We have Pirate Fluxx and Space Fluxx and enjoy them both. Sometimes it’s fun to play a game where chaos is the norm. It’s just tough to predict game time. . . Could be5 minutes, could be 55.
Yotes fans. I hope you get a chance to go see Alex Tanguay while he’s there. While he’s a far cry of what he used to be he’s still a joy to watch. I know Jack still has fond memories of him….
In all seriousness do it. What a great guy. And a ledgendary Av
Alex’s Tanguay bbq sauce isn’t as potent as it used to be. . .
I do hope Boedker reaches his true potential in Colorado, and that – if the Avs get in – he can give them a solid playoff run. He was usually disappointing and streaky here in AZ. Since the Yotes and in build mode, I was hoping they’d deal Boedker for someone to help build for the future.
… Not… a former star at the end of his career. Let’s hope Tanguay finds what he’s lost and can help Doan add some veteran leadership to a talented young Yotes team that should absolutely be a contender next year.
Boedker is still great in the shoot out, but hasn’t been producing offensively that much lately. I hope he attempts more goals for the Avs than passing the puck.
To be fair the Avs could REALLY use someone who knows how to pass
As a geek, I feel like I should be excited by this, but I find myself less interested in tinkering with stuff like this anymore. One of those things to add to the list when I’m retired and the kids are out of the house.
Something’s been bugging me. You know the poem, As I was going to St. Ives?
Why does everybody say the answer is one? Nowhere in it does it say the men were going in opposite direction. When you think about it, a lone person (the poet) would travel faster than someone with a bunch of wives and cats. Maybe they were going in the same direction. The poet caught up to the man and they started chatting as they were were both walking together for a short while.
With this in mind, I postulate the real answer to this poem is (7*7*7)+2 which is 345.
… or 9 people. Not sure how the cats are really counted. Also, I didn’t include the sacks as that would be just weird. :sideways:
As I was going to St. Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Each wife had seven cats
Each cat had seven kits.
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives
How many were going to St. Ives
I agree. Most riddles involve some lame trick. The argument is that he “met” the people, not “passed” them.
Even if the poet “passed” the other group, the answer would still stand. A lone traveller would, most likely, go at a faster pace than a group so could pass them.
Like I said: lame trick.
The pbp will be much more fun. 😀
But it also never says the man etc are traveling. They could just be sitting near their home on the way.

No need to hope, it’s on the itinerary.
We have an itinerary?
Well I say an itinerary, more like a sketch on a piece of scrap paper..
Let’s see, you come in on a Friday so…
Probably the Zoo on Saturday, followed by gaming with Solier.
Sunday… Maybe the Tyrell.
Monday, Heritage Park. (The Zoo and Heritage Park can be changed but, since we will be gaming on the Saturday, the Tyrell is too far to be home for sure by four.)
Tuesday, Banff, Maybe? At this point, it gets a little sketchy. 😉

A creepy doll
I think they need to look up the definition of a blood moon
I plan to keep the billiards to a minimum, but this hearkens back to the era when Deadpan was born.
So today I’moff to see ‘London has Fallen’.
I wonder how many British stereotypes Hollywood can fit into a film..
I hope you moffed that film really good. :silly:
Even by the low standards of action films it was a bit shite.
Even the witty one liners fell flat.
Anyone else here have Annual Compliance Modules to complete for their job? Also, they affect your job performance review (ie pay raise).
These modules suck every year.
Realised a long time ago that game was rigged,
Use to at my previous job. Much better not having to do them any more.
Rate yourself honestly on a scale of 1-3.
1: You’re horrible and should be fired immediately.
2: You’re just average and should probably be replaced with someone better.
3: You’re overqualified and entitled to more than we’re willing to pay for your position, so we’ll need to replace you with someone better suited for the role.
That was pretty cute. I hope the reboot doesn’t suck.
For months, I’ve been seeing lots of gripes about the gender of the team. I’d assume those people are unimpressed with the new trailer for that reason.
Me, I think it’s a good cast, and an all-female team is a great way to reboot (or continue?) the franchise. Unfortunately, I’m unimpressed with the new trailer for the lack of real laughs or new ideas.
I did feel that way about the new Star Wars trailer, but the film was much better than what I was expecting it to be from the trailer.
Seriously. Holy crap. The song “Battery” is now about the thing you need to replace in your hearing aid.
“The Thing That Should Not Be” is about the 9-hour-erection from too much Viagra.

Speaking of free games, I sunk a good hour+ into playing Star Realms on the tablet last night. The physical game is much more fun, but this is a decent intro to the game.
Many things are more fun in physical form rather than VR.
Thankfully, I don’t take that road to work and also was already in the office well before this happend.

