  1. ..and yes I used ‘album’ you young whippersnappers.

I’m listening to the latest Clarkesworld podcast and getting an extreme case of deja vu with the story.

Now I can’t find it on any of my regular scifi and fantasy podcasts, so I may have had a premonition about listening to that story..how useless is that?

  2. Ran OS 10.5 install disk

    Upgrade failed

    Now laptop wont restart

Tried to run Disk Repair from the OS install disks Disk Utillity software

I get message saying “invalid node structure” and “repair failed”.

Gee, upgradeing my OS has left my laptop inopperable, Could it BE anymore cliche’ ?

    • You know if you would have bought Apple products, you wouldn’t have software problems. …oh wait.

Sorry JOe, hopefully tech support will get you up and running again.

  3. I bought two iOS5 games today, Bug Princess (bullet hell shooter from Cave) and the port of Sonic CD.

Today I will mostly be saying Seegaa.

  4. aaaaaaand I’m back.
That is … $95 later and I am back.

Rhetro’s re: to my earlier post made me laugh.
It’s like Apple was trying to avoid some sort of Congressional “anti-competitive” action by having you intentionally break the OS by yourself.

    “Dear happy Mac user,
Due to complaints from the PC industry regarding the stability of your OS … we need you to put this “upgrade” disk in your computer and click on the “upgrade” button. This should successfully KILL your computer, bringing us more in line with the PC world, and providing some income for the lonely MAC repair guys who are still lurking out there. Thanks!”

  5. Our bathtub tap drips. Hubby is currently at the hardware store looking for new innards for our tap. I’m home waiting. The water is shut off. I wonder how much trouble I can get into

  6. Last of the Christmas cards are in the mail.

Two Galaxy Nexi ordered for the wife and I

Replacement refurbed DSi for the boy is ordered – Cowboom just might allow my son to survive until puberty.

  7. Since works Christmas party was cancelled, and I shall be working till Xmas eve, I shall be in the corner sucking on a packet of humbugs.

  8. its a hairy nutsack.

or if you want the truth its a hairy mans chest taken from about navel level (at least i cockin hope so)

Also I wanna have Kim Deal’s baby. Always have

  9. Downloading the Skyrim HD texture pack – 1GB of high res textures to improve the graphics of the PC version.

    My graphics card ain’t skeert.

About half way through the 1 GB download.

  10. Ugh work. No offense to those deadpanites living in the land north of the USA, but I have a strong urge to go to Alberta and hit some people.

    • Bonus:

“We have to actually bring in people from other countries because Canadians don’t want to work.”

Me: No, Canadians are just smart enough, and not desperate enough, to not put up with this bullshit.

      • 0_0 Who said that?

My week was pretty lousy, between the mid-week sick day and having to get a car tire patched last night. My weekend, on the other hand, is off to a fantastic start. My parents and I just had a relaxing evening with dinner at Denny’s, followed by live music at a very nice, new coffee house.

        Good night, Pan.

  11. The problem with waking up so early during the week is that, when weekend comes, by 7am your body’s going, ok, that’s enough. Time to get up

  12. Just finished my 13th shift in a row, tonight, a night off then two shifts on, then hopefully 7 off in a row.

In other news, Fox is sick, so we’ll see how the whole day off goes…

  13. Good luck with all the work stuff and sick kid, JB

Work xmas party week. I’m getting too old to go multiple nights like this.
My work party, and Hugh got 2 work parties. 1 just the team he works with did their own thing, the other was the official company party.

Lots of napping and laziness this morning

Got our first official snow fall of the winter this week, and its snowing again right now! Crossing my fingers for a white Christmas. Hugh is just happy basketball is back in his life. Especially after the last 3 weeks of the train wreck that is the Chicago Bears.

    • It was nice that they are giving me the chance to work tons of OT to prepare for my ludicrous five days off surrounding Christmas weekend. We have a football team that is a flaming train wreck if the Bears are a train wreck. Possibly a flaming train derailment that hit a tanker truck of some sort.

  14. I know every band in the world is doing reunions these days but… I kinda think this is the most exciting music reunion yet in my opinion:

    http://theafghanwhigs.com/

    swoon x 100

that and supposedly Trent is back in the studio doing NIN stuff

    swoon x 300

Going to be a good music year for Dre. NIN and Afghan Whigs, new Sleigh Bells album, Kills playing here in Jan, new Franz Ferdinand coming this year. Going to be a good music year.

ok. I have used all the energy I had surfing the interwebs for music gossip. Nappy time.

  15. aaaaand I’m back again.

About this time yesterday I took Firefox’ advice and downloaded/installed their newest version.
By some coincidence, I could no longer use any of my browsers to connect to the interwebs. I could get mail, stream audio, connect to the internet in all other ways … just not with a browser.
It was as frustrating as it sounds.

