made cookies out of them.
Because it won’t stop snowing, tonight’s gaming has been cancelled.
Let’s see what tomorrow’s brings
I noticed Lo Pan hasn’t been on the Pan recently. I hope all is well
Well he was on Facebook earlier today.
Actually, come to think about it, EssBee hasn’t either. Maybe they’re snowed in
She’s been sharing family photos her brother has been posting.
Ok Deadpan, I’m taking a departure from my usual bad horror movie silliness to to just plain silliness
Today’s movie is The Angry Birds Movie
The PVR write up: Three flightless birds investigate the mysterious arrival of green pigs to their island paradise
Personally, I think this movie is a couple of years too late as, in my opinion, that hype train left the station awhile ago but *shrug* here it is.
Rated PG.
Huh.
Bird island
Run red bird, run
Scary clown
Butt bruise
What is gluten
Flying squirrel
Bird mime
That opening sequence was… strange
On trial
Anger is a weed growing in a garden
Anger management

Anger is contagious
The nicest part is not really getting to meet you

I bet you’re sorry you swiped in that lake now
Wisdom is not something given but something obtained

What a throughly strange movie
In his latest podcast, George Hrab ponders why they has never been a great film based on video games.
Although the Angry Birds film did quite well at the box office.
What was Hrab’s conclusion?
That they has never been a good film based on a video game.
Like it or not, Lovecraft was a product of his time. His views were not exactly uncommon during that time period.
Crap joke for the day:
A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl’s place. A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands. He then takes of his trousers and washes his hands again. The girl has been watching him and says, “You must be a dentist.” The guy, surprised, says “Yes! How did you figure that out?” ….”Easy,” she replied, “you keep washing your hands.”One thing led to another and they make love. After they have done, the girl says, “You must be a good dentist.” The guy, now with a boosted ego says, “Sure, I’m a good dentist, How did you figure that out?”…..”Didn’t feel a thing!”
Gaming cancelled for tonight too. Stupid snow 🙁
Succesful sneakery achieved for weekend fun!
Thanks goes out to the following Pannites:
LoPan, Rhettro and Mrs. Rhettro, Lejon

Uh knock. Knock.
Another day of fun surprises!
For all that I complain — and I do — I have great friends. And that includes my amazing wife. Fun weekend.
My thoughts are with EssBee today.
Yeah..
Extra hugs to EssBee from the both of us.
*hugs*
*hugs* from me too

Thought for the day:
How you react to person is on YOU not them..unless they trying to kill you.

I pick it up, good eating on one of those.

