  1. Leaving in an hour to take hubby to the airport.

Bunny will be aaaaalllllllll alone for a few days čÖü

Will have to cuddle a teddy bear to stay warm at night.

  2. Yesterday I was rifling through a bunch a papers. My hubby asked what I was looking for so I told him my boyfriend’s phone number, since he was going to be away.

I got major tickles for that čÖé

  3. Well, that’s it. My man has left on a jet plane for California. Given that we’ve had 2″ of snow overnight and it’s still snowing, I wish I could join him.

J0e, Major Tickles is my nemesis.

Does anybody remember the cartoon Captain Caveman?

  4. Got to see that episode a few weeks ago when it ran – that is one sweet piece of firepower.

It’s interesting that they have to go to Arizona to use it because of it supposedly being illegal in Kalifornia.

  5. I wouldn’t classify haggis as disgusting, just not something I’d expect to enjoy, a matter of the chef I am sure. I enjoy properly prepared liver which most folks would put in the category digusting.

  6. I can’t say I think much of the page’s logic because my choices were all US and occasionally Great Lakes area, but then my finally grade was just barely Dixie.

  7. 60% Dixie.

Must be from my Grandmother. She’s from Mississippi. I always assumed I had that 80’s California skater dialect. But I guess when you combine “Dude” with “Y’all”…

  8. Yay!!! Well being dixie may not be a bad thing either.

Right on for winning Leann čÖé I think the southern girls have flavor, so says Frankie Beverly. So say we all čÖé

  9. Well ya’ll let me know if ya’ll ever wanna hear the true Southern speak. I have been exposed to that crap, my whole life yet have managed to half-way stay away from, unless I have been drinking or pissed off.

But can gladly whip it on and say my name like my mama, with THREE syllables.

    yea

    *sigh*

  10. 44% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

I noticed if you accidentally click compute more than once the score gets more and more heavily Dixie, until finally reaching 100%

  11. In the news today..

Intolerance is at the root of increased rates of violent crime victimization in the gay community, say advocates in the wake of a Statistics Canada study released yesterday.
Citing 2004 figures, the report states gays, lesbians and bisexuals faced higher rates of robbery and sexual and physical assault than heterosexuals – with the odds of being victimized by violence more nearly two times greater for gays and lesbians and 4.5 times greater for bisexuals…

The article goes on but I’ll stop there.

I can speak to this. About 10 years ago I had an acquaintance who was (still is) gay but was very discreet about it. Despite his discreetness, one night he came home to his apartment (late at night) and was jumped. Spent quite a long time in the hospital. It was at this point he decided, since being quiet about his sexual orientation didn’t work, he would let the world know. From then on, the moment anybody met him, they knew. He wasn’t quite “flaming” but still.

I just don’t understand the stupidity of some people (I’m talking about those that beat him up, not about my friend)

  12. A Pennsylvania man who shot and wounded a police officer more than 41 years ago will stand trial for his murder following the officer’s death last year.
Prosecutors say the victim, Walter Barclay, died of injuries directly linked to the 1966 shooting.
William Barnes, 71, who served around 20 years in prison for the shooting and other offenses, was re-arrested last year and charged with murder following Barclay’s death.
Prosecutors say a urinary tract infection that afflicted Barclay was a direct result of his paralysis. That was caused when Barnes shot him in the spine during an attempted break-in Nov. 27, 1966
Judge Bradley Moss of the Philadelphia Court of Common Please sided with prosecutors, although he noted he had not found any other case in the US in which a suspect had been charged with murder so long after causing an injury.

    -Calgary Sun

Ok, let me get this straight. The guy shoots someone, serves time for it. Then FORTY-ONE(!!!!), years later, the person shot dies, so they’re going to charge the shooter.
Does anybody else see the stupidity of this? (think time and money wasted)

  13. My silly hubby, who is currently in San Francisco, left his cell phone at school (work). I had to go pick it up, but it’s still too early to shop so I came back. Will go spend money in an hour.

  14. Van, I know someone who was in London with a coworker and the coworker didn’t know what the peas were, so they told the coworker it was wasabi and they spread it all over their fish.

I just wish I had been there to watch…

  15. They talked about that skirt on Slice. Apparently it was seen only on that single episode and was to show the high level of acceptance of different gender roles in the 24th century.

  16. I’ve heard of Capt. Jack, but haven’t seen any episodes of Torchwood. But after two seasons of the new Who, I’m burnt out. I can’t watch it anymore.

  17. Well I enjoy watching the new Dr Who once, but don’t bother watching it again.

I can think of worse shows (I’m looking at you Flash Gordon).

  18. I’ve seen some shows about the construction of that super collider. They talk about building a thing many miles in diameter and they have to align the components down to millimeter tolerances.

Really Big Things and Really Small Tolerances are not a good mix.