Hi.
So its time for honest conversation and not just because of Mr. Whiskey. This has been a long time coming and only now do I feel strong and safe enough to say it.
I love my kids. You all with children know how much they mean to you. Those of you who have lost children know how much that affects every single future decision and announcement as well. It is therefore with a humble heart that I say my 5th child (including my angel baby TJ) will be arriving on this earth on the first week of June.
i am FUCKING stoked, tho I have no idea how this happened. I guess Im the one shot king. HA! Barf…
This is the reason I am very sketchy about being able to make the wedding. That plus an ill time car wreck have sapped the time and money. With all luck the pregnancy will go smoothly and Ill have the cash to come out.
Why am I writing this? Case I respect most of you. And youre fam. And god bless the USA and fuck Trump in his butt. Thank you
Congratumaholyshit! I’m happy for you both too, and sending positive vibes to all. More details as they become available!
You are truly the shooter of no blanks.
Hey Daddy-O and Mama Dani. Congrats on the big baby news. I’m sure Lady Luck will be on your side for a healthy, safe pregnancy and delivery. Hooray LoPans!
I hope that all who have lost little ones have the same fortune as your family.
Congratulations.
What everybody else said! Congrats!
Congratz man!
Many, many, many congrats! 🙂

Seriously, how far off can the day be when our phones are also our TV remotes?
That here now, apps on iOS and Android.
I gave up. The remote is missing. Wiill have to read instead
That reminds me, the beauty of the first flat screen TV I bought (still working as a monitor for my PlayStation TV) is it still had buttons on the side for changing channel, volume and cycling through inputs.
The new TV is useless with out the remote.
It always amazes me that an intelligent man like GK still likens socialism to communism:
Agree with him or not, he articulates his case with civility and intelligent, non-partisan points. He’d never fit in at Fox. I absolutely support Bernie’s vision, but most of Kasparov’s cautions should stay in the conversation.
Good link, Van. Even if it is about billiards.
He makes some really good points and he makes some bold assertions without cross examination. I wouldn’t consider Eisenhower era America socialist by any means, but with a top tax rate of 90 percent America was considered to be in its height of innovation.
Ok, now I’m serious. Must find the remote. Before hubby comes home tomorrow would be nice.

Hubby called me last night, he seems to have caught something nasty at his conference. It’s going to be a yucky drive home today.
I just told my boss I’m not making the changes to a book the author requested. Let’s see how well that goes over.
I’ve been instructed to read the book, “Basic Rconomics” by Thomas Sowell. If I read it and I still want to vote for someone other than Trump, then my coworker will give me $100.
That doesn’t sound like it would be worth $10,000.00.
I’ve taken economics as part of accounting. I still wouldn’t vote for Drumph if I was American. The few policies I’ve heard don’t make economic sense to me
Agreed. The Sowell book is good, but there is no correlation between it’s contents and anything that Trump has demonstrably done.
The consensus amongst the majority of my co-workers (surgeons, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, nurses) is that Trump
trumps Hilary.
They will take the “showboater for shock-value” over the pathological liar-crook.
I have one co-worker who is supporting Bernie, only because she has lived in Denmark and has experienced his vision of politics there.
There are so many logical fallacies in their stance… I wouldn’t even know where to begin to deconstruct them. (e.g.: Trump is not a pathological liar and a crook??)
These are obviously people with intelligence and rational thought on some level. I can only assume they’re caught in the zeitgeist of 30 years of Hillary-bashing and numbskull celebrity Trump has enjoyed as “real-life Robocop movie villain”, from a certain segment of the populace.
That got me to smile and not just have a “resting bitch face”

In my answer to Ed on FB you can tell I haven’t a fucking clue about how analog computers work.

You’re putting snuff powder in your eyes? That could be the first problem.
Van, did you send me an email? I had one show up in my spam mail from you. It looked a little hinkey so I didn’t want to open it until I knew for sure. The subject line is Hi Ryah.
The last one I sent you was about the flight from Canada to leaving Phoenix slightly earlier, but that was the 29th February.
Ok, so this is probably spam and I’m just going to delete it. Heads up, you may want to run a virus check on your computer, just to be safe.
Will do.
I’ve sent you a test message, see if that one looks garbled.
It’s title is test message.
It wasn’t garbled. It was simply an email from you with the subject line: Hi Ryah. Since it both showed up in my spam and you never head your emails that way, it raised a red flag. Never did open it so I have no idea what it was about. Have since deleted it.
I finished Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo today. It’s a heist story set in a fantasy world and it was rather good.
There’s a series of books by Patrick Weeks that are fantasy heist books. Starting with The Palace Job. They are fun. I’m currently reading the third one.

As much disappointment I had with s3 of Vikings I have equal amounts joy and love for s4. This is why I fell for it in the first place
I dread to think what I would find if I brought a black light to your house after you’ve watched an episode….

I’ve found all seasons of Vikings entertaining so far. S4 has been a bit slow, but seems to be picking up lately.
I’m going to call it official – SPECTRE is the worst of the Daniel Craig Bond films. FIGHT ME!
It’s the worst of the 3 I’ve seen.

Nah! since I agree with you. They completed wasted a good actor in the villain role.
But for sheer tedium, Quantum of Solace wins out.
The villain is even more valid in that one.
But for sheer tedium, Quantum of Solace wins out.
The villain is even more vapid in that one.