Ooooh Myyyyy!
Ep 1 of Man in the High Castle S2 under our belts. Good, but a lot of struggling to recall stuff from S1.
And (no spoilers, please), it was very distracting to me to have Milton from Office Space playing what appears to be an important role.
I never watched the US Office so no distractions for me.
Youve obviously never watched Office Space either…
This is very true.
Good god, man – – get on that! Office Space has got to be the most quoted/referenced film of this century.
PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that mean?
It’s obvious Van does not have enough pieces of flair
Is Van a Michael Bolton fan?
Watched the first two episodes of Emerald city, found it a bit of a snorefest.
Possible roadtrip with Lo.
I have a bad feeling about this :-p
2 words: World’s Biggest Prairie Dog.
Woof!
Morning Pan
Since I will be hubbiless this evening, I have decided to go to the AGM of our condo association. Isn’t that exciting? :ermm:
A woman takes a lover during the day, while her husband is at work – not aware that her 9-year-old son is hiding in the closet.
Her husband comes home unexpectedly, so she hides her lover in the closet. The boy now has company.
“Dark in here,” the boy whispers.
“Yes, it is,” the man replies awkwardly.
“I have a baseball. Want to buy it?”
“No, thanks.”
“My dad’s outside.”
“Okay, how much?”
“$250.”
A few weeks later, the same thing happens, and the boy and the mom’s lover find themselves in the closet together.
“Dark in here.”
“Yes, it is.”
“I have a baseball glove. Want to buy it?”
“No, thanks.”
“I’ll tell.”
“How much?”
“$750.”
A few days later, the father says to the boy, “Grab your glove. Let’s go outside and toss the baseball!”
“I can’t,” the boy replies. “I sold them.”
“How much did you sell them for?” the dad asks.
“$1,000,” the boy proudly announces.
“That’s terrible to overcharge your friends like that,” the father says, shocked. “That is way more than those two things cost. I’m going to take you to church and make you confess.”
At church that Sunday, the father alerts the priest, makes his child sit in the confession booth, and closes the door.
“Dark in here,” the boy says.
The priest replies, “Don’t start that sh*t again.”
Well that was meant to be a smiley face.
It was cool. I can’t get WP to accept a blank post.
I’ve seen that tree – – I just didn’t want to spend $10 to drive through it.
‘It’s just that, as a business model, as public policy, The
Singularity is a disastrous way to think. It’s “bullshit” in the
dark-side sense that it allows you to do all kinds of awful crap,
that you can “justify” by saying, “Donald Trump?! I thought we’d
all be downloaded cyborg immortals by now!” It was a way to
jettison ethical, legal, moral and civilizational implications by
pointing at an exponential graph and saying, “never mind, tomorrow’s
Oz.” No, tomorrow isn’t Oz. Tomorrow’s always now, if you wait
long enough.’
I look at how the far right has now spent over 2 decades developing their weaponize propaganda and how the other side clings to their “principles” believing if they just wait them out, it will all return to “normal” I wonder …
– How long does something have to go on before we humans accept that it is has transitioned from “aberrant” behavior to “the NEW social norm”?
Like with Betamax, when do you finally give up fighting to get the public to “come to their senses” and instead just move on to develop something totally new and different?
Meryl Streep’s speech was eloquent and beautiful and smart and 100% right. And shot like this just fires up the orange elect and his followers — and it will get him reelected.
I agree with this 100%. It’s not the most popular view right now and probably won’t be here, but it’s the truth and I do believe it’s why he got elected.
Morning Pan
Went to the community association AGM yesterday and I learned two things.
1) The property manager was very lickable.
2) People are stupid.
Silliness from last night:
Synopsis by speaker: This is a community association meeting, not a condo association meeting. There are about 850 houses that make up our community. Community fees must be paid if you want to vote.
Person raises hand: I didn’t see anything in the mail asking for payment of community fees. When do we get these? (reasonable question)
Speaker: Where do you you live?
Person: Such and such condo complex
Speaker: All the condo associations pay the community fees on your behalf. These are then part of your condo fees. Everybody currently at the meeting signed in and was verified they are eligible to vote.
Different person: I don’t live where the last person is, when will I get my bill.
Speaker: Where do you live?
2nd person: Such and such condo complex (different than first person but still condos)
Speaker: You won’t get a bill. Your condo association pays the fee. Everybody here has been paid up.
Speaker goes on to talk about what the fees cover.
3rd person: How do we pay the fees?
Speaker: where do you live?
3rd person: yet another condo complex (there are three condo complexes in our community)
me: face palm
Lucky you didn’t have a gun, if only to make some noise.
That reminds me of the time I went to a City Council meeting.
It was different subject mater but the EXACT same scenario played out. There was even a guy who lived 45 minutes outside of the city and came to whine about a City Council topic that had absolutely zero bearing on him. It was just that he had a microphone, a captive audience and by golly he was going to be heard for his 5 minutes.
I had 2 epiphanies …
(1) I now knew why the City Councilpersons I had personally meet were so stupid (it was a survival mechanism).
(2) The best thing I could do for my community and the human race in general was to lob a grenade into that meeting hall.
I never went back to another meeting.
Today I went crazy and added some rosemary to my egg.
Okay I’m curious now, what is the name of this device so I can do a search on Amazon?
The bed was wam and snugglie, I really didn’t want to get out of it and face the -26C day
I’m hubbyless this evening.
Well now we know who wears the pants in the Rhettro household.
Thankfully everyone, when we’ve been there.
Really?
The Rhettro household is a pants free zone.
Pants optional maybe?
We can dance if we want to?
Trousers
Which reminds of a old joke:
What the difference between the bottom half of of a tuxedo and a tired dog?
One is a set of trousers and the other just pants.
I vote for pantsless Wednesday
Might complicate Bunny’s situation as noted below.
Well, I have to go out into the brrr to check my mail.
The new tv is here! The new tv is here!
Excellent
Yes. You’ll get to see it when you come over
Let me know how you like it. On a somewhat tangential note, when we were at my folks over the holidays, we watched “Krampus” on their newer HDTV. It was only 1080P resolution, not 4k, but it had some sort of motion enhancement that increased the apparent 24 frames per second rate of the movie to 60 frames per second. While this is a superior spec, it had the effect of making the movie look like it was shot like a cheap soap opera (which are shot at 30 frame per second). If you google “soap opera effect” you’ll get a more detailed account of this. I believe the newer sets allow you to kick the frame rate down to give a more “film” look.
When I got a 4K tv I noticed that a lot of films looked ‘cheap’ on the TV.
I got used to it though.
Well I’ve turned off motion enhancement on the tv, lets see if the Dragon notices.
She didn’t notice.
CP: The Answer — Savages
I am listening to the same CD for the 3rd time today.
I get to the end and think, “I could listen to that again!”.
… and so I do.
I’m feeling the effects of peer pressure.
Perhaps it is just lunch.
Tyr taking a brisk walk.
Did you tell us which CD? Is it Kenny G’s Greatest Hits?
Will definitely be curious about what you think of this one. Previews look intriguing, at least.
That’s on the list of films I’d like to see right now.
also, “La La Land” and “Hidden Figures”
I’m waiting for Oscar nominee announcements to see those two as I probably will go to the Oscar Best Picture showcase this year.
Not a fantastic film by any means, but I enjoyed it.
If you dig musicals, then La La Land is a lovely film. The music was really quite good – – especially the main recurring song, that Van points out was either accidentally or intentionally modeled after a song from Her.
Interesting that neither of the leads are stellar singers, but they both do very well with the material.
Happy Friday 13th Deadpan
My black cat crossed my path about 20 times this morning. Should I open an umbrella under a ladder now?
Move to England, that susposed to be lucky over here.
I have a question for the Denver branch. A friend at work is traveling to Denver, staying the night in a hotel by the zoo, and then moving on to Breckenridge for the rest of their vacation. He would like to hit a few breweries in Denver while he’s there overnight. Are there any specific recommendations for him? Maybe someplace he could take an Uber and then walk from brewery to brewery?
BTW, I did think to tell him he needs to go to Breckenridge Brewery while he’s in Breckenridge.
I’d take an Uber to Great Divide and then walk to Jagged Mountain and maybe even Wynkoop. There’s also the downtown Breckenridge near there. Really, have him take a look at the ballpark district. There’s not only breweries there but beyond excellent tap houses. For the best in number of taps and quality, I’d recommend Falling Rock and Freshcraft.
Really the thing about Denver is while there are mass quantities of breweries, not a lot are grouped together. That’s why I’d just recommend he stick to the ballpark area if he’s there for a night.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. I’ve passed the info along. Not I can stew in jealousy that it’s not me going there.
Last night we put the new tv on it’s stand. Then we just watched some normal tv without doing any set up and such.
This morning I set up the tv, registered it, and synced it with NetFlix. I also changed my NetFlix to a 4k streaming account.
Tonight we will get a proper view of our new TV in all its 4k glory.
I think it is time we demonstrated the full power of this television.
8(
That’s no moon!
jealous
Since we’re on the subject of the Denver area, I have a question for our Colorado friends.
What do you think of the Golden area?
Do you know any one who went to the Colorado School of Mines?
My BF from Kindergarten went to Mines. Golden has become a really cool and desirable city but you could never afford to live there.
They are supposed to have a very well respected engineering program at Mines.
School of Mimes would seem more fun.
Yeah that’s what my buddy did – Chemical Engineering. School of Mines is that school you wish you could go to but were never smart enough. It is exquisite resume fodder
Ah. Sweet.
One of the Deadpan Jr. Auxiliary has just received an offer of a Presidential Scholarship to Mines. That brings the cost down to just “expensive”.
Looks like there will be a trip out there in March to check the school out.
Nice!! Well done. School of Mines is way better than the School of Mimes. That just goes without saying.
You guys, I’m now co-author with Rich Catino on the official MetalAsylum.net Facebook page, so I’ll probably start doing publicity stunt silliness through that account. I might occasionally ask for help drumming up responses to MetalAsylum.net FB posts.
If you’re on FB, then we’d also appreciate your support of the page. Even if you hate all of the music. 🙂

