  1. Oh FOX.
Not content with being an annoying newsfotainment channel that I can simply ignore, you have gone and cannibalized the SPEED Channel for your new Sports Channel.

Because CLEARLY, auto enthusiasts would rather have a 24 hour sports channel that occasionally shows motorsports instead of the channel we had, which showed motorsports programing 24 HOURS A DAY. Because LESS is BETTER, right?

  3. Hi, everybody! Hi, RapidEye!

Just wanted to announce that I am 100% on board for the Dual of the Fates Royale With Cheese. I absolutely plan to contribute audio for it.

  4. Sprinkles Cupcakes gave out free Maple Bacon Cupcakes tonight.

My review: A plumply fat pink-colored candied plig adorns this slight beige colored frosted cupcake. It is a delicious, doughy-yet-surprisingly-light cupcake.
Slight whiff of maple. Bacon pieces baked right into the cake were bland, but I liked knowing I was eating bacon.

    A most excellent delight.

  5. CW: Low Winter Sun E3

I’m in a maschistic mood this months, my pet peeve (British actors doing hammy US accents) is x2 in this series and I’m still watching it.

  6. I listened to this episode today. It made me happy. I, too, hope that the community continues on, and plan to continue participating. Also, I agree with Jack’s point: the smaller audience here gives us more freedom to say things on here that would be met with either offended, angry comments or no response at all (because they’re so geeky) if they were posted on Facebook.

          • I too add the “hmmm”.
From the perspective of “one size” worthwhile does-not-fit-all.

While I can’t advocate grinding out your life at a job that sucks your soul … have you ever actually tried working from home? I have and I’ll just say that it may work for some but there are many reasons why it won’t work for many. For one, most of us NEED to GO to work. If for no other reason the to be able to “come home from work”.

          • I’ve heard a lot of “don’t worry about the money, just quit your job and follow your dream” advice from a lot of people…. who…. have a money-making partner, access to wealthy parents’ cash, or some other kind of safety net, plus no dependents who’d need to ride out the risk with them.
I don’t begrudge these people their good fortune or success, if they’ve had either by going this route, but I think there’s some naivete in believing that everyone at every point in their life has the same leeway.

The Skeksis have taught me well.

  7. Sweet lord I finished Orange is the New Black last night and now I’m super sad I have to wait til they make more. Bravo, Netflix!!!

Conversely I’m also super sad I have to still force myself thru 4 more Dexter episodes….

    • I started watching Orange is the New Black and haven’t had much time to get past the second episode. I hear it takes a few episodes so I will continue to give it a chance.

      • Any good show worth its weight should. Taking 2 or 3 eps to develop characters and situations that youll care about (good or bad) is something more shows would be well to do .

  8. Latest Humble Bundle is out. I got it more because I want to encourage them to include more offerings besides games than because I wanted any particular piece of comedy that they had in this one. I feel like they concentrate too much on the games, not enough on the books, music, other stuff. Then again, they probably focus where the most money tends to come in so I can’t really blame them. More people are probably up for paying cheap money for games than they are for the other media content.

  9. Stolen from a FaceBook friend (none of my jokes are original *sigh*). Although, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard a version of this from Van before.

A young Ontario woman was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the ocean, but just before she could throw herself from the docks, a handsome young man stopped her.
“You have so much to live for,” said the man. “I’m a sailor, and we are off to Italy tomorrow. I can stow you away on my ship. I’ll take care of you, bring you food every day, and keep you happy.”
With nothing to lose, combined with the fact that she had always wanted to go to Italy , the woman accepted. That night the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a small but comfortable compartment in the hold. From then on, every night he would bring her three sandwiches, a bottle of red wine, and make love to her until dawn. Three weeks later she was discovered by the captain during a routine inspection.
“What are you doing here?” asked the captain.
“I have an arrangement with one of the sailors,” she replied. “He brings me food and I get a free trip to Italy .”
    “I see,” the captain says.
Her conscience got the best of her and she added, “Plus, he’s screwing me.”
“He certainly is,” replied the captain, “this is the Toronto Island Ferry.”

  10. Way behind on things again. I’m looking forward to listen to this ep tonight.

And who knew that the lifespan of fire alarms is 10 years? Sigh.