Don’t read!!
I think they plan on making him a big deal in the upcoming films.
Waltz or the French guy?
Walz. I don’t even remember a French villain.
I’ve only ever seen the first DG Bond film, but from what I read online, the consensus seems to be a “thumbs down” for Spectre.
Also, “The Americans” is off to a promising start for Season 4. Though, the “coming this season” bit at the end sure seems like they are going to wrap up the story this year.
There is also an official podcast for the show that posts about a day after each episode airs. The ones for Season 3 were most excellent.
It’s a show I’ve got my eye on to watch from the beginning.
I enjoy the show. I’ll also be happy if they wrap it this year.
I read somewhere that the writers would like another 2 seasons, whether they get it is another matter.
Hubby’s home for the next two weeks. Expect lots of tumbleweeds from me.
Okay, I’m trying to remember the name of a film, probably Disney, where three crooks are trying to get to a aeroplane to escape the country. A mini submarine is involved, and a large Salami gets gets fired from the sub at a coastguard ship.
They get away at the end but have to dump the money to lighten the plane.
Probably from the 70’s.
Any ideas?
Sorry, can’t help
When you Google ” Salami gets gets fired from the sub at a coastguard” the Disney movie Boatniks comes up. There are theives as well but I don’t see anything about the airplane.
I might b getting the end of the film mixed up with another, but judging from the film poster it’s the Boatniks.
Ta.
That mini sub was cool….
“And a large Salami gets fired.” Doesn’t sound like a Disney movie to me.
It sounds more like the opening to a bumper for “Jack Mangan’s Deadpan”

I re-read all of The Red Star the past couple of days. It is very frustrating that this comic series is still unfinished. 🙁
One of these days I must get round to reading this series .
I enjoyed the PlayStation 2 game.
I haven’t finished the game. I’ve been meaning to replay it. I think you’d enjoy the comics, even if it leaves you hanging. Did you know Weta Workshop did the 3D compositing for the series? It looks pretty cool.
Nope.
i remember flicking through some issues in a little comic book store in Aldershot when I visited my sister.
It looked interesting.

Hair metal had become a parody of itself that is true, but as brilliant as “Nevermind” was it inspired a large amount of drek.
As any perfect and paradigm bending album does. Its really true. For every Soundgarden’s ‘Badmotorfinger’ (which Ill argue nearly superseded Nevermind) there’s Candlebox. For every Seaweed’s ‘Four’ there’s Days of the New
I love that people of the 90s would sometimes confuse Candlebox with Candlemass.

As I feared, Dawn of Justice is getting semi-shat upon by critics. It simply looks a MESS of shoehorned in characters and unnecessary villains. You know what else it seems to suffer from (IMO)? Unlike the Marvel films I can SEE the CHARACTERS the actors are portraying. Its the exact opposite for this film. All I see are the ACTORS. That’s a problem. And I remind you i REALLY liked Man of Steel, so no DC hatred just to hate here. The DC film universe may be in trouble. That being said of course Ill see it… right after I see Star Wars 5 more times and Deadpool.
I’ll be seeing it for sure. From what I’ve read, the advanced ticket sales are so high, that if for some reason no one bought tickets, it’d still would have made enough money to warrant a sequel.
And THAT is why this film exists. Oi.
I shall be seeing it sometime over The Easter weekend.
“For as by a man came death, by a man has come the resurrection of the dead. For as in Superman all die, so in Batfleck shall all be made alive.” (1 Justice League 15:21-22)
I saw “Man of Steel” a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it. As I recall, it got very mixed critical response, so I’m expecting more of the same with the new movie.
Agree. But at least Man of Steel stuck true to one hero vs one villain (yes I’m counting it as one villain). This new one.. I can’t count the amount of characters in it. It makes Spiderman 3 look subtle.
So very true. But you know what? Anything that gets us a real Wonder Woman movie is worth it in my book. I thought the trailer for WW looked promising.
Im not so secretly hoping this turns into a WW filma dn Bats and Supes are left in the background
And as DC has Supes and Bats stick their thumbs up each other’s bum’s, Marvel is braching out and fucking doing this
The reboots of the Marvel Star Wars and Darth Vader comic titles have become must reads. Theyre really impressive in both story and art. I’m still an Image guy by far, but these two titles are lots of fun
I’m not following the Star Wars comic title, but I agree totally on the Darth Vader comic. This is the Darth Vader I’ve always wanted to see.
I’ve been up for three hours. Hubby, still asleep. I have a feeling one of us will be going to bed sooner than the other this evening before the long weekend
Hmmm. Queens of the Iggy Pop. I’ve only heard American Valhalla. Not really working for me.
I hadn’t heard about a collaboration between Iggy Pop and Josh Homme. As much as I like them both, I’m curious, but have low expectations.
The album just came out, this week I think. Iggy is saying it is his last album. Like I said, I’ve only heard the one song. Maybe it is a matter of getting used to it. It is very different, plinky strings and steel drums.
They’re on an upcoming Austin Coty Limits

Looks like Batman V Superman has a 44 rating amoungst critics but a 71 rating with average users. Considering how much I liked MoS, Watchmen and 300 I am still hopeful.
My sister’s only comment that it was long.
Hopefully she was talking about the film.,,
Watchmen was kinda long too.
A Dr. Manhattan joke?
Goddammit Rhett
I hated the changed ending to Watchmen, but I still liked the film.
Zack Snyder is not some Michael Bay; this guy has made some indelible visuals and images in his movies. I agree with the story complaints about MoS, but I still liked it a lot too. I’ll reserve judgment on BvS until I see it.
CW: The Catch E1
30 minutes in and Ugh!
In my view a step backwards for the actress from the US version of The Killing.
The fact of the matter is that DC is still trying to get film versions of their anchor heroes right while Marvel is like “Oh look guys, here’s Ant-Man, Black Panther, Gaurdians of the Galaxy, and a bunch of other B comic heroes.” That’s impressive
Maybe the day is coming when something doesn’t have to be dark and grim for us to accept it as cool. Maybe DC will figure how that Batman is their only A-list character where a dark tone is appropriate.
After all, The Flash tv series works– and it’s not constantly bleak.
Watched Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday on Netflix last night. I was pretty good. Mostly the same thing as the other Pee-Wee movies. Definitely some laugh out loud moments.

