I thought for sure there would already be a comment. It’s 1:36am if that matters.
I’ve spent most of this week confused.
You are cute when you are confused :swoon:
whaaa! What happened to my swooony icon? I thought there was one..
Is that better…

although the single content should be free for today, some people are reporting problems.
All your Thursday are belong to Deadpan.
no :pan: in the iTunes again. damn :ftb:
Yep, after successfully pulling down the test and previous 3 shows on test day, my iTunes failed to grab this one…
I kinda miss the greasy nipple game even though I only heard it during my crash course in July and couldn’t ever play.
This is a new one on me. I just burnt my finger on the read/write head motor and power distribution area of the PCB from a Hard drive. But they didn’t let out any of the magic smoke. weird this will make typing a bit slower today it kinda hurts to type the y u i h j k n , keys and mouse click (ouch)
google listen still saying feeds not taking too.
Time to go get on the bike. Only taking me 21 days into the year to start exercising.
Slept in this morning.
No Pan on i-tumes. Downloading it manually as we speak. humph
No :Deadpan: joy in my iTunes. 🙁
It amazes me when I think of how I once thought McCain was the voice of moderate reason in American politics. Turns out he’s not just a douchebag, he’s an ignorant douchebag.
Short work out for my first time. About eight to ten minutes.
Still, it’s a start.
Today was like one of those fly dreams
Didnt even see an Al’Kesh flashin those high beams
No band of Brutals lookin for the man
Two in the mornin got the Deadpan
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp
And it read “Jack Mangan’s a pimp”
Drunk as hell but no throwin up
Half way home and my I-Tunes sill blowin up
Bubba HoTep starred J.F.K
I got to say it was a good day
Ill give you a one way ticket!

Wow, work is done for the day… What to do, what to do.
My God it’s foggy out there today.
Tarzan wasn’t a ladies’ man
He’d just come along and scoop ’em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin’ around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing
Supermen never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him
Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going
Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: “I Tarzan, You Jane. “
Morning pan. Time for another crappy day. 🙂
I would read the shit out of Jack Mangan’s Deadpan Papyrus.
OH ME TOO ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No Deadpan joy from iTunes either.
Soylent Green would have been 1000000 times better if it really were Gremlins
I would read the phone book if Jack wrote it.
I’m a devoted fangirl that way.
I would also reply to Long Pan twice in one post if I were in the mood to do so.
Ugh. Mayonnaise. I don’t like it except as an ingredient in things like potato salad.
And why do restaurants in the midwest insist on adding it as a secret ingredient on everything?
Dude. good for you, man. Seriously as one who’s been allergic to working out forever, the first step is indeed the hardest.
Because that all they can milk from the rats.
You dirty rat… 😉
ditto: Re: secret ingredient
Guess we don’t like knowing what we are eating IE sausage.
let the innuendo flood gates open hehe

Just refreshed my podcast list in iTunes, no new deadpan.
Streaming the episode as I type.
Off to take my Boo to lunch.
I would be tempted to jailbreak my old 3G iPhone and turn it into a console if this ever goes on sale:
Van: That is pretty sweet!
Quick note before I leave. If you go to the i-Tunes store and look up the Deadpan, the last episode they list is unshow 45. i-tunes doesn’t even show any episodes after that one as existing at all.

JACK JACK JACK! I’m looking in iTunes. I haven’t gotten an episode in iTunes since 12/16. 🙁 This is terrible. Please fix! I need I need I need! GIMME GIMME GIMME!