Ugh now I have to follow that site even more. Christ.

If Jack promises to throw in some Spinal Tap references … I’m In!!
A move called “Grabbers,” ahead of its time in 2012.
Saw it when it came out. Very good.
Hey Pan
Had a silly “mom” moment yesterday. I was telling my Boo about our new tv. I said something along the lines of “it’s only eight inches bigger than our old tv. You wouldn’t think it wouldn’t matter but eight inches is a big deal”
She bust out laughing.
It took me a few minutes to figure out what was so funny. (she thought it was funnier when I didn’t know so she wouldn’t tell me)
*sigh* I see I taught her well about the gutter.
Cough!!
By the time you read this, it will be John Carpenter’s 69th birthday.
Are you feeling old yet punk? WELL ARE YOU?
You couldnt be bothered to quote a Carpenter film?
Bite me!
Morning Pan
Today we start on royalty calculations. Aren’t we excited?
Well, I’m not convinced that the new season of Sherlock was worth the wait. Episode 2 was great. 1 and 3 from last night….not so much.
Guys… I’m, sorry Obamacare is getting repealed. To be perfectly frank, however, I’m glad my family and I will still be ok since we still have insurance through the ACA….
Fark had linked that story, but there were some rumblings over it’s truthfulness. I have no doubt that there are some who don’t know it is the same thing.
Hmmmm….. let me ask Mike Coffman about it
Is the C in ACA for Communist?
The pleasure of realising someone has been screwed by voting for something in ignorance is tempered by the possibility you are equally screwed.
I sort of look at it that way but in reverse … someone has screwed me but it is quite probable that I will have the satisfaction of seeing those who did it, get theirs first.
Interesting interview about the Hall of Heavy Metal History. I love how the interviewer is trying to delicately ask “Why Rudy Sarzo??” – – But I thought the interviewee guy in charge handled it well.
A non-spoiler comment on Rogue One (Has every one of the regulars here seen it now?).
I found a lot of the actions scenes blurry and/or darkly lit – – until the final stuff on the beaches. It could be that my eyes are really that bad these days – – but it just seemed like there was a lot of CGI fuzziness. The focused shots were clear, but a lot of the movements were not.
Anyone else? Is my vision just getting like Chirrut’s?
I actually didn’t notice anything fuzzy. Both times this happened?
“didn’t notice anything fuzzy”
Rhett will be here all weekend ladies and gents!
No Ewoks.
First time, I thought it might have been because we were seeing it in 3D, kinda close to the screen.
Second time though, it was standard view, from a normal distance. Again, close-ups and still shots were fine. Action on TV at home later was fine.
Maybe I am just becoming Mr. Magoo.
” we were seeing it in 3D, kinda close to the screen”
Trying to live up to Lo Pan’s expectations.
This’ll be Rhett’s last night, ladies and gents…
“This”
Rhett will be happy to refund all your money, ladies and gents!
How quickly the crowd turns on you.
I be able to float your Edge of the Empire characters a loan.
My life seems to be in order, so I think I’ll book my flight today.
Ok. If I book on Delta, with one stop in Minneapolis- St. Paul, What kind of regrets would I have?
Would I be better off waiting another month or so to book? I know they say you should only book three or four months out for best prices but I also know others will be booking flights to see the eclipse.
Minneapolis was one of the safer transfer areas when I used to book travel. More of their flights stayed on schedule and it was a small enough airport you could change planes easier.
Also, NASA says the eclipse is on the 21st, which is the Monday. Should I be staying until Tuesday?
So i have no idea what to expect, but I do know I’m in on a press pass to cover what should be a pretty historic event:

For the Facebook impaired, the long awaited sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog has made it’s way to Netflix:
So much fun…and yes, it’s only a figurative sequel, not a literal one…which will make more sense once you’ve seen it.
Are you on the square
Are you on the level
Are you ready to swear right here right now
Before the devil
My quick unofficial review: it was a pretty great mess. The Dio Disciples only played 4 songs, but they were still the highlight of the evening.
Watched Watchmen for the first time since I saw it at the flicks yesterday.
Still enjoyed it, still think it one of Zack Snyders better films.
Although this was still the theatrical cut.
Who watches you watching the watchmen?
I have never seen any other version. It was definitely a well-made film, but the one big change from the book is unforgivable.
The ending?
The end in the film works better for me than the one in the comic book.
While I don’t disagree, (really, a big squid?), it was still a big change for any die hard fans.
The other big difference was the Black Freighter subplot wasn’t in the movie.
I would have liked to seen the original ending, but I don’t know how it would have worked on film. The movie was already pretty long and they would have needed the footage of all the special effects people working on the squid to pull it off. Given the time constraints it may have been for the better to leave it out.
The Black Freighter sequence is added in the ultimate cut edition of the film.
Yeah. I’ve heard people say they preferred the film ending, but I was severely disappointed with the change. I’d said as much on Deadpan back in the day. The giant squid is bizarre, but was also a seriously iconic image. Years after I’d first read the book, that was almost the only thing I remembered.
Do Watchmen Dream of Electric Squid?
The original ending was dumb, a nuclear war would still have started (the Russians hadn’t lost any people At that point). So yeah, new ending is preferred.
No, you’re dumb!*
*(Actually, you’re not dumb at all. I do wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment of the original Watchmen ending, though.)
Morning Pan
Back to royalty calculations. *sigh*
This is why we don’t have a queen here.
😆
Well had the neck artery scan today, told they were fine.
I agree that her role can be recast if she has a prominent role in episodes 8 and 9. I disagree with her comment about the gold bikini. Yes it was titillating, but Leia wasn’t defined by the slave role Jabba assigned her and that led ultimately to his undoing. I think there’s a feminist subtext to that.
Perfectly said.
I always felt like they operated as a team on Han’s rescue–although certainly with kickass Jedi Luke as the star player. All of them we’re in distress and needed the others’ help at some point. She was way more active and way less helpless than her love interest Han.
Still, I like everything else the article said about Leia.
Back to waiting for information mode.
Seriously, I could finish these in half the time if I just had all the information I needed when I started.
I have to watch this later – – it appears to have been filmed from right where I was sitting. And it appears they caught plenty of the crazy dancing guy.
??? Your secret identity?
Seriously. Watch that guy. If that isn’t the purest happiness, then I don’t know what is.
Last night I played my first game of “Cards Against Humanity”.
WOOT!
Hope it won’t be my last.
One of the best songs/videos I’ve seen/heard in a long time. And really, it’s only mildly Satanic… then again whoever writes this band’s simply amazing hooks HAS to be in league with devil.
Has “Super Glue” ever actually stuck to anything other than human skin?
Time to break out the white coat and find out, be scientific.
Oh great. Now THAT is stuck to my fingers.
I mean SERIOUSLY!
The super glue I applied to some heat shrink tubing a half an hour ago has STILL not hardened … however the bits that got on my fingers dried in SECONDS.
I thought it was intended for dangling from steel girders.

That is truly terrifying.
Having spent the afternoon failing to fix even one cable, I am putting away my tools and going to watch TV.

Just a Trump to the left . . .