Eostre:
Also known as Ostara, she is the Anglo-Saxon personification of the dawn. She is a fertility goddess and a friend to children, and she changed her pet bird into a rabbit to amuse them. Eostre is equivalent to the Greek Eos and the Roman Aurora.
Have you been nibbling on wikipedea again?
I recall her being a mysterious, unexplained character in the book. And will apparently be portrayed by Christina Hendricks in the series!
Then I realised I would just do the same things on the new one that the old one is still perfectly capable of doing (watching videos, Spotify, Twitter and Facebook).
So it goes.

Have a look around. It’s cool. Don’t forget to go down the hall to the Bat Cave.
Even on Monday at 4pm, the theater is pretty packed.
And I don’t get the hate. There are lots of little critiques I can make, and I will, but nothing disastrous. The movie does exactly what it set out to do.
The most baffling to me are the negative reviews that seem to be based on something that the critics wrote between the time they heard that Affleck was cast as Batman and the time they saw the first trailer. “I’m going to hate this movie so hard and tell you lies about it so you can tell your nerd friends why this movie sucks without even seeing it and realizing that I fed you horseshit for reasons.”
There are problems with it that I know we’ll dig into when BSP talks about the movie, but I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more stories from this iteration of the DCU.
I enjoyed the BA’s portrayal of Batman.
Batman v Superman….
I am still digesting the story. I do know that Jesse Eisenberg’s interpretation of Lex Luthor was obnoxious and it seemed to me, be out of character – but I am not a DC Comic know-it-all. I know nothing.
There is one strange and out of place scene that lasts about 6 or 7 minutes, that left many of us scratching our heads.
I LOVED WW!!! I cannot wait for her movie.
I LOVED the glimpse of Jason Mmmmmm-Mamoa.
I LOVED my afternoon-workday date even more! Squeeeeeee
Did you notice Chris Pine in the WW1 photo of Wonder Woman?
What scene was strange?
Dream Sequences – – especially ones that masquerade as actual events – – are always a storytelling peeve of mine, and these were especially irksome.

YSP has become more moody, instrumental, and almost shoegazy on their latest album. I like, but they are almost the polar opposite from their earliest albums.
They were apparently deeply affected by the death of one of their founding members.
The drummer.
And yet another death, Patty Duke. For the nerdier among us, Samwise’s mom.
Van, I thought of you today. The pie store by our place were having a special on steak & kidney pie.
Well I appreciate the thought just not the special the pie shop was doing.
😛
If it’s any consolation, hubby and I just got an apple pie
Well thank you Crucial, your Momentum Cache when installed and activated made the SSD in my desktop perform worse than usual.
Still, at least it performed the firmware update ok.
I do have to give a hat tip to Lo Pan – – and Roaming Asshat – – for the Darth Vader comic recommendation. I’m only a few issues in, but digging it. It feels like the perfect capture of what would have happened for Vader in the wake of Episode IV.
When you get to the Vader Down portion of the series, his bad-assdom goes insanely off the charts.
I’ve seen some nerd outrage about that, so I believe it’s a prank item.
You could just install the white noise app on your phone/iPad.
Not as cool looking though..
Enough of this foolishness!
Time to clean the washroom.
From the latest Andible, written about BvS:
‘What are we to make of the gender codes in Batman v Superman? Is it confused or certain, modern or prehistoric? To reach a clear conclusion, I might have to tell you the end, or at least flesh out my analysis that the lasso in the final battle is a metaphor for the omnipotent but non-lethal vagina.’ (Zoe Williams, The Guardian, 23 March) [JCo]
Stuck at the car dealership for repairs today.
Gives me the rare opportunity to do nothing BUT catch up on emails and posts.
Thanks for the Archer reviews Bond link. Made it worth getting out of bed this week!
There was a nice Charlie’s Angels vibe on the first episode of the new season of Archer.
I finally get around to listening to Soulier’s album and he’s not around. 🙁
I enjoyed it quite a bit.
He’s been pretty busy. He tours China every year and he’s been booking events for this year. He posted something to the DP FaceBook page the other day. Also, he and his girlfriend are coming over tomorrow, I’ll pass it along.
Root beer float time.
Praise be, Mason Rocket. Praise be. Miss ya pal
Floats are on our menu today too. Always missed and fondly remembered.
So watched some of the first episode of Horace and Pete.
Can I take a baseball to that fucking sign buzzing in the background?
I’d take you to our air museum but I feel you will be disappointed.
Well the air museum near me is rather small, but was still worth a few hours roaming.
Crap joke for the day:
An older gentleman goes into a bar and hears the other patrons discussing the ups and down of marriage.
“Next week my wife and I will celebrate our fiftieth anniversary,” he tells them.
“That’s great. What’s your secret for a long and happy marriage,” one asks.
“Well, you have to do nice things for your wife.”
“Such as?”
“Well, for our twenty fifth anniversary I took her to Italy.”
“That is nice. What are you going to do for your fiftieth?”
“I’m going back to visit her.”
I think I’ll skip this one, unless Tiff is really interested in watching it. I’m OK with dark, but this story is brutal. I appreciate the comic for what it is and what I think it’s trying to say about psychopaths like The Joker, but I don’t really want to revisit it.
I shudder to think of parents letting kids watch, thinking it’s just a Batman cartoon.
We have a few zombie board games. Some are better than others. But, for the most part, I’m kind of done with the whole zombie thing.
I can’t believe the Mos Eisley Cantina Band made it to the Fantasy Hockey Finals.
That was a great come back. Really impressive.
I cant believe I forgot to set my Monday line up AGAIN againt Tony. Once again my brain bites me in the ass. BAH!
Should be a good final!
I was shocked when I saw that as we were on the way to the gym this morning. For a moment I thought that I was having some sort of hallucination caused by being headed to the gym at 5:15 AM on a Monday morning.
How am I supposed to win when Im playing against a good player AND Mr. Forgetfulness??? It dont seem fair! Waaaaa! Waaaa! 🙂
Now as the underdog, Tony, go complete the mission.
*coughnooffenseJackcough*
Good luck, Tony! May the best skeletal-looking musicians win.
The Ex is taking part in NaPoWriMo this year, I liked this one:
A couple of thoughts on this article. Stellar engineering should always be extra-solar. If one possesses the technology to move and alter stars, one probably has the ability to create stars from zero point energy.
Happy Birthday to Mrs. Dani LoPan of the Pans!
Good Luck to Mr. Mangan and Mr. Mast in the Fantasy Finals!
What a turn of events! May the Best M win!
And finally, To TEB, Mr. TEB and to Essbee and Sly B,
I am so sad that you all cannot join us in person for the M&M celly this summer….
BUT, we will be thinking of you all and we will feel your love and good vibes across the continent, for sure! xo
CD: SanTan Brewing – Sex Panther Double Chocolate Porter.
MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
That is a tasty beverage. Only available in cans, I believe?
Also the Pink Panther’s emancipated brother
I wonder what happens when Kato ambushes him in that movie. . .
Hey all! For those who are coming out here this summer and need a hotel, I have a block of rooms at a group rate setup. Details to come in the next day or so- if you want to contact me privately, please do and I can also get you the deets!
Two of you can share a room, as well… Save on cost
Thanks for the birthday wishes, all!
If see this TEB, forget about the FT request, I had a dumb idea that deserves to remain in obscurity.
I’m not the most grammatically correct person, but I think the Daily Star may need to check their headlines.