I actually replied to your tweet(!), but this is a better place for online conversation ;). – – I’d love to talk Pink Floyd sometime onpod.
Nice… I’d like to be a stalker in the closet for that conversation
Either just a Floyd conversation, or a Floydapalooza (I doubt we could just restrict the conversation to The Wall)
This Bunny’s belly is bursting with yum.
thanks for all the congrats on getting up and moving. Will try to keep to plans about moving during my second break.
I’m hoping for a discussion on Floyd the robot from “Planetfall.”
Would love to hear talk about Pink Floyd. Couldn’t keep to just The Wall as each of their albums offer so much.
Anyone listen to On An Island? The album sounds like an eerie happy version of Pink Floyd.
Poor Floyd sniff
Pink Floyd? I meant Uncle Floyd. http://www.unclefloyd.com/

I usually refrain from bashing other podcasts… but “For Those About to Rock” not only is the worst music podcast Ive ever heard, it may be the worst podcast ever. I actually wanted to jump thru the computer during their Alice in Chains show and rip their mouths off to make them stop speaking. GRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anger….
I saw some Gilmour concert footage awhile back with that material. I was pleased to hear him getting back to a classic Floydian sound, had intended to dig further.
BTW: Which one’s Pink?
Yeah, you were the strong silent questor in this episode. In Episodes 10 and 11, we get to see just how strong your character is. You also have several more lines in Episode 11. I will send out the scripts right away.
I had to go out in the rain today, too. I spent several minutes blow-drying my hair when I got home.
TEB is correct about iTunes. I noticed the same thing.
Jack and JRMurdock: Yes! I would absolutely love to hear either a Pink Floyd conversation or a Floydapalooza.
Pink Floyd past me by at the time, never got into them.
I guess they were red-shifted.
Vanamonde made boom boom! 🙂
First time I heard Pink Floyd was just after hearing Alice Cooper for the first time. I dumped my Go-Gos tapes and Michael Jackson and never looked back. Quite simply to say, music changed my life and I think for the better.
ditto made a rimshot….
SO you told the Go-Go’s to take a vacation and Michael Jackson to beat it?
Ugh… why do I do that?
My first experience with Pink Floyd was late 80s and my dad showed us The Wall movie. Think that movie could explain why I am the way I am…
Because you’re thinking it and must sharing the hilarious painfulness of it?
oh yay, someone from my online gaming community found my blog and happens to live across the bay. Ah such a small world sometimes.
I also love those kindsa jokes.
Dick-move by Anheuser-Busch: layoffs while reporting $1.55 billion in profit. How do you boycott products you’d never drink anyway?
I remember my first encounter with Pink Floyd. I was in first or second grade (1976 or 1977), and there was a school pep rally or some-such, and the eighth graders closed the rally singing The Wall part 2.
OK, AZ is under all kinds of insane weather watches and warnings. Be careful out there to everyone in the US southwest.
Be careful, Arizona!

gods bless you, madame
Excellent point. Fuck that noise. Serious.
We’ve had quite a thunderstorm here in SoCal today, too.
Good night, :mush: .
So I was going to post another Unshow to test another feed-problem theory, but it suddenly got to be 11:52 at night.
I hope everyone got through this evening with little injury to self, loved ones, and property.
Goodnight, Ice Cube.

Ok call me shallow, but I’m going to forgive the new season of 24 (tired old retread of previous plots that it is) cos it has Jurgen Prochow as a bad guy.
Hey, thanks for all the magical thinking yesterday. My FiL survived the surgery, so we are thankful for that. Unfortunately, the best I can say now is that he is stable. =(
That is a very true statement about a very weird statement, when out of context.
The first I ever heard of them was the one time I went out for a local BBS meet & greet when I was… somewhere between 16 and 18. After meeting Pooh Bear and SwampFox and … others, we went … somewhere and watched The Wall on a the biggest projection TV I’d ever seen with the loudest, biggest speakers I’d ever seen. Biggest boobs I’d ever seen, at that.
After, the guys started playing (trying to play?) Van Halen (who I’d never heard) and I didn’t understand what the hell they were doing because they didn’t turn on the amps, so it was like violent shaking and no sound.
Sometimes I think my entire life should be a Dumbass Memory.