Time to pretend to work.
Looks like we got a dusting of snow last night.
Crap joke for the day:
A woman in a jewellers is admiring a big diamond ring, as she leans in a for a closer look a little fart slips out.
Hoping no one noticed she asks “how much is this ring?”
The jeweller replies “madam if you farted just looking at it, you’ll shit yourself when I tell you the price!”
I don’t want to find an appropriate coat image.
Royalty reports are in for review. :w00t:
Call it a hunch, but I think the eighth Star Wars film will be titled “The Last Jedi”.
I call it “just announced” 😛
That’s pretty catchy as well.
I understand the next Beverly Hillbillies film will be called “The Last Jed.”
Thanks everyone for your hugs. They were felt yesterday, for sure.
There. I cleaned my office, my desk, the kitty litter, gathered the garbage (tomorrow’s garbage day, and washed the cat’s water dish.
Well Deadpan, you can’t say I didn’t warn you.
It’s movie time
Today’s movie is Beware the Slenderman
The PVR write up: The myths of a faceless, digital-agebogeyman known as Slenderman was created on the internet, but his influence was felt in the real world when two 12-year-old girls lured their friend into the woods for a brutal murder
Add a full two hours, this is actually quite long for one of these movies
Wait, this is a documentary? How can I poke fun at something that is real?
double checked on IMDB right now, and it really is a documentary. Go figure.
Oh well, *shrug*’ it’s the only thing I’ve got recorded so I’m going to go forward with it. Since it will be the first time I’ve done a pbp on something real, Be aware my comments be not be appropriate for this type of program, in both PC and subject matter
This whole thing better not be in first person. I hate movies like that
Waukesha, Wisconsin
I’ve been on the creepy pasta website. It’s quite cool
Yeah, I’d heard of this event, although I didn’t know there was a documentary.
My parents were fans of her show. “Kid, you got spunk. I hate spunk”
RIP.
I’ve always admired her. RIP MTM.
As a kid I liked her shows. She made me laugh. As an adult, watching old Dick VanDyke shows … I really gained an appreciation for how talented she was as a comic “straight man” to Mr. Van Dyke.
This is sad.
Ok. I’m too into this to do a pbp. It’s different when it’s reall. Will probably just watch.
However, if you you are into that kind of thing, I do recommend going to the creepy pasta website. Some of their creatures are, indeed, creepy

Ummm, rips Neuromancer off a bit doesn’t it?
Actually I say a bit, it rips Neuromancer off a lot.
Definitely, but so has every Cyberpunk film ever created. I haven’t seen it since the 90s, but I recall a bunch of philosophizing and deep thinking while the naked main character jumped around and kicked asses.
My base thought was, why has she got breasts when her down below is as featureless as a GI joe doll.
Actually I Thought Action Man, but you being American and all that, I found the nearest thing.
We have Action Man here too you militarily bigoted fascist!
I had a tall GI Joe and and bunch of the series that launched the cartoon, but I don’t recall Action Man – – I can’t say I’ve ever heard of him.
Although without junk, I guess “No-Action Man” would be a more appropriate name. . .
Chill Von Clink, you got my point.
I remember there was some “Action Man” toys available around 2002, I know because Levi had some as a young boy.
It may “rip off” Neuromancer quite a bit, but it is still different and original enough. Plus, there’s been a lot more sequels for GitS that I think it is an enjoyable enough franchise in its own right.
I’m not really excited for the live-action version
Apparently someone (or some ones) at the US Park Service are having none of it.

Here’s a question.
I have an above the stove microwave/vent. The microwave just died. How hard will this be for me to replace? Would I be better off just giving in and calling… an appliance person? A contractor? Related question: Who would you call on something like this?
I don’t think it would be too hard to replace.
I base this on having installed one 20 years ago so …
Ok. I’ll do a you tube search on the weekend and see what’s involved
… or J0e can come over and replace it for me 😉
Aren’t you having friends over this weekend? Microwave installation sounds a helluva lot more fun for a group than some stupid board game.
!!!
If I were nearby I would so do that for you!
I’d recommend a handyman to install it. Although it isn’t that complicated, there’s a wall bracket that holds up your unit. And that bracket spacing may not be standard. Save yourself the headache and hire someone. 🙂