Ok, I’m looking for the technical term for the following:
If I click on a website link in the Twitter app on iOS, it will go to the link within the app. However it’s coming increasingly common that as you view the website an ad will kick you out of the app and load up the App Store.
Any ideas?
Redirection isn’t it?
Yes. Redirect.
Ta, bloody annoying it is.
I almost made it through the day without knowing it is Hayley Atwell’s birthday
I had wondered what noises drifting over from Denver were.
Shes 34 so that means 34..erm… nevermind
Hmmm, she’s 34, I’m 43 – so I call dibs by right of symmetry!
Though, the saddest part of that comment was the pause I had to take to confirm to myself that I am 43…
So let it be written..
Oh I’m sure she can put you to sleep…with a choke hold..
You have excellent hearing

Today marks a milestone in kitty’s life. She has now been with us longer than she was at the S.P.C.A.
Listening to a local program about cult movies. Seemed appropriate to ask this group. Obviously I know some of the cult films followed by this group, but what would you add to this list? They came up with The Big Lebowski, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Ghostbusters and Somewhere in Time. I know some of my cult favorites aren’t going to be on your list.
Are they just listing cult movies? What’s the criteria? And if theyre calling Ghostbusters a cult hit then all bets are off.
I didn’t say I agreed with the list. They were using a very generic definition of fan favorites that generates multiple views over time
But my question is what are they listing? Best movies? Their favorites? Just random ones?
I’d agree that it’s hard to call something as mainstream as Ghostbusters a Cult film, but I suppose you can’t dismiss the Cult-like community of the Ghostbusters cosplayers. Maybe that qualifies it for the discussion.
A bunch of the Palooza movies definitely qualify:
Zardoz
Dark Star
Repo Man
UHF
Flash Gordon(?)
Basically: if John Carpenter directed it in the 80s.
To actually answer the question put forward… some of my cult classic favorites would be Phantom of the Paradise and Dark Star. I think UHF might classify as cult classic as well.
I can’t believe this was on network television. Can you imagine something like this running on Johnny Carson?
Different day and age. I’m disappointed that every source I’ve seen says “Gimme Chocolate!!” is from Metal Resistance. It isn’t. It’s from their first album. I think their publicist screwed up.
1. I can already hear the douchebag complaints of another strong female hero.
2. Forest Whittaker kind of took me out of it. I like the little known actors I guess. Keps it real..as it were
3. I am VERY glad they are setting this pre New Hope. I hope they can find a nice balance of new film technologies and old looking tech – something the prequels couldnt do.
4. Done properly, this is going to be tremendous.
I fear you will be correct on 1.
if I didn’t know it was being shot in the UK, the minor character actors would have given it away.
Was actually have been at my desk for several hours, I just got into what I was doing and forgot to say hello.
Hubby and I did something in the bedroom we haven’t don in a long time. It will take a bit of getting use to for both us and the cat.
Built a pillow fort?
A pillow fight? All those feathers….
Switched sides of the bed we sleep on.
/faints
Some couples never do that, I know my parents didn’t.
It took Gandalf a few nights to adjust when we did that.
:'(
Teresa has staked her claim to the left side of the bed in perpetuity. But she has a good reason. A car accident in 1993 left her with BPPV as described below.
She can’t lay on her right side for any length of time without getting dizzy.
Rhett. We switched because hubby is having sinus problems so can only sleep on one side also.
Synchronicity:
As I watched the latest episode of Agents of SHIELD, the actor getting killed by the upgraded hydra boss was also in a film the Dragon was watching on TV.
There’s fake fur all over my living room. Must vacuum before hubby gets home.