In the end … I used the disk utility to “repair permissions” and now everything works again.

    fa-la-la-la-laaaa

  17. Sorry for no tamales, JJ – we didn’t have enough gas in the sleigh! Thanks for the Sherlock review. That one and Dragon Tattoo are on our list to catch the week after xmas.

In our future: family fun. XOX all :panties:

  18. I’m so defensive when it comes to Star Wars. I know that people feel the need to voice their hatred for the prequels, but honestly… I want my children to ENJOY them the way I had the opportunity to enjoy the originals. It’s like I feel like I have to protect them from hearing everyone’s negative comments.

  19. Full, busy weekend here (I don’t even know where to begin). . .

Went to see Adam Corrolla Saturday night, which was pretty fun. Then saw Lejon (and Michelle and Rick Novy and others) for the first time in awhile last night.

Van, I’m digging the WotW album! It’s very 70s, but also very well done. Thanks again.

And holy crap, I’m supposed to give blood today.

  20. I want Van to hear my favorite happy song, but it’s as though the internet has banned it from audio existence. I swear I’m going to rip that CD upload all the songs.

So, until then – I offer you the challenge to find the audio version of Reasons Why by Merril Bainbridge for your happy audio listening pleasure.

  21. Back on November 15, Reaper posted this link to the announcement of Apple’s iPod nano replacement program. I put in my replacement request that same day. Today, I came home to find that my shipping materials to send my old one in had finally arrived. My little first-gen iPod nano is all packed up and ready to be shipped out via UPS. 🙂

  22. CR: High Fidelity – Nick Hornsby

    Two things:

Reading non genre novels always reminds me that I like a bit of fantastic in the fiction I read.

Since I was never confident/likeable enough as a teenager/young adult to have a string of broken relationships, the beginning of this book (as the main protagonist describes his main heartbreaks in life) is so alien to my experience that it enters the realms of fantasy.

  23. I’ll see Jack Twisted Sister video and raise him this…other… Twister Sister video. Just in time for the holidays! (start at 40 seconds). I defy you to get thru the whole thing

  24. Hey Pan.

Having a nice holiday. Yesterday I made the family have lunch with my grandmother (usually it’s just me). Today hubby and I are going to Sentry box. He needs some things. I wonder if need is actually the right word.

  25. If youll excuse me I’m off to run around in a very slow circle while the very slow rendition of the theme from 2001 plays in the background.

    • See I enjoyed Season 3… but it came after a GREAT Season 2 so maybe thats why it felt disappointing. Season 5 left me absolutely the emptiest afterwards (haven’t seen this years finale yet).

That being said, without Lithgow, Season 4 would have been ho-hum as well. I begin to wonder how good a show Dexter truly is behind the great acting saving it. (please dont hurt me, Ess)

  26. My iMac is due at the genius bar to have its optical drive replaced tomorrow in the AM. No idea what the turn on something like that is, I’m assuming not a while-u-wait type of deal..

  27. Safe to say:

Heinlein had a few funny ideas.

The guy certainly had Koresh-like charisma, though. I think if he’d gone the L. Ron Hubbard Dianetics route, we’d all be marching under giant Heinlein statues somewhere.

  28. I’m really frustrated that I can’t find my copy of Love Actually and dammit. I’m going to buy it from amazon or something. Then I’m going to eat cookies and watch it over and over and over and over and over.

    I am.

    I’ll do it.

  29. AMG!!! So check this out… because I bought the movie on Amazon… the DVD will be here Friday.. I can’t watch it with the kids home BUT!!!! I have access to the Amazon video version immediately! I’m so stoked! I can watch it tonight!!!

  30. Watching a documentary about Steam trains post WW2 in the UK.

Seems the UK was the home of trainspotting (not the movie)…I’ll get my coat.

      • Curious split between the romantic notion of steam engines held by the public and to the people who actually had to work and maintain steam trains…they were glad to switch over to diesel (much easier to maintain and far less dirty).

  31. Saw that Brandon Sanderson has finished writing the last Wheel of Time book with Robert Jordan’s final words for the end. Expect to see it next fall after it goes through editing and all the other stuff to get a book published.

Based on his work so far in getting the Wheel of Time finished since Robert Jordan’s passing, I have pretty high hopes that this one will be epic.

  32. Well, time didn’t allow … but I was going to try and do a mash-up between “Santa Claus is coming to town” and “Don’t Fear The Reaper” by B.O.C. for this week’s deadpan.

Hey, in MY head at least – it really works nice.

  33. It is the thought that counts, J0e.

I’m gonna do a little something for tonight’s ep…. but it’s not gonna be as ambitious as the past few years. Getting started now. Well, “Foolish Love” just shuffled on, so in about 6 minutes.
