Hmm. I should consider upgrading to an iPad Pro so I can get Transistor. Great game and I love the soundtrack too.
CP: Paper Boats (feat. Ashley Barrett) — Darren Korb
It works fine on my iPad 4.
I have an iPad 3. Not supported, iirc.
Ah, I’m noticing a lot of the newer games are getting sluggish on the iPad 4.
I blame part of that on their multi-tasking design. It has a number of issues. I hope the newer hardware handles it better.
“Ship of Fools” is still relevant today.
Sadly.
Crazy on a ship of fools.
I was just thinking that about Fred Pohl’s The Space Merchants. Crazy how prophetic some authors were.
I was reading that Season 5 of “Person of Interest” may very well be its last. I’m both happy and sad about that.
CP: God Mode — Ramin Djawadi
I hope it can go out on a high, been a great series so far.
I agree. It was a stealth SF show at first. I never expected it to go in the direction it did, but it did it very well. “If-Then-Else” was one of the best episodes of TV I’ve watched. I can’t wait to see how they resolve the series.
I’m married to an introvert. I think I will hug him.
I saw that ages ago, reminded me of hunters trying lure in prey…
Lejon will be doing somersaults, Moffat is quitting Dr Who.
I saw that this evening. Should be an interesting change of pace, if nothing else. The new show runner is apparently the guy behind Broadchurch, which I thought was some excellent drama.
I think so too! I think Sly B is a bit burned out on superhero stuff. We’ve been watching S1 of Gotham slowly on Netlix + Agent Carter
I love Agents of SHIELD. I really do. From the last part of season 1 to now its been made of almost nothing but win. The way it smartly ties into the films, the strong female characters, the humor, the action… its ALL more than worthy in the Marvel universe let alone a fantastic show. Not many shows have me waiting with bated breath week after week to see what happens next.
I say the following statement knowing full well what Ive written:
Agent Carter puts it to shame.
I thought parts of season 3 were a bit shaky at first, but it all came together in the winter finale. I’m pretty happy with the show now. 🙂 I hope to watch the new Agent Carter on Sunday.
We aren’t caught up on SHEILD but wanna be
The new season is definitely off to a strong start, though I read the ratings were down from last year. But, a tightly definted “mini” series like this make the mid season break for Angents of Shield much more palatable.
Morning Pan
Today we buy a new doorbell for the back door and some de-icer for the sidewalk. Exciting times, I know.
I just went and shook some de-icer on the back patio. We had a good 1.5″ ice layer going. I need to burrow out to the grill because I’m smoking a pork shoulder tomorrow for football pig-outs.
See? Legalize marijuana and they’ll smoke anything in Colorado. I knew it was a slippery slope.
Racist
Statist surely?
Frictionist at the very least.
Saturday morning (coffee) drinkin yeah!!!!!!
We bought a new door bell. It plays MP3s. Hubby hasn’t decided what music he wants it to play. I have a feeling the sound will change regularly.
Second Chance would be far superior if they had gotten a more charismatic actor in the lead role.
Since every one clearly needs one more episodic show to add to their list …
I can recommend “The Detectorists” found on Netflix.
This American finds it VERY BBC so you may have to really concentrate to get some of the dialogue but it is a slightly bittersweet, fun little show. It also seems to be just one season so no long-term commitments needed.
Dear Ess,
How fucking good is ‘Dig Me Out’?

Dear Ess,
How much fucking better is ‘One Beat’? Fuck this band can do no wrong.

Dear Lo,

Fun night out with Chuck and Donna Tomasi! Pasty Co. followed by Sun Devils hockey.
A big Meh! On the new X-Files..well the first episode at any rate.
Chris Carter appears to have lost his ability to write plot rather than info dump and DD’s narration sounds as forced as HF’s narration in the original theatrical release of Bladerunner.
Hubby likrd it. I admit, the jury’s still out for me
I’m ignoring it. I have to many good shows that I like, so I don’t have any desire to return to a well run dry.
I am still curious. There is going to be some time to rebuild because face it, it has been some time and the audience has changed. X-files is part of our cultural lexicon now so our expectations are higher.
I must admit though that Gillian plays heartbreaking really well.
Its only 5ish episodes and its new X-Files. Theres no way Im not watching this let alone ignoring.
Just a clarification and/or reminder to all…
My friends *are* my Family- make no mistake about it.
And you people, are my friends.
So, there.
Ummm, what made you think we weren’t?
My fault. Sorry.
I fear me in a T-shirt and jeans may push it to breaking point…
No pressure or blame or faulting on anyone. . . the regulars here are close enough friends that we want you there for our big day. Life and circumstances happen, but we sincerely hope you can make it.
:cth: :jack:
Hubby took to long to load up music on our new doorbell. He’s getting the Imperial March.
If I do a quick sprint I can provide the heavy breaking.
breathing even.
So crappy SFX and outlandish clothing aside, I’m really enjoying rewatching Blakes 7 again.
I’m up to the third episode of S2 and looking forward to the next episode of ‘Down and Safe’ , a podcast where four writers are discussing the series one episode at a time.
You know, as these movies go, this one wasn’t half bad. My biggest complaint is the fact it was done as a “documentary”. I’m really tired of movies done from the camera’s pov
CW: New X-Files E2
Well a slight improvement but what the fuck is up with DD’s voice?
Second episode of XFiles damn sight better than the first. I will say this… for all its flaws so far it certainly feels like XFiles tonally and visually… I’m looking forward to the rest of this mini season
You mean you thought the first episode was not very good?
/gasps
Oh go ye olde fuck yourself
Ok, great!
I guess I need to go work with Soulier. I am also recently blocked… I’m here on my phone.
I’ve been having real problems with nuisance phone calls lately…… The most common one seems to be ……”You said you’d be home from the pub three fuckin hours ago!”
Sorry. Didnt realize my previous post interrupted a TEB PBP.
Sorry, Bunny!!
Sucks. Sucks sucks sucks. Deepest sympathy and empathy
Looks like the ratings for Agent Carter are shite.
Bugger..
That’s ok. Shows like this are made for Hulu and Netflix. Ratings be damned
CP: Love Me Like You – The Magic Numbers