  19. I’m in the same category.

However the good Pavlov dog that I am, at Jac’sk R=reference to The Black Hole Movie, I started humming the theme tune.

  20. To the Black Hole movie and not Rustler’s Rhapsody, which I haven’t seen.

I realised I mentioned that fact twice, but thought it was important enough to repeat…

  21. I’d rather listen to the Black Hole storybook record, with the beep to prompt me to turn pages.
    Holy crap, we are old.

Ed, I vaguely remember that movie, but have never seen it. Any good?

  22. I grew up listening to storybook cassette tapes, most of which had chimes to prompt me to turn the page. I had two big, colorful cassette players with functional microphones, which I used to record myself reading a book and narrating a tour of the house. With that in my background, podcasting (or, at least, contributing to podcasts) is a natural fit for me.

  23. But Popcorn I do remember, both from the intervals in BBC education programs in the 70’s and soundtracker mods for the Atari ST in the late 80’s.

  24. Oh wow. I just had a phone conversation with Jack Mangan.

That was intense. Like meeting Winston Churchil, or Abraham Lincoln. Only on a cell phone.

You have no idea how close I came to needing a new cellphone again. I really gotta get on this anxiety thing.

  25. Winston FDR? Is that a new type of cigarrette? I’m just so uncool.

As for the movie, yes, it is definitely a farcical look at cowboy westerns.

Man, I had forgotten that was Sela Ward as the daughter. She must be older than I thought. Still looked pretty good back when she was on “House” a few seasons back.

Perhaps a future -apalooza candidate (Ruster’s Rhapsody, not House).

  26. awww Hugh and I are the same amt of Yankee.. awwww
Im not really sure what that means but I will still awww at it

We had a slight brush with greatness last night..

    We met Gordon Ramsey!

if you don’t know of him he is a chef dude. Lemme find yous a website link about he if anyone is interested (yeah right) čśë

  27. In case anyone cares, with the latest of Adobe’s consumer level editors Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4, you can upload pics straight from the organizer to Flickr and videos straight from the time line to Youtube.

I’ve done both today and it is way cool.

  32. I’ve seen conflicting reports that the start date for the new series of Dr Who starts on March 22nd or March 29th.

March 22nd is the Easter weekend so I’m betting on that start date.

Speaking of boobs. clothes manufacturers never think of boobs. I just went to put clothes on cuz we have a friend stopping by and I put on this new really cute shirt I got at Target and it was obviously made for a girl who HAS NO BOOBS. what the fuck? I look obscene in it. I can wear this as lingerie when I want to get Hugh all excited, I can’t wear this in public!

    [/tangent]

  36. she just went to change shirts, and can I just say… I think that shirt was hot.
But she is right, I would prefer if only I had the pleasure of seeing her in it, not the whole world.

Ok I’m going to go back to thinking about her boobs again while I wait…

Smarty Hotties├é┬« agree, no one, no matter how “famous” has any right to treat you like crap

anyone that does something you like and you want to tell them about it, approach them like they are a real person, because they are real people, and they prefer to be treated as such. Hero worship gets old and no matter how many times you tell them you are their number 1 fan and you can recite every book/movie/commercial/tv show/album/song/ whatever they have EVER created, so can a lot of other people and at the end of the day who cares? They will never be your friend cause why would you want a friend who does nothing but worships you and agrees to everything you say? A true friend would tell you when you are hurting yourself or others, a true friend would tell you the truth about yourself. They have producers and labels and managers and people they pay to suck their cock for them on a daily basis, they may enjoy it once or twice from you, but then they will just move on to the next willing person.

  42. that be some fine guitar playing Mr Mangan

Hugh and I were just discussing my above rant and I want to add that it is ok to tell someone you love what they do, there is nothing wrong with telling them, hey that was a really fucking cool book, or that last record rocks dude, or whatever. Its what you say after that. I’ve met some of my music idols over the years, and I can call a few of them among my friends and I will tell them OMG I love your new record but then i can relate to them as a human being. There is nothing wrong with complimenting people.
On the flip side, it sucks when you genuinely approach someone to tell them Hey your book was awesome and they treat you like a piece of shit.. that sucks and that person should be smacked.

    Hugh sez: I agree

  46. It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
    Would you be mine?
    Could you be mine?…

It’s a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
    Would you be mine?
    Could you be mine?…

I’ve always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let’s make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we’re together we might as well say:
    Would you be mine?
    Could you be mine?
    Won’t you be my neighbor?
    Won’t you please,
    Won’t you please?
Please won’t you be my neighbor?

  47. Yes, you should watch Super Troopers meow.

Yeah, the nothing-but-stache look doesn’t work so well for me. How funny is Leann’s photoshopped picture?

Ed: that playset is awesome. Way to go, Superdad.

