I had something similar as a kid but not that exactly. Sometimes I still can find what I was used to in a remote gas station but I wouldn’t chance buying it.
hmmm. I didn’t even think to add salty to the package I sent Jack and Pixie.
I recall that Kraft Dinner is seen as far superior to Kraft Mac n Cheese.
Not lately. Since they changed the formula, the noodles break up and turn all mushy.
Catch you on the other side of the pond.
Compared to a 747, the 787 seems tiny.
I know one shouldn’t revel in people’s bad luck, but a missed connection means I’ve got an aisle seat.
And speaking of the frozen north – – Happy Canada Day!
Was never into the original (or that 90s movie), but hey, maybe Netflix will do it right.
So far, Van’s plane is running on time. Still five hours to go before his plane lands. Then is the long walk from the plane to customs.
All our games are packed, but hubby and I kept out four games to introduce Van to. Legendary, Tsurro, Lords of Waterdeep, and Ticket to Ride.
A nice cross section
I’ve thought briefly about coming up with a rule to allow you to call certain routes in Ticket to Ride, before laying pieces on them.
We play a friendly game, but we’ve also seen some frustrations boil over from someone innocently taking a track that they had no idea was desperately needed by someone else.
Cutthroat TTR would be seriously evil.
I’ve played with someone who would deliberately block a line you were obviously working on. Sometimes to the detriment of his own tracks. We no longer play T2R with him. Actually, we only played cooperative games with him after a couple of games of Catan that turned rather mean as well.
I much prefer to “play nice” to the point, hubby will sometimes laugh at me as I’ve been known to lose when helping someone else win.
I bet a game of Munchkin with that guy would end up in a fist fight.
I’m reminded of Rimmer’s risk story in Red Dwarf.
Van’s plane is now running about a half hour late.
He probably otalked the pilots into letting him run it with his Raspberry Pi
Any ETA on his Vanliness?
This time tomorrow I shall (hopefully) be landing Phoenix.
Then immediately driving to Sedona. Followed by the Western Rim then the South Rim and then back to Scottsdale for Friday night.
… by that point I suspect I shall need a beer. Fortunately, I hear they have them there.
Enjoy! Sedona is incredible.
In theory, Van’s flight will be landing in a little over an hour
I’m sorry Lo, but I’m not sure what you want me to see. I just go to Twitter’s home page
Well Pan. Off to the airport
At the airport. Van’s plane isn’t landing for another 10 minutes. Then there is the walk down the long hallway, followed by customs, and more walking. I doubt I’ll not see him for half an hour at least
Oh, the Vanticipation!
Playing the waiting game
So glad it isnt the Crying Game
The Vanster has landed
Vaaaaantastic!
Vantabulous!!!!
Oh, Vanada!
Van is learning how to operate the comfy chair
Well, no one expects the Spanish Inquisition….
Ed! Where in North America are you?
Welcome back to the continent Van
Van is incontinent?
The future is a bitch.
My first Canadian Sunset!
It was a long walk.
Customs was surprisingly efficient, TEB assures me I must have come on a good day.
The burning question for tomorrow, do Kellogs produce crunchy nut cornflakes in Canada.?
I’m sure the eyes of that Teddy Bear follow me around the room..
Remember that your host requests more teddy bear heads.
As for the 787, smaller it may well be, but the entertainment system was more modern..16:9 aspect ratio on the LCDs..welcome to the 21st century.
Currently in a Friday’s in Dallas.
Watching football.
Go Italy!
Futbol
I suppose you could be watching football on Friday in Fort Worth.
Those damned merciless Huns.
Tonights TV viewing is spiced with Tornado warnings, thankfully not that close.
We introduced Van to Ticket to Ride. He asked for a second game so I assume he liked it well enough
Van won one game and I won one game. Playing a third. With luck, hubby will win this one
Justa, were you in the E concourse Friday’s at DFW? I’m pretty much Norm there!
Oh are you actually trying to start a conversation here? tsk tsk
Ha! I should have name dropped while I wAs there.
Yup. We all won one game each of Ticket to Ride
I won two games of Tsurro and tied for first on the third game. I guess that means I won all three games
Yeah that was cool, I knowcwhatcto do in the iPad version now.
Tsurro is a fun, quick little game. I believe we’re indebted to the Bunny for that one :).
TtR is more of an investment, but it’s a good one. We’ve only ever played the North America map, basic and also with the 1910 expansion. If we played more often, I’d be down for one of the other maps.
We have several version of T2R including Marklin and Europe. They ar all packed though, so we have to settle for the original
It does look like fun times are being had in Calgary!
I installed TtR on my iPad, the computer is kicking my ass.
Showed Van the Penguins. He conceded I wasn’t exaggerating when I would talk about them
Van tried the zoo’s poutine. I may have a convert. He seemed to quite like it
The zoo was fun and the whole setup was respectful of thevanimal’s welfare, some big enclosures.
Was nice? We’re still here. We are going to watch them feed the Komodo dragons
As a slow Time traveller I get confused by my tenses.
Mmmm, toxic drool
The young lady doing the talk assured us that the toxic drool theory has now been discredited.
We are enjoying the amusement rides at Heritage Park
We are being kicked out of the house while a potential buyer does a walk through. We are going to show Van the wonder of a Canadian mall
We have now retreated to Chapters, book, books and somethings you don’t normally see in a book shop.
Watched the season opener of Killjoys. Now going to introduce Van to Legendary
Evil won. We all lost
Muwhaaa!!!
Dr Doom is our new overlord.
My first victory on Ticket to Ride on the iPad.
I’ve introduced everyone here to the joys of Elder Sign on the tablet. I should check out TTR.
I may be singing in the rain later, there will even be an umbrella…
Photos please š Even better if you have a fedora
No one has time for that š
Happy Birthday, ‘Merica
Hmm. Seems Finding Dory is making a little bit of money.
I hate to say something so un-‘Merican on July 4th, but I forgot to say yesterday how much I detest Costco.
Agreed. Tried it once, never again
Costco does have many useful deals.
Costco doesn’t actually want anyone shopping at it’s store. Everything I disliked about Costco when I tried a year membership is pretty much an on purpose design choice.
Did all the rides to Heritage Park. Now sitting down to lunch at the Wainwright Hotel
My family has fled to Kansas for the Forth holiday. I’m wifeless and kidless until they return on Wednesday. I guess it’s a good time to print and learn the alternate coop rules for X-Wing Miniatures, “Heroes of the Aturi Cluster”. You can read about it here: http://dockingbay416.com/campaign/ . Jack was gracious enough to print me a manual. It seems the first mission is trying to get the playing cards to print correctly using Windows 10.
They came at a great time. It’s lovely here.
I doubt we will be on the same flight on Wednesday, but if we are I will say hello š
That’d be pretty cool.
Four hours later and I’m still on the first mission. Just completed the side quest which required me to drive to Office Max for more printer ink and photo paper.
Office Max. You’ll not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
It’s raining. I forgot to bring the umbrellas. We are wet
I bet the water droplets just slide right off of Van’s head.
I was wearing my hat, so no.
Poutine with chicken gravy was nice, but the beef gravy was better.
Poutine happens to be an option at our Friday night spot! Although it will need to be ordered separately. Probably too messy for community sharing.
Did you get the poutine at the Poutine Weinie?
You’ve lost me on that one, maybe include a diagram next time?
The horror comedy movie “Tusk” references it. Fictitious place completely both in the movie and in real life. But, I think Canada desperately needs someplace called Poutine Wienie.
JW: Dark Matter S2E1
Why did this get series get renewed again?
I’m confused by that too.
Really? I’ve had this show recommended to me many times.
I lost interest a few episodes into S1. Still enjoying Killjoys, though.
As stated before, it’s like Blakes 7 with better SFX and less interesting characters..
So tonight was introduced to Lords of Waterdeep board game.
Got beat twice but it was fun.
Good morning. Happy fifth of July.
For what it’s worth, I’m excited about my guest arrivals coming soon and also, there’s not enough coffee for the amount of tired I’m having.
I stayed up entirely too late feeding my Sylvia Plath obsession with some horrible movie from 2003 with Gwyneth Paltrow.
Well actually it’s worth a lot.
It’s worth a LOT to me, Van! So excited
It means a lot to us too, Cj. Thank you for helping with the out-of-towner hosting.
If you recall, OitNB touched on this topic this season with damning effect.
Oh, It’s the Nerd Brigade?
Orangutans, if there’s Nothing Better?
I unfortunately know too much about this subject.
We are watching Masters of Sex. Anyone else checked it out? Masters believed he could cure homosexuality…
Crap joke for the day:
Young Woman In a train compartment, there are 3 men and a young woman. The four passengers join in conversation, which very soon turns to the erotic. Then, the young woman proposes, “If each of you will give me $1.00, I will show you my legs.” The men, charmed by this young college girl, all pull a buck out of their wallet. And then the girl pulls up her dress a bit to show her legs. Then she says, “If each of you gentlemen will give me $10.00, I’ll show you my thighs,”. And men being what they are, they all pull out a ten dollar bill. The girl pulls up her dress all the way to her legs in full. Conversation continues, and the men, a bit excited, have all taken off their coats. Then the young girl says, “If you will give me $100, I will show you where I was operated on for appendicitis.” All three fork over the money. The girl then turned to the window and points outside at a building they’re passing. “See there in the distance. That’s the hospital where I had it done!”
Test
Now it’s my turn to test
We have a lot of time to kill
Van is filling out his customs form. Too bad he can’t go through customs for another hour and a half
CP: Free Fall — SPC ECO
So got through security checkin, waiting to board flight (in about an hour).
Next stop Phoenix!
Thanks to TEB and John for letting me crash in Calgary. Much appreciated. Hope you get a bite soon.
Tegan showed me the appropriate of feline contempt š
The redcoats are coming!
+amount
He’s not on here anymore, but I wish ALL the best to Nomad Scry on the birth of his new child.
Love that guy!!
That is fantastic news. I’ll have to send him some FB goodwill.
So I’m up at 5am, but it appears nobody else is.
There’s a spider in the bathroom, I wonder if Cj has a Hoover….
I would just chase it, but this being desert country not sure if it’s venomous.
Don’t hurt my little pet, Scruffy.
I was up, by the way… at 4am … I’m magically invisible.
Morning Pan
Back to work for this bunny *sigh*
At least Van waited til he was away from you to encounter the spider.
We also haz a Lo Pan!
Heading back to Cj’s.
Grand Canyon was cool.
It was about 30 degrees cooler
CP: If That’s Your Boyfriend (He Wasn’t Last Night — Me’Shell Ndegiocello
Hey, Deadpan! I’ve been in Phoenix since about 11:00. I rented a car, am checked into my hotel, and have spent the afternoon napping, shopping, and doing homework. I will see many of you at Fate tonight! š
Welcome, Ambassador!
Thank you google maps for getting us past that accident causing disruption.
So Fate Brewery has expanded, who knew?
Not us in the car…
A lime milk shake from Dutch Bros…mmmmmm!
Thanks Cj
I’m dressed and ready to head to the airport at 5:15 am! See you soon friends!
When you open the back door to let the puppy out and the cat gets out instead…and you can’t remember if the cat is a house cat, so you have to go all ninja and sneak up on the cat to get it back inside..that.
Thankfully Sherman was distracted enough by the puppy for me to grab her.
I had also forgotten Cj had another cat and was half convinced the house was haunted…
So Lo is showing ditto his ‘graphic novel’ selection.
Yes I’m making air quotes.
Oh is that what they call that these days
Wish I could be there. Moving out of one house in a couple weeks and into a new one a couple weeks after that. A month of chaos. The kids will go to Colorado for the inter-house period, Darcy will room with a friend, and I will be in my Superior, WI “sleeping room.”
Wishing all the best though, and seriously wish I were there!
Curtain call
Light the lights
This is it….
Congrats you two. Wish I could have been there
The white noise generator is not working tonight..
Star Wars theme done on floppy drives and old printers.
S.F.O.!
With my wife!
So close to Little China. Just no time for an Egg Chen tour.
You can find 4 of us on the July 13 Technorama

