This one goes out to the Sting fans! You know you’re out there!
Me!
Me too! 😀
My new company is mostly twenty-somethings. I like everyone, but holy crap. . . I’m feeling the old.
“1980s movies? Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?”
I refer you to my FB comment about how many years I’ve worked.
Literally 90% of the people at the company I work for (70 or so person company) are in the age range of my children (23-30). I’ve been feeling the old for many years now.
I have to admit, this sounds like wishful thinking, but the track records of this policy do not lie. Considering how much the US likes to gamble with more unfinanced debt, is this the riskier system?
Just watched the “Apollo 11” movie on Amazon.
This was a master class in film making. I can’t begin to imagine the hundreds of hours of audio, video and film they had to sift through in order to put this together.
Using only original footage (digitally restored) and mostly original audio they put something together that felt much less like a documentary and much more like a theatrical movie.
I say BRAVO !
Cool!
*adds to Watchlist*
It was cool to see it at the cinema, the restored footage looked amazing.
We have taken the plunge!
Ep 1 : Chernobyl.
My heart is so heavy with sadness for the innocent involved and for the workers who were so afraid to stand up to their superiors.
I would reccomend reading Midnight In Chernobyl after watching the tv series. it gives a more nuanced look at the ‘staff of the plant.
Agree with Van. The Show is amazing, but that book definitely adds a lot of context that the show glosses over. Not everyone was simply a hero or villain.
Morning Pan
Missing my hubby. He expects to be out until next week at least. *sigh*
I should go for a walk. I don’t really want to, but I should

Has anyone tried the new “Blade Runner” comic? I’m wondering if it is any good.
I read a preview of a new Bladerunner comic about 5-ish years ago, which didn’t really grab my interest. Is there a new series for 2019?
Mixed feelings about the video. . . And I’m not sure if this is the album version – – but goddamn, this song has been under my skin all day. It’s hauntingly beautiful. Just one guy and a fiddle.
When I first read article I was pissed they mentioned that ST episode but not Captive Universe by Harry Harrison, which is a damned good generation shop story.
A grasshopper walks into a bar and the bartender says “we have a drink named after you.”
To which the grasshopper responds, “You have a drink named Dave?”
COAT.
…. or GOAT?
*crickets*
Morning Pan
Today I go to the observatory and listen to them talk about moon men
+50 !!
I ended up not going. The weather is turning ugly and I didn’t want to drive 90 minutes to the middle of nowhere in heavy rain.
The new Picard trailer made me look forward to the series.
I must confess, especially after seeing the latest trailer, I have no interest at all in the new Picard series. Maybe I’m wired up wrong, but I’ve just not been able to develop any enthusiasm for it. This latest trailer especially makes Patrick Steward look every bit of his 79 years old. He looks like more of a prop than an actor in those shots.
This series will obviously need to be a limited run, no matter how good it is.
Maybe they can get Clint Eastwood to be his main Klingon nemesis.
The great duel of the walking frames.
I’m 1000000 times more behind Picard than I am Discovery.
A Kentucky teacher was quizzing her students. “Johnny, who signed the Declaration of Independence?” He said, “Damn if I know.” She was a little put out by his swearing, so she told him to go home and to bring his father with him when he came back. Next day, the father came with his son, sat in the back of the room to observe. She started back in on her quiz and finally got back to the boy. “Now, Johnny, I’ll ask you again. Well hell teacher,” Johnny said, “I told you I didn’t know.” The father jumped up in the back, pointed a stern finger at his son, and said, “Johnny, if you signed that damn thing, hell, you damn well better admit it!
So tonight’s cult classic was National Lampoon’s Vacation.
I cringed more than laughed.
It’s been a few years, but I recall a lot of laughs in that movie. Especially when they get to Wally World. There are a couple of lines/scenes that still get occasional references in day-to-day conversation.
One of the common gripes I see in these articles is the pain of charging infostructure. It really points out how Chevrolet dropped the ball on marketing the Volt. For those that don’t know the Volt operates as a fully electric vehicle for about 64 miles then it uses a gas generator to let it run about 300 miles beyond that on gas. I bought my second Volt back in March (a used 2016 model). It has almost twice the electric range of the 2012 (64 miles of pure electric range verses 35 miles). A used Volt with 25k miles on it cost less than half a brand new one, so score one for affordability. Funny what the extra range does for me. I bought the Volt back in March and the gas tank still shows it as full. With 64 miles of range and a 40 mile work commute, I just don’t use that much gas. But because of the gas back up, I never have to look for a public charging station. It’s like owning an electric car without the drawbacks of an electric car. A great transition vehicle while the charging infrastructure is being built.
From what I’m reading, if you are a “two car” family and have your own house/garage … making that 2nd car an EV makes sense and wouldn’t really impact your mobility. That is of course, if the cost of the EV is within what you would have already budgeted for that 2nd car.
In reality, if you commute less than 50 miles a day, the mileage limit is just not a factor.
That being said … if the EV dealerships would ALSO get into the business of renting cars and offer their customers a discounted rate, it would eliminate a large part of the argument against.
Yep, pretty much. EVs still have a chicken and egg problem. People won’t buy EVs before there is a robust charging network and there won’t be a robust charging network until people start buying EVs. Right now I would say an EV or plug-in hybrid don’t make sense unless you have a place to charge them at home.
He was supposedly as eccentric as they come, but one of those rare cases where their insanity actually did lead to success and innovation. The Apollo’s successes would have supposedly been very different without him. RIP
Beats the hell out of me.
Daddy in law went for his first physio on Friday, and had his follow up with the surgeon yesterday. Hubby figures he’ll be home some time this week but hasn’t really spoken to his parents about it yet.
This is the longest we’ve been apart in a single stretch in our 23 years of marriage
I think, in a half hour or so, i’ll watch a movie
Ok Pan, it’s movie time
Today’s movie is Soul to Keep
The write up: Beelzebub, a powerful demon hellbent to possess and consume souls, goes after siblings and their lifelong friends at a rundown country house.
Can’t go wrong with that
Quoting Willie Wagstaff
Starting i the middle of the story
Artwork of evil
That goat has been everywhere
Do your boobs hang low?
Gee, a run down building by a lake. That’s not tropey at all
Someone liked his hunting trophies
No phone reception! I didn’t see that coming
A locked basement. I wonder what’s down there?
Smoochies!
Drinking party
She hears a child
So far, nothing in this movie is original
What the hell are they doing with that balloon?
Girl talk
Who unlocked the basement door?
The lights went out
They’ve shown that chainsaw a number of times now, foreshadowing?
Time to enter the, formally, locked basement, armed only with a flashlight
Nope, no tropes here
A hidden room
Let’s try the spell book found in the hidden room
Peer pressure
First! The protection spell
Now, the summoning spell
Yes, let’s as the biggest and strongest to be the “vessel” and get possessed by the demon.
These things would resolve quicker if it was the weakest that was possessed
Oh oh, she plans to continue
Time to get wasted, again
She’s freaking out
The demon has the munchies
Sex time
She’s unsatisfied
Two guys wasn’t enough, now the demon is pleasing herself
Really, what is up with the balloons?
For a forbidden basement, people seem to go down there a lot
Now there are two
Demon sex
Grace is being a bitch
Yup, the spell worked
He’s outta here
Oh look, the car doesn’t start
A demon can’t open locked doors?
An invisible barrier
Putting out the call
And here comes number four
How do we put grace to sleep?
Washroom break! Seriously, I’m pausing to go to the washroom
But first, kitty needs a tummy scrub
Ok, where was I…
Oh yeas, the backup plan
Was she in time?
Erin, lock the door
Time to hide
Isn’t this more or less where we started?
And all is revealed
Read the spell
Stop you rake
She’ll never read for you now
Aren’t we clever
Burying Erin
And the (predictable) end twist
Well, it was a movie
But what happened with the kitty tummy scrub? We’re on the edges of of our seats!
Tummy’s were scribed. Purrs were created.
Now she’s just staring at me because it’s almost dinner time
I don’t understand. Why are you mad at HBO for a Hulu adaptation of Hitchhiker?
I was gonna bring up that new adaptation. I don’t know many details yet – – but it’s exciting news.
Because the film was such a fuck up.
I thought it more a fuck down.
Yes but, why aren’t you mad at Hulu, not HBO, Van?
The library tells me that “The Three Body Problem” is available for digital borrow. . . . Not sure if I can squeeze that one in right now, though.
Also – – why the F are there any limitations or wait periods for digital borrows from the library? It’s not like there’s a physical book that’s taken off the shelf when I’m reading it.
I can answer that(sort of) Libraries pay a for an ebook based a set amount of downloads. For example, they will pay a licence for 10 downloads of a particular book. Therefore, if 10 people are currently looking at the same book, if an 11th person wants to read that book, the library would have to pay an extra fee (as if they had to purchase an extra book)
Where it gets murky is renewals. Never having taken out an ebbok from the library, I’m not sure if you get the book for only a specific length of time. If that is the case, then if you don’t finish the book in that time and choose to renew it, like a physical book, it is then not available to the next person unless the library purchases another licence.
I think this is similar to how a radio station has to pay a licensing fee based on the number of times it plays a particular song. The more a song is played (or the newer the title) the more the station pays
I hope that made sense.
On a side note, The Trhee Body Problem was a good book
Thank you! That actually makes sense. You can renew an ebook borrow, but only if there’s no one else in the borrowing queue. If someone else is lined up for it, then they get it at the end of your time, and you’re SOL on the renewal.
I got burned trying to read “The Fifth Season,” earlier this year. I didn’t have time to really get going, and I lost it only a few pages in. I’ve been in the queue to borrow it again since *January*.
Perhaps you should watch “The 5th Element” while you wait. That always cheers me up.
I’ve just realised I made the same mistake as those fundamentalist Christians made when complaining about Good Omens.
So yes Hulu, fuck off!
..and HBO you keep up the good work.
Cough
🙂
Today the specialist called with a date for my first appointment… in April. *sigh*
CP: Vow — Garbage
Ok, 1 and half episodes into The Boys (new series from Amazon based on a comic series) and I’m digging it.
But bloody hell Dr McCoy’s accent is truly terrible.
I’ve been meaning to read that before watching.
Maybe you should reconsider. From a reviewer on IMDB
:
“If you did read the comics before, this show may disappoint you. It took away too many elements that made the comics great. Hard to say it’s not good though, the production is solid and you may actually enjoy it.”
Kind of like how you can’t stop yourself from slowing down and looking at the scene of a grinding car crash even though you know it will be horrifying.
Laws of humanity:
Whatever it is, people will find a way to fight over it.