CP: Whippin’ Piccadilly – Gomez
CP: Strange and Beautiful – Aqualung
CP: Love is the Drug – Oscar Isaac
From the Sucker Punch soundtrack..WTF!
I apologise for any silliness on my part today.
Still enjoying S2 of The Flash, but bloody hell sort that AI out, you know the one you’ve been ignoring all season..sheeesh.
Ok Im as anti-Trump as the next sane individual but all these comparisons to Hitler are just fucking stupid. Jesus Christ…
Member that one time Democrats freaked out when Obama was compared to Hitler? Yeah you cant have it both ways
Ah politics. The ignorant pointing fingers at the imbeciles. Or is it one zebra claiming to be black and calling the other zebra white?
Is it it about the singling out of one particular ethnic group? Cause yeah, that comparison is warranted.
But yes, every cycle we get dipshits comparing the guy they hate most to Hitler.
The rampant hyperbole bothers me. At best it’s a lazy way to to start a critique. At worst it robs all meaning from impassioned debate.
Morning Pan
Up, that’s what it is.
Well I have the next four days off.
Woot! In an understated way.
So I’m seeing a lot of mentions of B.o.B on my Twitter feed.
It’s a rapper that claims the EArth is flat.
However ever time I see him mentioned my mind jumps to that robot from The Black Hole..
I’ve liked all replys by Neil deGrasse Tyson to B.o.B.
Paraphrasing ” Just because your thinking hasn’t progress past the fifth century doens’t mean I still don’t enjoy your music.” LOL
NdeGT was on The Nightly show. He ended his rant with, “by the way, this is called gravity” and then dropped the mic. It was cute.
As a side note: I wonder if the rapper really thinks the world is flat, or is he doing the attention = sales bit. His name is now in the public eye more than it was so I do wonder.
B.O.B.’s popularity with the ladies was never about smarts.
Evil, Inc., amiright? Ugh. Major reshuffle happening today. I’ve been moved and promoted, but not sure I wanted this one.
Congrats?
Not to Texas I hope
Not physically moved, just on the org chart
I’m covering both bases
Congratulations EssBee!!! :w00t:
I’m sorry to hear you might have more work on your hands :ermm:
They’re cute now, but just wait. Soon they’ll grow up and want to play in the snow.
This is an impressive and extensive writeup. I’ve read some of these plays, but I’ve never seen any of the screen productions. I also don’t know the actual history all that swell.
Though, honestly, I’m not convinced that this was so much a cover up as a shrewd recognition that this level of detail would have mostly been rubbing salt in the wound.
It’s also absurd to seriously suggest that some escape system could have been designed for this scenario.
I did find the tone of that article to be a bit salacious, but maybe that’s just my emotional reaction.
Space age’s innocence was lost well before challenger, or do the Apollo 1 astronauts and Russian cosmonauts who died not count.
Point. (Although it could be said that a grade-school teacher hits a bit closer to home for most people than a career adventurer who lived that lifestyle, like Gus Grissom.)
I was reading about the Soyuz 1 cosmonaut that got killed. It seems he knew the new capsule design was screwed up and needed much more work but if he didn’t go up it was going to be Gagarin, so he went up into Space knowing there was a good chance he was going to die on that mission.
Life’s little ironies –
I was sitting in a “jury pool” on that day, NOT getting picked for juries and reading an article in OMNI magazines on deaths in space. Accidents that had happened and that with flights to space becoming a regular occurrence, statistics showed it would happen again. Summary – our space agencies/government need to have a plan in place for dealing with this.
That was when someone walked in the room and said “The Shuttle just exploded on take-off.”
No irony on my part. Just sadness. I was 15 years old and I was helping my grandparents clean their house (partly for the money, but mostly because I liked hanging out with my grandparents). I was really getting into astronomy at the time and it meant way more to me than it did to them. But, being good grandparents, they stopped everything with me so we could all watch it together. It was one of those situations like watching your kids get sick. I could tell that it hurt them far more to watch me suffering than what I could ever feel for the Astronauts or their families.
No of course they count. However I will say that (and this is to Jack’s point) space travel at t he time of Challenger was almost passe and taken for granted. To that extent this wake up call was a kind of end of innocence. Although Id argue something as complex as space travel really has no age like that
Indeed, the innocence boat had long sailed when former Nazi scientists were in rocket development:
I don’t know. I think it would look better in stripes.
I’m too old to get that quip.