Often when I see lists organized this way, I won’t even bother clicking through.
So I have been listening to a lot of “Be Good Radio – 80’s Punk Rock” the last week or so … and I am trying to figure out exactly why I like it. ???
Generally speaking (there are always exceptions) the musician ship is not so great, mostly “garage band” quality. The exceptions (like The Clash, or Elvis Costello) who have either good musical chops or good production or both … tend not to have “good” singing voices. They might be better described as having a “style”.
So why does it entertain me? Well, a lot of it is “bouncy”. It tends to make you want to move (or slam dance). I think that a lot of it has a sort of honest, from the heart, little guy striking out against hopeless odds and “just don’t care” sort of feal.
Maybe.
I still can’t precisely put my finger on it though.
An astoundingly interesting topic with so many possibilities. I’ve often wondered about it from a similar perspective. There seems to be something about a raw and unpolished feel that seems to appeal to me. I find it manifesting itself most often as liking earlier works by specific artists. When they are young and (at least in theory) not as polished or refined as musicians, I really like their music. As the artists age and their music becomes more technically refines, I find I often like it less.
There is a good chance that I’m confusing transitions from what I feel are raw and unpolished work to more polished is really just a transition in the style of the music that the artist plays. For example, Billy Joel and Elton John are great examples where I like their earlier work better and their styles changed quite a bit over the years.
Agreed. Over-production and/or grandiose displays of virtuosity can be enjoyable to listen to, but that kind of thing almost* always feels like a sterile product from a bunch of workers, rather than a heartfelt work, crafted by an artist.
It seems to happen to most artists who hit huge popularity as they get older. Billy Joel’s timeline def shows that, but I think Sting’s career trajectory may be the best example of that gradual slide from raw, brilliant creativity to slick, bland output. I wouldn’t even say he sold out – – his edge just dulled (mostly. Aging Sting has still created some great stuff).
*The truly greatest virtuosos manage to deliver the power and feeling with their technical mastery: Satriani, Pavarotti, Loomis, Wooten, to name a few.
Yeh. Thanks guys. That might be onto something. Certainly part of it.
While I certainly like some of the work of Sting, when I listen to it, I don’t feel like he is me. That is, I feel like there is sort of an invisible wall between us. I can’t imagine I’d ever find him hanging out in the same bar as me.
When I listen to a lot of this Punk Rock I can imagine almost any of them as having hung out in the same paces I did at one time. Just another guy or girl, except they put together a band.
While we are talking music, please please do yourself a favor and check out Roky Erickson and the Aliens’ masterful 1981 record “The Evil One”. I told Jack this and I stand by it… he’s psych-rock’s version of Devin Townsend. Brilliant
Dammit! So many great roles. 77 isn’t a bad run, though.
Well, I got to spend the afternoon doing my least favorite activity – shopping for a vehicle. Our eldest turns 16 in a few more months and we’d like her to take the driving test in the car she’ll actually be driving. Took a couple of hours of wrangling to get an acceptable deal, then a few more for paperwork, but I’m now the proud owner of a well appointed and rather peppy Ford Focus. I think my daughter will even let me drive it on occasion 🙂
She’s gotten renewed motivation to continue with driving practice and getting her license. She’s excited, so it was worth it.
Though, looking at what it’s going to cost to add her as a driver on the insurance, I think I could probably get her chauffeured everywhere by Uber for less each year…
Or you could have her become an Uber driver to help pay for it.
Seriously, that’s a big deal, and awesome of you to help her out. Fifty years from now, she’ll be telling stories about this car.
I applaud the choice of “peppy and responsive” over “big hulking armored vehicle” I am a fan of putting them have a vehicle that can perform avoidance maneuvers without loosing control.
Did you go with “new” or did you accept that she will be in a school parking lot full of new, hormone addled, easily distracted, teenage drivers and go with something slightly depreciated?
So, it looks like everyone will be getting the same thing from their Deadpan Secret Santa for this year:
“Here’s a look at the gorgeous red gown costume designer April Ferry created for Lo Pan’s unwilling brides:”
ahh, “Lo Pan’s unwilling brides”

Yeah, The sequel isn’t as shocking.
Only saw the first once, and that was in the theater, but there were a number of unforgettable moments. It’s a great film, but the disturbing parts make it hard to want to rewatch in full.
There’s only one real shock as far as I’m concerned in the original that I have a hard time rewatching. Otherwise that’s one of my all time fav films and eminently rewatchable
Morning Deadpan
I’m glad I’m Canadian this morning.
That orange thing doesn’t represent us.
I was gonna say. The vast majority of Americans don’t represent the feelings of one man.
Oh, I didn’t think that, especially when it comes to this crowd and other Americans I know. The point was more, I’m glad I live in a country who’s leader is a little more level headed.
I remember those days here as if it was literally 2 weeks ago…
How about this: We’ll trade you Trump, Pence, and a first round draft pick for Trudeau.

Given recent events I thought it was time to bring up this report from the “Cato Institute”. Their study was published back in September. Feel free to share – https://www.cato.org/publications/policy-analysis/terrorism-immigration-risk-analysis
“The chance of a US citizen being killed by a refugee in terror attack on US soil: 1 in 3.64 billion.”
… and you thought that “winning the lottery” was a long shot!
Everybody has a 1 in 2000 chance of just dropping down dead everyday, just to put that CATO figure into perspective.

Wow, Facebook is depressing. Everyone is eagerly being baited into a Right vs. Left ideological war. As if that’s the the real problem. *smh*
The real damage is done when all parties are looking the opposite way of this President.
I’m so with you on this. It gets harder to scroll through facebook every day. I might just have to take a hiatus until shit calms down a bit. All I really want is to see pictures of my grand kids, but my son is one of those caught up in the storm. Grrrr.
I’ve been making a point to go to FB less and post more here. I swear every other line in my FB feed has to do with Trump. Ugh.