Crap joke for the day:
Why don’t postal workers like horny medieval soldiers?
Because they come in the mail.
This one joust about made it.
Google Docs keeps crashing on my iPad. It then takes forever to fucking reload. I don’t know who to shake my fist at, Apple or Google.
I realize this is a first world problem, but it’s a bit more frustrating than, say, a barista forgetting to draw a little image in the foam on my vanilla latte.
Any suggestions?
Use the Pages App on the iPad.
Since we use Windows at home, the Microsoft subscription lets me use Word on my iPad. Works great for me.
Thanks, amigos. I don’t have Office, but maybe(?) my Hotmail account will give me something? I’m sure they want to compete with Google. . .
I’ve tried just using Google Docs in the browser. So far so good.
I’m hopeful I’ll be able to take on the rest of the books with fresh interest after these next couple of seasons air. I stopped reading where the third season ended. While I enjoy the story, the narrative style really grates on me with a small number of POV characters, and many of them only appearing in one book then getting changed out for others in the next one.
I think Holden may be the only one whose been there the whole way, and he’s just not interesting enough to be the main narrator/protagonist.
We just watched the first two episodes of The Boys last night.
The cynic in me wants to say it’s a more realistic portrayal of what people would be like if they got superpowers.
Morning Pan
Last night we started Another Life on Netflix. Hubby’s enjoying it. Me, not so much
Started and finished this week. It’s… entertaining, but pretty outlandish. I think that if all the astronauts had been given a thorough psychological evaluation prior to being accepted, they could have avoided 90% of their issues.
If my TV partner wants to watch, then I’ll do it. Otherwise, not interested.
It’s not required viewing. In one scene they haggle over how to detangle a sleep-inducing machine from a person’s brain without killing them and in another they reason they can power the ship’s warp drive by connecting to the alien device in other. (Pan to scene of crew member with large blue cable out the back of their head (USB 3.0?). I’m giving them a pass because Katee Sackov if the only celebrity I’ve met that said my name in a sexy voice. LOL
I can’t even describe (and really shouldn’t go into detail about) the miracle that’s occurred in the Mangan world over the past few days. Sorry to post vagueness, but it’s just sharing my joy in a safe space, where no one should get any backlash. Whatever happens next… I’m going to cherish the vindication of these recent events
Yeah!
Team Mangan is so ready for a WIN!
I applaud your “end zone dance” no mater what form it takes.
I’m always fascinated by people’s deep music fandoms. This is a great read, and makes me want to dig deeper on The Sundays, beyond the 2 songs I know.
A rabbit walks into a pub and says to the barman,
‘Can I have a pint of beer, and a Ham and Cheese Toastie?’
The barman is amazed, but gives the rabbit a pint of beer and a ham and cheese toastie.
The rabbit drinks the beer and eats the toastie. He then leaves.
The following night the rabbit returns and again asks for a pint of beer, and a Ham and Cheese Toastie.
The barman, now intrigued by the rabbit and the extra drinkers in the pub, (because word gets round), gives the rabbit the pint and the Toastie. The rabbit consumes them and leaves.
The next night, the pub is packed.
In walks the rabbit and says, ‘A pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman.’
The crowd is hushed as the barman gives the rabbit his pint and toastie, and then burst into applause as the rabbit wolfs them down.
The next night there is standing room only in the pub.
Coaches have been laid on for the crowds of patrons attending.
The barman is making more money in one week than he did all last year
In walks the rabbit and says, ‘A pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman.’
The barman says, ‘I’m sorry rabbit, old mate, old mucker, but we are right out of them Ham and Cheese Toasties.’
The rabbit looks aghast.
The crowd has quietened to almost a whisper, when the barman clears his throat nervously and says,
‘We do have a very nice Cheese and Onion Toastie.
The rabbit looks him in the eye and says, ‘Are you sure I will like it.’
The crowd’s bated breath is ear shatteringly silent.
The barman, with a roguish smile says, ‘Do you think that I would let down one of my best friends. I know you’ll love it.’
‘Ok,’ says the rabbit, ‘I’ll have a pint of beer and a Cheese and Onion Toastie.’
The pub erupts with glee as the rabbit quaffs the beer and guzzles the toastie.
He then waves to the crowd and leaves….
NEVER TO RETURN!!!!!!
One year later, in the now impoverished public house, the barman, (who has only served 4 drinks tonight, 3 of which were his), calls time.
When he is cleaning down the now empty bar, he sees a small white form, floating above the bar.
The barman says, ‘Who are you?
To which he is answered,
‘I am the ghost of the rabbit that used to frequent your public house.’
The barman says, ‘I remember you. You made me famous.
You would come in every night and have a pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie. Masses came to see you and this place was famous.’
The rabbit says, ‘Yes I know.’
The barman said, ‘I remember, on your last night we didn’t have any Ham and Cheese Toasties. You had a Cheese and Onion one instead.’
The rabbit said, ‘Yes, you promised me that I would love it.’
The barman said, ‘You never came back, what happened?’
‘I DIED’, said the rabbit.
‘NO!’ said the barman. ‘What from?’
After a short pause, the rabbit said …
‘Mixin-me-toasties
I’ve tried emphasizing every syllable of that punch line…and I still have no clue what it’s trying to say.
Agents of Shield has just gone off the rails bonkers and it is SUCH a joy to watch. What a great ride these last 6 seasons have been. In true St: TNG form I’m beyond stoked I stuck with it
Agreed, it’s been quite a ride.
Crap joke for the day:
One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside
cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out.
She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up,
and begins to read her book.
The peace and solitude are magnificent.
Along comes a Fish and Game Warden in his boat.
He pulls up alongside the woman and says, ‘Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?’
‘Reading a book,’ she replies, (thinking, ‘Isn’t that obvious?’)
‘You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,’ he informs her.
‘I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.’
‘Yes, but I see you have all the equipment.
For all I know you could start at any moment.
I’ll have to take you in and write you up.’
‘If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,’ says the woman.
‘But I haven’t even touched you,’ says the Game Warden.
‘That’s true, but you have all the equipment.
For all I know you could start at any moment.’
‘Have a nice day ma’am,’ and he left.
How does the ghost of the rabbit factor in to this?
Hare today, gone tomorrow?
Jack, temember at the Terry Pratchett convention. Which author was it that joined us in our room? And his wife?
Thanks
The was Peter Norwood, and his much more famous wife, Diane Duane. Good times.
Thanks. I looked on the wikipedia site and found Peter Morwood and Diane.
You’re right. I am ashamed at my poorly-written, hasty reply.
Getting ready to go to the wilds of Scotland next week. High temperatures in August looking to be around 60-62F (15-18c). Quite the change from the 88-93F (31-33c) highs I’m getting in Orlando right now. Also looking like rain gear is going to be a good idea.
Don’t talk to any witches while you’re three. Especially in groups of 3.
If you are off roaming in the Highlands, bug repellent spray is something you should seriously consider.
I’m on a 7 day journey to see as much as I can. Will be in Edinburgh, Doune, Glenfinnan, Isle of Skye, and Orkney. Lots and lots and lots of driving. Bug spray duly noted.
Highlight of the trip is going to be renewing our wedding vows (26 years) at Dundonald Castle.
Also… keep off the moors.
I will not be threatened by a talking meatloaf.
Anything else for love. But I won’t do that.
Morning Pan
Hubby laughs at me. WWC isn’t until Friday. I loaded my car up today.
Hey, are you going to see some mutual friends there? Please tell them hello from me!
Ryan won’t be there, but Randy and Val will be.
Well, say hello to Derek and Jim – – and Tim Reynolds, if any of them are there.
And have fun!
Derek will be there, not sure about Jim. He lives in Edmonton so there’s extra time and expense with him.
How do you know Tim Reynolds? He will be there. He’s one of our authors. We’re currently working on the audiobook version of his book.
First Man is a pretty damn good film. The stuff on the Moon (spoilers!!) got me right here. On a few levels.
The musical score is pretty great too.
*spoilers*
Yeah, that one number he does in zero g on the moon was quite well done.
Morning Pan
Hubby is Hangry this morning. He sees the vampires this morning so he’s not allowed to eat until then.
This morning I tetrised my car.
Later today, on the way back from the vampires, I will stop in to the local bakery and order goodies for our party room.
Tomorrow morning I have breakfast with my boss and we load both our vehicles with boxes of books.
Finished watching After Life on Netflix. It was pretty bad. While it ended with a lot of threads hanging, I’d be really surprised if it’s picked up for a second season. And if it is, I doubt I’ll watch it.
Another Life?
Or did you watch something different, called, After Life?
No, I meant another life with Katee Sackhoff
Looks like After Life gets two seasons on Netflix.
As for “Another Life”, yeah it had a lot of problems. Katee and the computer dude do a pretty good acting job, but the script is poo. I’ll probably still watch a sequel series.
I might be an outlier, but I actually liked the Netflix Will Smith movie “Bright’. It was savaged by the critics, but I thought it was everything it purported to be.
I enjoyed Bright.
Hobbs and Shaw was silly fun, Idris made a great bad guy.
While I won’t see it until it comes to streaming, I always know what to expect, and enjoy, movies with Jason Statham in them. They are usually check your brain at the door, type of fun that you need in your life once in a while.
It really was fun!!
Watched The Red Sea Diving resort with sister last night on Netflix. I can’t argue with people finding it problematic (white saviour and pro Mossad) but I enjoyed it.
Internet outage last night was timed perfectly to wreck my half-hour window to work on cool shit.
Starting the morning complaining, yay!
🙁
What did you just call me?
This comment should not be located here. WTF wordpress?
I realized that the only Dwayne Johnson things I’ve ever seen are Southland Tales, Jumanji, Moana, and the Fast & Furious ride at Universal Studios (I’ve seen exactly zero F&F movies). He’s actually super likable and charismatic, unlike Tom Cruise, who – – while very talented – – seems charismatic, insane, and kind of awful.
Yet I’m still feeling serious Rock fatigue. I’m glad people enjoyed Hobbs and Shaw, but the guy needs to take some PTO days from making movies.
(I didn’t want to refer to it as Johnson Fatigue).
Well, despite hoping otherwise, I haven’t been able to make traveling to the meetup to work for me this year.
I hope everyone has fun in San Diego. I would have liked to go.
You shall be missed.
I curse the circumstances that will cause you to miss the SD MMMmmmeetup. You and your better half will definitely be missed.
I feel for you ditto, I too joined the non-joining ranks a few months ago.
Since Jack hasn’t answered my question, I’ll just have to ask Tim how the two of you know each other. And remind him, I’ve known him longer so I get Jack in the divorce 😉
Well, that went darker than expected 🙂
We’ve only watched the first two episodes but it will surprise no one that I’m quite enjoying it.
What series?
Ha! I’ll never tell you that it’s a Netflix series called The TypeWriter…
oh wait, I just did.
My bad – – I thought my question had gone unanswered :-/
Tim Reynolds published a story of mine in his Podthology book, a few years back. I’m connected with him on Facebook too. He seems to a genuinely excellent guy.
I’m just gonna leave Tommy Lee’s rant…right…here..
“You Trumpsters better pray that liberals never gain control of the WH again because we are going to pay you back so fucking hard for all of this shit. Planned Parenthoods on every damn corner. We’re going to repaint Air Force One, pussy hat pnk and fly it over your beloved Bible Belt 6 days a week, tossing birth control pills, condoms & atheist literature from the cockpit. We’re going to tax your mega churches so bad Joel Olsteen will need to get a job at Chik Fil A to pay his light bill. Speaking of Chik Fil A, we’re buying all those and giving them to any LGBTQ person your sick cult leaders tortured with conversion therapy. Have fun with the new menu you bigoted fucks. Try the McPence. It’s a boiled unseasoned chicken breast that you have to eat in the closet with your mother. We’re going to gather up ALL of your guns, melt them down and turn them into a gargantuan metal mountain emblazoned with the face of Hillary Clinton. All parks will be renamed Rosa Parks ASAP. We’re replacing Confederate statues with BLM leaders & Mexican immigrants. Every single public school will be renamed after a child that was kidnapped by this regime. And after we fumigate the WH, we’re repainting the whole thing rainbow. Fox News will be taken over and turned into a family refugee shelter. We’re turning Hannity’s office into a giant unisex bathroom with changing tables & free tampons. And every single time a Trumpster complains about any of the changes, we’re adding an openly gay character to a Disney movie.”
Oh
my.
Petty and not helpful – – but hilarious.
And how terrible do you have to be if Tommy Lee’s snaps come across as the intelligent side of the argument?
Off to Date Night with the famous Mr. Mangan— the new Tarantino movie it is!
Woot
Bless this immunity
I don’t know why this was in reply to Tiffany.
Once is a mistake, twice is a conspiracy.
Why yes, I do like cheese!
Sorry, wrong response.
I’m never sure how to digest Tarantino movie right after seeing them. This one I’m not sure about.
Considering that one of his clients is the POTUS and that the POTUS has a puppet installed as AG and even in the SCOTUS … that even with the system rigged that much in his favor …
Imagine how absolutely iron clad and damning the evidence against him (and his very powerful clientele) must be if he chose death over the coming storm.
I dunno. Was it really suicide?
If it was by his own hand … I’d be interested to know who had been communicating with him before he did it. It was certainly in the best interest of a lot of powerful/rich people NOT to have him go on trial.
FYI: the FoxNews crowd are claiming that the Clintons killed him. Yep.
“Fox News – doing to our parents, what they always said Video Games would do to us.”
We did Lowell Observatory last night, which is always fun, when weather cooperates.
This is where Pluto was discovered, btw.
Huh.
And here I was, thinking that it was out in the Kuiper belt.
It is a fairly long drive to Flagstaff.
One of these meet-ups..
Nice and cool in northern AZ in summer! A nice escape from heat.
I love it when TV’s Frank gets into a complaining rant, and he just stops mid-sentence and throws his hands up with an “ahhh” as he’s overcome with disgust. Joel would sometimes do the same gag.
It just sums up my feelings so perfectly, so much of the time.
So Little Miss Sunshine is still a very charming film.
..whatever happened to that Cranston guy…
He went on to have a very successful TV career on Malcolm in the Middle. It’s true!
I fondly remember the scene where they all get up to dance with her. The look on Steve Carrell’s face when he’s staring down the evil pageant host is priceless.
Not often a podcast interview left me wanting to buy a book, but this interview with with Adam Becker about his book on the history of Quantum Mechanics was fascinating:
“Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (How WotC Copied a 30 year old book without telling anyone, for giggles)”
Note: The author starts the post with this disclaimer: “Disclaimer this is my opinion not any real allegation idk they might have the rights to it who knows”

