  1. Oh, noes!

Jack has pulled a Clint Eastwood on me. I am an empty chair…

Which, with Jack leading off with how he never lets me talk when I’m on has put me rolling on the floor.

    🙂

  2. Crap joke for the day:

Halfway through my shift at Boots yesterday, a guy came in to pick up some photos of his naked wife. Naturally, I had a little peek at them as I handed them over. “Would you like the negatives?” I asked. “Yes please,” he said sheepishly. I said, “ok then, your wife’s got saggy tits a
fat arse and she should maybe think about givin that fanny of hers a good trim.”

  3. Just finished listening to DP#269
Good ep (as they all are) and I have to give Van high marks for being able to disassociate himself from his disappointment with the film NOT being a true to the book. I think you give the film a fair shake as it’s own entity.

  4. All right youse, I have the Dredd DVD on its way, based on your positive comments. You’re all to blame if I hate it!
I don’t plan on a pbp, but I’ll share my thoughts.

Has anyone seen this *and* Raid: Redemption?

  5. CW: Sabres vs. Rangers
    CD: Boulevard Irish Stout

CHating: Life. Although right this minute taint so bad. Tis the little things, as she said.

  6. Well, Calgary may not have a hope in hell of making the playoffs but the Hitmen are guaranteed a spot. Gotta love our minor league

  7. I tried doing my phone call that I gave up on yesterday. I wasn’t put on hold. This time I was asked for my number and they will call me back. *sigh* No slurpees for me until I hear from them. $180 fine if you’re caught on the phone while driving so I try to avoid that.

  8. Tried to fax again. My machine said it was successfully sent so they better not lose my parking permit renewal this time

*grumble grumble* stupid City of Calgary making me get parking permits just because I live near a train station. I WAS HERE BEFORE THE STATION WAS! *grumble, grumble*

  9. …and you know you are old when you recognise Rhetro’s new avatar pic as the head of a six million dollar man action figure (doll for boys) with bionic eye you could look through..

  10. In other news re: God’s plan, Colorado has passed civil unions, so Sly B and I will be recently legally . . . unioned? . . . when I see you pretty folks in May. It’ll be legal May 1st and we’ll go that day. We already have the tattoo appointment.

  11. Morning Pan

We had a blackout last night. It was really strange waking up in the to pitch black really quiet house during the night.

    • It almost makes sense, but I still feel like it could be better. I strongly disagree with having two extra teams in one conference.

And why make it for only 2 seasons? Is that good or bad news for Coyotes hopefuls?

  12. So someone makes you a meal and you find you really don’t like it.

    Do you:

    A. Refuse to finish the meal and say so.

    B. force the food down and put a brave smile on it.

    C. Something else (explain)

    • C. Politely eat some, leave the rest, and say it just isn’t agreeing with you.
Option A is probably too blunt. Option B is too punishing.

      • “Let me tell you something kid, this soup isn’t quite there yet, but that’s okay. This soup shows that you are willing to take risks and that’s saying something. Your character will continue to grow as you push the boundaries of this endeavor. You’re gonna make it kid, I know it!”

  13. EssBee likes Jack’s 1st of May comment.

EssBee shakes her head at Lo Pan’s library comment.

EssBee recommends that Van listen to ditto and not Jack about the meal.

  14. Who knew smartphone screens could get burned-in images?

    :frown:

It just goes to show that I’ve spent way, way too much time surfing the web from my phone. (the burned-in image is of the menu bar from my favorite web browser)

    • I’d chime in and say I have seen them print a LOT of stupidly misleading things about the left as well. Huffpo is pretty much just all around spurious. Pretty much the “National Enquirer” of the Internet.

  15. Its a beautiful, sunny day here in Bean Town. The birds are chirping, the squirrels are singing and the babies ‘n toddlers are screaming and screeching.

  16. Crap joke for the day:

Little Johnny lived in the country. They had to use an outhouse, and Little Johnny hated it because it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter and stank all the time. The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and Johnnie determined that one day he would push that outhouse into the creek. One day after a spring rain, the creek was swollen so Little Johnny decided today was the day to push the outhouse into the creek. So he got a large stick and started pushing. Finally, the outhouse toppled into the creek and floated away. That night his dad told him they were going to the woodshed after supper. Knowing that meant a spanking, Little Johnny asked why.The dad replied, “Someone pushed the outhouse into the creek today. It was you, wasn’t it son?” Little Johnny answered yes. Then he thought a moment and said, “Dad, I read in school today that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree and didn’t get into trouble because he told the truth.” His dad replied, “Well, son, George Washington’s father wasn’t in the cherry tree.”