At least I’m listening for the first time to a song called “Thunderhoof” by a band named “Conan.” If nothing else, at least I have that.
Had the misfortune of watching the Donner cut of Superman II for the first time tonite. What a fucking dreadful film. The sad thing is it’s still ages better than the original cut. Can anyone tell me why this film gets a pass? Its so very bad.
The original 2 films will always be treasured memories from my childhood. They were a distant 2nd to Star Wars, but Superman and Superman II were still the 2nd-greatest movies in the world to me.
I have never understood the praise for the Donner cut. Lois Lane shoots Clark Kent? WTF? It’s terrible. The theatrical release of the originals have their flaws, yes, but they’re still kind of magical, unlike this horrible edit.
I’d absolutely rather go back and watch Superman III than the Donner cut.
Remind me… does he WALK TO THE NORTH POLE IN JUST A JACKET AND PANTS in theatrical cut too?
That was mostly accurate before he made moronic “white power” jokes.
“joke”. Man the excuse he came up with is laughable. “We were drinking white wine and it was an inside joke”. Boo
So went to drop some stuff to a friend and find his house emptied and no signs of him.
wondering if he’s died since I saw him at New Year, his phone has been disconnected as well.
Very strange.
Found him at a pub, getting his house done and he’d disconnected his landline.
I find the pub is the best place to start to look form well, anything.
Was he in his bathrobe? If you’re Ford Prefect and there’s anything we ought to know, then please share.
Was this a stretch?
Have a beer.
Finally got around to seeing Ex Machina (now that Amazon added it to their Prime collection).
Quite the mind trip…
Featuring Poe Dancer-on.
AND General Hux
Well, fuck me! I recognized Oscar Isaac’s name at least, but still had to look him up to confirm that it was the same actor as Poe. Even knowing it was the same actor, it was still hard to wrap my head around.
Now Lo Pan goes and blows my head off that Hux was Caleb. That one didn’t even remotely register with me. Hell, I confirmed it on IMDB and I still am not sure I believe it.
Morning Pan.
Now that’s out of the way, it’s time to kidnap people

Just bought Ep1 of Horace and Pete, the new show starrung Louis CK and Steve Buschemi. Looking really forward to this one
Mad Max: Fury Road is epic. A fairly thin story wrapped in lots of awesome car chases and explosions. My boy and I were most pleased. The wife was meh on it, but such is life.
There’s a real reason its nominated for best picture.
I could really watch that movie and/or The Road Warrior every single day.
Hey, Deadpan!
First off: Condolences and hugs to Pixie.
Second of all: Got several different costuming and other creative projects in the works. Will definitely post here when I have major updates to report. But right now, :zzzzz:
Thank you, Amy. Please do share your creative stuff when ready!
And so you and I

If you like the works of Kurt Vonnegut, the audible version of ‘Breakfast of Champions’ is the daily deal on the US store today.
I’ve read it wasn’t as well received as SL5, but thought I would give it a try.
Haven’t see the film adaption starring Nick Nolte.
Was Nick Nolte in the Bruce Willis one? I liked the book, but was pretty meh on that movie. I guess there’s no good way to translate Vonnegut’s hand-drawn sketches of assholes onto film.
I got a phone call from a friend of mine. My nemesis passed away. My friend friend didn’t realize this person and I didn’t get along. He still doesn’t. I figured now was not the time to say the person who passed and I never really liked eachother.
But the big question really is, who am I going to hate now?
So it goes.
“Cirice” by Ghost B.C. is the song of the day.

Kitty and I are sharing some cottage cheese this for breakfast.
Have you informed her cats aren’t supposed to like cottage cheese?

Actually, there are a few incredible songs on that Ghost album.
There are a few good songs on the “Ghost Ship Octavius” album as well.

That’s called Magma. It’s how the Earth poops.