Re-watched Infinity War last night. We plan to finally see End Game tonight.
I’m one of the few people, who like that kind of thing, that was very meh on The Babadook when I saw it.
I have a hard time getting behind the “mentally ill mom doesn’t mean to be shitty to her kid” premise.
It was OK.
I would pretty much just keep Hermione and Jar Jar from that list as actually important and widely memorable. Most of the rest of that list was either forgettable, or never worth knowing to begin with.
Just a few I can think up
Neo
Daenerys (you could probably come up with many from Game of Thrones by itself)
Dr Who (the modern incarnation got going in 2005 – if Thomas Jefferson can be pulled forward in time because of Hamilton, I would think Dr. Who would qualify)
The cast of Jersey Shore – I’ve never even watched the show and I hate them all by osmosis.
And, since I’ve never heard of “Milkshake Duck” I’d have to put “Grumpy Cat” as more likely to be on this list.
Without even giving it much thought – – how is Walter White not on this list? I’m not even the biggest Breaking Bad fanatic, but that show was massive.
Frodo Baggins, hello? Or Gandalf?
No one from the MCU?
All of Ed’s suggestions??
**TV’s Frank exasperated “bahhhhhhhhhh” noise**

Hubby’s in for his physical. Somehow I got roped in to going to the doctor’s office with him
I guess that means it’s reading time
CR: Infractus by Sarah Johnson
I finished the first 3 storylines of The Boys, which was definitely crude and over-the-top – – but still actually pretty smart and good. I’m curious about the show.
After finishing that, I started “The Accidental Tourist.” I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in history to ever jump from reading “The Boys” comic to “The Accidental Tourist.”
Honestly, I hadn’t really gotten any excitement over “The Mandalorian” or the Rogue One prequel series when they were announced. This one would get me to pick up a subscription:
Very cool. I’m a big fan of the song and the links above. I know that In Flames did a version not so different from the original which I think is pretty well done.
The strings really bring out the depth of the song’s meaning.
I can’t believe big magazines are publishing articles about the Kanye West-Taylor Swift “Imma let you finish” moment, as if it’s this massive pop culture event.
Beatles at Shea Stadium, Cobain suicide, the return of Star Wars, Imma let you finish.
I’m not American, therefore that stat doesn’t apply to me
Fuck. Fuck. fuck. fuck.
I just found out that a good friend of mine died last weekend. Her husband hasn’t posted any details, so I don’t know what happened.
Fuck.
Aww. *hugs* Jack 🙁
Sorry to hear this Jack. 🙁
Hugs as well.
Hugs. That indeed sucks.
That’s too sad Jack.
My turn for a crap joke:
Once. a long time ago, there was this young man who was in a terrible accident. He lost one of his eyes and it was replaced by a wooden one.
A while after that, he meets this young lady with a club foot. They get along so he starts courting her.
After some time, he gets up the courage and asks the young lady if she would marry him.
The girl exclaims, “Would I!”
“F you too, you club footed bitch,” says the man and stomps off, never to see her again.
The male ego, thinner than an eggshell
I wooden keep telling this joke.
Eye agree
Now I understand why most Canadians are always wearing a coat.
Holy crap, indeed. And in a rare instance, the comments on this are gold. The joke about Dark City 2 had me almost literally LOL.
That is almost as unexpected as a sequel to Titanic.
to me the inevitable shitty Matrix sequel news is way overshadowed today by the news that Spidey is being yanked from the MCU. Sony has no idea wtf it’s doing
Shrewd move for Sony. Bummer for MCU Phase 3, though. But when did any movie exec ever give a shit about the fans or the greater good of the story?
The silver lining: this means we’ll get Spider-Man in Venom 2!
I’m a little disappointed. You would think that by now these big corporations would see that when they give fans what they want they make billions. Instead, they want to play these games. Oh well. I’ve felt a sense of closure with Phase 3. I’m prepared for some new things from Marvel, lots of opportunities for their back catalog of characters.
Honest trailers haven’t been funny for a while but this one looking back at 509 Days of Sunmer made me laugh:
I’m actually curious to watch this one. This movie is seemingly being retro-appraised as a classic. I mean, it was fine. . .
I could never get into romcoms.
To me, they are mostly about people (usually guys but not always) doing things that would get them arrested in real life (as the trailer said, stalker)
Yah, spreadsheets
There’s this little black kitten that keeps hanging around our house. I have the bedroom window open and it was watching me fold laundry. I felt really bad for it because I wouldn’t let it in. (My cat does not play well with others. Also, presumably, it has a home) Finally I just closed the curtain so we couldn’t watch each other.
This is the saddest story I’ve heard all day.
So Once Upon a Time in Hollywood..
Well acted.
Bloated mess
DiCaprio good
I did notice the feet..so many shots of feet.,
I know I shouldn’t get hung up on a movie’s “message,” especially in a QT film, but I was a little uncomfortable with that aspect. (it’s a spoiler discussion)
I’ve always appreciated his films much more on the second viewing. I suspect that will be the case with this one.
Re watching Hateful 8 this time on the Netflix extended miniseries edition and fuck do I love that film. Watched Basterds a couple times lately too. I look forward to being way late to the party on this one
You really never played Scorched Earth? Forget Mario-Kart or any fighting game – – It’s the greatest sit-around-the-screen multiplayer game of all time.
I have DOSBox on my laptop at home primarily for Scorched Earth.
I don’t know any of the others.
Nope, I did play an artillery game on a CBM Pet at school though.
You’re going to have to bring that one to San Diego! I haven’t played Scorched Earth since my college days. Man, we had some epic all nighters…because we were nerds.
Good morning Pan
Busy morning so far, but now I think it’s time to clean the washrooms.
I’m honestly not sure what she wants here. Of course asshole executives aren’t going to reach out to her.
Bottom line … if you have a project that you feal strongly about how it is treated … you just have to “Executive Produce” it yourself.
I would think at this point that the Lee family would have the money to do so.
Your crap joke for the day:
A truck loaded with thousands of copies of Roget’s Thesaurus crashed yesterday losing its entire load. Witnesses were stunned, startled, aghast, taken aback, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyses, dazed, bewildered, mixed up, surprised, awed, dumbfounded, nonplussed, flabbergasted, astounded, amazed, confounded, astonished, overwhelmed, horrified, numbed, speechless, and perplexed.
I first heard this joke from Jackie “The Jokeman” Martling.
Morning Pan
A bit of work this morning, then off to the city, followed by lunch with friends.
Woah!
Just watched “Serial Mom” for the first time in 20 some years and there was a scene that featured L7 !
Just seemed
Coincidental to the link with the article about them. That was the first I had read about them in years.
Camel Toe!
Was gonna post a link, but the page was pop-up madness. So I’ll just tell you.
Apparently Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel will each have their own shows on the new Disney streaming service.
I’m generally not in favor of laughing at the deceased – – but I’ll make an exception for this guy. Fuck this guy.
Finally managed to get to the third season of “Legion.” Definitely not your normal show, even by Marvel standards. I thought the decision to end it the way they did was bold. Very trippy ride. Although I do find myself agreeing some with the criticism of the behavior of one of the major characters in the finale.
Though, probably the trippiest thing was seeing the actor who played Viserys Targarian (Danny’s “crown of gold” brother) in the last couple of episodes. After seeing it on IMDB, it was obvious, but quite a transformation compared to his character in Game of Thrones.
I watched the two episode of S3 … it is still as “out there” as I had hoped and yet, almost too much. I plan on watching the rest of the season but … later.
I need to get back to this show.
The Time Eaters may be the scariest thing put to screen
I am both oddly excited to make this discovery and deeply ashamed that I hadn’t already made the connection. I always thought there was something familiar about him on DS9, and thinking about the voice now, it is so obvious.
I had no idea. We do differ on that movie, though…. I’m in for a remake, though.
Had a marathon trip home by train, thought I might not make it with so many cancellations, finally managed to home.
+get
Captain Obvious says: The first Avengers movie still really holds up. It’s great stuff.
Captin Controversial says: It’s the best thing Joss Whedon has ever done. Even better than Firefly/Serenity.
Captain Obvious has a better beard.
How about Captain Getbent’s facial hair?
Captain Controversial says: Age of Ultron is ultimately a better film than the first
I just noticed that Captain Typo struck in my original comment.
Oh, I and I see that Captain Wrong Opinion has chimed in.
Van can you believe he called you Captain Wrong!?
And didn’t Kurt Russell play Captain Wrong?
And wasn’t Captain Typo on Amidala’s strike team on Naboo?
And also it seems Captain Didn’t See There Was Already A Captain Controversial In Jack’s Original Post When He Named Himself Captain Controversial needs to get his eyes checked
Captain No One Will Read These Comments Way Up the Page says:
Captain Wrong sounds like a rejected Watchmen villain.
Well as long as it wasn’t Captain Wong.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It’s hard for me to decide what Joss Whedon’s *best* is.
I have to get back to you on this one, Love.
Morning Pan
The cat decided that 3:15 was the perfect time for us to wake up. We wanted that extra hour of sleep.
The compromise was we stayed in bed and she bugged us until we finally decided to drag our butts out of bet closer to 4:00
later today, I’m going to throw baby powder all over my floors
Shake and Vac?
Better than baby oil, I guess?
I’m not sure I’m more impressed by, the arcade machines the pub has or the fact it still has a Geocities website:
Of course the cat decided to walk across my powder cover floor.
Search for “The Wizard of Oz” on google. Then click on the ruby slippers
Tonight’s cult classics was The Science of Sleep.
That is one weird ass film.
Darkside Rey is sexy and exciting. I get it’s prolly a vision or clone or some shit but if they actually go that route… good god I will put this trillogy up with the original
Had a long interesting talk with Dr. rick Chappell last night. Solar-Terrestrial astrophysicist. Former Spacelab Director, Astronaut Mission Specialist whose shuttle mission never happened because it was the next scheduled after Challanger.
Anyway … he had an interesting comment on teleportation. He said that in a way, it was now happening with 3D printing. We scan a tool, turning it into data. Then we beam that data to the space station where the print out the tool.
Maybe not exactly what Gene Roddenberry showed us but for most practical applications … the tool was here sent via data to where it wasn’t and then it exists there.
Fun to think about but also fun to see a Scientist embracing Sci-Fi concepts.
“Sorry, I can’t get a flight there tomorrow. I’ll just send a copy of me.”
Hubby and I have been watching the Netflix show Better Than Us. We’re only four episodes in but are quite enjoying it so far. Kind of blows up a few Russian stereotypes.
JW: Double Date
Gender reversal horror where two women are the serial killers. Cheesey fun and a great fight scene towards the end.
You should have done a PBP.
I was to busy wondering if there was a body double for the actress in the big fight scene.
Well. Hard times on planet earth.
Taking our snuggliest cat to the Vet in the morning to remove a tumor from his back leg. I’ve a bad feeling the surgeon is going to want the whole leg. 🙁
Got a call today from my cardiologist who wants me in the hospital Thursday to do a Heart Cath and probably put a stent in.
Yeh. So that.
Good luck to you and the cat.
What Van said. That’s a lot of stress to deal with all at once. . . I hope for the best for kitty.
And please, please do keep us posted on the Heart Cath front.
My thoughts go to you too, Joe. Getting old sucks, for both people and pets. *hugs*
Thanks guys.
Sitting by the phones hopeing not to get any calls. An early phone call would mean they found cancer in his liver or elsewhere and decided there would be no point in doing surgery. ☹️
Hugs, man. Hugs.
Okay. Surgeon finally called. The cat’s liver appears to be okay. At least no large growths in it so they will proceed with the surgery in about an hour.
That really had me worried, so good there.
Yeh. So they had to take the cat’s back leg. The surgeon is optimistic about the cat’s future. Mostly depends on what the lab says about the mass that was removed.
awwwww, poor Romeo. I hope the worst is over for him.
and the best is yet to come for you!
HA!
Hi guys… here is some juicy info regarding Disney+, if interested; but I am told by inside sources, that you should act ASAP, as it can take up to 36 hours to activate.
You can get Disney + by buying 2 years and get the 3rd year for free, which makes it $3.88/month. You have to sign up for their fan club, D23 and they have a free membership option, called General Membership.
Once you sign up for a disney account, you can join D23, and that is when it can take up to 36 hours to send you the link for the Disney+ signup.
It’s a little more complicated here in Canada. When Netflix came to Canada, it took years for it to get the same slate of shows the US did. Even now there are programs you get we don’t.
According to news reports, Disney is not saying whether or not the lineup will be the same in Canada as US. Plus, the pre-order thing you have, doesn’t apply.
Similar situation in the UK as TEB, plus it looks like we will get the service later and the monthly payment will be more expensive.
So I have to pay 100$ a year for a fan club I won’t use plus the 4$ a month?
There’s a free fan club option. It’s just hidden on the page.
No shit?
Oh Lord. I missed an entire section of Pixies post