TSH: Excellent rants. I agree completely.

  48. Dubshack is on hiatus again. I really hope this helps him. I want Dub better.

I have nowhere else to go now. There’s nothing but me and deadpan.

  49. hello Deadpan

im new to the deadpan comment boards.

It always seemed that i was not ready for them lol.

Now that ive almost caught up i think i might, MIGHT be ready

  50. Interestly enough, people were talking about Jeff Healy a couple of weeks ago over at the guitar website I visit. They mentioned what a great guitarist he was but that his health was failing. This should be an interesting week.

  51. There, I did my duty and placed an X beside the candidate of my choice.

… Now I can bitch about the government čśë

  52. Now to rant…

While I have voted, Alberta is only expecting about a 30% voter turn out.

This ticks me off. I’m a firm believer that if you don’t vote, then you don’t have the right to complain about the government or its policies.

While I admit there are a few exceptions (like my hubby who is out of town and has been since before even the advance polling stations were open and won’t be home until after the polls close), I find it hard to believe 70% of the population has legitimate excuses.

  53. The person at the local Husky said he can’t vote because he has dual citizenship and if he voted in either election he would lose that privilege. I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t know the law in that area but somehow I’m dubious as this is a provincial election not federal.

  54. Bar is “some assembly required”.

Rhettro, I actually do a fairly heavy cardio routine of 1 – 1.5 hours a day, six days a week (although I didn’t do much while my husband was away čÖé )

I find just looking at food makes me gain weight so I have to work quite hard to maintain my girlish figure.

  55. Keep up the great work TEB. Currently I’m running (really running/walking) two miles a day and lifting every other day. Once I get a little stronger, I’ll increase it. My knees tell me every day how much of a 40 year old I am. LOL

  56. A few years ago, my husband and I decided to get serious. We’ve always done the stationary bike but we bought a new programmable one, a weight bench and weights and I got some cardio DVD’s.

Of course, I’m not sure I liked the getting up at 6 am to work out before going to work but since we do it together it’s not too bad.

Didn’t need to lose weight (well, he didn’t anyway) but now, a few years later, we still notice the difference in our energy level.

As for running/walking. I find I have to do low impact work out for the same reason. Damn knees čÖé

  57. There, bar is together. Will wait until hubby gets home before I put it up as he may have a specific spot he wants it (though most likely in the office doorway)

  58. I was high and dry like the Kansas sky
If I ached for any more I knew I’d surely die
Night after night trying to get out of my skin
    Day after lonely day
    You’d send me back again

I have stood inside this prison
I have touched its stony walls
I know before you try to run
    You gotta learn to crawl
I tried to leave it all behind me
I drove all night just to drive all day
But the walls of this prison still surround me
    And I can’t break away

    Melissa Etheridge — The Prison

  59. No Van, I have no intention of bulking up (or is that hulking up?) As I said, we’ve always worked out, and I tend to get bored with the same routine day in and day out so I’m just mixing things up a bit.

  60. Ditto, it’s really a nice bar, now that I’ve seen it up close. Very sturdy. And, in my mind a reasonable price. Especially now that the Canadian $ is at (or even a little above) the US.

  61. To attach to the doorway, there are metal brackets that screw into the wall, just above the door jam. The bar just sits into them, so it’s easy to remove (as long as you don’t mind the look of metal brackets above your door čÖé ).

  62. Nice bar. I want one. When I started working out (about the same time I started coming here) I couldn’t do an unassisted wide grip pull up or more than like, one dip.

I can do 3 sets of 10 dips no problem now, but those wide grip pull-ups are hard. I can do 5, 3 and 2 now. Then I do weigh 195+, so…

    Chin-ups are way easier.

  63. I was down to 189 in mid december, but then vacation and lack of rugby, then twisting my ankle has me back up to 197 or so….totally lame. Ankle feels better now, time to whoop myself into sexy-mode for Dublin!!

  64. Hugh and I try to workout everyday.

We lift weights using a bowflex machine at home- and we alternate muscle groups
Then Hugh runs and I bike
Every evening we do bikram yoga
weekends we also do tai chi

Honestly at this point we are putting more focus on the yoga and tai chi then the weight lifting and cardio.
I like to try to go swimming a few times a week in the summer

Hugh did the bulk up thing. He was such a cute skinny guy when I met him. Then he bulked up to the sexy muscle hunk he is now čÖé

Ok I need to go jump in the lake or something now
    bye

  66. I’m not dying or anything. Just in rehab.

And it doesn’t help that my wife smuggled me cookies. Been able to stay away from caffiene, but the benz haven’t started yet.

Also I slipped a bit of audio content into Mike’s mailbox for Wingin’ it. Dunno if he’ll play it though, it’s highly offensive.