Buster Red is a nice stylised shooter.
Who watches the Deadpan?
Ah young love. Overheated a young couple arguing over whether the lad should keep his playboys. He wants to get rid of them, she doesn’t care.
Everybody say Awwww..
I just opened the garlic from DPSS – oh my! This is excellent stuff!
(promise more up posts next time)
Just 20, what a waste.
How long do you think until hubby asks for this?
On a different note, I see Jack hasn’t put up the show notes yet. Maybe I scared him with my e-mail yesterday? 😆

:jack: – Troubleshooting….
IE throws back an error on the feed that says:
If we can figure out what line 1557 is, maybe we could get a step closer to figure out why the feed is being annoying?
And finally, under WTF
Now I have work to do
A friend gave me some chocolates, I think I’m going to turn them into these today:
Honestly, I’m working. I promise. :ermm:
Actually, it’s been a pretty quiet January at work. I expect to be finished for the day within a half hour. And that’s including this silliness of over posting I’m doing today.
I lied, work done now. Now I get to clean the bathroom. Yoo Hoo?
*sound of whip cracking*
Is this a sound we’re familiar with?
Actually I meant to say: Is this a sound we’re INTIMATELY familiar with?
There, the bathroom is nice and clean. In about a half hour I’ll head out to do some grocery shopping.
@The Energizer Bunny
Lo Pan will neither confirm or deny such things. Though indeed, Lo Pan has seen said whip cracking in action many times.
I opened the blinds hoping to encourage the sun to come out. Somehow I have the feeling it was all in vain.
I misread the line as 1337 and chuckled.
That would have been totally 1337. 8I7C35.
Wait… that should read “8I7CH35”.
Off to buy food. My larder needs replenishing.
SO LO PAN APPROVED!!!

Lo Pan: Good call!
EssBee: It seems that podcast has really made the rounds amongst the DP crew. Really good stuff.
Who the eff decided it would be ok for it to start snowing while I was at the grocery store?
This bunny is not amused.
That would be a problem.
It seems like the CDATA was put there as a temporary thing. I’d need to see more to determine what it was for.
On a related debugging not, since I’m doing a lot of that at work right now…
Why do people insist on doing completely idiotic things that obviously don’t work? If they spend 2 seconds thinking about what they are writing, there would be fewer problems.
Of course, the above occasionally applies to me.
But only occasionally. 😉
I kid you not, this is what shows up as line 1557 in the feed validator output:
coughStrangely, that validator doesn’t list 1557 as an error.
I get several other errors from this validator:
(Thanks a million for everyone’s help here)
Yeah, that’s the feed validator I used too.
Is it weird that all of this feed/code/techy talk that I absolutely do not understand is turning me on a little?
Lo Pan’s pants are tight as well.
We aim to please. 🙂
You aim too, please.
The problem is that there is no closing for that line.
I think if a
is added to the final line, that would fix the problem with line 1557 not being closed.
ditto gets potential “Lo Pan Approved!” award….
Thanks for the quick responses ladies!
Cookies are in the fridge setting. Will put them in the oven after lunch.
What about me? I could do a really bad female voice!
ooohhhh ah ooooooh
My hands smell like chocolate. I washed them but still…
If you want to submit something feel free to submit it…even if it is in your bad female voice. I wonder does that include leather and a whip?
Aaaaaaaaand back to the whips….
Heheh! Great! 🙂
Hooray for ditto identifying the error! Here’s hoping the fix he suggested works!
Going out to breakfast today. Later, Pan.
Do we ever REALLY leave the whips?

To all of the Ladies of the Deadpan:
You are all simple awesome – Thank You.
Glad to hear we may be drawing to a fix on the Feed. I’m sure there are lurkers out there who are probably wondering if Deadpan is no longer pan.
I know, with as many podcasts that I follow, there have been a few times where one has had problems, but I didn’t pick up on it for a few weeks until it clicked that I hadn’t played a show in a while.
We need Jack’s feed fixed! Won’t somebody think of the children????
Oooooh Hippo high dive is free for the day:

Good things are afoot.
Funny that, Van. Guess what I had for lunch…
Fingers, eyes, ears, nose and toes crossed for you, reaper.
You can keep the foot, I’d rather have chocolate. 🙂
Good luck, reaper.
Fish breath TEB…eewww!
[Say baby] You know, I think if you run the feed with 1.21 gigawatts through the flux capacitor at line 1337, then the validator might return a 1955 error. [/Say baby]
Fingers crossed for you, reaper.
Unrelated: I have used 3 of my new spatulas already.
I’d ask on what, but I have a feeling the answer wouldn’t live up to my imagination.
I’m open to suggestions.
Damn, let’s try that again
Thanks to the cookies, I had to clean my wedding ring. Now it smells minty fresh.
Good luck, reaper!
So, would it be inappropriate to call his prospective employers and advise them to “don’t fear the reaper?”