so, the Mangans are all signed up and ready to meld into the television set on Nov 12 for the next three years!
Upfront cost was $152 and change and will get us through Nov 12, 2022!
WOW. 2022. I mean, 2022. We will have a college student in the house and a Pre-K kid.
WOW.
Boss just texted. She will be in my area, so we are going to meet for lunch.
Do they always have orange jam? That just seems odd and wrong in a cookie.
Wikipedia says they can have other flavors. I just didn’t see any. I think they are using more of an orange marmalade than a jam. Either that or they’re just using really bitter oranges.
I’m amazed you found them bitter, I cannot stand bitter foods and I love Jaffa cakes.
Oh I’m sure Trump’s trying to find a way he can veto this
Hero.
I fear he just painted a large target on himself. I am glad HE did not fear this though.
As their child grew, a woman thought their child looked nothing like either herself or her husband. When the child was ten, she decided to get a DNA test done on the child. The test came back saying it wasn’t related to either herself or her husband.
She approached her husband and he said, “don’t you remember? After he was born, when we were leaving the hospital, he pooped. You tolls me his diaper was dirty so I should take him inside and get a clean one. That’s exactly what I did. I got a clean baby and left the dirty one there.”
Watched the first episode of Carnivale Row as I travel southwards.
Little Red Riding Hood is skipping down the road when she sees the Big Bad Wolf crouched down behind a log. “My what big eyes you have, Mr Wolf”, says Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf jumps up and runs away. Further down the road Little Red Riding Hood sees the wolf again. This time he is crouched behind a tree stump. “My what big ears you have, Mr Wolf”, says Little Red Riding Hood. Again the wolf jumps up and runs away. Some distance further down the track Little Red Riding Hood again encounters the Big Bad Wolf, this time crouched behind a road sign. “My what big teeth you have, Mr Wolf”, taunts Little Red Riding Hood. With that the Big Bad Wolf jumps up and screams… “Will you get lost!,
I’m trying to take a shit !”
Crap joke in so many ways.
I’m not going to be able to swing this, but goddamn, this would be beautiful to see on the big screen:
I needed to get something done, and with an internet outage at home, I popped out to a local coffee shop for Wi-fi, and got the extra horror of Fox News’s coverage of this.
Wow!
This could go very, very wrong.
Or be absolutely brilliant.
But …
Well, I’m go to trust Scarlett Johansson
Wouldn’t be envolved if it was bad … because she’s pretty.
I’m going to do a play by play in a few minutes. As soon as I get downstairs and in front of the tv.
Two things.
1) Since I haven’t figured out how to get laundry to fold itself, I’ll have to pause half way through the movie to fold said laundry.
2) One thing in every post of the play by play will be wrong. Whether it’s the time of day, the gender of a character, the name of a character, etc. one thing will be wrong. Of course, unless you actually watch the movie, you’ll never know what’s wrong with my description 😉
Is #2 in honor of the Presidential twitter account?
I honestly didn’t think of that (Canadian remember?) At least I’m being upfront and honest about my dishonesty.
Ok, here we go
Today’s movie is Look away
The Netflix write up
she had secret desires to inflict harm on those who wronged her. Until the mirror image made them a reality
(This is the real write up. The lying doesn’t start until the movie does)
We know that rabbit lives
I’m so happy
Good afternoon
This school is different than most
Figure skating is fun to watch
She’s smoking in the boys room
… but pretty forgettable every where else.
(Rim shot)
Yes, do it
She’s looking forward to prom
There’s something wrong with their son
There’s Nothing there
Did he have a twin?
She’s getting off in the bedroom
That wasn’t creepy at all
Don’t be afraid
Her dad is the bestest
His mirror self is wrong
Saved by the blue car
He didn’t mean it
No nudity in this movie
He hears dead people
You’re the real deal
She remembers everything
Why to later
She’s not beautiful
Time for dinner
Her parents are perfectly normal
Ok, time for a reality break. My washing machine just beeped so I must deal with my laundry
Ok, I’m back. Now where was I?
Oh yes…
He wants to make out with the boyfriend
Wow, that’s a colourful room
Ummm…?
They are not screwing
She’s happy to see people she knows
Sometimes, daddy is just dumb
He cares
That’s exactly what she wanted
Mom is a strong woman
She has a perfectly normal daughter
He doesn’t think she should be medicated
The dreams will go away
A beautiful spring day
Let go
Best friend ever
In her little blue dress
I trust her
She’s so thrilled
Nobody can skate in this school
She’s having fun
She doesn’t need anybody
Do it
I don’t see a difference
Why doesn’t he ever wash his hands
She’s so sorry
She’s so funny
No revenge happening here
She loves him
She’s being sweet
I see nothing noble in suicide pacts, especially when one person is mentally ill and the other is physically ill. So after 30 odd years there now some pushback in the accepted narrative of Alice Sheldon’s Suicide:
Umm, I’m not even sure how to lie about that. The truth is just too strange.
I know…
I’ve done that in class
Mom has her act together
They don’t spend enough time together
She’s going to the police
Go away
She’s so nice to him
Daddy is a good man
that’s normal
She cares
Maria likes what’s happening
Time to get up
Ok. Now that the movie is over, time to break from mis-truths. Or, in US terms, alternate facts 😉
This movie did have a few cliche moments but, over all, it was actually pretty decent. Of course, like all these type of movies, it had a not quite the end ending, but it was done I. Such a way that it actually worked. As far as terrible b horror movies go, I might even recommend it. Although, it wasn’t really scary and had very little in the way of blood and death so, that either speaks well, or poorly about the movie, depending upon where your tastes lay
All the top experts agree that this PBP was yuuuuuge. The best PBP ever. Way better than any PBP by Obama. Sad! Hamberder.
We actually do have instant coffee in North America, Van. We’re just giving you a hard time.
Must admit I googled it as soon as I saw it here. I’m wondering if it can’t be used instead of corn starch to thicken my beef stew to add extra extra flavor.
There was a time when instant mashed potatoes had a gravy package attached to them I used to get them, keep the gravy package and toss the potatoes. It was a good add in for when I did a roast beef or chicken.
Although, they didn’t call them gravy granules, which is why I didn’t know what Van meant for that.
Yes, I have used gravy granules to thicken gravy made from
Meat juices.
Gravy Granules was one of the best villains from the Adam West Batman TV show.
Crap joke for the day you may not get if you haven’t seen old ads for a certain brand of German car:
A German guy approaches a prostitute and says, “I vish to buy sex vit you.”
“OK” says the girl, “I’ll charge £20 an hour.”
“Ist goot, but I must varn you, I am a little kinky.”
“No problem,” she replies cautiously, “I can do a little kinky.” So off they go to the girl’s flat, where the German produces four large bedsprings and a duck caller. I vant you to tie ze springs to each of your limbs.
“The girl finds this most odd, but complies, fastening the springs to her elbows and knees.
“Now you vill get on your hans und knees.” She duly does this, balancing on the springs.
“You vill please blow zis vistle as I make love to you.” She find this odd, but it’s harmless, and after all the guy is paying well. The sex is fantastic.
She is bounced all over the room by the energetic German, all the time honking on the duck caller. The climax is the most sensational that she has ever experienced and it is several minutes before she has recovered her breath to say:
“That was totally amazing, where did you learn how to do that?”
“Ah,” says the German, “Four-sprung duck technique”
Yes but where does the instant gravey come in to play?
Achtung, baby.
I decided to take today off
I’ve been wanting to posit this comment, to get reactions. . . I just don’t want to ask on FB, because I’ll come back 2 hours later and see people yelling about SJWs and Last Jedi in the comments. So here goes:
John Williams’s best piece of music – – simply taken as a pure listening experience, removing all movie associations – – is:
The main Superman Theme.
Curious.
I’ll have to give it a listen.
He has been quit the prolific film score guy.
He is probably my pic for “most grandiose” film score composer but I might go with Danny Elfman as my favorite. Randy Newman and Williams being tied in a close second.
I think Williams has far more “range” in style and feel of his music but Elfman and Newman absolutely crush it within their specific sub-genre.
There’s also a separate place to debate the best 20th Century film composers. Elfman, Kamen, Newman, Horner – – all in that mix – – but for my money, that honor also goes to John Williams.
Hell, I don’t think there was a greater or more important 20th Century musician of any genre than John Williams.
ooooh that would be an impressive list of film composers and a fun debate!
Yeh, I just hadn’t heard it in a long time.
I will give him his due as perhaps the most influential and probably even the best but I don’t think he’s my favorite. Under his top songs though, you’ve got to include the Olympic theme he wrote for the Summer Games some years back. As you would expect, it’s pretty epic.
Jack, you have given the correct answer.
why is the best piece of his music to you?
Without dissecting it. . . It’s pretty simple, but it’s the most powerful and stirring. It transitions seamlessly from the rousing opening number to the more romantic “Can you read my mind” interlude, then back to the main theme. And the dramatic key change for the same melody in the final section is really powerful.
We watched the NetFlix series, Better Than Us. (well, ok, we have one episode left). The main villain has scotch glasses that have divots in them so they rock. We thought they were cool enough we ordered a set for ourselves.
While this is not exactly product placement, it still had no effect on us. Nope, nope, nope.
…and the trailer features not one actor with glasses.
/rolls eyes
Do nerds mend scotch glasses with scotch tape?
This takes place in the near future. Maybe glasses were outdated by then
I spent weeks entering stuff in a database for Booknet Canada. They asked me to do a backwards conversion. Not only did the backwards conversion not work, it deleted the original file. Of course, I didn’t think of doing a backup save of the thing first. I basically lost 2/3 of my database (I did have a back up of the file from a couple of weeks ago).
I could just cry.
Stephen King couldn’t come up with a tale this horrifying.
I actually watched the new It the other day. It actually wasn’t too bad. Better than the new Pet Cemetery anyway.
I thought It Chapter 1 was excellent. Effectively scary and unsettling. Chapter 2 is out this weekend, isn’t It?
Out in the UK, I saw it last night, did jump a couple of times.
I’m actually pissed now. Instead of reading this, let’s re-watch Mellody Hobson’s TED Talk on being color brave instead of color blind
The new Tool album lives up to expectations. For an album who’s songs (not including interludes) average 12 minutes long, only one feels like it. The rest breeze by at a sonic level unprecedented. It’s good.
whose. Fuck off autoToolcorrect
I caught one of the songs on one of the internet radio stations I listen to. It was really good!
I was amazed. Not last decade’s Tool.
Morning Pan
A wet and chilly morning. Hubby actually turned on the fireplace for the first time since mid spring
We had to replace one of the switches in our washroom. The switches are white. The one we got looked white in the package but is not quite as white as the switch that is currently in the washroom. It’s actually quite noticeable having one very white switch and one less white switch side by side.
“It was written by a songwriter, son of a Flemish farmer, who hated punk. Just for fun he wrote (a parody of) a punk/disco song to fill a B-side of a single. He is a Belgian who usually wrote… Brazilian dance music. The music and the lyrics were meant to ridiculize the punk genre.”
If you don’t know the song, yes you do.
Interesting indeed!
The JW’s just came to the door. They like to visit us because hubby and I are willing to engage. We all know we will never agree on things, but there is nothing wrong with a little civil discourse and debate now and then
Did they leave angry?
No. Like I said, it was a friendly and civil debate on both sides
Next time the show, tell them you talk with them but only if they will play a board game with you guys.
Not to give them a hard time … but just to see if they are any fun! 🙂
Do you think they’d like to play Witch of Salem?
Good. Sometimes these things start off cordial, but turn ugly when you aren’t immediately converted.
Alas, I finally gave up somewhere in episode 4. It felt like it was just trying to be edgy for the sake of edginess without really being entertaining.
Nah. This was a brilliant brilliant show. Smarter than most of the Superhero films that preceded it and far more entertaining than 90% of the stuff out there. It’s a near perfect show.
I liked it. I don’t disagree with Ed, but I think there was enough substance underneath the shock to keep it going.
Well it only took them 100 years to realise the mistake:
He must have been under the influence of Kilgrave.
I had one of those moments in a conference call yesterday when I saw myself in the camera view of the full room and went, “Hey, why is my dad in this meeting?”
Ha!
I think I’m going to try an experiment
I make tea and put it in the fridge for making iced tea later. I think I’m going to put it through my soda stream and see if I can get carbonated ice tea
It turns out tea foams when you carbonate it. I have 2/3 carbonated ice tea in the bottle and 1/3 all over my counter.
Tastes good though!
The counter?
It’s why they specifically tell you to only carbonate water in the instructions.
I can’t believe that Coca-Cola or PepsiCo haven’t released some kind of bubbly fizzy iced tea.
I can’t have caffeine so I can’t have store bought ice teas
I went to this FREE talk yesterday.
It was brilliant.

