Finished Season 2 of Stranger Things. Decent, but didn’t really capture things quite like the original. I also thought they were trying way too hard this time with song selections that were just too on the nose most of the time.
Also watched the Scarlett Johansson version of “Ghost in the Shell”. I hadn’t partaken of any of the previous versions, video or comic. Decent and very beautiful. However, it seemed a much more shallower take on the questions of identity and what it means to be human than Blade Runner, or even the original Robocop, which it seemed to share an awful lot in common with.
I still haven’t seen SJ’s GitS. I recall thinking the original was pretty deep, a thousand lifetimes ago.
Your opinion is so wrong about Stranger Things 2, Ed. So wrong! So, so, so wrong.
Yeah Season 2 is pretty goddamn great. Ed just hates all things Netflix. It’s a Netflix bias I say! Get thee behind me, Edward!
DING DING! SHAME!*
*note. I don’t even watch goddamn Game of Thrones and I’m pretty sure I know everything there is to know. #GoTinherantinthesystem
I’m kind of on his page with the music. I did LOVE a lot of the music choices but I often found them distracting from the show. They didn’t advance or support the plot (just the time period) but often they where forced “front and center” anyway.
Several times it felt like it was a character who had randomly shown up and stood center screen yelling “ME ME notice ME hey guys look at ME.” Then it would exit frame with no explanation and the show would continue.
At least it was music I liked though.
I kid Ed. I didn’t have that reaction to the music, but it is a valid point.
Overall, I felt like it was akin to the way Alien/Aliens upped the stakes. And the they used an 80s movie trope beautifully in the final episode for a great emotional payoff.
Bingo! I think you really captured it. I mean, yes, I enjoyed all the songs and was able to appreciate the references. But, at the same time, they did tend to overpower the narrative.
Also, with the big setup going back to the trailers with Ghostbusters – I was a bit disappointed that they pretty much completely forgot about that reference in the approach to the climax.
That said, I did enjoy it! I don’t hate everything on Netflix…and, for the record, I like Flash Gordon! 🙂
Speaking of anime turned live action… I recently watched the live action Death Note on Netflix and it wasn’t half bad. I don’t watch a lot of anime, but will do so when I find one I like well enough (e.g. Witch Hunter Robin). Anyone have an opinion on the anime version of Death Note?
I’m not familiar with either, but I’ve heard good about both. Anime fans are surprised by the live action.
Hey Van, thanks for the link about Voyager 1 (previous page). That is pretty cool stuff.
So, any recommendations on which anime version of “Ghost in the Shell” to check out? Looking on Amazon, there are several, it seems.
I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw the restored version at the cinema earlier this year.
We rewatched the original anime GitS before we watched the new live action remake. To be honest, we liked the new one better.
So, this is actually a case of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) having issues. I know that everyone loves to hate the TSA. But, for a rare change, it wasn’t them this time.
It’s been a productive morning. Reconciled the cc and the bank accounts.
Also, did an update to the website.
Go me.
Off to renew a prescription and mail my Christmas Cards.
Wow. I just got the most realistic spam mail yet. It was a paypal receipt for a scuba knife. It looked so much like a real paypal receipt (I ordered something else last week so used it for comparison). It said, “if this payment was not authorized by you log in here and cancel it.)
Good thing I’m a paranoid mouse. I logged into paypal but on my own through my web browser, not through the link.
Seriously, this was scarily good.
Once the scammers acquire basic grammar skills, we’re all doomed.
When you transported on here, did my starship have a sign on it that said “Dead Klingon Storage?”
You win. You win.
“Damn Scotty. That’s some serious gourmet shit.”
Agreed with Lo – I actually laughed out loud! 😀
He’s dead Jim. Zed’s dead.
😀
So it’s raining today. The first since I got my new roof.
… and my roof is leaking more than ever.
So now instead of getting all of my errands run that I had to do this morning because I will be waiting from 1 to 5pm for the cable repair guy … I am now waiting for the roofer.