Cats don’t do so well with the Voigt-Kampff test.

I belong to a survey site from Lucas Films called Obi Wants to Know Me and they just sent out a survey about the new trailer. I tend to throw in one Asshat remark to keep them on their toes. So, when they asked what I though of the trailer (with a big empty text box that I could fill in all on my own) I responded “It looks like it’s going to be a great movie and I’m really happy to see a strong female character. But, oh my goodness, was the one Asian actor in that trailer doing Martial Arts? one step forward, two back I suppose.”
I was expecting to be able to come back from that half-joking statement later in the survey, but it turned out the initial response was the entire survey. Oh well.
I know! He should have at least been throwing lightning or have piercing rays of light shooting from his eyes and mouth. I mean, come on!
So 2/3rds into the ‘reread’ (audiobook) and reminded again how many scenes they did get into the TV and the revelation that Mr Tagomi did indeed see another Earth in the book. I had missed that plot point when I first read the book many moons ago.
I actually started that message several hours before I finished it, so anybody up to speed on goodreads will realise I’ve now finished the reread.
I think that “Draconian” and “Ghost Ship Ocatavius” are my two favorite band discoveries this year.
Heike!
I think she’s the best vocalist that Draconian have had, but I will say the other female singers they’ve had on past albums are pretty damn good too.
The previous vocalist sounds like she’d had some classical training. Heike just has something special about her voice, though. The whole band deserve credit too, though, for writing great, haunting songs that juxtapose the lovely female vocals with the gruff male lead. One of their PR piece described it as “Beauty and the Beast.”
Just got back from being pushed, pulled, and stretched. Now it’s lunch time.
The excitement never ends here at the bunny house
You’re so kneady.
Well, I put it off long enough. Time to clean the washroom.

Today, during my cold medicine-induced nap, I dreamt of Hawaii, getting lost at Costco, and watching a video about a cat that was wearing a corset that appeared to be too small.
It is possible, that I inhaled cat litter dust today while cleaning out the letterboxes…
We’ve only watched about half of this season. The rest is in our PVR. For anyone else who may read this article, I should give a spoiler alert as it discusses the season ending.

All that build up and a damp squib of an ending…meh!
So the anti Horace and Pete, then
It did have the a advantage of not having a noisy neon sign.
If thats the only thing you came away with after watching that emotional punch in the face then, sir, you have no goddamned soul.
The book had many other twists and turns. I was hoping they would leave some for the second season. I too was a little disappointed
“damp squib of an ending” is the single most erotic phrase I’ve ever beheld.
I admit it. I chubbed up.
I love love love the fact that I can go see The Force Awakens in the theater and then come home and watch it on Blu Ray. Or should I say Blu REY. Huh huhuhuhuhuh
Don’t give up your day job.
You can go fuck your sodding day job