Worcestershire..Ack!
The sauce or the Massachusetts town?
The county.
I hope you have a great time on your honeymoon, J&T! It was a great trip, everyone. š
Excellent trip for me as well and so nice to see great friends again. I am definitely getting too old to work all week, fly all weekend, and work all week again. Oof! Totally worth it, though!
I suspose I had better get up.
Why none of us really are?
A lazy morning with pancakes (butter and honey on top) is the best.
I’m glad I taught you something new š
So now I have to pack, where’s my robot valet that the golden age of scifi promised me?
I realise I have the new Gimore Girls to watch when I get back.
I don’t show it available on Netflix yet.
Much sadness.
Thanks so much everyone! Hello from HI!
Say hi to HI for me.
I’m gobsmacked, the t-shirt fits, going to wear it for going home.
Cj is letting me watch the delightful Crazy Ex Girlfriend.
Sorry I didn’t have more time to hang with all youse guys!
Good to visit with you though. š
It was good visiting with you jOE, even if it was only at the major gatherings.
The delay curse has hit me today, 30 minutes delayed and the incoming plane hasn’t reached Phoenix.
+even
I got delayed in DFW. Seems AA was short a flight attendant.
So I hung out at the Friday’s. I told them Essbee sent me and they gave me a good seat in front of the TV for the Eurocup final.
ha!
So with Jack out of pocket … isn’t this the part where we re-arrange all the furniture in the Deadpan?
*Walks in. Trips over ottoman.*
+10 Early 60’s TV Sitcom reference.
So you go to the airport on time, expecting a long line for security, and then go through within 10 minutes..that.
So waiting at the airport for the flight heading home.
Thanks to Cj and again to TEB for letting me crash.
It’s been great meeting you all again, glad the wedding went well and fingers (and toes) crossed I can come visiting next year.
Thanks also to Chuck Tomasi for letting me on his podcast…
Got my seat, next stop London.
Catch you later Pan.
Well, this is different….
Survived my day of returning to work after coming in late. Though, this year I was smart and worked extra last Friday in anticipation.
Southwest has officially earned its place on my shit list.
Who knew Jack could hula?
I did!
The curse strike again! Flight to Newcadtle cancelled, the only option is tomorrow..FFS!
Morning Pan
Today’s schedule:
Put in about two hours of work
Leave the house so people can view it
Get bubble wrap and a saw
Saw a branch off a tree that’s decided it loves my eaves troughs
Pack boxes
How exciting is that?
The bubble wrap and saw it a bit disturbing.
š
The bubble wrap is to pack my dishes and the last of my glasses.
The saw if for the wayward branch. Although, we don’t need the saw as I found one in the basement.
I heard about it on an NPR report yesterday.
Anyone else giving it a try?
Been using it to access Kickass Torrents for about a year.
I might or might not have been using it for a while. š Make sure you read their notes about maintaining privacy. Also, their blog is very informative, especially how CMU, I believe, was hired to crack the system.
Yes it basically does a TFA with the first film’s plot, but still fun.
I’m looking forward to seeing it, especially since you liked it.
I don’t have a problem with a new film in a Ghostbuster universe.
I have a problem with the need to change the original. Especially when the original is still damn entertaining. :/
That film is still there JJ, just buy the DVD..
Already own it! š
Made sure the next generation has already seen it. I am sad for those who won’t because “new” will clearly mean “better” to them.
Morning Pan
Lots of rain and flooding in Calgary yesterday. Luckily not at our place.
Yesterday I packed my dishes so we ate dinner out of paper plates.
Today I need to get more boxes so I can pack the last of my glasses. Plastic cups will be used from this point on.
We hiked Diamond Head today. :metal:
Yes, we fucking did!
Awesome! Fun fact, back in his youth, my dad designed a home that was built on Diamond Head. I have no idea if it is still standing or not. Also – Pics!!!
+ 15 for related Architectural creation
Woke up early, dental appointment this morning, ugh.
The dentist claims I have the largest tongue he’s seen (width not length).
What’s that about?
Is your dentist a woman?
š
“he’s” I guess I should read more carefully.
CW: Killjoys S2E2
Oh no, they have played ‘bad guy has an English accent’ card…
Well we all know that those English people are evil…..
No Mr. Van, we expect you to die!
Well, the British do put the ‘b’ in bad guy. š
I love this song and the many variations of it, here’s another one:
This song has been playing in my head the whole time I’ve been here.
Just no sacrifices to Volcanoes please
So looks like the red wine stain was washed out successfully.
#excitinglifeNOT!
I’m wearing a matching shirt today!
But the shirt only matches your underwear, so it doesn’t make much of an impact.
And howdy from Buffalo, WY! We are getting a slow start this morning but only have a 4.5 hour drive to Bozeman, MT left.
Morning Pan
An old geezer became very bored in retirement and decided to open a medical clinic. He put a sign up outside that said: “Dr. Geezer’s clinic. Get your treatment for $500, if not cured, get back $1,000.”
Doctor “Young,” who was positive that this old geezer didn’t know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to Dr. Geezer’s clinic.
Dr. Young: “Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?
Dr. Geezer: “Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young’s mouth.”
Dr. Young: Aaagh!! — “This is Gasoline!”
Dr. Geezer: “Congratulations!
You’ve got your taste back. That will be $500.
Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his money.
Dr. Young: “I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything.”
Dr. Geezer: “Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient’s mouth.”
Dr. Young: “Oh, no you don’t, — that is Gasoline!”
Dr. Geezer: “Congratulations! You’ve got your memory back . That will be $500.”
Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Dr. Young: “My eyesight has become weak — I can hardly see anything!”
Dr. Geezer: “Well, I don’t have any medicine for that so,
“Here’s your $1000 back.” (giving him a $10 bill).
Dr. Young: “But this is only $10!”
Dr. Geezer: “Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500.”
Moral of story — Just because you’re “Young” doesn’t mean that you can outsmart an “old Geezer”
Seems interesting. Of course when I see games narrowly focused on a single film or television series, it makes me think that a generic system like FATE or Savage Worlds would be more fun. Actually a FATE game of Big Trouble in Little China could be pretty great.
Hubby and I have played games using both the FATE and Savage Worlds systems. Both are quite good.
probably
Of course he’s not tempted – there’s no option to play as Lo Pan!
Welcome to the Hell of Very Specific Board Games…
CP: Mother Mother — Tracy Bonham
Just so you know, I first read this as Tracy Borman. It took me a moment to figure out why the spelling was wrong.
Yeah well just so YOU know it’s
EVeryThinG’S FiNe!!
Holy fuck there’s an honest to god coup being streamed live on Facebook! Fucking rad 21st century!
From IO9’s coverage of the Star Wars: Rogue One panel:
Alan Tudyk then told us about his droid, K-2SO, who is the best friend of Diego Lunaās character, Cassian. Cassian reprogrammed the droid and Tudyk described him as āunsettling.ā He certainly seemed lethargic from the quick shot we saw.
Tudyk also shared that he told Anthony Daniels that he was going to be a droid, too, but that his character was going to be CGI instead of a suit. Daniels responded, āYou shit.ā The C-3PO suit clearly left an impression.
Is Bodhi a character from the expanded universe, or someone new? I wonder if he’s a nod to the Photon hero, Bhodi Li.
Bodhi is from Point Break, dude.
So he robs banks wearing Emperor Palpatine masks.
Back to airplane mode for a hop.
Well, that was quick.
Tropical rain, humidity, geckos, lava rocks and mongooses?!
Oh my!
You guys get to visit the Big Island?