All,
As our next offering in the Pass the Torch Series, we have a very special and unique lecture for you to hear. Mr. David Concannon, an explorer, photographer, author, diver, and specialist in deep water search and recovery will share his adventures as he and his Jeff Bezos (Amazon, etc.) partners describe the recovery of Saturn Apollo F-1 first stage engines from the Atlantic Ocean. David, who was also involved in the filming and recovery of Titanic components, will speak to how and why they decided to recover the Saturn engines from 14,000 feet of ocean 400 miles off the coast of Florida. This will be a most interesting story, explaining the special techniques required to accomplish such a feat.
That sounds boring. Couldn’t they book the “cash me outside” girl?
But seriously, folks …
How big are those engines? Fishing them out must have been ridiculous.
Fun first night with the crew in SD! Delicious ice cream after waiting in line at the Salt & Straw. After a delicious swordfish sammich at Mitch’s.
Managed to reserve the new iPhone today, which came as a surprise as it normally takes weeks of trying.
I’m probably ordering mine today. Yesterday was about researching/weighing options on which one to get. Today is about sitting with my salesperson to make sure I get the best deal.
I’m on the Apple upgrade program, so no deals to be had.
The Apple upgrade program is a deal in and of itself. I was considering buying the device straight from apple to get that program. But talking to Verizon, that same deal works if you get the device through them. That’s the plan I’m going on now.
So San Diego Zoo is bloody huge and we are just near the entrance.
So that was impressive, although I suspect TEB would have not been impressed with the penguin enclosure :-p
TEB would also not appreciate the many huge spiderwebs on the property.
Van, you’ve seen our penguins. In SD, could you get close enough that, if it was allowed, you could touch them?
Was about to post. Dammit. Brilliance incarnate. Not just a singer but genius songwriter and producer
Definitely sad news. His face in the “You Might Think” video was a huge part of the 80s. Hence my young teen years. RIP
Well frack.
I was just listening to Candy-O last week for the first time in years and remembering how much I loved that album.
Damn.
Well that was a very pleasant day.
Morning Pan
It’s rather foggy out this morning
We are in the middle of watching Carnival Row, so of course, hubby downloaded the free RPG rules that have been released for the show
Well at the airport, waiting to fly home.
Another great meet-up. Lovely to see everybody again and JR Murdock for the first time (his local knowledge was a great help).
Thanks to Ed for the driving and arranging the hotel and Amy for the driving and hanging out with me for a few hours to save me from airport hell.
Here, here*
*Or is it “hear, hear?”
Home again! Thanks Uber Rhett for the lift! Thanks everyone for a blast of a weekend!
I am returned to Texas in tact. It was indeed a great weekend, though we did miss so many. JR is the MVP!
Agreed. JR, you were an invaluable resource for the weekend!
Things I said I would post here so they wouldn’t be lost or forgotten:
1) This will be the year we continue Star Wars: Edge of the Empire over Discord/Roll20! All the setup has already been done; we just need to agree to a date and time. (Preferably late Saturday night in the US, which is early Sunday morning for Van.)
2) The 5 of us who had breakfast together this morning (me, Jack, Rhettro, Van, and Ed) all agreed that attending Sausagefest at Archon 2020 is a strong contender among our ideas for the next MMMMMeetup. We’ll need to reach out to Tony and find out about the pros and cons of the main con hotel vs. any overflow hotels, and how early they book up. (Personally, as a longtime, experienced congoer, I don’t think there’s anything really wrong with being in a hotel that isn’t the main host hotel for a con, as long as it’s in a somewhat reasonable walking distance.)
By the way, I just read back through some of the previous comments and realized I should share the announcement I made on Friday on this page:
This past Thursday, for the first time, I finally submitted a show to the Apple podcast directory for approval! I haven’t heard back yet, but Movie Chat with the Movie Night Crew should be accessible to a wide audience sometime in the near future. That also means that if we want to do any more communal watches of movies (like “The Andromeda Strain” or any others we never go to before), I volunteer to compile and publish any resulting audio.
Well I would still like Canada to be on the table at some point.
So would I!! Would love to visit.
I’d enjoy a Canadialand Mmmmmmeetup too.
Got to Heathrow but my connecting flight doesn’leave till 1820.
Yeah, pretty disgusted at some things I came home to. Nothing inside my home or with Tiffany. Just bullshit.
It’s an election year here in Canada Land. Unlike you sully Americans, even though the election is in November, we are only now starting to see ads.
I’m so glad our election doesn’t span years
Ditto, I probably asked this last election but, do you do absentee voting for Canadian elections?
No, I don’t.
I will have to interrupt my journey home so I can buy some milk.
What’s that all about?