I forgot how excellent Flyleaf’s self titled album is. Its also 11 years old now. FUCK me.
People on Twitter have been going nuts about this musical for months.
I have zero interest in seeing the show..
An excellent friend of mine has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. I write this not for sympathy but for a united “fuck cancer” from all and a small donation to your local cancer charity. I know how much this shit had affected folks on this board. Fuck. Cancer.
The fuck!!!!!
What he said.
Lo, I’m sorry about your friend. I’ll keep him in my thoughts. I’ll put a little more in than normal.
Fuck cancer!
FU Cancer!
Although, to be honest, all my charity donations go to the local Children’s hospital and to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (http://www.schizophrenia.ab.ca/)
The day:
Daughter reunited with a friend, which I think is a good thing.
Son actually wanted to hang out and talk with me. We had a great time together today. This should be how every day together goes.
Zootopia was pretty forgettable. If you haven’t seen the DMV scenes, then it could be worth your while.
Fluxx Dice adds a whole new dimension to the game! Fun stuff, and it’s compatible with every Fluxx version. I wish they’d added more than 5 measly cards to the expansion.
Man. There is absolutely n o team I want to with the cup this year thats not the Caps. What a wretched hive of scum and villainy this year is
Two teams, no cup ?
As Van would say, HO HO HO
Gross.
I actually hate the Crapitals as a rival to the Devils – – I just want Ovechkin to get a Cup. I have no idea who I’ll cheer for after their annual playoff choke.
The Yotes started out so promising this year and then squandered it. Oh well. I guess I have a reason to wear the Red Wings t-shirts Teresa bought me when she was in Detroit.
I’m wearing my Yuri 50th anniversary t-shirt. I admit, it was a coincidence, but still…
Wishing I had one. Will need to take care of that for next year.
Morning Pan
Today I’m going to do something totally outrageous and clean my desk.
Hubby and I lead really boring lives. I was trying to think of places to take Van to eat while out here, but could only think of one place. Hubby and I don’t eat out much, and when we do, it’s usually fast food we grab while out and about on weekends. Actually, we don’t get out much, period. We are very much home bodies. I hope Van won’t be too disappointed on how low-key we are compared to what happens when we get together in Deadpan Land.
Unless you are both secretly sacrificing goats to some elder god, I’m not going to be disappointed :-p
..and to be honest, fancy anything food wise is rather wasted on me, and my limited taste in food.
You wouldn’t find sacrificing a goat interesting?
Hubby’s a pretty picky eater too. Less so than you, but only marginally. The one place I could think of was a burger joint. *shrug* It may be mostly fast food and order in while you’re here. I might grill some burgers but we’ll see. Lots of time to think on it.
The bleating and the gore are a bit off putting.
Sounds like dinner time at the Bunny residence is quite the spectacle. 😉
What’s the point of sacrificing anything if there isn’t bleating and gore?
….and I need to try poutine when I’m actually in Canada…
Come on, Canada is far too civilized a place for goat sacrifices.
And besides, moose provide way more meat and gore for the elder gods.
I’m kind of sad about that. Hopefully it will make a difference.
CP: Overture — Daft Punk
Would it shock you, Van, to hear I’ve nene had poutine? I guess a trip to NY Fries in the mall is in order for both of us
Uh, I’ve just been told The Big Cheese is the best poutine place in Calgary. It will be an experience for both of us
And there are a few places here that serve poutine, so you can compare.
Nope.
I’ve never had kippers (smoked fish) , I find the smell to be revolting, but eating kippers for breakfast used to be a traditional meal in many parts of the U.K.
Isn’t that what alternate universe Rimmer always asked for?

We have Pirate Fluxx and Space Fluxx and enjoy them both. Sometimes it’s fun to play a game where chaos is the norm. It’s just tough to predict game time. . . Could be5 minutes, could be 55.

I’m still spry for a pixie.

Bringing us full circle to the answer of 1
For today’s pbp I have three choices.
Veronika Decides to Die

It will be happening some time after lunch.

I’m hoping to get Van in on a PBP when he’s out here
No need to hope, it’s on the itinerary.

Duh. We all know where I stand
Official trailer for the new Ghostbusters:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ugHP-yZXw
That was pretty cute. I hope the reboot doesn’t suck.
For months, I’ve been seeing lots of gripes about the gender of the team. I’d assume those people are unimpressed with the new trailer for that reason.
Me, I think it’s a good cast, and an all-female team is a great way to reboot (or continue?) the franchise. Unfortunately, I’m unimpressed with the new trailer for the lack of real laughs or new ideas.
I did feel that way about the new Star Wars trailer, but the film was much better than what I was expecting it to be from the trailer.

Tonight I’m going to watch Casablanca, a film I’ve only seen bits of.
So after watching a very wrinkly globe, there is a montage.
Ah Conrad Veidt, a German who got out of Germany to flee the Nazi’s ended up playing a Nazi.
Isn’t that ironic?
I wonder if in some deep dark cellar, Steven Speilberg has a version of this film with all the cigarettes edited it out..
Peter Lorre was very good at playing a creep.
I had forgotten that this film is was a bit of a Maltese Falcon reunion.
This cleaned up print is rather sumptuous.
..and in walks Ingrid Bergman, one to add to the list of retro crushes.
THAT song!
Gin joints..you know the quote.
Paris flash back.
The problem with this being in HD is the back projection is rather obvious.
Ingrid still looks cute in a beret.
This film has a lot of drinking,a LOT.

Threats and more threats.

Will Rick really sell out Victor?
Of course he won’t
Course he won’t

Casablanca is worthy of its hype. Great story, legendary performances, and the fakest Paris set ever filmed.

Oh Frank..

Interesting line in the article “Old music outsold new music for the first time ever last year.” That seems worthy of its own report.
This tells me 2 things:
1. Pop culture is more actively recycling old shit, and keeping it relevant.
2. Fans of new music don’t pay for their music.
3. Yeezus.

OK, Who stole the remote control for the TV?
Update: Still haven’t found the remote.
It’s the cat, messing with you.
Seriously, my house isn’t that big.
Call it. Oh wait….
It always amazes me that an intelligent man like GK still likens socialism to communism:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/10/garry-kasparov-hey-bernie-don-t-lecture-me-about-socialism-i-lived-through-it.html

I doubt if I’ll have a dog in this hunt for awhile. We watched Yale completely own ASU at the tournament back in January.
Theyll get there
I’ve somehow never hear David Gilmour’s 1978 solo album until now, through the magic of Youtube. I’m digging it! Sounds like the posr-Roger Pink Floyd stuff (which would make sense).
As much disappointment I had with s3 of Vikings I have equal amounts joy and love for s4. This is why I fell for it in the first place
I dread to think what I would find if I brought a black light to your house after you’ve watched an episode….
The wedding scene?
I’ve found all seasons of Vikings entertaining so far. S4 has been a bit slow, but seems to be picking up lately.
I’m going to call it official – SPECTRE is the worst of the Daniel Craig Bond films. FIGHT ME!
It’s the worst of the 3 I’ve seen.
Fight Ed!
Nah! since I agree with you. They completed wasted a good actor in the villain role.
But for sheer tedium, Quantum of Solace wins out.
The villain is even more valid in that one.
But for sheer tedium, Quantum of Solace wins out.
The villain is even more vapid in that one.
Spectre Spoiler!
In the next sentence!!
Spot-on!