Yes. We arrived last night.
I want to see some mongooses and wild pigs!
Back in the day, these things(wild pigs) were to be feared. You did not want to stumble across one.
Will you (did you) get to the Volcano Observatory? That was where I had my summer job when I was 18.
Hubby and I enjoy Codenames. We’ve played Pandemic, but not legacy. The rest, I admit, we haven’t played
Same on bith counts. Really like Mysterium but that may be from an earler year
The tv and all the computers, and the musical instruments have all been taken to their new home. Tonight, our only form of entertainment will be our mobile devices. I see lots of reading in tonight’s forecast
So Trump’s running mate had these thoughts on Mulan:
So I brought back an aging Mac Mini from Scotland, although still young enough to install El Capitan on it, so for the first time ever I will own a Mac.
My younger self is already taking the piss from the 90s…
As a freebie it’s ok but I can’t for the life of me understand why people get evangelical about OS/X and the Mac hardware.
* first post using a Mac
I also saw the procedure for replacing the HD, yeah that’s not happening.
It’s raining again. Hard. I think we’ll stay in the book store for just a little bit longer
I’ve slept the shit out of it, taken my meds, taken Airborne, but I’m still sick in paradise.
At least it’s a great place to lay around and do nothing.
You need more pineapple. Pineapple has vitamin C right?
Seriously, I hope this passes quickly. Not good to be sick in paradise š
Last night in this house. A lot of amazing memories are here
Wow. This is a momentous day.
Even in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, my Rush t-shirt gets a thumbs up from a stranger.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a guy at a brewery last night wearing a Rush t-shirt. Then it dawned on me that I’m in Toronto where the Rush fan base is probably denser than anywhere else on the planet.
Great job to the Deadpan crew who guested on Technorama ep #477!!!!
The lovely ladies… and Van.
Lots of laughs from our hotel room in HI! š
Worcestshire will haunt me for months!
To be fair you were a bit distracted at that point dealing with flight info.
Thank you. I had a good time and enjoyed finally seeing the studio that has contributed to many listening hours over the last 11 years.
So back to work tomorrow. Don’t think I’ve had a holiday before with so much done.
The guy who created Trumps image back in 1987 (the ghostwriter for āThe Art of the Deal.ā comes clean, “he felt that he had to speak up before it was too late. ”
100% of Trump’s supporters will not read and will dismiss any negative facts about their crazy person.
However, there are still lots of people out there with no love for Trump, but who won’t vote against him because they keep hearing the “Hillary’s a criminal” soundbyte (even if they can’t name her supposed crime). Hopefully these kinds of revelations about rump will make an impact on those voters.
heh!
Stephan Colbert appears to take the podium at Republican Convention this AM before being chased off.
I have to assume this is a per-arranged bit … but still, kind of funny.
The wifi has been hooked up at the new home :w00t:
Hubby says the movers just pulled away from our old home. In about an hour, this place is going to become very busy
The movers are here! Let the unloading commence
The movers say we are banned from going to the book store. I think they weren’t happy about the 20 seven foot tall bookcases we are making them move :cheerful:
I lied. There were 23 bookcases
Glad it was just bookcases. Imagine having to schlep 23 bookcases worth of books as well. That would have been horrible.
There were only 19 book cases worth of books. The rest were games
Please tell me your new house has some hidden passages!
All houses should at least have a room hidden by a bookcase.
What, was no one else ever 10 years old?
My uncle had 2 hidden passages built into his home. It’s fun scaring people the first time.
+100
I so wish this was true. I would love a hidden passage or two
I’m glad I live in a terraced house that sits on a solid block of concrete..
Line all those bookcases of yours up along a wall with a closet in it. Place one bookcase on castors and position it in front of the closet.
Instant “secret room”! š
heh
Hearing that Michelleās speech had the Norovirus hidden in it and when she tricked Melania into opening it up to read at the convention, she set it loose.
I was just informed by a member of the Jr. Auxiliary that “napping to get rid of a headache – is the biological equivalent of ‘Try turning it off and back on again’ “.
I could use a reboot right now.
So if anybody could explain the season 2 finale of 12 Monkeys to me that would be great..
Oh it wasn’t the finale, just the penultimate episode.
Rain predicted for noon, I hope you are right met office!!
Mongoose sighting and active volcano exploring, all in one day WOW!
Kalua Moco! No Kahlua, just rice, gravy, eggs, and kalua pork. Delicious last Hawallan meal.
Today we do some grocery shopping to fill our rather empty new fridge.
I also go back to work today. It’s going to be hard getting back into a routine.
I haven’t slept so I’m seriously goofy today. The haboob or whatever it was last night kept me up with all the wind chimes and whatever else banging on my house. I was surprised that I didn’t sleep through it since I had done my Yoga Nidra and was relaxed. What an awful night.
Happy to be up and productive though.
And I’m sure my makeup looks stellar because hot pink.
I’m almost sad I missed the Haboob, almost.
Hubby is setting up the guest room. Our room is not completely unpacked, but he felt the need to do the guest room. We’re not even expecting anybody. *shakes head*
Was he ever a Boy Scout?
Booo mainland.
All good things…
Indeed. š
A final lesson learned: LAX is terrible place for a nap.
I’m sure you and Tiffany will be back to the islands in the future.
Can’t sleep while Anze Kopitar tries to punch you in the face?
I had fried tofu from Thai House for lunch today and it’s delightful!
tofu and delightful don’t go together in my personal universe.
Did you have awesome sauce? Because awesome sauce makes everything better. (At least that’s part of the reason a lot of people like Blue Koi restaurant here)
The king prawn incident reminded me how revolting the small of seafood is.
It’s the name of an Asian fusion restaurant, bot the fish :p
To those Mac users that say OS/X is easy to use and Windows 10 is a pain use:
YOU ARE TALKING SHITE!!!!!
After two hours of fiddling, the Mac Mini still won’t show files on my network storage device.
Doing this on Windows takes a few minutes.
rant over
A thousand Apple Cultists just inscribed your name into their ritual altars.
Temple of the Dog are doing a tour! If you hadn’t heard.
Yknow by far not my fav grunge band. But if they came here I cant say I wouldnt go
Finally got the Mac Mini to see files on my NAS. Drive.
Fuck you Apple!!
Poor Lo, soon he won’t be able to play his porn stash:
Oiy.
I have so much stuff on VHS that needs archiving onto dvd. š
I was surprised they still managed to sell 750,000 last year.
I think I only have a handful of things that I would like to archive off my VHS collection. It’s been years since I’ve viewed any.
fuck your face
Morning Pan
Another day has begun
Temp got to 99F here yesterday. With the 89% humidity though, it felt like a balmy 109Ė
I am rethinking my disdain of Scottsdale’s “dry heat”.
I think I much prefer the 23C it’s suppose to get to today here. Much more livable.
It was 110 the day I moved here, so I had to unload the U-Haul in that heat. . . which still felt 1000% better than loading the trailer in NJ’s humid 88 degree heat, the week before.
^This.
No of amount of ‘this’ is going to make me like the heat.
Or that.
We discovered today is garbage day. Hubby is quickly putting the garbage out now.
A strange dream about going to Seattle from Phoenix and forgetting to book a return flight.
That would not be terrible š
Morning Pan
A beautiful, sunny morning here on the second floor of the bunny house.
Is the banister slideable?
Oh yes. Must give it a try.