I thought of that too, Ed but was hoping someone else would go there instead. Thanks for stepping up to the plate.

Was it for the Aunt Jemima Treatment?
How is that different from the Mrs. Butterworth treatment?
Ok what’s with all the bloody tulips?
Do we have to add “Stripes” to the queue for a future Palooza now?
@The Energizer Bunny
All for the cause, TEB 😆
I am stepping away for a trip to the gym. I even considering working out while I’m there.
My eyebrows were getting very bushy, had to break out the shaver..
That was your TMI moment for today.
That’s what I keep asking! :sideways:
About the tulips that is, not about the eyebrows.
I mean that Soviet leader from the 70’s look is sooooo old fashioned.
Is someone getting kisses on fuzzy eyebrows?
Is someone jealous?
Van, I heard that episode this morning. OMG. She does amazing work.
OMG, could this week stop sucking my butt? I was practically just accused of trying to defraud my company’s worker’s comp insurance. Why would I do that?
Jack LaLanne might be.
That bites. Too bad you can’t slug the asshat.
repeat after me: “It’s Friday; it’s Friday; it’s Friday…”
On a completely different note: I normally don’t like book tie-ins to games or movies. However, I’ve really, really enjoyed the Gears of War novels by Karen Traviss.
Ha! A slug wouldn’t do much for my shoulder injury claim! But it’d do wonders for my disposition!
Well I’m working Saturday so no Friday feeling till after tomorrows shift.
On the plus side, I’m off for the week and visiting some friends in Wales for a few days.
GooooooooooooooooooooooooooD Morning Viet Pan!
Yeah, I went there.
It’s not even morning. I don’t know why I did it.
@Lejon (Some Guy from Chandler)