A tumbleweed sort of day.

Nope.

Soon to be sure but I dont think yet. Not as long as they are still quality. When we have NCIS: Smallville.. .then Ill start to worry.
Actually now that I say that, that’s ‘Gothem’.
I think it already is. The time when I don’t have to see every superhero flick on the big screen is fast approaching.
At the same time I’m quivering like a school girl over next week’s Supergirl / Flash crossover. Go figure.

The reboots of the Marvel Star Wars and Darth Vader comic titles have become must reads. Theyre really impressive in both story and art. I’m still an Image guy by far, but these two titles are lots of fun

Looks like Batman V Superman has a 44 rating amoungst critics but a 71 rating with average users. Considering how much I liked MoS, Watchmen and 300 I am still hopeful.

Hopefully she was talking about the film.,,
Watchmen was kinda long too.

… but I guess I’ll wait a few days to see if it’s a real item or not. *grumble, grumble. Stupid April 1st)
http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ivmt/

Michael J Nelson says it’s not an April 1 joke.
So not a Tom Jones Fan, but I enjoyed this:

“Tasteful” and “Tom Jones” – two concepts I never thought would meet.
I rather liked that.

Happy Birthday to our Deadpan Ambassador!!!
That Scott Glenn is pretty impressive for a75-year-old man.
Interesting:

“I’m going back to visit her.”
http://italianmonarchist.blogspot.com/p/symbols.html
So I’m installing the latest firmware on an iPhone 5 I’m passing along to a friend.
Bloody hell it feels tiny and think I used to think it was big for a phone.
“for a phone”
*sigh*. I’ve actually been avoiding the subject but I don’t think I can any more. As much as we tried, I’m just not going to make it this year.
On the up side, I’ll still be seeing Vanamonde’s, so that’s something, I guess
🙁
I second the :-(, but I get it. You’ll be missed!
I’ll see what we can do about a webcast.
Me too, Bunny. I will miss you all! My brother will be at the nuptials and my proxy.
I repeat the :-(, but I get it. You’ll also be missed!
I’ll see what we can do about a webcast.
🙁 as well and bloody hell!
Said news. We’ll do our best to keep you logged in virtually.
http://nerdist.com/batgirl-will-have-a-larger-role-in-batman-the-killing-joke-animated-movie/
Hmmm:
http://arstechnica.co.uk/gaming/2016/04/dead-of-winter-board-game-review/
The Ex is taking part in NaPoWriMo this year, I liked this one:
http://caroleb.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/napowrimo-03.html?m=1
Zing! That’s clever.
I’d somehow never heard (or forgotten I’d heard) about NaPoWriMo. One poem a day?
Yup, for 30 days.
Morning Pan
Today I work on royalty calculations. Lucky, lucky me
Bunny and EssBee – you will be missed. I hope we can do a webcast of some kind, that would be cool. 🙂
Happy Birthday, Amy!
Happy Bday to my loverly wife!
Happy birthday to Lo’s beautiful wife, too!
Happy birthday to Ms. Amelia Bowen!
You do remember which one is which?
All that matters is that youre my bitch.

Fun, fun reading for all the family:

A couple of thoughts on this article. Stellar engineering should always be extra-solar. If one possesses the technology to move and alter stars, one probably has the ability to create stars from zero point energy.
Happy Birthday to Mrs. Dani LoPan of the Pans!
Good Luck to Mr. Mangan and Mr. Mast in the Fantasy Finals!
What a turn of events! May the Best M win!
And finally, To TEB, Mr. TEB and to Essbee and Sly B,
I am so sad that you all cannot join us in person for the M&M celly this summer….
BUT, we will be thinking of you all and we will feel your love and good vibes across the continent, for sure! xo

About 90% were skipped on the one I heard, but this explains better. Linky. http://kcur.org/post/movie-critics-what-makes-cult-film#stream/0
Oh, oh, oh…. Forbidden Zone. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080752/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Huh. I did not know that Bluetooth actually gets its name and icon from Harald Bluetooth, a medieval king of Denmark.

Few things.

A pillow fight? All those feathers….
Switched sides of the bed we sleep on.

Some couples never do that, I know my parents didn’t.
It took Gandalf a few nights to adjust when we did that.

“Photoshopped out murder.”
I doubt if they had singing teapots in mind.
Don’t mention the chef:

No. Although it is possible he might have actually met Hamilton. *rimshot*

Two teams, no cup ?
As Van would say, HO HO HO
Gross.
I actually hate the Crapitals as a rival to the Devils – – I just want Ovechkin to get a Cup. I have no idea who I’ll cheer for after their annual playoff choke.

Would it shock you, Van, to hear I’ve nene had poutine? I guess a trip to NY Fries in the mall is in order for both of us
Uh, I’ve just been told The Big Cheese is the best poutine place in Calgary. It will be an experience for both of us