CW: The Magicians E3
The lass going to the dark side is a more compelling character than the bloody hero.
Still early days and all that.
I was just watching Ravenous last night and thought the same thing about the villain. Then again Robert Carlyle tends to play far more interesting characters than Guy Pearce in just about anything.
So the audible version of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell is 32 hours long, gulp!
That’s time well-spent.
Although I don’t know how an audiobook will handle all of the footnotes. There are a lot of them, and they’re a pretty big part of the experience.
The reading of Breakfast of Champions feels rather surreal..with John Malkovich have to describe the drawings including the ones of arseholes.
As much disdain I felt for the new X-Files season premier, the same amount of unbridled joy I felt for Episode 3
You felt disdain with the first episode.
/gasps
Yeah you’ve said that already
I’m still in shock.
Same here, except for the way the trams character was handled. I’ve loved all 3 eps
I probably shouldn’t have talked smack with the Kings fan at work today. . .
… and never DO smack with that bunch!
Elizabeth Banks is going to play Rita Repulsa in the new Power Rangers movie. Next week’s announcement will be that Danny Devito will play Andre the Giant in a bio pic. At least that seems like the next logical step.
We are slowly catching up on TV. I’ve given up on Colony after 3 episodes. I didn’t care about the characters. I’m about to give up on Blindspot. It’s overly contrived and the writing has too many *facepalm* moments. The hacker episode was ridiculous. The only smart thing they said was Python was better than Perl. 😉
I’m glad episode 3 of the X-Files is good. I might give it a chance On-Demand once it is over.
That hacker episode of Blindspot was infinitely more intelligent than the Scorpion TV series.
I agree. It was one-and-done for me with that show.

“Mike Huckabee has decided to end his presidential campaign but I think he should be forced to carry it to full term.”
Wacky political billiards humor on facebook today.
I honestly resent Apple’s imposition of their corporate product strategies over my preferred style of listening to music. If only they had a legit competitor in this arena.
More sabre rattling by RAND, who deserve to go the way of the dodo.
If the Russians were dumb enough to invade NATO countries , it’s irrelevant how quickly they can take the Baltic states, Nukes would be used, nuclear winter would be ushered in.
The video is superbusy with imagery and some vague story, which seriously distract from the beauty of the song. Cool, but I recommend getting to know it without the visuals first.
I don’t know what went wrong, or right, but I’ve gotten an amazing amount of work done so far this morning. It’s wonderful what you can do when nobody interrupts to ask you to do something else.

About 1:42 into the first song on my playlist for today, I had to stop to answer questions. At 4:40 in the afternoon.
I can’t listen to music at work as it requires putting on headphones which seem to act as a magnate for interrupting people. I’ll go an hour without someone talking to me. Put on the headphones and someone will be next to me in a matter of seconds.
Dammit, if Galavant doesn’t get a third season, then humanity is truly lost.
I agree. I love the fun silliness that is Galavant.
We were entertained by the guilelessly loud group of Japanese at Sleepy Dog tonight.

And — congrats Denver peeps on a Football championship.
I have a knack for getting the 2nd-highest score of the week. . . right behind my opponent.
I for sure thought that horsemeat was going to be served up this evening. Instead, it was (crying) jungle cats.
Good Job, Denver! now, no riots or shootings, please. You guys won.

What would we do without Mondays?
Moan about Tuesdays.
I don’t moan. I’ve said it before, I’m ok with Mondays. It’s usually the day I’m most refreshed and have the most energy to take on what’s next after a weekend of r & r.
But you enjoy your job, that makes a difference I can tell you.
I think hubby and I must have lower standards than most movie watchers. We saw The Last Witch Hunter on the weekend an enjoyed it. Sure, it wasn’t Oscar worthy, but it was an ok popcorn movie.
Master of None E3
Yeah, I ain’t laughing, but THAT guy sounds like the voice of Archer…
We finished the series last night – loved it.
I adore that show. And it is.
Entertaining and thought-provoking, if a bit of a stretch:
I had to mute the sound when Debbie was trying seduce the dying wife’s hubbiie.
Cringing!
Debbie is definitely the saddest part of that very-very sad show for me. Sly B had to quit watching, but I’m still hooked.
We had to stop watching for the same reason. We liked a bunch of the characters too much, to see them continually go through this crap with no hope of it ever getting better.
Sounds like a show custom made for a British audience.
Hah!
At least the original UK series got a musical episode.
On a related note, a friend of ours was watching something on NetFlix (I don’t remember what, it wasn’t something we watched), and they were playing D & D. He texted hubby and asked if we knew anything thing about this. To him it seemed less like a game and more like a group telling an adventure story. Hubby, of course, replied, “Yes!” Hubby’s been reading the 5th edition DM guide non-stop now, hoping to convince our friend to play D & D. It’s been a while.
I have a very serious question… How exactly does one kill a gress?
When it’s in egress?
hmmm, maybe. Hadn’t thought of that. I thought of changing it’s colour but there’s no y in it. Maybe, roll it around a bit?
JF: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Bloody hell that was a marathon of a listen, thank goodness for x2 playback, rather enjoyed that. Don’t think I would have ever finished the dead tree version, just don’t have the patience these days.
Have an urge rewatch the TV series now.
I enjoyed the book. I didn’t see the TV show, though. It didn’t seem to make it here to the GWN
According to the wiki, it was broadcast in Canada on The Movie Network and Movie Central channels.
I’m not much of a torrentor, so I’ll probably wait til the show arrives on Netflix.
He was a bit of an ass hat about the Soviet space exhibition, but I’m going to try and get a ticket.