When those new travel regulations kick in I would recommend any US deadpanners to get a passport over a photo id card.
Just saying..cough
Ok, I had to speak to hubby before I committed to a Canadian Mmmmeetup. Despite what Van may have seen, he is the ultimate introvert and I had to make sure he would be up for it. He is.
If we do a Canadian Mmmmeetup, I would suggest either June or September. Everything is open but you miss the vacationer crowds. You still have to be at places when they open, though. Van can attest to what the line ups were like as we were leaving places.
We don’t own a BBQ so Saturday dinner would have to be order in.
It must be said: This was a huge imposition and assumption. . . . So – – many thanks to you and hubby for being so gracious.
I do still need to get my travel documents in order.
Well it’s past 1am and I’m wide awake.
Sigh.

So it was dicy, but we made it to the Iron Maiden concert last night. Amazing, of course – – but the real magic was sharing this with the elder daughter. She was interested, this wasn’t just me dragging her along.
Afterwards, she wanted a t-shirt, and said she really enjoyed it. So that’s the major win of the night.
Well looks like I will be getting a new iPhone this weekend.

I watched “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” last night. That was more fun than I expected. And it probably set a record for the number of times motherfucker was said during a movie.
So I covered the band, Fozzy, last night. I can’t promise that anyone here would love them, but they were nice guys. Their lead singer is the pro wrestler, Chris Jericho. I only met him for a minute, but he was cool. I talked mostly to their guitar player, Rich Ward.
I’m all for it. A lot of people didn’t like season 3 but I thought it was the best written, best acted season yet
What were the objections to S3? I thought S2 was a little shaky, but this last one was the best yet.
That said, I’m OK with it ending strong at S4, rather than dragging it out.
“Shakey” was the term most used for s3. There seemed to be objections to taking to focus off the wrestling which makes no sense. W/O the character development the wrestling means little
Dammit Neil, now I want to read a book of Norwegian Folktales.
We watched “Bohemian Rhapsody” last night and enjoyed it quite a bit.
I gave it two thumbs up.
Van, would you have been affected by the Thomas Cook collapse if you hadn’t done your US travel yet?
Nope, I only used them once in 1999 when I booked a ferry trip to France for seeing the eclipse that year.
They did an amazing job getting the actors to look just like their real-life counterparts.
The Waters of Mars is still a creepy, well-executed David Tennant episode.
One of the most hated episodes in a Doctor Who group I was in.
Interesting. Did you share that hate? Was it because people didn’t like him going off the rails a bit at the end?
On rewatching DT’s episode I came to the realisation that the Doctor was pretty much an arsehole during his run.
But yeah, not much love from me on that episode.
The plot was pretty bad as well.
Disagree on every point!
He has some asshole moments, but overall, he’s possibly the most empathic of all the Doctors, except maybe Baker and Davison. His crazy “I can do anything!!” stuff at the end was just establishing that his time was coming to an end.
The plot is standard Doctor Who fare, but with a pretty clever concept and genuinely spooky “monsters.” (Don’t bring science into it – – this is Doctor Who). And the monster fodder in this one were a lot more interesting than the usual.
In conclusion, you and your group are wrong.
Hah! He has a series of asshole moments.
It is you sir that is wrong.
It’s been a looong moment since I watched that episode but I recalled liking it and thinking it had a good, spooky vibe.
I’m kinda fascinated by that comment, actually. I don’t consider myself a Who/Tennant scholar, but I really can’t recall any times when he (the 10th Doctor) was unreasonably harsh. I’m not trying to troll you, I’d really like more on this – – especially since he’s everyone’s favorite.
Well if you rewatch how he treats Martha who is besotted with him compared to how Matt Smith’s doc treats Amy, both want to fuck their doctor.