@The Energizer Bunny
No. Just busy day.
Stupid jerks. I hope they find some legitimate tasks to handle and stop giving you the hassle.
Read some of the others too. Fascinating stuff. Vonnegut’s is amazing, especially if you’re familiar with Slaughterhouse 5.
And with that, I’m off for a few.
Cool site Jack, never knew how close KV came to getting killed so many times.
Rob Zombie will eat your soul, and spit out fluffy white cotton puff clouds of smoke.
Oh, Slaughterhouse. I remember Splatterhouse.
When it comes to cars, cleanliness is next to awesomeness. Finally had a nice day (and more importantly, the promise of little rain next week) to get out and scrub and blast away the layers of crud and muck that have attached themselves to my ride for the last several weeks.
It’s amazing what that does to my disposition.
Morning Pan, on a train commuting to work…it’s very quiet.
Sorry to hear about your FiL’s cancer NS.
not onlyvdo I remember Splatterhouse I still play the game from time to time.
So on the way to the train station this morning, stopped by two young lasses (judging by the glittery clothes and death warmed up look had been out on town all night) and asked:
do you live round here?
I satisfied their curiosity by answering yes.
There is no point to this tale.
The darker side to the freeapp site:
Vanamonde: Very cool. I just tried to load Star Fleet I onto my laptop. I enjoyed it very much on the Amiga. The work-to-enjoyment ratio seems a bit high for me to figure out and get running.
It’s dark, there’s a winter storm warning and there’s no martial arts for this bunny today. :ninja: All in all, it’s looking to be a good day. :pinch:
Now I feel guilty for downloading some of those free apps.
Me too TEB.
Off to the cinema, Brothers or The Prophet.
Hubby and I saw Pandorum the other day (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1188729/) We were pleasantly surprised. Despite the advertising, we didn’t find it a space horror but simply a decent SciFi movie.
I once went to a boyfriend’s high school to see a play which was a musical and ALL of the music in the play was performed by an Amiga computer.
We went twice.
If FB was played out in the real world:
I wonder how Atari ST users feel about the Amiga. . .
Cj: Holy crap! That must’ve been simply EPIC! Count me as jealous!
Jack: Woah! I had no idea such a feud existed. I have no experience with the ST, but I find it hard to believe it was the superior machine.
And this is the part where I admit to my very first co-sysop assignment being on a 1-line Atari ST BBS.
I’ve been a nerd-girl for a very very long time.
and yes… it was quite EPIC.
Technically superior.. No. More affordable..he’ll yes.
Computer feuds have been going for as long as they have been home computers and families tgat can only afford one computer..
Still no iTunes love.
Just puttering around the house doing chores.
Ah, I remember the BBS. I still have fond pictures in my mind of the cradle modems.
One of the best games on the ST:
Fun with buzzwords:
Today I heard a commercial for CSB (Connecticut School of Broadcasting). Near the end, it was announced that you should get involved in the “New Media” by getting on the radio. That’s right, the “New Media” is FM!
For those who don’t tweet…
I bought one of these today for 5 bucks at Big Lots!
It fills me with joy.
Vanamonde: Looks like a game that can get challenging pretty fast.
I know not everybody thinks this way, if they did I wouldn’t be ranting, but I can never understand open casket ceremonies. Whenever I think of someone, I’d rather the last vision in my mind be of what they looked like alive, not dead.
Oh. I just realized how this looks. No I’m not posting from the funeral. THAT would be wrong. Home now. Hubby shovelling the walk. I’m deciding what to watch on TV.
Bunny: I’m with you on that one. I have a hard time even bringing myself to go to a funeral at all. On the rare occasion I do show up, I stay FAR away from the casket at all times.
I have to agree. This is actually only the third funeral I’ve been to in my life. Unfortunately, it was usher seating so we were put into the second row.
Ok, 5:00. Must think about dinner.
I agree TEB, although in the UK the usual practice for bodies to be put on display for the relatives at the chapel of rest and not at the actual funeral.
With my Dad, we all decided we wanted to remember the way he was when he was alive and healthy.
I agree 100%. That is never the way I want to see anyone nor is it how I want to be seen. Ever.
As a matter of fact – please don’t anyone ever have a funeral for me! I am still fully on board with having my ashes mixed with fireworks and shot into the air in a joyous celebration of life.
When I go out – I want to go out still twinkling!
Well I told everyone to dump me in field so I can help fertilise the ground. Some farmers do provide that sort of service.
Although I do remember the story of this old bloke who wished that when he died, his body to be ground up and fed to dogs at his local dog shelter.
The dog shelter refused the request.
They claimed the meat would be too tough for the dogs to eat.
that’s funny 😆
Supper done. Now setting up to kill me some trolls. Where’s my flaming maul?
I hate nothic gazers
CW: The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (with my kids)
My wife has explicit instructions to spend as little as humanly possible on my funeral. If it was legal, I would have her dump me in a field somewhere and have a BBQ with our friends and family to remember me. My worst nightmare is that someone will waste money on “my final resting place” or anything to do with it when that money will benefit me not at all and them quite a bit.
I can haz flaming maul?
Same here – cremate my ass (though that option is also not inexpensive).
The roper was tough but, in the end, we kicked its butt.
Deadpan is the muther drunkin’ way.
Who let me into the liquor cabinet at this hour?
Bunny did provide wonderful show notes for this episode, I’ve just been too lazy/distracted to cut/paste them into this post. It wasn’t due to fear 🙂
This is possibly the funniest photobomb I’ve seen yet:
Low Gravity Racer is free for the day, iTunes link follows:
A Wipeout/F-Zero clone.
Although you may need to try later as I’m getting a ‘being modified’ error.
Oh and Morning Pan, a lazy day planned and a Sunday dinner that will make me feel like I’ve been stuffed and put on display in a museum later.
Well it made me laugh:
Lots of good links from the :pan: here recently. I’ll just add this:
It’s a tough call, I grant you.
Saw Crank 2 last night. Sorry LoPan but the only thing I could think of as I was watching it was “WTF”
I play Torchlight occasionally. It’s your stereotypical dungeon crawler but is an ok time waster until something else comes out (Mass Effect 2 next week, Woo Hoo!)
I didn’t see him on the list. Although I’d agree if it was Dr. Who era Tom Baker. Current Tom Baker doesn’t do anything for me.
@Ed from Texas
I hate to admit it but hubby and I never saw Farscape. We were thinking of getting the discs and watching it if it came out in Blu-ray. More to see what the hype was about than anything else. I guess that won’t be happening.
And finally, re. the Zero Punctuation awards, I never did play Arkam Asylum. It’s not that I didn’t want to, it’s just that there are too many games I play as it is and I never got to it. not likely too now, already have three games on pre-order and the year has only just started.
Now I’m off. Going to read for a bit, then hubby and I are off for to the movies.
:CR: The Men Who Stare At Goats by Jon Ronson
Yeah… its THAT good. “WTF” is so much more a satisfying feeling than “oh thats a pretty movie”.
G.D. oven won’t light. Five years is not long enough for ONE major appliance to need major repair. THREE…
I don’t have the words.
Just came back from seeing Avatar. Sorry LoPan, but I found it infinitely better than Crank 1 or 2
Sorry, dude! Your luck has been total shit.
I’ve never seen Farscape. I’m guessing that it’s yet another thing I should add to my Netflix queue? I’m moving up Babylon 5. I can’t wait forever to start watching the series.
I saw an episode or two of Lexx (sp?) It seemed like a B-movie-level sci-fi sexploitation series. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I doubt it would keep my interest.
Lady J put Toys in the Netflix queue. It was unbearably bad.
Legend wasn’t bad until the ending. And the characters looked great, since they weren’t CG. Well, that and whasshisname was the devil-guy. Ya know, from Rocky Horror.
Weird, I was just reading an Amber book, which got me thinking about Legend. Yeah, Tim Curry looked fantastic. And yeah, that was about it.
OK, with apologies, I think the theme is going to revert back to “Classic” mode for a few days.
Whoa. Chang in the machine. I must admit, this old style takes less time for my touch to load. But the other version is prettier. And having the comments at the top is easier on the thumbs.