Well ticket booked to see Deadpool tomorrow.
I didn’t hate the Green Lantern film, just saying.
So, some folks are trying to reboot Battlestar Galactica as a movie now? Next thing you know, they’ll try to remake Star Wars…
Ah nothing like a bunch of people waiting for the post credit sequence in Deadpool.
I enjoyed the film.
We’re hoping to see it next week.
I’ve heard there is more than one
Well more of a sequence split into 2.
They didn’t have the budget for a proper one..cough
Morning Pan
I miss my pillow already
Hubby’s being mean to me.
As I’ve said before, with the exchange rate, and the fact we have to put out about $15k in unexpected expenses this, I’m unsure about making it to Arizona this year. Hubby and I were talking and he’s telling me I should go anyway. We have enough points to fly one of us out, so he said he would stay home. I tell him $15k! He doesn’t care.
Since when did I become the practical one in this household?
I heard about the dismembered foot finds a few years ago on a podcast, it was creepy then and it’s creepy now.
There’s been a dozen or so in the last ten years. It’s come to the point were I don’t even notice when it comes on the news.
I blame Jaws. No, not that one. The one from Moonraker. 😉
Not the one from Mr. Mom?
So I have an audible credit to use and a book with an interesting premise to find.
I’m torn between Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson (whose works I tend find a bit dry) or Luna by Ian MacDonald (which is the start of a series which puts me off).
I’m partway into Embassytown by China Mieville and digging the language, but wondering where it’s going. He’s done this before, though, and the books turned out brilliantly.
I’ve put the decision off by buying an audiobook that was on sale.
A slice of cross dressing steampunk that is The Bulletcatchers Daughter by Rod Duncan.
I booked today off so I have a four day weekend. Woo hoo!
Sunday is Valentine’s Day.
Hubby and I don’t celebrate. I know hubby loves me, and most of the world knows I pretty much worship him. We don’t feel the need to feed some corporation to prove it.
I’m bleurgh to the whole thing.
Consume. Conform.
Went out to do a few errands this morning. The ground clouds are quite thick today
Van, what is a marmite book? I looked it up and, as far as I can tell, marmite is a sandwich spread. I couldn’t figure out how it relates to a book.
Marmite is rather infamous for polarised reactions to the taste (you’ll either love it or hate it).
I liked that book, but a lot of people didn’t like it for how homosexuals are treated by the Masquerade.
Ah. I’m enjoying the book so far, but I am only about 10% in. I took the way the Masquerade treats different sexual predilections as more of a commentary on today’s society. *shrug* The way people are treated fits in with the story so I haven’t taken issue.
Yup, personally I tend not to get emotional reactions to fiction plots.

The last I saw this film was on old style 4:3 TV and it was a pan and scan edition to boot.
This DVD edition seem is far too crisp to my jaded memories.

I re-watched Wolfen last night and had very similar thoughts about Albert Finney’s hair.
I love this aviation/space kick Van has been on
Well I’m on the returned ticket list for Buzz, so fingers crossed and all that.
Cool. Ill be sure to tell Dani as we are on our, probably, only night away from the kids on Valentines Day how we should really be worried about how we’re conforming as opposed to enjoying ourselves for one day.
Just remember to baaaa from time to time you conformist git.

If you want to enjoy VD, then I wish you a happy VD.
We went and saw The Lady in the Van Saturday. It was sweet and sad.
It’s official. Star Wars VIII started filming today. I can’t find the video they just showed on TV, but they were welcoming the stars back.
They also stated the DVD would release 4/6/2016 of SWVII
I just saw the Deadpool movie. Fantastic! But they used the term Asshats in the credits. I should send them a cease and desist.
The fiends!
If anyone is on the fence (and I seriously doubt anyone in this crowd is) go see Deadpool. I want to see more comic book based movies like this come hell or high water.
Huh… GHOST just won a grammy
So Deadpool was much better than I expected. So so many great jokes.
So so many kids in the theatre. Toddlers to tweens to young teens. WTF, parents??
Deadpool has nothing to do with Ghost. The Satanic band or the movie where Demi Moore has sex with Whoopi Goldberg while Patrick Swayze possesses her.
A small amount of smugness, as the film was given a 15 certificate on this side of the pond, so there was no young children at the showing I went too.
Shouldn’t children below a certain age not be allowed into an R rated movie even with parent’s consent? Isn’t that what PG is for? I suppose those idiot parents got what they deserved for ignoring the R rating. Then again, they’re probably the kind of parents that let their 10 year old kids watch anything they want on TV because they don’t want to have to stop themselves from watching it.
I got an entirely blank white page at that Ottawa link. . . . Which, if intended, was beautifully executed.
Considering the weather in Ottwa, the white screen is appropriate.
I’d first heard people talk about how in charming Ottawa, the businessmen would ice skate to work on the frozen canals.
Which sounds like something from a Danny Kaye movie, but I’m sure is not nearly as quaint in reality.
The skates for the canal can be found within a locker with the visage of a rocking chair. But, the gym bag painted with the form of a flag with a maple leaf has only shoes with slippery soles.
Got it… the locker with a rocker has the skates to get to the gates and the bag with a flag has a shoe that will cause a flu.
Ottawhat?? Brilliant!