Cool!

It was cool to see it at the cinema, the restored footage looked amazing.

Crap joke for the day:
This one is especially terrible.

So tonight’s cult classic was National Lampoon’s Vacation.

On buying an electric car:
http://www.robertjacksonbennett.com/blog/what-its-like-to-own-an-electric-car

This is the longest we’ve been apart in a single stretch in our 23 years of marriage
I think, in a half hour or so, i’ll watch a movie
Ok Pan, it’s movie time
Today’s movie is Soul to Keep
The write up: Beelzebub, a powerful demon hellbent to possess and consume souls, goes after siblings and their lifelong friends at a rundown country house.
Can’t go wrong with that
Quoting Willie Wagstaff
Starting i the middle of the story
Artwork of evil
That goat has been everywhere
Do your boobs hang low?
Gee, a run down building by a lake. That’s not tropey at all
Someone liked his hunting trophies
No phone reception! I didn’t see that coming
A locked basement. I wonder what’s down there?
Smoochies!
Drinking party
She hears a child
So far, nothing in this movie is original
What the hell are they doing with that balloon?
Girl talk
Who unlocked the basement door?
The lights went out
They’ve shown that chainsaw a number of times now, foreshadowing?
Time to enter the, formally, locked basement, armed only with a flashlight
Nope, no tropes here
A hidden room
Let’s try the spell book found in the hidden room
Peer pressure
First! The protection spell
Now, the summoning spell
Yes, let’s as the biggest and strongest to be the “vessel” and get possessed by the demon.
These things would resolve quicker if it was the weakest that was possessed
Oh oh, she plans to continue
Time to get wasted, again
She’s freaking out
The demon has the munchies
Sex time
She’s unsatisfied
Two guys wasn’t enough, now the demon is pleasing herself
Really, what is up with the balloons?
For a forbidden basement, people seem to go down there a lot
Now there are two
Demon sex
Grace is being a bitch
Yup, the spell worked
He’s outta here
Oh look, the car doesn’t start
A demon can’t open locked doors?
An invisible barrier
Putting out the call
And here comes number four
How do we put grace to sleep?
Washroom break! Seriously, I’m pausing to go to the washroom
But first, kitty needs a tummy scrub
Ok, where was I…
Oh yeas, the backup plan
Was she in time?
Erin, lock the door
Time to hide
Isn’t this more or less where we started?
And all is revealed
Read the spell
Stop you rake
She’ll never read for you now
Aren’t we clever
Burying Erin
And the (predictable) end twist
Well, it was a movie
But what happened with the kitty tummy scrub? We’re on the edges of of our seats!
Tummy’s were scribed. Purrs were created.
Now she’s just staring at me because it’s almost dinner time
Scribed = scrubbed

“If you did read the comics before, this show may disappoint you. It took away too many elements that made the comics great. Hard to say it’s not good though, the production is solid and you may actually enjoy it.”

I think Jack and I should watch it with the eldest girl. That would be a most excellent movie night, IMO.
I did love the first one, though I only saw it once in the theater.
While generally not a fan of the whole zombie genre, I did enjoy the first Zombieland a lot. Hopefully this sequel that live up to the original.

Sounds like the GRRM narrative style.

Crap joke for the evening:
After a short pause, the rabbit said …
‘Mixin-me-toasties

cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Re-watched Infinity War last night. We plan to finally see End Game tonight.
I thought we had a pretty good discussion here about it: http://jackmangan.com/a-vengers-discussion/
It’s not too late, if you want to chime in there tomorrow.
My floors are nice and clean. Ready for another week
It’s kinda weird. I actually have a few irons in the fire right now. It’s looking to be a very busy fall – – but with cool shit.
BTW, Derek wasn’t at WWC so I couldn’t say hi.
I did say hi to Tim for you. For some reason, he thought you lived in the UK.
Thank you! Maybe he’s been sending my royalty checks to Jack Mangan, the Irish pro football star.
I had not heard of this, but – – cool.

I don’t want to work, but I don’t have a drum. What’s a girl to do?
You should still bang on something all day.
Wow, does that convey differently in text.
😀
I’m all about the premise of this article, but holy crap did Slate drop the ball.
Put more politely: very few of their choices resonate with me.
https://slate.com/culture/2019/08/most-important-characters-movies-tv-books-21st-century.html?utm_source=pocket-newtab

CR: Infractus by Sarah Johnson
I finished the first 3 storylines of The Boys, which was definitely crude and over-the-top – – but still actually pretty smart and good. I’m curious about the show.
After finishing that, I started “The Accidental Tourist.” I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in history to ever jump from reading “The Boys” comic to “The Accidental Tourist.”

Yes. This is the one that puts me over the top for Disney+.
Goodbye to an easy rider:
https://trib.al/kNL7hOC
I hate to be the one to say this, but I thought he was already gone. He and Hopper were truly great in that movie. RIP
I still have not seen Easy Rider (except I caught the end of the film one evening).
My first memory of seeing him
In a film was watching Futureworld at the cinema.
I think it was big for that generation. There’s a speech from Jack Nicholson that’s really memorable, but otherwise, it didn’t do much for me.
That final scene that you saw is also pretty well-known.
So here I am at the office on a Saturday morning. Not even doing anything because the system is down.
RIP, Kip Adotta.

I must correct you Ed, the Blacklist version was from Emika… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-9Xr1a9LQ4
and this is the first I’ve heard it. And you may have turned me on to a favorite version just now.
You know, my comment would have made a whole lot more sense if I had pasted the link to the Emika version that I intended to.
But, as long and you’re converted, I’m good 🙂
Those are both excellent, but I do unabashedly love the Chris Isaak original.
This instrumental version from Vika Yermolyeva is a little bit different, but still lovely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxhMDHQpko8

There’s this little black kitten that keeps hanging around our house. I have the bedroom window open and it was watching me fold laundry. I felt really bad for it because I wouldn’t let it in.

Yes. Though, honestly, unless they are going to break lots of things, it’s hard to see how much life a series like this can have.

I am hubbiless this evening

Once you sign up for a disney account, you can join D23, and that is when it can take up to 36 hours to send you the link for the Disney+ signup.
http://www.d23.com
Offer expires 9/2.
No shit?

Do they always have orange jam? That just seems odd and wrong in a cookie.
Wikipedia says they can have other flavors. I just didn’t see any. I think they are using more of an orange marmalade than a jam. Either that or they’re just using really bitter oranges.

I needed to get something done, and with an internet outage at home, I popped out to a local coffee shop for Wi-fi, and got the extra horror of Fox News’s coverage of this.
This place is broken.
Short documentary that inspired Kubrick:

Happy Birthday Ed from Texas.
Happy Texas from Ed, Birthday!
Happy Ed from Birthday and happy belated Tcat yesterbirthday!
Happy birthday Tcat
And to all a good night!
…no wait, that’s not it.
The problem with hubby working in a germ factory is he regularly catches colds. I better not get this one
A germ factory? Is that what they’re manufacturing in Calgary schools?
Happy Birthdays to Ed and Tcat! <3
xoxox
Happy birthday, Ed from Finland!
Happy belated birthday to T-Cat!
Clippers all over at setting 3. I feel like a stressed out chihuahua now.
Thanks everyone. I’ll pass along the birthday wishes. 😀