CR: Pandora’s Star by Peter F Hamilton
You know what? I don’t think I’m going to correct words created by my fat fingers on the i-Touch. You guys are smart cookies, I think you can figure out what I’m saying 🙂
Lexx was pretty good for a few episodes, but it fell victim to the “Three’s Company” syndrome (every episode had the same esential plot: person A overhears part of a conversation with people B and C, and misinterprets… hilarity ensues). With the Lexx, it was: the gang stumbles on a new planet and person D finds out how powerful the ship is and wants to steal the Lexx from them… adventure and hilarity ensue.
Ah-ha! It may be the old format, but usin the new emoticons. 😉
Now I’m on to you :ninja:
My kitty is curled up on my lap pretending she’s cute. She’s making it very hard to read.
I know I’m suppose to support products of my own country. I only saw a few episodes os Lexx. We could never really get into it.
I haz moved posting to Test Unshow II. Please to join me.
My wife and I enjoyed Lexx for what it was. Though, we got into the series prior to having seen the original mini-series(es?). Thing made a lot more sense after getting the background story….not that they ever made much sense at anytime.
Got caught up on the last two week’s worth of Legend of the Seeker. Just got to say that Bridgette Regan in the dress and boots she’s been sporting of late is about the hottest damn thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t quite decide if it is more goth or steam punk.
They are also following the general story of the book in a very loose fashion, as they did with the first season. Still I can enjoy the TV show for the version the story it tells as much as I can the book.
Thanks for the overviews. I have to say, the new boards are more eye-candy-licious, but I do prefer the nipples to flow downwards.
Oooh, Jack,iTunes downloaded a test unshow for me today!!
Morning, DP! The weekend was like a giant tease.