  67. I’m suffering a bit of a creative derth at the moment. I had a few ideas for content but forgot most of them. LOL I’ll try and jot some ideas down latter, probably nothing I can contribute this week.

  68. That’s sad and a little freaky. While driving in today I was listening to Slice and they have that ad for Dragon Con TV or something, but it has a clip of Gary Gygax talking. And for whatever reason it reminded me of the Simpsons episode that had Gary Gygax and Al Gore on it. LOL

  69. Thanks for the correction Van. I only remember bits of the Simpsons and Futurama, and as bits they are pretty interchangable. LOL

  70. That’s because we geeks probably wouldn’t see it in the entertainment section.

I’ve still got my original Player’s Handbook even though I was only into paper role playing some 20 years ago.

  71. Morning Pan!

It’s a beautiful sunny day. I’m sitting here, eating a cheese omelette, listening to the birds sing. It’s so bright and sunny, I don’t need any lights on in the house. A nice change from the winter darkness.

  72. In other news. There’s talk of making voting mandatory. For our provincial election, Alberta had the lowest voter turnout in CANADIAN (not just provincial) history.

I loves my apathetic, red-neck province čÖé

  73. Two street racers aren’t responsible for injuries suffered by an elderly pedestrian hit by one of their motorcycles, a judge ruled yesterday.
Justice Peter McIntyre said Harvey David, 79, was to blame for the crash which hospitalized him. He later died there after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
But McIntyre did find both Jacob Bjerknes, 29 and Lindsey Conroy, 28, guilty of dangerous driving for speeding down busy 17 Ave S.W. during a spring evening three years ago.
McIntyre acquitted the two Calgary men of the more serious charges of criminal negligence and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, ruling David was responsible for the crash.
Bjerknes collided with David as the elderly man was trying ot cross the street, breaking his leg and fracturing two ribs.
David died days after the crash

    – Calgary Sun

Wait a minute. If I want to cross the street, I now have to watch for the illegal street racers or it’s my own fault they hit me????

    What’s wrong with this picture?

  74. Subconsciously, I think I noticed each one of those expressions as odd.

Dub, I went back and listened to Tag #2 this morning. I think Leann is the only person that can make the subject of body hair entertaining. LOL

On DnD, I had a friend introduce me to DnD when I was 11, I was hooked. But he moved away and I didn’t get back into it until 7th grade. I bought the basic books and played a few games. But it wasn’t until I was a junior in high school that I ever got into a regular weekly game. That was awesome, 7 player game with girls and boys really entertaining. Didn’t play again until I was 28 and met someone who was heavily into Rolemaster. So my wife and I spent a summer playing Rolemaster on Saturdays with another couple and a few friends. Fun but time consuming. I still buy books about role playing, but mostly just for reading, I’m not sure I would make the best game master, but I love to play.

  75. My husband and I try to play every Saturday. It’s not always D & D (right now it’s thrilling tales) but we try to do some form of role playing.

On Fridays we have a bunch of people over and do table top games, such as Killer Bunnies, any of the Catan games, Kill Doctor Lucky, Ticket to Ride, etc.

  76. I know they have been claims that elections have been lost due to bad weather in the UK, where voters of one party don’t turn in the same numbers in bad weather.

Compulsory voting would stop a lot of that.

  77. As a teenager, I played quite a bit of D&D, stopped for a while, and then played a bit again during college. I haven’t played since, other than video games. Like Rhettro, I do enjoy picking up the manuals from time to time.

Some of the 4th ed changes sound interesting. I might have to give it a try, but considering the lack of free time that I have, I don’t see how.

  78. Good to see you Dre, you know I think there are some additional rules that govern sex play into DnD. I’m almost 100 percent sure there are unofficial rules that govern that. LOL

  79. Hubba hubba!!

I was kinda thinking as you moved around to each room or whatever you have to have sex with everything in the room in order to pass.. and you get points for different methods, positions that sort of thing.

And you pick up toys as you go. You start with a box of condoms and handcuffs or something like that. LOL

And when you picked what you are, you can have differnt levels of perversion or something

Wow I need to make this game up!

  80. Let your imagination run wild.

    Enchanted cock rings.

    Staffs of… something.

    Save verses V.D.

I’m not going to Google for “Dungeon and Dragons rules for sex” while at work though. I’m sure you would get pages of rules. LOL

  81. When you make your billions from the game invention, don’t forget all of us little people back at the Deadpan čÖé

I think you’d be most successful taking such a concept to online multiplayer. Your company would quickly become bigger than Google.

  82. I like those little Chicago pepperoni pizzas as a snack…they now claim to have NO HYDROGENATED FAT…so that’s ok then.

    Burp!

  83. 420, the new improved answer to life, the universe, and everything.

8 out of 10 philosophers we asked claimed 10 TIMES greater satisfaction with the new answer.