Who comes to the hospital and checks in for surgery, but thinks they are only here to see the surgeon and not have any operation done?
smh
I’m totally going to do that when I go in for my surgery in August now. Just because.
Social Distortion’s 1990 self-titled album is still a gem.
It would seem that now my @jackmangan.com email address is not accepting new email messages.
If you have a message for me, then go ahead and use the sphericaljackm address. Failing that, you can go the FB or phone route.
So as I wait to get the train home, the Red Arrows just flew above the station.

Jeebus. What the fuck is going on in Germany. Are we, here in the US, just oblivious to the outside world, or is Germany being specifically targeted? If so, why?
Like wtf!
To be fair, France has been taking it on the chin for the last few years.
History is basically a long chronicle of planned and unplanned violent actions initiated by predators, lunatics, fanatics, bullies, military units, and revolutionaries – – interrupted by the occasional social, technological, or scientific advancement. Even those positive interruptions are usually spurred or made necessary by the negative actions of others. This shit is nothing new, but it’s still scary and unacceptable.
Bravo
And don’t forget, if today’s media was available during, say, the Crusades you’d have unbridled panic in the world. Much more than today.
Except we were the bad guys then.
The original Total Recall is playing on the TV.
1990!!!!!
WTF!
In case you somehow missed Jon Stewart’s brief return to glory.
I saw this and suddenly realized how much I missed him.
Then I had this surreal epiphany about how we were suddenly needing a late night TV comedian to save us from a reality TV “personality”. There’s a plot no producer would buy and yet … here we are.
I was always fascinated by the artwork on the old Atari cartridges. Just slightly more realistic and detailed than the graphics of the actual games.
Ticket booked to see the new Star Trek film tomorrow.
Hopefully there will be no wiping Klingons from the starboard bow.
Just finished watching Bats vs. Supes. My expectations must have been pretty low as it wasn’t as bad as I expected. In fact, the movie pretty much had me until it turned into a monster movie, then it pretty much lost me
It’s not as bad as it was made out to be. It’s fine. Did it have problems? Many. Was fun to watch the battles. Yes. Good enough for me.
I give you permission to watch the newest Star Trek.
Well thank you, it was a close run thing as I’m typing this in the cinema waiting for the film to start.
Thought it was fun, a nice send off for the actor who played Chekov.
The soundtrack to my evening will be western themed.
Spotify has a playlist of the Ennio Morricone music written for westerns..
I’m not sure if I should be worried about this little town we moved to. There seems to be a liquor store on every other corner. You’d think a town of only 60k wouldn’t be able to support that many liquor stores, but… *shrug*
Lots of options if you need to pull off some petty larceny.

JW: Outcast E7
Not much happened AGAIN.
Went to see the Ghostbusters reboot.
Trying really hard to come up with something that I thought might be an improvement over the first one. For a just a second I was going to go with the addition of the “Goof ball, clueless guy” (secretary character) but then I remembered the Rick Moranis character so I guess that really wasn’t new. Just swapped around a bit.
If you haven’t seen it … it’s okay. But I wouldn’t shell out theater price for it. Wait for Netflix.
Stranger Things!
Indeed!
We really never binge, but we’ve done 6 episodes of Stranger Things in 2 days.
It’s as if John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg collaborated on an unpublished Stephen King novel in 1986 and waited 30 years to release it.
Today started in the regular ol’ routine. It was a nice change.
Isn’t that a contradiction? š
Do you know what is worse than missing another chance to see Public Service Broadcasting perform live due to work?
I could actually get free tickets to see them through work..

I’m tired. I wonder what would happen if I didn’t get my work done for today. Authors don’t care if their royalties are paid late do they?
Um
Well it’s been nice knowing you..
So last night, I finally finished Geoff Emerick’s memoir of being sound engineer for the Beatles through most of their career and some projects afterwards. Took me forever to get through, but it’s a fascinating look at some of the biggest personalities of the 20th Century.
One of the countless little anecdotes I picked up – – there’s an audible “fucking hell” on the final recording of Hey Jude. It was on one of the tracks after Paul had flubbed a piano part, but Lennon demanded it be kept in. I went back and listened after reading, and sure enough, it’s there, way down in the mix.
Why the “ummmm??”
Its a touching story and awesome that people are becoming more at ease with the decision of death and are able to have control of their end of life decisions. This is an amazing moment (and probably gratifying) for this young woman, Jerika.
Because it smacks too much of ‘we are getting rid of a disabled person’ lets celebrate.
Ask yourself, if she did not have that condition and wanted to kill herself, would you think it was a good thing?
It absolutely would not be a good thing or acceptable, but that is not the case here.
*this* girl is slowly and painfully actively dying right now, so why not end her suffering? A tangible, real thing is killing her amd there is no cure and no way to make her comfortable any longer. She is not suffering with a mental illness or just bored with life. So you cannot compare the two things, imo.
Thing is if you give people that right to kill themselves then you will (and in fact do) get people killing themselves with non terminal conditions.
I have no illusions that you can stop people killing themselves, I just don’t think it should be legal to help them do it.
Then there is the flip side of the coin …
Why should the laws be set up to STOP self destructive people from hurting themselves INSTEAD of being set up to help end the hurting of human beings who are in dire need ?
Or for that mater, why does it have to be just one or the other?
Holy Shit. The SSA office is like walking into prison… Not that I have any experience in ever doing that…
It turns out the movie Lights Out is based on a winning short film.
I had zero interest in watching this to begin with, but if the article’s claims are even partially true, then I’m completely repulsed.
(Full disclosure: Big fan of peak Alan Moore, big fan of the major Batman 80s books – – not a fan of Batman: Killing Joke. I know it’s widely-revered, just not by me.)
I actually like “Killing Joke” as a graphic novel, but I have no interest in seeing it animated. I believe Alan Moore is quoted as taking things to far and he wished the censors at DC had reigned him in a bit.
OH MAN!! I got some new deodorant today, the instructions said “REMOVE CAP AND PUSH UP BOTTOM”. I can barely walk but when I fart my god it smells amazing!