I think it’s safe to post Star Wars stuff here now. . . JIC, don’t click if you haven’t seen ep VII.
A wacky but interesting theory on Rey’s true identity.
So now there are reports that Agent Carter has half the viewers it had for Season 1 and they are considering cancelation
The lead actress going for another role in a new TVs series was a bad sign.
My bad, you guys. I’ll start watching.
That’s ABC’s fault, not the shows. I wouldnt worry, this show is made for a Netflix run
You know about that river in Egypt right?
Not sure what the Euphrates has anything to do with this
Crap joke for the day:
A man joins a very exclusive nudist colony. On his first day there he takes off his clothes and starts to wander around.
A gorgeous petite blonde walks by, and the man immediately gets an erection.
The woman notices his erection, comes over to him and says, ‘Did you call for me?’
The man replies, ‘No, what do you mean?’
She says, ‘You must be new here. Let me explain. It’s a rule here that if you get an erection, it means that you called for me.’ Smiling, she leads him to the side of the swimming pool, lies down on a towel, eagerly pulls him to her and happily lets him have his way with her.
The man continues to explore the colony’s facilities. He enters the sauna and as he sits down, he farts. Within minutes a huge, hairy man lumbers out of the steam room toward him. ‘ Did you call for me?’ says the hairy man.
‘No, what do you mean?’ says the newcomer.
‘You must be new, ‘says the hairy man, ‘it’s a rule that if you fart, it means that you called for me.’ The huge man easily spins him around, bends him over a bench and has his way with him.
The newcomer staggers back to the colony office, where he is greeted by the smiling, naked receptionist, ‘May I help you?’ she says.
The man yells, ‘Here’s my membership card. You can have the key back and you can keep the $250 membership fee.’
‘But, Sir,’ she replies, ‘you’ve only been here for a few hours. You havent had the chance to see all our facilities.’
The man replies, ‘Listen lady, I’m 68 years old. I only get an erection once a month but I fart 15 times a day.
I’ll get you your trenchcoat.
Ep 5 of the X files was extremely divisive. I give it an A. Lots of folks gave it a C or D
I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t like the fact they perpetuated the stereotype.
That’s what most detractors are saying, but the fact is not all bad guys are white british males
I feel like I’m permanently behind the times. We just started season 3 of Arrow.
And eps 1-3 were terrible. I’m only hanging for the promise of Marc Singer later on this season. (No spoilers now).
I hate to break it to you, but it ain’t just the morning…
Ha!
Ye twat.
Shouldn’t you be masturbating to that new series of Vikings?
All over its face, neck, and chest, ye fack
A sticky situation.
Hubby expects to be bored tonight. I offered to send him jokes all night. He said yes. Anything to help.
If it wasn’t apparent, a certain manipulator in our lives has really upped the scale of their attacks. I’m still here for fun and links and snark, just bear with me.
I think hubby’s regretting telling me I could send him jokes all evening
He should have opted for a play by play…
Are you sending him Van’s Crap Jokes of the Day?
Read this as “Van Crap’s” at first. I think we all need to work diligently to get a product line somewhere named Van Crap’s.
I have a wardrobe full of it.
No. It was a school function so I had to keep them g rated. Never know who would be looking over his shoulder.
driveby//
Well hello Deadpan.
Track season has started and I am in neck deep.
Trying to sort out the same BS I have to sort out EVERY year.
Ptttthhhbt
//driveby
Shouldn’t it have been a runby instead of a driveby, if it’s the track team that’s got you so busy?
In the first paragraph the author already had me confused. At the second paragraph Wired threw up a screen at me blocking the article and bitching at me for using an ad blocker. Screw Wired Magazine. I already get enough paper junk mail from them trying to get me to subscribe. Their super, super aggressive sales model can rot in the 7th layer of hell. I don’t need any of their information that bad.
Hmmmm. Seems I’m in a bit of a snit this morning.
What I learnt this week:
Cyanide doesn’t taste of almonds, almonds taste of cyanide.
Did you do a taste test?
It was an author interview about her book on poisons. I was quite happy to trust her opinion on this.
So sitting at the flicks, waiting for Triple 9 to start, been a whilst since I’ve seen a heist flick.
For a number of reasons, this may well be my last deadpan meet up in person, so I’m looking forward to seeing all who can make it this year.
🙁
But! You’ll have done something most other Panites haven’t. Meet my hubby. Even if I do make it this year, he won’t be joining me.
Indeed, and I don’t want to sound melodramatic because I do enjoy visiting, but several negative things are coming together this year that may make future travel unaffordable.
Bummer travel news on both ends. 🙁
Altho a wedding with the solo Bunny present is certainly better than no Bunny at all.
“solo Bunny”
Oh and I will have to try that Chips, cheese and gravy dish when I’m in Canada.
Poutine. You can say it Van.
Although I’ve heard it’s more a Quebecois thing, I’m sure TEB knows for sure.
This could make you feel old. My friends and I all loved Ren & Stimpy when it came out – – but I haven’t seen it in years. I doubt if the show has aged well.
I could never get in to Ren & Stimpy
Cow and Chicken was very weird.