Day late, happy Birthday wishes to T-Cat and Ed!
Hmmmm
T-Cat and Ed … now there’s a quirky, cop drama I’d watch.
But who’s the good cop and who’s the bad cop? 😉
CP: Gonna Fly Now — Bill Conti
I had my doubts but the trailer has convinced me to watch it when it hits the cinema:
https://youtu.be/tL4McUzXfFI
Wow!
This could go very, very wrong.
Or be absolutely brilliant.
But …
Well, I’m go to trust Scarlett Johansson
Wouldn’t be envolved if it was bad … because she’s pretty.
I’m going to do a play by play in a few minutes. As soon as I get downstairs and in front of the tv.
Two things.
1) Since I haven’t figured out how to get laundry to fold itself, I’ll have to pause half way through the movie to fold said laundry.
2) One thing in every post of the play by play will be wrong. Whether it’s the time of day, the gender of a character, the name of a character, etc. one thing will be wrong. Of course, unless you actually watch the movie, you’ll never know what’s wrong with my description 😉
Is #2 in honor of the Presidential twitter account?
I honestly didn’t think of that (Canadian remember?) At least I’m being upfront and honest about my dishonesty.
Ok, here we go
Today’s movie is Look away
The Netflix write up
she had secret desires to inflict harm on those who wronged her. Until the mirror image made them a reality
(This is the real write up. The lying doesn’t start until the movie does)
We know that rabbit lives
I’m so happy
Good afternoon
This school is different than most
Figure skating is fun to watch
She’s smoking in the boys room
… but pretty forgettable every where else.
(Rim shot)
Yes, do it
She’s looking forward to prom
There’s something wrong with their son
There’s Nothing there
Did he have a twin?
She’s getting off in the bedroom
That wasn’t creepy at all
Don’t be afraid
Her dad is the bestest
His mirror self is wrong
Saved by the blue car
He didn’t mean it
No nudity in this movie
He hears dead people
You’re the real deal
She remembers everything
Why to later
She’s not beautiful
Time for dinner
Her parents are perfectly normal
Ok, time for a reality break. My washing machine just beeped so I must deal with my laundry
Ok, I’m back. Now where was I?
Oh yes…
He wants to make out with the boyfriend
Wow, that’s a colourful room
Ummm…?
They are not screwing
She’s happy to see people she knows
Sometimes, daddy is just dumb
He cares
That’s exactly what she wanted
Mom is a strong woman
She has a perfectly normal daughter
He doesn’t think she should be medicated
The dreams will go away
A beautiful spring day
Let go
Best friend ever
In her little blue dress
I trust her
She’s so thrilled
Nobody can skate in this school
She’s having fun
She doesn’t need anybody
Do it
I don’t see a difference
Why doesn’t he ever wash his hands
She’s so sorry
She’s so funny
No revenge happening here
She loves him
She’s being sweet
I see nothing noble in suicide pacts, especially when one person is mentally ill and the other is physically ill. So after 30 odd years there now some pushback in the accepted narrative of Alice Sheldon’s Suicide:
https://t.co/CN08l1kPm5
Fun times are about to happen
Daddy’s working late
Another warm and beautiful day
Smoking in the boys room again
Everybody loves being stalked
He’s going to skate every day
They’re getting along just dandy
Time to be honest
She loves being mirror girl
She lives
She’s a good girl
She hates him
She’s making him comfortable
This is the right thing to do
I’d eat that
She loves looking in the mirror
Sad! Hamberder.
https://www.tor.com/2019/09/03/hbos-watchmen-adaptation-gets-official-debut-date/#more-495288
Honestly, I don’t want this. I want what Zack Snyder almost did perfectly in the movie – – just with the proper bugfuck insane ending from the comics.
This
Fingers crossed that we’re not getting a whole new round of bozo nightmares.
Finger, toes, whippet’s legs, too!
(see next post)
In lighter news: https://screenrant.com/alien-3-xenomorph-dog-whippet-costume/
It seems that the xenomorph pissed on the floor and leapt up to destroy the loaf of bread on the counter.
HA!!!!!!!
Seems like this idea would’ve been better suited for the Resident Evil franchise?
amirite?
Finished the project I was hoping to today. Next, year end.
Today I tried a more expensive brand of gravy granules.
I won’t Be buying that brand again.
Ok, I gotta ask, what are gravy granules?
Like instant coffee but for gravy, add hot water for instant gravy.
If your next question is “what is gravy?” I may scream…
What’s instant coffee?
And do you put this “gravy” into your instant coffee?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_coffee
Are you saying you don’t know John Williams’s Superman Theme song?
Or you just need a relisten?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78N2SP6JFaI
This is why trump will get re-elected. https://www.scarymommy.com/digital-blackface/
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me with this.

Well I’m almost packed, getting to the airport tomorrow will be ‘fun’ as the Great North Run is happening tomorrow.
I’m mentally preparing for a day of fuck ups.
Well finally completed my watch of S3 of The Man in the High Castle.
Compared to S2 it has a rather subdued ending but left me looking forward to the S4 which is going to be the final season.
Much as I have liked seasons 1-3, I’m ready for the story to wrap.
All good things and all that jazz.
Welp, the drastic new ‘do is up on FB now. My hair’s kinda messy in the picture, though.
I may have posted this before, but what do you boardgamers think of this:

Up front cost will always be a problem with these sorts of things, unless you can convince your friends to buy the gear as well.
Neat. A novelty – – for now – – but I look forward seeing the practical and innovative ways those are used.

Deadpan mornings without Bunny are weird. #notaguilttripthisisasocialplacenotaresponsibility
You do like to tease Jack
LOL
Bunny just lost track of time. Sometimes work, followed by immersing oneself in a book will do that
Hubby and I kicked it old school last night and watched Terminator 2. It still held up
Hey Jack
Way back when, you mentioned us watching/reading something like The Andromeda Strain for a work broadcast. Is that still happening or did I miss it?
I’m down for a communal watch – – but I jumped ship in June/July from the vaccine company, so I’m not doing that podcast anymore.
I mean, of course we could all watch and record our thoughts in some kind of compiled audio file. . .
Original or that newer one?
I’d vote original…. But I’m down for either.
Before you know it, we’ll become astronauts on some kind of star trek….
I could get addicted to Kahlua Mudslides..just saying.

Lo Van highly recommend Ready or Not
Morning Pan
A wet and chilly morning. Hubby actually turned on the fireplace for the first time since mid spring
We had to replace one of the switches in our washroom. The switches are white. The one we got looked white in the package but is not quite as white as the switch that is currently in the washroom. It’s actually quite noticeable having one very white switch and one less white switch side by side.
https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-English-translation-to-the-lyrics-of-%C3%87a-Plane-Pour-Moi-by-Plastic-Bertrand
I had no idea.

Well a pleasant walk around Denver Zoo was had.
CW: The Boys S1E2
Got Lo hooked on this series.
It’s a good series.

I kind of want to get this book

I went to this FREE talk yesterday.
It was brilliant.
—————-
All,
As our next offering in the Pass the Torch Series, we have a very special and unique lecture for you to hear.
Nope, they were wellsealed off from the public.

I’m leaving on a jet plane..

That is all
Well I would still like Canada to be on the table at some point.
CP: Pigs On The Wing (Part One) — Pink Floyd
A shelter. . . .from pigs on the wing. . .
I loved the pics and posts from SD over the weekend. Glad you all had a fun time.
Home at last!

Still rather surprised it was that easy this year.

So I covered the band, Fozzy, last night. I can’t promise that anyone here would love them, but they were nice guys. Their lead singer is the pro wrestler, Chris Jericho. I only met him for a minute, but he was cool. I talked mostly to their guitar player, Rich Ward.
I also hung out a little bit with Jonah James Nichols. This guy is a monster on the guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU06c_Gxh7U He plays with no pick!
Was it a smackdown?
I mistook the guitar players name as “Rich Wad”.
He would get all the girls.
TBH we bought their first album when it came out because we actually watched WCW religiously. It’s not a bad album but I can’t say I ever revisited it
I brought home sushi for lunch. Kitty loves sharing my lunch today
Do they also use wasabi, soy sauce, and ginger to enhance the flavors?
On the side, not in the sushi itself. I can’t see kitty liking wasabi

Sigh, at least we will get a S4:
https://deadline.com/2019/09/netflix-hands-female-wrestling-drama-glow-fourth-final-season-1202739435/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Ooops, my above comment to Van should not be a reply.
Ugh

I think I’ll go in and get my hair trimmed later today. Hubby simply attacks his head with clippers. I threatened to do the same to my hair. This was one of the rare times he he gave me his opinion on my hair. It was a resounding no.

Just back from the Vet. The cat’s last stitches have been removed and (the best news) he no longer has to wear that cone !!!
Great news JJ.
Glad to hear kitty is getting better
Great news! Although, no one is happier to lose the cone than the kitty.
The water in the spray bottle at the hair cut place was frikken cold. It’s like they kept it in the fridge or something.

Mixed feeling about this article. I liked the Amber books well enough, but if I were one of the legions who love love this series, I’d be a bit miffed at the backhanded compliments.

16 year old Greta Thunberg – in front of the UN special meeting on Monday
Trump’s response –
“We respect the curouge it took for this young adult to speak in front of such a group and her interest in world affairs. However, we respectfully disagree with her assessments and hope that she will look further into this situation.”
BWAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!
No. Here was his real response –
“She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
What . an . asshole.
I’d just advise people not to fixate on anyone who has horrible things to say about her. Take note, probably unfriend, then move on. No one needs that kind of stress.
I unfriended Trump decades ago
Talking to Tech support. It’s own kind of hell?
Actually, this one’s not too bad. He’s answering my questions. It’s just time consuming.
ha! I’ve stumped him.
This is not a good thing
My tech support person is named Alvin. I picture him with a high squeaky voice.
Boy never heard that one before.
Well, online chat tech support couldn’t help. He had to put in an actual ticket. Who knows when I’ll have my issue resolved.
This is my day-to-day. I can tell that that’s a bad sign.

Yep. This needs to happen. Sadly, his fans are going to ramp up from dangerous whiny bitches to actively dngerous screaming and rampaging bitches. It’s kinda fucking terrifying, but we as a society need to call out evil, especially when it sits on our thrones.

Today it’s a little chilly. They are saying to expect snow by the weekend.
There. 2.5 washrooms cleaned. Bed stripped and remade, 1st of three loads of laundry in the wash. And I even got some work done.

My inspirobot for today –
“Ignore the fact that your heart doesn’t respect you.”
I called my ISP yesterday to inform them that even though I was paying for 100 MB Internet speed, for the last year I have rarely gotten above 20 MB and even then it’s only been to 30mb. From their end, they couldn’t see anything was wrong and then … my phone call got cut off.
Oddly enough I immediately had 110 MB of service. As of this morning it’s vacillating between 20 and 50.