So obviously, the language is super NSFW, but it’s also the (possibly upopular) message everyone needs to hear.
“The Democrats have gone from the party that protects people to the party that protects feelings.”
Hey guy, don’t you know it’s becoming super uncool to talk politics on FB and blogs like this now? You know, places where you can at least relieve a little stress about these trying times? Yeah, yeah “no one” wants to hear it anymore….
ugh.

Agreed.
Morning Pan
Today is about as exciting as any other day.
Viva la aburrido!
What kind of burrito did you have?
A One filled with boredom.
Oh that’s not as good as carnitas
I think the current political events are hard to stay silent about (even Bunny made a political comment the other day!).
I never want to direct conversation, and I want everyone to always feel free to vent their Drumpfstrations (or any political feeling they may have), but I’d agree with the preference to keep the tone from getting too “Crossfire!”
That’s the point of my above comment tho. There’s starting to be a contingent of people semi-shaming their FB friends or blogs they follow for voicing their political frustration. If you don’t like it, skip it. That’s what I say.
I am seeing this as well.
While it is true I have a limited sample to go by … the bulk of the “Can we not stop talking politics” folks that show up on my screens are the same one’s who passed along every fake Hillary news item that came along. NOW they suddenly want to remove politics from FB.
Yet now more than ever it is important to pas, the farther down the slope we slide.
I wonder if there will be any Force mysticism in this one. There probably shouldn’t be, since he was a Force doubter for most of his life.
This is the first time I have honest to god doubts about a Star Wars film. I’m really REALLY hoping they go fo goofy buddy smuggler comedy.

Enjoyed some poutine last night! As my stomach today can attest.

Q: What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy?
A: I don’t know and I don’t care.
The best, snarkiest, most sarcastic rock article I’ve read
Roaming Asshat said something like this in his FB feed.
(It’s more about positive, healthy use of social media)
This is exactly what I was talking about earlier. I got real mixed emotions here. There’s no need to go and call folks out and say that you’re gonna unfollow them when you can simply unfollow them an no one would be any the wiser.
Thank you for posting the article Jack. And I would like to apologize to Lo. I think the article states exactly what I was trying to get at. I was not trying to call anyone out or shame them for expressing their political views. I’m not about censuring anyone. I even left the comment to my post from a friend of a friend that I don’t even know saying “good riddance”. It’s his opinion and I respect it. But please understand that while there are people that need to be able to vent about what is frustrating them (i.e., politics), it’s also necessary for others to vent about what is frustrating them (e.g., watching their closest family and friends spouting vitriol at each other). I’m not saying you were spouting vitriol in your particular posts. Just that I had a lot of it going on. So, please accept my apologies and continue to post as you see fit on Facebook. Use it to vent your frustrations and do so with no feelings of shame directed from me. That was never my intent. But, let me vent my frustrations as well.
Omg NO need to apologize! Like I said I understand your position 100% and I know how I feel as well (obvious statement). It’s me trying to come to a happy medium and I don’t think there is one. See and that above statement of mine was just more political frustrations being vented. Sick of it I say!

TIW: A Monster Calls
Yes it’s a weepie but a well done about a young lad coping with his dying mother.
Is it a weepie horror?
The previews reminded me of Iron Giant in a way.
Not really since the Monster is trying to save the young lad.

I would be curious to know as well.
MCI is our only airport
Yeah, I think we had this conversation on here before.
No direct flights to Kansas 🙁
Tell me about it, no direct ones from the U.K.
So, what you’re saying is I better not complain about a 5.5 hour travel time? 😉

Hubby went to work today after the two week break to find his computer is missing. He’s not a happy camper.
Got a message from hubby. IT took his computer to do something to it. All is good. Whew.
My hubby is also returning to work today.
He is *definitely* not a happy camper
What’s that supposed to mean? I’m fine going back to work today after 11 days off! Why wouldn’t I be a happy camper about that? God!
Exactly.

I guess I have another arkward question to ask.
Is this the part where we guess what you question is to save you from the embarrassment of asking?
Well I did a little research and it appears that genital warts can
appear on the following areas:
penis
scrotum
groin
thighs
inside or around the anus
Apparently they can be irritating to men, but women should seek the advice of a doctor.
Yes! That would help.
But not those.
Ah, it was worth a shot.
Rhett’s response is far funnier than mine would have been.
Do you need to do an awkwardness dry run in email first? Or do you just want to open the trenchcoat here?

Great minds…
The end.
Ummm, ok.

I think I just confused a friend by commenting that karate chops seem to common in 60 and 70’s in fight scenes in the 60’s and 70’s.
Out of fashion these days.
Action films should be in there somewhere.
and in Captain Kirk’s fight scenes.
Karate chops and mutton chops seem to follow the same cinematic timeline.
The same can be said for Lamb Chop.
I think post Hong Kong Phooyee, the karate chop quotient went way down in my life.
Just don’t confuse your Karate chops with your Ninji chops or Judi chops.