I’m quite the animation addict. The 90s cartoons were weird and wonderful. The whole era was what was needed to jump start the animation industry after the blah filled 80s animation such as Jem and the Holograms, Gummi Bears, He-Man, and Care Bears. Sure, there were a few gems in there (e.g., Danger Mouse, The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse). But overall that whole era was stale and lifeless. The 90s were when cartoons started to take chances again and not be afraid to get strange. I LOVE Ren & Stimpy and John Kricfalusi deserves a ton of recognition. But you could see the way starting to be cleared well before that. Just in writing this I started trying to think of gems from the 80s and one of them actually turned out to be early 90s odd-ball starters such as Tiny Toon Adventures. Let’s not forget how that show and many of it’s offshoots paved the way for the stranger stuff that came out later in the decade.
The original Dangermouse was from 1981, heck there’s even a 8bit game based on the TV series.
Which is what you said:
Doh!
Danger Mouse was awesome. I like the new Danger Mouse 2015, but it will never be as good as the old version. Just the way revived series work.
Oh crumbs… A new Danger Mouse? How could it possibly live up to my memories of the show I watched as a kid?
A lady walks into a pharmacy and says to the pharmacist, “I’d like to get some cyanide to kill my husband.”
The pharmacist says, “Sorry, it’s against the law. I could lose my licence and go to jail.”
The lady pulls a photo out of her purse. It’s a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.
“oh,” said the pharmacist, “you didn’t tell me you had a prescription.”
“often described as “Scotland’s other national drink” (after whisky)”
“number one selling soft drink in Scotland”
I thought you weren’t Scottish?
It travelled south.
I think I’ve said it before, the way hubby and I use our Keurig, it works out to about $0.25 a cup. *shrug* It works for us.
I actually prefer making it then drinking the stuff.
Strange but true.
Mine range from $.25 to $.45 a cup theough a single cup brewer.
I keep hearing the anti K-Cup protests. This is apparently the great outrage of our time.
We brew our coffee daily, but the Keurig is nice for either the occasional flavored coffee or tea in the afternoon.
Oddly enough, my office has the opposite of a K-cup protest going on. Management decided at one point that they were going to be magnanimous and provide a 40 or so person office with all the K-cups they wanted. I guess they figured out just how much they were spending on it because one day the K-cups ran dry and in their place were reusable k-cup knockoffs and mason jars filled with Maxwell House and Folgers coffee. Turns out that those brands in the K-cup knockoffs produce super weak cups of coffee. Now everyone completely ignores the Keurig machines and runs to the gas station for afternoon coffee. The sad part of the story is that they still have a regular coffee pot in the break room supplied with all the regular coffee one could want. In office-worker mentality-land people assume that physically going to a gas station for coffee is less work (or at least more enjoyable work) than making a damn pot of coffee.
I’m really glad I made it through college without becoming addicted to coffee.
Of course, I should own the Coca Cola company with all the Coke Zero I’ve sucked down over the years, so there’s that.
I don’t think we’ve ever hashed this out here… It seems to be a modern, established conclusion that H.P. Lovecraft was this raging racist. Is this political correctness run amok, or is it true?
I’m no HPL scholar, but the only indicator I ever saw in his work was an offhand, unfortunate “joke” name for a black cat. This is nothing to excuse or defend, but it would seem more like the casual ignorance of an early 20th-century white guy than hateful bigotry.
Anyone have any more facts or info on this?
That’s the first I’ve heard of it. As such it makes me wonder how much more racist he was relative to society at large. Not a lot of enlightened thinking back then.
X-files season 10 was 4 good to great episodes bookended by utter fucking shit. Im torn. If Carter can realize that he simply cant write mythology anymore and can stick with the quality of eps 2-5 then Im in. If he refuses and continues the mythos dreck of episodes 1 and 6 I dont think I can do it.
During the filming of ‘Pump up the Volume’, Christian Slater’s breakfast was a bowl filled with bacon and maple syrup.
I like both those things, just not together. That sounds yuck.
I think I’ve mention this before, but a pancake made with bits of cooked bacon drizzled with sugar syrup is rather tasty.
I’m sure he was just copying Jack Nicholson on this too.
Crap joke for the day:
3 wee boys talking in the playground. 1st wee boy says, my dad,s the fastest man in the world. How do you make that out! He can fire an arrow, run and catch it. That’s nowt, said the second boy, my dad can fire a gun, run an catch the bullet. That’s fekc all, says the 3rd wee boy, my dad works for the Goverment , he finishes at half 4, and he’s in the house for 2 o-clock.!
I’ll be in Tucson Monday through Thursday next week. So close, and yet so far from the safe haven of Phoenix. I’ll be exploring breweries if/when I have the chance.
About an hours drive to Benson Arizona, can you sing?
Van, at some point, you will have to tell me if you’re a cookie or a fudge kind of guy.
I like both, but a bit weird in liking the cookie dough before cooking as well.
So, make fudge before you come and make cookies while you’re here?
Sounds good to me.
Have we got a handle on a Hotel yet? The one we usually stay at has gone up from $90 a night to $130. I’d like to be as close to $100 a night or less.
Jakiffany, is this place both good and close to you. Their rates are more in line with what I can do.
goo.gl/E3Ywr4
Have you made a decision on whether you can go to Phoenix?
I have a budget. If I can stay within my budget, then I will be able to go. I was going to use point to fly out but, unfortunately, July is considered peak times so I don’t have enough points to cover the flight.
To be honest, a lot of the decision will be based on what kind of tax refund we get.
The fact we have to re-wire the whole house this year doesn’t help
Jakiffany? Yes, that hotel is very close by.
Dear Americans