Of course I may have missed a bullet on this one, she might have called him Captain Picard to his face….
So she actually got to meet them too?? I’d have been more impressed if she called him Gurney Halleck.
Nah, she’s just planning on trying.
Ah, see you mention Patrick Stewart, and I’m already veering off into nonsensical time-travel. His very presence seems to bring that out in people… and his movies.
Well, I get to spend the start of my morning, having brekkie with a co-worker (R) while watching the DNC on FOX News and hearing my co-worker’s (R) thoughts and comments about politics.

I believe the Ace of Spades beats King of Speed.
Read ’em and weep / the Dead Man’s Hand again.
I can’t believe anyone ever beat this terrible game. And I also can’t believe the article fails to point out that it created the phrase, “Beast Mode,” to the benefit of NFL players, crossfitters, and weightlifters.
So I’ve only read one Culture novel

RE: The Killing Joke
Haven’t read the comic it was based on. Haven’t read any batgirl comic (flicked through a few issues of BOP where she was Oracle), so had no visceral reaction to BG fucking BM.
Yeah the 30 minute intro feels tacked on.
It was watchable but I have no desire to ever see it again…
That wasn’t in the KJ comic. The DC comics faithful have expressed creepout due to the age difference between the two, and his usual role as an avuncular figure – – which. . . yeah, in that light, makes it very fucking creepy.
However, I’ve also never read anything with BG in it, and I think(?) they’re supposed to be close to the same age in KJ – – so that scene would have just seemed like another superhero romantic hookup to me, no different than the ol’ Batman+Catwoman trope.
So my Apple earbuds were playing up and I booked appointment at the Apple Store.
Had to cancel as the earbuds worked perfectly this morning…

My cell service in my home has suffered near death recently, after a recent carrier update.
I called customer service today to investigate. He was bery pleasant and my case is oending. But here is what ai learned, as I read between the lines from my convo with tech support. So it appears that my lastest cell carrier update included the activation of a feature called Wi-Fi Calling, which is a free service, through a wi-fi connection and does nor use cellular data or eat into my data plan. The skeptic in me thinks this change occurred intentionally, so as I use less of att’s cellular service.
It’s actually a feature most carriers have been moving to over the last two years. Yes, it helps with balancing data and call loading on cell sites, but doesn’t take the burden away from the company. You can turn off this feature on your phone. With the new spectrum auctions that have been happening over the last two months I expect we’ll see more changes coming.
Yeah, thats being introduced in the UK, however with mobile company I’m with, you have to use an app to get wifi calls.

I hate wasting cheese…
You’re kinda supposed to do that with certain cheeses. As long as it wasn’t Velveeta, you’re probably ok.
Now if it was a steak. . .
There is that scene in the Das Boot tv series, where the command crew is eating and you can see the fussy Nazi cutting off the mould on the meat.

I had quite a few nits to pick with ST. That one hadn’t occurred to me, but it’s a good point.
None of the nits diminished my enjoyment of the show, however.
Quite, I’m going to watch the season finale tonight, it’s been a fun ride.
Well the ending was a bit of an anti-climax.
Tiffany was pretty down on the ending too. I was fine with it, but I get it. I’ll say no more, in case any tumbleweeds or friends have yet to watch. .
Rediscovered a favorite tv show of my youth online last night. Did anyone else watch Mad Movies in the 80s? It was kind of a pre-cursor to MST3K. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ9DDMf5WvU
Some laughs, yeah, but it’s seriously dated. Still a big win for nostalgia.
I did. I belonged to a geeky club in college and we had a blast watching Mad Movies. I have a fond memory of someone making us watch The Lion in Winter one night, getting pissed off that we didn’t like it, and storming out yelling “Mad Movies suck!”. That guy was a jackass.
Finally the plot moved along a bit with the latest episode of Outcast.

He then gave Harry a supply of suppositories, and told him, “Go home now, and use one of these each morning and one at night until they’re gone. Then come back and we’ll see how you are.
“Harry went home, and in a couple of weeks returned, still complaining of hemorrhoids. “Well, ” said the doctor, “Did you use all of the suppositories?” “Yes, I did,” said Harry. “I took one every morning and every night as you instructed, even though they were pretty hard to swallow.” “For all the good they did me, I might just as well have shoved them up my arse!

The “New England, 1954” setting turns out to be very important (one guy is trapped in the closet for the sake of his career, and another character’s wife had friends who were socialists and could have been reported to the HUAC)
Lots of screams in this movie – also, lots of funny moments
One of the bodies has disappeared!
I remember getting photo negatives as a kid

I saw the spiderman tv pilot with my own eyes in a cinema in the UK in the 70’s, so yeah if you want to dance I’m in.
You just said ‘TV pilot’. You lose. Putting a Seinfeld episode in theaters does not a theatrical release make.
Nope, it got a theatrical release in The UK, it’s origin is irrelevant.
Swivel on that one matey.
It’s not about origin its about it being a made for tv movie, it was not made for theaters. Your semantic twisting of my original statement aint gonna win you full custody in court, ‘matey’>.
Ah but it wasn’t described as a TV pilot in the UK, it was billed as a Spiderman film.
So yeah, a theatrical release way, way before Howard the Duck.
You are wrong whippersnapper and will always be wrong.
Goddammit. Suicide Squad is getting absolutely trashed my critiques. WTF DC? You started off so well with MoS. What’s going on? And I get there’s a large contingent out there that claim critiques will hate DC no matter what. Well that’s bullshit since at one point in time DC films were the gold standard with fans and critiques alike. There has to be something else going on here.
It’s certainly unfortunate, but we’re probably going to see it anyway. My daughter’s been waiting for it all year.
Non-sequitor – I agree with Van’s “meh” on Van Helsing.
I’m also hearing the same “meh” from early screening viewers. . . . Shame. . .
But yeah, I’m sure we’ll see it too.
I have been looking forward to this movie for almost 2 years, so I will go and see it, but I suspect that the critics suffer from the marketing team’s over enthusiasm and a past of lackluster plot lines. I really don’t care about Jared Leto’s weird gifts to his castmates or Will Smith showing up in NYC streets in costume, but it seemed these things were being leaked to drive enthusiasm rather than concentration on the story.
I am going in with low expectations, but Harley is one of my favorite characters in the DC universe. I hope that Margot portrays her well enough.
Critics are never entirely trustworthy when it comes to reviews for certain types of movies. That being said, enough of them are saying that the second half of the movie isn’t as good as the first half that I tend to believe what they are saying. That doesn’t mean *I* won’t enjoy the movie. I still like “Armageddon” even though it is crap. But, given the number of other movies that I would prefer to see, I might wait to watch this one as a rental.
It would seem that, as annoying as that is, no one is more annoyed by it than the kid in the video.
So true!
Not cool man. Some of us are particularly sensitive to ear worms. I had to listen to some Zebra on the Kink Biscuit Power Hour to wipe it clean.
Kink Biscuit is:
A. An awesome typo
B. A completely different show than King Biscuit
C. Both of the above
I do love me some Zebra, though. I remember the urban legends that their lead singer had had his vocal chords surgically altered to hit those high notes.