In honor of Tolkien’s Twelve-ty-fifth birthday:
_______________________________
“The Stone Troll” is a poem composed by Sam Gamgee and recorded in the Red Book of Westmarch.[1] Sam recited this poem when Aragorn and the hobbits were resting[2] in the shade of the trolls who had been turned into stone during Bilbo Baggins’ adventure with the Dwarves.[3]
The Poem
Troll sat alone on his seat of stone,
And munched and mumbled a bare old bone;
With the shank or the shin o’ my father’s kin;
So hand the old bone over!
Rover! Trover!
Though dead he be, it belongs to he;
So hand the old bone over!’
‘For a couple o’ pins,’ says Troll, and grins,
‘I’ll eat thee too, and gnaw thy shins.
A bit o’ fresh meat will go down sweet!
I’ll try my teeth on thee now.
Hee now! See now!
I’m tired o’ gnawing old bones and skins;
Tom’s leg is game, since home he came,
And his bootless foot is lasting lame;
But Troll don’t care, and he’s still there
With the bone he boned from its owner.
Doner! Boner!
Troll’s old seat is still the same,
And the bone he boned from its owner![4]

It’s a week filled with Star Trek geeky goodness.
The program kills me every time I look at it: http://2017.startrekthecruise.com/media/STTC17_Schedule.pdf

And those who aren’t clicking – – what other Trek notables will be onboard?

So I’m sitting in MacDs after seeing Passengers.
Ok, the plot is dumb but the whole film could have been less icky if both main characters had woken up due to a fault in the hibernation pods.

Unfortunately we can’t make it for the Feb 3 event but will go on another day
http://www.sparkscience.ca/experience-telus-spark/events/startrek/
Don’t wear red when you go.

So back from seeing ‘Why Him’ at the flicks.
Yeah, laughed a few times.

Rated PG.
Huh.

Ep 1 of Man in the High Castle S2 under our belts. Good, but a lot of struggling to recall stuff from S1.

I never watched the US Office so no distractions for me.

– How long does something have to go on before we humans accept that it is has transitioned from “aberrant” behavior to “the NEW social norm”?
Like with Betamax, when do you finally give up fighting to get the public to “come to their senses” and instead just move on to develop something totally new and different?
From a friend:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/313294-meghan-mccain-this-meryl-streep-speech-is-why-trump-won
I was wondering of point 1 was a typo.
2 must not have been a big surprise.
Point 1 was not a typo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rYoRaxgOE0
Is it connected to “the Internet of things”?

Too much lovey dovey stuff on that sight.
La La Land was such a beautifully-filmed movie. Who else here has seen it?

Already said my quip on the film.

This is sad.
Ok. I’m too into this to do a pbp. It’s different when it’s reall. Will probably just watch.

An excuse to repost this!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-uyWAe0NhQ
Almost like there’s a Fortress Around Your Heart?

Viva la aburrido!

Thanks!
While traveling back from Dallas, we were making up alternate lyrics for “Living on a Pray”.
Some contenders…
“Whoa.. bought this poster of Cher.. whoa.. living in a Fair.”
“Whoa.. eat that funnel cake with care.. whoa.. living in a Fair.”
“Give your hand, I’ll mark it with a square.. whoa.. living in a Fair.”
..sorry.
Whoa, there’s cotton candy in your hair.
Whooooooa I’m almost there. Whoa oh. Someone pull my hair.
Whoa… got this tat on my derriere… whoa… things that make you stare.
Whoa… hiding under the stair… whoa… living with a bear.
Whoa. . . don’t go in there. . . whoa oh. . . bathrooms at the fair.
Whoooaaaa who took my chair? Whoa oh, it was made especially for my back problems.
No wait…
RIP.

Ok. 67 these days is young. Although I can’t imagine what the 70’s did to him
Morning Deadpan
My mouse is acting up. I may have to replace it. I think it didn’t like it when I spilled water on it the other day.
Threaten it with the cat.
Looks like we had a little more snow over night
The Han movie is in production

I wonder if there will be any Force mysticism in this one. There probably shouldn’t be, since he was a Force doubter for most of his life.
This is the first time I have honest to god doubts about a Star Wars film. I’m really REALLY hoping they go fo goofy buddy smuggler comedy.
It doesn’t matter if it is the shittiest movie since Weekend at Bernie’s 3, I’ll still go see it. Lord help me if I go see it a second time if it is. (I still might)
*we find out that Han was friends with Chewie because he was in a relationship with his sister.)
Chewie and Han’s or Han’s and Chewie?
The Smuggler Shaves Her Back: A Star Wars Story
Chewie’s sister.
As well as enjoying the anime Erased, I loved the theme tune, this is a video of the band performing the song (quite a crowd):

Kevin J. Anderson said on his FB feed that it’s still in the planning process. . . This could actually be a new story set in the Dune universe, instead of another go at the original novel.
Whoa… got stuck with a gom jabbar.
No you Muad’Dibn’t!
The news just said bacon demand is starting to outweigh supply and the reserves are at their lowest rate in 50 years. This bacon fat has got to end soon or we will run out 😉
Time to get back to “makin’ bacon”.
For goodness sake think of the poutine.
Enjoyed some poutine last night! As my stomach today can attest.
Crap joke nicked from twitter:

New page! Go say it there!