  11. A new beer store has opened up in my realm. I visited today and adopted some strays.

  12. So tonight I learned not to mess with my NAS’s Linux O/S cos I really didn’t know what I was doing.

Luckily the program I installed has to be manually started and a restart of the NAS got it working again.

If it’s in granulated form you could give it a go on breakfast cereal.

  15. http://slackhalla.org/~demise/test/socialattitude.php

    Radicalism 72
    Socialism 43.75
    Tenderness 62.5

These scores indicate that you are a tender-minded moderate progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with very few strong opinions.

    Meh *shrug*

  16. Radicalism 66.5

    • Okay, I might agree with the “moderate” and “centrist” bits but “few strong opinions”? Seriously?
Here are some strong opinions on this pole –

Like all of these poles I find many of the questions extremely flawed and biased against people who think. If you answer the questions literally then you find yourself choosing answers in opposition to the way you feel/believe.
For instance,”It is perfectly fair that many people should acquire large incomes, not through work, but through inheritance.
Literally speaking it is not “fair”. It is never “fair” that one person has nothing to eat while others throw out uneaten food. What are they really asking me? Are they trying to figure out if I understand what the meaning of “fair” is or do they want to know if I think that “fair” matters in the case of inheritance?

Then there is this one –
People should have faith in what they believe.
What are they intending to ask here? How can you believe something without having faith in it? WTF

  23. 193 miles to Damascus for me. Though, I probably would have done a little better if I had noticed that I could zoom in on the map first before placing my “pin”.

  24. Your bonus crap joke is:

A married couple is driving along a highway doing a steady 40 miles per hour. The wife is behind the wheel. Her husband suddenly looks across at her and speaks in a clear voice. “I know we’ve been married for twenty years, but I want a divorce”The wife says nothing, keeps looking at the road ahead but slowly increases her speed to 45 mph.The husband speaks again. “I don’t want you to try and talk me out of it,” he says, “because I’ve been having an affair with your best friend, and she’s a far better lover than you are.”Again the wife stays quiet, but grips the steering wheel more tightly and slowly increases the speed to 55. He pushes his luck. “I want the house,” he says insistently.. Up to 60. “I want the car, too,” he continues. 65 mph.”And,” he says, “I’ll have the bank accounts, all the credit cards and the boat!” The car slowly starts veering towards a massive concrete bridge. This makes him nervous, so he asks her, “Isn’t there anything you want?”The wife at last replies in a quiet and controlled voice. “No, I’ve got everything I need,” she says. “Oh, really,” he inquires, “so what have you got?”Just before they slam into the wall at 65 mph, the wife turns to him and smiles. “The airbag.”

  26. So I finally got hubby to see a doctor yesterday about his finger. Apparently, the first thing the doctor asked was, “you’re not a musician, are you?” Hubby finds out some time after the long weekend if he will need surgery on his hand. Regardless of the answer it will effect his guitar playing (left ring finger). Needless to say, he’s a little tense this weekend.

While not good news, I’m hoping this will put into him the idea that seeking medical help when an injury happens is a good idea. Not waiting several weeks later.

  27. You know, the 80’s movie version of Dune really is terrible. Almost worthy of a Bunny play by play. I don’t see how it would make any sense without having read the book, and even then, it’s barely coherent.

    • I had felt a disturbance in the force, as if thousands of voices had cried out at once and then were silenced, but I’d thought was just a little indigestion.
Now I know the true cause.

I’m sure it was full of laughs and witty insights.

  28. Hubby and I, for long and drawn out reasons, are thinking of taking up either raquetball or squash. Any Panites out their who play either and can tell me the pros and cons of them?

We looked up the rules and are ok with either. We just need a reason why one would work better for us than the other

  29. Your crap joke for the evening:

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, “What is politics?”

Dad says, “Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I’m the breadwinner of the family, so let’s call me capitalism. Your Mom, she’s the administrator of the money, so we’ll call her the government. We’re here to take care of your needs, so we’ll call you the people. The nanny, we’ll consider her the working class. And, your baby brother, we’ll call him the future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense,”

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper.

So the little boy goes to his parents’ room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny.

He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, “Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.”

The father says, “Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.”

The little boy replies, “Well, while Capitalism is screwing the working class, the government is sound asleep, the people are being ignored and the future is in deep sh*t.”

  30. I mentioned to my nephew the other day that I still hadn’t bought Bioshock:Infinite

He give me a look and said; ‘you aren’t a gamer’