That’s an impressive accomplishment! Congrats to you both. Here’s to as many score more as you can get!
The stuff about his vision problems is interesting, especially to those of us with malfunctioning eyeballs. The stuff about his frequent career-jumping is also interesting, but only half-told. I’d love to see him talk about how he survived the multiple leaps of faith without starving in the gutter. “One day, a voice told me to quit my job and write for highly-accessible syndicated animated TV shows, so I moved to L.A. and I did it!” “One day, that same voice said to quit animation and go write for popular syndicated TV series!”
What differentiated him from the thousands of other talented people who show up daily in L.A. with the same idea?
Bought two ebooks from Amazon by mistake and the refund procedure is crapping out, ugh.

Had some excitement this morning. The dishwasher in the new home hasn’t been draining properly. I told hubby to leave it until we can call a plumber. He decided it would be ok and turned it on as we were going to bed. I got up this morning to discover it had flooded, through to the basement, where we still have unpacked boxes of books and games.
I’m waiting until hubby gets up and am going to make him go through the boxes to see what the actual damage is. *sigh*
Soul crushing agony is how I would describe it if that had happened to me.
#dramaqueen
But seriously, hope the damage is light.
It looks like we got away lucky. While about a half dozen boxes are damaged, it seems they soaked up the water and nothing inside of them got damaged. Hubby is currently emptying the boxes. I have a service call into an appliance repair here in Airdrie. However, this looks like it is probably the cheapest dishwasher money can buy. I’ll see what the repair guy says, but it will probably be better just to replace it.
Well, that will motivate you to get to the unpacking. Or if not, the damp cardboard smell soon will.
We can’t unpack completely yet. The basement is unfinished. Once our other house sells, we will be using some of that money to finish the basement. We probably won’t be able to completely unpack until closer to Christmas.
Hubby’s trying to convince me we will need a Geek Chic table for the basement once it’s done. I’m not so convinced
I’m back from paradise and boy am I sore.
Did they cane you?
I got sugarcaned, that is I chewed on some sugarcane on the west coast. š
CP: Sputnik — PSB
My 3rd fav PSB track after Go! And Gagarin.
CW: Dick Tracy (1990)
Big Boy Caprice is a moustache away from being a super deformed Hitler.
I somehow avoided the Dick Tracy hype back in the 90s, and have never bothered with it since.
Checking. . . yep. . . still, no interest.
*”avoided the Dick”
Somewhere I still have my Dick Tracy (1990) t-shirt that also served as my movie ticket on opening night and says “I saw it first” on it. I somehow doubt that will ever wind up being worth anything.
The last time I saw this film it was 1990.
I didn’t realise the actor who played Flat top doesn’t normally talk with a Scandinavian accent (every other role I’ve seen in him he does).
Madonna is truly shit in this.
Before this film, my only experience of DT were a few episodes of a cartoon adaptation and the odd mention of his radio watch in science articles.
I really can’t remember a film I thought Warren Beatty was actually good in.
Duty before the Lady I seems.
Henry Silva is criminally under used.
Before the film, Dick Tracy appeared in the full-color Sunday Comics, but it never held my interest. Neither did Prince Valiant, or even the Spider-Man ongoing strip. I was there for the goofy laughs.
Why do social workers have to be so dowdy in Hollywood flicks?
Judging from his performance here, Dick Van Dyke would have given Burgess Meredith a run for his money playing the Penguin.
I think I’d linked to this when there was only a write-up for the first Trek film. Now, it appears the whole movie run is done.
If you unfriend someone from FB, does it show up in their feed? Or is it quiet and they don’t notice unless they look at their friend list or notice they stop getting any news from them?
I want to unfriend a family member but don’t want to deal with the fallout if I do.
I don’t believe it shows up in their feed, but they’ll be able to tell if they ever review their friend list. Another option to “silence” them, where you don’t see any of their general posts, only the ones they send directly to you. I’ve had to silence a few here and there.
I don’t want them to talk to me. They tend to say things that I just end up deleting. I’ve locked down my feed so no one can directly add to my wall, but it doesn’t do anything if they choose to say something as a response to what I’ve said, even if it’s not related.
Then block them on your privacy settings when you post a status, when you compose a message, before posting, click on the box next to the post button and select Friends: Except and then choose the person you don’t want to see that status.
I believe you can unsubscribe from them, which stops their posts from showing up in your feed. If you want to experiment with unfriending me, you can. (Just bear in mind that my primary email is still on the fritz).
The easiest way to avoid fall out, is block your status posts from that one person. You can set who sees your posts to friends except and then put that person on the exception list.
I do that with work colleagues if I post a status update when I’m at work.
This article is from 2013, but s lot of the tips should still be relevant:
Ok, I’ve tried putting her on “restricted” However, because she is also on “family” I’m not sure how well that will work as I’m ok with some of my family seeing and commenting on stuff I say (like my Boo).
*sigh* I sometimes hate family.
So Suicide Squad was ok, nowt fantastic, but I stayed awake through the whole picture, which is saying something these days.
If you haven’t googled, there is a scene in the middle of the credits, so don’t leave too soon.,,

Email update: yes, it’s still broken. My domain provider is telling me it’s because jackmangan.com has been cancelled. . .
Should we be concerned? Is this like a condemned building?
If Jackmangan.com has been cancelled, what do I type to get to this page? Seems strange to me.
Perhaps your domain provider has slipped into one of many possible futures.
They flutter behind me, my possible pasts.
Is this a Butterfly Effect reference?
Ok, I think I’m done my work work for the day. Now it’s time to clean the washrooms. *sigh* Why did we think having an extra washroom was a good idea? It’s just more for me to clean.
Watching the opening ceremonies. There is a part where a biplane leave the stadium and flies around Rio
Hubby says, “the pilot should hi-five Jesus”
I laugh and tell him that is oh, so wrong
His reply, “but it would be all everybody would talk about”
Silly hubby
I’m watching them, too. Yay, Canada!
I hate to admit that I was a little bit bored watching the Minibosses. :-/. Still lots of cool moments in their setlist. Closing with Metroid was a plus. Not playing Castlevania was a huge minus.
Well that explains why some games work better on the laptop over the desktop:
Not a great fan of the Olympics, so doubt I will be watching very much of it.
Crap joke for the day:
A man walks into work with two black eyes. His boss asks what happened. The man says, “I was sitting behind a big woman at church. When we stood up to sing hymns, I noticed that her dress was caught in her crack, so I pulled it out. She turned around and punched me square in the eye.” “Where did you get the other shiner?” the boss asks. “Well,” the man says, “I figured she preferred it in the crack, so I pushed it back in.”
Why you shouldn’t Google expressions you see on Twitter:
They originally didn’t name her, just said she was his wife.
Oh that’s gross. Glad they fixed it
So as MEH as the new DC film universe is, so is the new post Secret Wars Marvel comics universe. The one ULTIMATE exception is the new Moon Knight. What a joyous, fantastical, wondrous modern take on the character. Issue 5 has just wrapped so you arent too late to hop on the fun
I’ve given a few Moon Knights a chance since my 2007 roommate got me interested in the character. None of em took with me. . . So you’re telling me to give the newest incarnation a shot? Starting with which issue number?
Also please ignore everything your 2007 roommate has ever said ever. *cough*
Well, he’s also a Penguins fan…
I really liked the start of the ’06 MK series, but got bored when it went nowhere. I’ll check the new one when it comes to Marvel Unlimited.
Number 1. There’s only 5 issues. It’s really good…they’ve taken out the hokey and installed the rad
That’s about as nerdrage bait-y as it’s possible for an article to be.
I agree with his comments too.
Me as well.

We play betrayal. We have both the original version and the updated one (where the pool is no longer on the second floor)
That Mystic Elevator seems a bit tricky. It can just show up wherever you want? My daughter actually drew the Collapsed Floor room and fell through it to the Mystic Elevator, which was a bit confusing.