CW: Legends of Tomorrow E1
It has potential.
I suggest the Lando 60 Lines episode of Deadpan..
http://www.wired.com/2016/01/force-awakens-holochess-process/
Second Chance would be far superior if they had gotten a more charismatic actor in the lead role.
Since every one clearly needs one more episodic show to add to their list …
I can recommend “The Detectorists” found on Netflix.
This American finds it VERY BBC so you may have to really concentrate to get some of the dialogue but it is a slightly bittersweet, fun little show. It also seems to be just one season so no long-term commitments needed.

CW: New X-Files E2
Well a slight improvement but what the fuck is up with DD’s voice?
Second episode of XFiles damn sight better than the first. I will say this… for all its flaws so far it certainly feels like XFiles tonally and visually… I’m looking forward to the rest of this mini season

Congrats?

The lass going to the dark side is a more compelling character than the bloody hero.
Still early days and all that.
I was just watching Ravenous last night and thought the same thing about the villain. Then again Robert Carlyle tends to play far more interesting characters than Guy Pearce in just about anything.
So the audible version of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell is 32 hours long, gulp!

So I’m third of the way through ‘Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell’ and pleasantly surprised that I’m actually enjoying the journey.
Footnotes are handled as well as can expected in audio form and the narrator is rather good.
Susannah Clarke has also done some short stories, but it would seem that this is all we’re going to get from her.
The TV series seems pretty faithful so far (with the major exception being Jonathan Strange meeting Mr Norrell far earlier in the TV series plot).
Still I’m tempted to watch it all over again after finishing the book.

I think he’s being noble and not mean at all.
Yeah. I know. I love him dearly.

I thought that movie was awesome. I’ve been tempted to re-watch, but I was 9 the last time I saw it and I’m afraid it won’t hold up well.
Now, there’s a premise that would be worth revisiting in a movie.

I just saw the Deadpool movie. Fantastic! But they used the term Asshats in the credits. I should send them a cease and desist.

I’ll get you your trenchcoat.

http://io9.gizmodo.com/90s-cartoons-were-weird-as-hell-and-i-loved-it-1758816364
This could make you feel old.

My first cup of coffee was in my late 20s
Saw this film today:

So, I learned about this today. People are strange

Sounds complicated.

Wow, looks like HP was a racist, even by 1900 standards. Color me informed. Wait, I used “color” in a sentence, that’s not really PC.
I’ll forgive U
Wow. Yikes. Those quotes definitely seem legit.
The early Kraftwerk, pre synths were a bit shit.

Useless information:

Good Morning Pan
I see chocolate chip cookies in my future.

Please stop shooting each other
This one was somewhere in Kansas. 🙁

So I’m not the most practical person, attempted repairs usually end up with something getting broken or screws left rattling around.
So today I managed to install a new fan in my NAS enclosure and it worked.