    • They’ve been running trailers for that on Hulu while we’ve been watching other shows. Definitely creepy looking, but then I guess it would have to be.

  17. …and the moral of the story today is make sure hardware you’ve set aside for a rainy day remains hidden and not on display for somebody else to throw in the bin.

  18. CD: Old Monkey Shine English Style Ale. This is officially the last of the beers I picked up in Phoenix. It’s 6:30PM here, this is my second beer, and all I’ve had to eat today is a bagel this morning. Definitely getting my money’s worth in terms of alcohol impact.

  19. Went to the local convention here. Little more than an opportunity to get signed pictures, but it’s the best I’ve been able to find in these parts. I got John DiMaggio, David Prowse, and paid a pretty penny for them. Then I met Lloyd Kaufman from Troma Studios. For the price of a $10 poster, I got to hang out with him, tag along with him on a panel and then hang out with him some more, get a signature on the poster, and get a picture with him. Saddest thing of all is that I really didn’t even need to buy the poster. He is vehemently against people charging for signatures. He would have signed anything I threw at him. I just happened to want the poster for Poltrygeist Night of the Chicken Dead.

      • No, no, no. You’ve got this convention all wrong. You don’t get to hear David Prowse speak. You just get to wait in line to pay the person next to him $30 to have him sign something. You must be thinking of one of those conventions that has… what do you call them… panels.

Seriously, there were some panels but they were hard to get in to and very crowded. Prowse was very quiet at his table and not didn’t seem all that please to be there. Might have had something to do with the 10 or so ST:TNG tables next to him that were overflowing with people while he had no line at all.

John DiMaggio had an overflowing line, and he was talkative as hell. Nice guy. Just wish I had been able to get into his panel. Although, thinking about it, it was because I missed his panel that I got to talk to Lloyd Kaufman and attend his panel on independent film making.

  20. My home computer finally hit the point where it was necessary to reformat and reinstall windows. Thought I did a good job of backing everything up and I was certain I have backed up the iTunes library and media information. Seems as thought that didn’t actually happen and now I have an empty iTunes. Luckily I don’t actually keep my music in the iTunes folder so I didn’t loose anything. But that was a lot of damn work organizing what I had and determining what should and shouldn’t go on the phone. All of that information is lost. I’ve tried syncing my phone a few times. So far, nothing has been wiped from my phone, but nothing has shown up again in iTunes. Not quite sure where to go from here.

    • A while back, I spent an afternoon converting my entire iTunes library to MP3 format and then burning those to DVD. Now I try to avoid iTunes as much as I can and download MP3’s from Amazon.

  21. The plot thickens. Seems I not only neglected to backup my iTunes library, but also all of my pictures. When Windows was still supporting active syncing of computers I had been keeping them up, so I still have copies from up until a few months ago. Still just another pain in the ass that I didn’t really have to deal with if had just been more thorough. Any chance I can get a do-over on today?

    • Well, while it’s sadly too late to help you, I have to say that the “Easy Transfer Tool” that Microsoft came up with at the release of Windows 7 (or it may have even been Vista, but who even used that?) was one of their better ideas. I have used it a few times to migrate files/settings in both upgrade and reformat occasions.

      • I was actually upgrading from Vista to Windows 7. They used to have LiveSync (later Mesh) which was an incredible tool and allowed me to actively sync massive amounts of data across every computer in my house. Now they have cut it so that they can charge for data storage and transfer on Sky Drive.

          • I wasn’t using their upgrade software. I formatted the drive and installed the full version of Windows 7. I have a bunch of backups of most of the pictures. But I had put a lot of recent work into cleaning them up and organizing them. That will be lost. The iTunes library list is the one that is really bugging me because I had spent a lot of time putting a ton of music in there to organize my music as thoroughly as possible, then unchecking much of it so that what wound up on my phone was only the best music. I was only through the Ds in my main collection, but it was still a lot of work.

I installed a recovery program and it has been scannning since last night. My hope is that the iTunes media file is so small that it might yet have escaped getting written over.

          • I learnt that bit of wisdom when upgrading from 7 to 8. Eventually had to uninstall all programs and reinstall to get the problems sorted out.

  22. I just finally finished watching the Director’s Cut of Blade Runner. I watched the theatrical cut a couple of weeks ago. I have quite a few notes from the movie, and I will record them whenever I get a chance.

In other news, I’m almost finished getting caught up on all the Deadpan episodes I’ve missed since last summer. I’m now on #268 (the first Blade Runner Palooza episode, with Rhettro and Desert Pixie).

    Good night, mush.