Not only calling a female judo match a catfight, but implying that all female judoka bitch after a match.
Gawd what a couple of fucking awful broadcast teams. Seriously, NBC and BBC need to take a good hard look at themselves. Of course theyll do that, see how good the ratings were, and not give two shits
An extremely snarky article but valid points all around
For what it’s worth, while I didn’t make it to the showing, my wife and both our kids suicide squad. Others that I’ve talked to who actually saw it enjoyed it as well.
I’m sure I’ll catch it when it comes to video, along with Batman v Superman.
+enjoyed?
Random question:
Remember that “Diarrhea!” song that :jack: always played on the Deadpan to signify “here comes some Diary Podcasting?” Could someone please tell me that song’s title and the artist? I want to use it for my own show.
I’m no longer on the admin, but work has a table in the dealer’s room and I am on a couple of panels.
Which panels? Are they streaming?
No, they’re not streaming. When I was on the committee, I tired to get them to stream, or at least record for a podcast. I may try to record the panels directly related to Tyche Books to put on our YouTube page… If I can remember which box our recorder is in.
Well, Pannites tomorrow is my yearly quest to the theater to watch 8 hours of Drum Corps LIVE!
Sadly, I am on call and already scheduled to work through 6 hrs of the event. So I fear I will have to miss it for the first time in about 8 or 9 years.

… and now to the glamorous job of toilet repair.
The conversation has moved on!
Hey guys and dolls! Sorry I haven’t been around. Life, etc.
Firsties!!!
He says pre-flight
First flight delayed by 25 minutes..aargh!
Have a safe day of travelling, Van!!
See you on the flip side.
Fate is playing silly buggers, got a hole in my jeans pockets.
I have a hole in my jeans pocket today too. #Twinsies!
The airport is busy.
#Ihatesummer
Dreading Heathrow.
This is an official warning, there will be some grump posts!
Life would not be the same if you started posting cheerful ones
Like the BA app won’t grab the boarding pass for the Calgary Flight. No explanation it just craps out, had to a get a printout at the Airport.
I forgot to bring a pen and left my woolly hat at home.
The latter won’t be much use in Phoenix.
Only if you grow an oversized beard, squeeze into skinny jeans, and gauge enormous holes in your earlobes.
Still I should be able to finish off watching all the remaining episodes of Space Battleship Yamamoto 2199 ..
Safe travels, Van!!
Thank you all.
Safe travels Van. Watch out for silly buggers trying to put holes in your jeans.
Pretty sure this thread should read “A Feast for Grumps”
Welcome aboard!
Morning Pan
In about ten hours, I’ll have a Brit in the guest room.
Van! I hope the travels are:
-Safe
-Low anxiety
-Fun(?)
-Don’t involve William Shatner in any way
William Shatner will be on the cruise I’m taking in January, but I’m mostly looking forward to poolside yoga with Terry Farrell!

Is it true you peeps in the US don’t get Hickory Sticks? I may have to rethink what I bring for goodies next time I make it out there.

In theory, Van’s flight will be landing in a little over an hour
http://www.twitter.com
Today I take Van to the Tyrrrell
http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/
Two night ago I saw Jessica Lange doing David Bowie’s “Life on Mars” from an episode of American Horror Story.
It is simply amazing. So right! So wrong.

Okay then …
heading to airport.
Hope TSA isn’t grumpy.

Just pushed away from gate.
Vroom
Everything I disliked about Costco when I tried a year membership is pretty much an on purpose design choice.
http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2015/09/25/443519599/episode-653-the-anti-store
I’m looking forward to everything but the heat
I will keep you cool, my dear!

Waiting to board the gondola to ride to the top of sulphur mountain
“Sulphur Mountain” – – that doesn’t sound spooky.
Sounds like a “pull my finger” joke. š
It certainly smelt like one.

Wow, there’s lots of good reading in that “How We Made” series. Just no time!
I couldn’t imagine why
The gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain was fun, highly reccomended if you are visiting Alberta.

Not us in the car…

Excellent trip for me as well and so nice to see great friends again. I am definitely getting too old to work all week, fly all weekend, and work all week again. Oof! Totally worth it, though!

Off to see the new Ghostbusters flick today.
You’re not boycotting because girls are icky?
Nope, but the jet lag may mean I sleep through some of it.
Just realised the the new theme has brought the recent post list back.
Yah!

Enjoyed the new Ghostbusters flick.

They have his girl, so drunk driving is ok..I think.
This time the thugs mean business and the bright shirt is gone.
Wrestling at the beach ends badly.

Mike knows how to get out of bondage.
That two down.
She’s lost the dressing gown.
Mike looks like he’s enjoying that bit of ultra violence.
Beating up an old man, sheeesh.
The box!!!!!!!
It’s a hot box and when Mike opens the box..
A) He passes the hard man test.
B) She finally loses the dressing gown.
C) Ditto’s 24000 photos come pouring out.
Plot twist and another radiation burn.
One dead old man and the box is gone.
Loads and loads of art and more feet.
The bad guy is revealed!
The silly dressing gown woman wants to see in the box.
She kills the bad guy just like that.
She shoots Mike!
She opened the box..Repo Man watchers will get this.
I hope they used the same effect.
Oh they went with the short ending..bastards!!!

WTF
I watched Kiss Me Deadly* a few years ago , just to catch the Repo Man/Pulp Fiction influences. Definitely a classic noir.

So I will be spending sometime in the Scottish Highlands this weekend.
My first *real* east coastal sunrise was thwarted by Celia! Ack!
Hmmm.
According to Wikipedia –
“Celia is a Spanish children’s television series created by JosĆ© Luis Borau in 1992 for the national Spanish public-service channel TelevisiĆ³n EspaƱola.”
As someone who lives near an east coast, it’s not that special you know…

Cue Simon and Garfunkel.
So I saw this and wonder if Lo is tempted:
http://bit.ly/29NgdWB
I am interested
Seems interesting. Of course when I see games narrowly focused on a single film or television series, it makes me think that a generic system like FATE or Savage Worlds would be more fun. Actually a FATE game of Big Trouble in Little China could be pretty great.
Hubby and I have played games using both the FATE and Savage Worlds systems. Both are quite good.
probably
Of course he’s not tempted – there’s no option to play as Lo Pan!

I lost it at that point….

Van: You’ve tried out the PS remote play on your PC, right? What did you use for a controller?
The PS4 controller, the PlayStation software you install on the PC lets you plug the controller in using the charging cable.
However, if you also want to use the controller with PC programs you need to install this program:

So I brought back an aging Mac Mini from Scotland, although still young enough to install El Capitan on it, so for the first time ever I will own a Mac.
My younger self is already taking the piss from the 90s…

Hey Deadpan
Instant “secret room”! š

Today we do some grocery shopping to fill our rather empty new fridge.
I also go back to work today. It’s going to be hard getting back into a routine.
Hmmm:

Good morning, Pan.

The king prawn incident reminded me how revolting the small of seafood is.

I think I only have a handful of things that I would like to archive off my VHS collection. It’s been years since I’ve viewed any.

Okay, boys and girls… I’m going to take a snapshot of the database in about 5 minutes. 5 PM Eastern time.
I’ll post one comment after I pull the snapshot. Anything after that comment WILL be lost when I pull the site over to the new server.
If all goes well, the switch-over should take 10ish minutes… otherwise… Well… let’s just hope that otherwise doesn’t happen.
So… I guess it just needs time to propagate now…
Because all the step have been taken.
Haha… Well, I guess that was it.
Then it’s safe to say it here: I have always secretly wanted to be Olive Oyl.
Wait, did I post this confession after the purge? Dammit!
Settle down and have a cheeseburger.

Why not both?

Seems like Walking Dead’s Daryl called Sarah Wayne Callies’ character Olive Oyl once, or maybe you prefer Shelley Duvall?
https://vimeo.com/18202908 Shelly FTW. I will fully own up to loving this song.
Never mind The Shining. This is the best thing Shelly Duvall ever did.

I’m totally going to do that when I go in for my surgery in August now. Just because.
Social Distortion’s 1990 self-titled album is still a gem.
It would seem that now my @jackmangan.com email address is not accepting new email messages.

Wow, just wow.

I’m not sure if I should be worried about this little town we moved to. There seems to be a liquor store on every other corner. You’d think a town of only 60k wouldn’t be able to support that many liquor stores, but… *shrug*

Sad that it’s available in the US and not Canada as it’s a BBC series.
Ummm:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/07/23/more-than-1000-prom-wisconsin-teen-choosing-die/87474626/

I rarely watch old shows on Netflix, they have been so many good new shows I just don’t have the time.
And how often do we find that the old shows just don’t hold up? Why set yourself up for retro disappointment? (Not Rhettro disappointment.)
Nostalgia can get me through a lot.

Another missed event due to work.
Sister has two tickets to see Ian Mckellan and Patrick Stewart perform a Harold Pinter play and wanted me to go with her.
Sigh.

In the film the age difference looks small.

Hey, Deadpan! My Movie Night Crew friends and I are watching the movie “Clue” tonight. I thought I would try my hand at a few play-by-play style posts.
Screen caption: New England, 1954
The library has one of those hidden doors
It’s started raining
Poor Miss Peacock is not having a good time
Sitting down to dinner
Poetry references
The actress playing the maid also played one of the Playboy Playmates in Apocalypse Now (which we watched at one of the previous Movie Nights).
Several of these people live in Washington, D.C. Hmmm…
An envelope labeled “To Wadsworth: Please Open After Dinner”
You’re all being blackmailed!
Delusions of grandeur
(This comment thought better of due to spoilers, but man, this is some good writing)
And here come the classic Clue objects
The “New England, 1954” setting turns out to be very important (one guy is trapped in the closet for the sake of his career, and another character’s wife had friends who were socialists and could have been reported to the HUAC)
Lots of screams in this movie – also, lots of funny moments
One of the bodies has disappeared!
I remember getting photo negatives as a kid
“We’re trying to find out who killed him, and where, and with what!”
“My car broke down out here. Can I use your phone?”
And one of my friends starts quoting The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I love this Movie Night Crew.
“It’s easy to be liberal with someone else’s whiskey.” – one of my friends
This just turned very Abbott and Costello
Splitting up and searching the house
Who started a game of billiards, broke, and then abandoned it? This piece of set dressing makes no sense if you know how pool works.
A rat! One that clearly came from a pet store. (source: I used to have a pet rat, and my sister does now)
The police are here (also, gotta love these classic cars)
A mysterious hand throws the evidence into the fire, then unlocks the safe with the evidence.
Ooh – the fireplace is also a hidden door!
Dead person #3
Oops – I meant “the cupboard with the weapons.”
“What the hell. I’ll go first, I’ve had a good life.” – Professor Plum
“So he found a flashlight, but the people upstairs couldn’t find flashlights?” – one of my friends
The chandelier falling is a perfectly legitimate thing to be anxious about.
This isn’t quite as funny as Arsenic and Old Lace, but a lot of the humor is similar (as are some of the plot details)
Mysterious incoming phone call…
Our fantastic hostesses are breaking out the cake pops š
Too bad there’s no window seat in this house
And now this just turned all Weekend at Bernie’s
Suspiciously Specific Denials ahoy!
Yet another secret passage
Dead body #4, and possibly #5
And #6, in short order
The butler is taking everyone through the evening so far
“And to make a long story short -” “TOO LATE!”
“If I was the murderer, why would I reveal to you how I did it?”
Random missionary gag
Arguing about how many bullets are left in the six-shooter
We rented this from Amazon, so we get all the alternate endings
“For she’s a jolly good fellow”
“Communism was just a red herring”
Shake, Rattle and Roll
That was a really good movie. š
I haven’t seen Clue in forever. Good stuff
Thanks!

Warren like his musical montages.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/05/06/star-trek-ii-wrath-khan-geekly?iid=sr-link4

If you haven’t googled, there is a scene in the middle of the credits, so don’t leave too soon.,,
Put in the “I thought he was dead years ago” category:

Today’s Google Doodle was cute
Colour me unsurprised:

Further proof that Himmler was a dick.
I’m sooooo tired.
What gives?!!?
Seriously?
Watching the opening ceremonies. There is a part where a biplane leave the stadium and flies around Rio
Hubby says, “the pilot should hi-five Jesus”
I laugh and tell him that is oh, so wrong
His reply, “but it would be all everybody would talk about”
Silly hubby
I’m watching them, too. Yay, Canada!
I hate to admit that I was a little bit bored watching the Minibosses. :-/. Still lots of cool moments in their setlist. Closing with Metroid was a plus. Not playing Castlevania was a huge minus.
Well that explains why some games work better on the laptop over the desktop:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Duo-E6600-vs-AMD-E-350
Not a great fan of the Olympics, so doubt I will be watching very much of it.
Crap joke for the day:
A man walks into work with two black eyes. His boss asks what happened. The man says, “I was sitting behind a big woman at church. When we stood up to sing hymns, I noticed that her dress was caught in her crack, so I pulled it out. She turned around and punched me square in the eye.” “Where did you get the other shiner?” the boss asks. “Well,” the man says, “I figured she preferred it in the crack, so I pushed it back in.”

Getting pissed on a ferry it’s not as bad as it looks..
I know you mean drunk, but I had to think about it for a moment.
Getting pissed on the Staten Island Ferry is something very different.

Day 2 of the Game On Expo. Son met the voice of the Master Chief.
And the voice of Cortana, who has also been the voice of Princess Peach. Both were very nice and gracious people.
Sometimes I get tired of Hollywood blockbusters and then the arty cinema has a showing of film I feel compelled to check out:

Just look at the price of the bloody things:

I won’t say anything since I have an expensive Corsair gaming keyboard.

……..annnnd Killer Queen steals the show ( and my heart) at this year’s gaming expo.
There are only 12 cabinets in the US & only onein the Southwest.
http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/8/29/4593934/killer-queen-joust-starcraft-giant-snail
Darn, I’m jealous.
Killer Queen pros:
Fun retro-feel competitive game with different roles.
Cons:
Standing close with a bunch of sweaty people.
The berries victory never seems to happen.
Another effect of attending the Expo: Desert Pixie is now Team Mystic.
WTF:

Ah they changed it the headline.
Mitch Unrein!!! Colorado boy!
Cool story

Unfortunately, we are unable to get Castles of Burgundy here at the moment but do have it on order at our local store once it becomes available again.

I didn’t know this was a thing.

Suspicious-looking weblink, but the site was fine for me. Possibly a Bladerunner even Van could love.
I kinda of agree with him:

That’s about as nerdrage bait-y as it’s possible for an article to be.
I agree with his comments too.
Me as well.
Morning Pan
Today we wrangle a bunch of stories into a box set.
The Game aon Expo was a great family success this past weekend!
Betrayal at House on the Hill is a new fave.
Anyone else play?
Betrayal is a fun one. We’ve played at Archon during pre-Sausagefest gaming.
I love Betrayal and am.looking forward to the expansion this fall
We play betrayal. We have both the original version and the updated one (where the pool is no longer on the second floor)
That Mystic Elevator seems a bit tricky. It can just show up wherever you want? My daughter actually drew the Collapsed Floor room and fell through it to the Mystic Elevator, which was a bit confusing.
Appears some of the BBC commentators on Rio 2016 are putting the NBC to shame.
CBC seems to do a good job here in Canada
http://io9.gizmodo.com/suicide-squad-sets-box-office-record-because-we-dont-de-1784950994
That was “Live Fast, Diarrhea” by The Vandals.

Life is full o business. Getting ready for WWC this weekend. http://www.whenwordscollide.org/

Morning silliness.
More Tuesday silliness. Actually, this looks like a gateway to a whole world of silliness:

I won a book that on Twitter..yah!
I’m really curious about the missing +word for this one.

Sigh. The Bay won’t ship Canadian Olympic goods to the US. š
The events have been pretty entertaining so far. š

I’ll probably be picking this up, but I’m still waiting for more reviews to see if I need to pick it up right away, or wait for a price drop.
I’m leaning towards waiting for a price drop.

First time watching.
A slice of 80’s hokum.
Kyle Maclachlan looks like he’s just left school.