And also trying to dry a hardwood floor.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
That sucks JOe, I would assume the work is still under warranty.
Yeh. The guy is on the roof now trying to track down the issue.
Water leaks are a particularly evil adversary. The point of entry is rarely anywhere near where the water shows up.
Couldn’t find the source of the Nile.
Will have to come back on a dry day and start taking things apart.
Ugh x2000. Sorry, J0e. If you shake your fist at the sky, you’ll be directing your anger in the right direction.
Happy Holidays!!!!
🙁
LoPanta Claus has sent off his secret LoPanta gift.
INDEEEED!
DPSS gift has been purchased and obtained, I still have to address and mail though.
I’d never wholesale disparage any musical genre, but I’m pretty resistant to Emo/Screamo.
That said, this is a cool and lovingly detailed geekout by a devout fan of the genre. I’ll always support that kind of thing.
I got my Deadpan Secret Santa gift in the mail today! Thank you very much, Dark Lord Mangan! 😉
I hope you enjoy it, Darth Bowen!
Mwahahaha >:-)
Morning Pan
While I love my husband dearly, sometimes I wish he was a little more handy. When something in the house needs fixing, I’m the one he calls on to deal with it.
We finished The Punisher last night on NexFlix. It took a few episodes to get going but, over all, I’d rate it fairly high on the Marvel/Netflix scale.
The Ed shall hate it!!!!!*
*I love you, Ed.
I have one episode left to go. Definitely a slow-starter, but I’ve enjoyed the plot twists and turns. Especially when Frank found the Green Lantern ring and turned into the Silver Surfer. (fake spoilers)
I know, right? And that cross over where he fights the Iron Fist…
Using a dis-guarded Iron MAN suit … who would have seen THAT coming.
You know your hubby had a rough day at work when he comes home and says “thank you for being normal”
I guess he had to deal with some crazy parents yesterday
That would make for a good Hallmark card.
Well we aren’t The targeted audience.
CL: Arcs Of Command — Caspian
I just dig this song!
Caspian enjoyed their smoke machine when we saw them open for Katatonia. In a tiny club. Making concert photos impossible.
Best heard with an unkempt beard, gauged ears, and a fez at an independently-owned coffee shop.
(They’re hipsters, you see. . . .) And yes, that is a fucking hipster list. RE: Kendrick Lamarr: people keep recommending him. I’ve listened, but I don’t get it.
AV Club might need to loosen their man-bun.
In addition to the Pearl Harbor attack and the shooting of John Lennon, December 7 is also the day that Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released.
In fact, the long, sweeping shots of the Enterprise from that first screening are still playing, right now.
As I like ST:TMP i’m Going to stick my tongue out at ya!
I like it to. At the very least, that’s where we got the excellent theme song for ST:TNG. 😀
It’s definitely one of the good Trek movies.
Yeh me too …
… but still – Bonus points for this “In fact, the long, sweeping shots of the Enterprise from that first screening are still playing, right now.”
This is where VelociJack mauls the hunter just before he says “Clever!” 😉
And, if you’re in the mood for a most excellent CGI version:
btw – when you see the name Dennis Bailey – he’s the guy responsible for the CGI model of the Enterprise that everyone uses in their videos. And it is amazing.
The Terror was an intense read. I seriously can’t wait for this.
Crap joke for the day:
Two scientists walk into a bar.
“I’ll have H2O,” says the 1st.
“I’ll have H2O, too,” says the 2nd.
Bartender gives them water because he is able to distinguish the boundary tones that dictate the grammatical function of homonyms in coda position, as well as pragmatic context.
Doesn’t anyone get poisoned in this joke?
I think I may have.
With the help of Alcohol, I have forced myself to get the boxes of winter clothes out and am swapping them with the “summer” clothes in my closet.
I hate giving up on summer but I fear it has given up on me.
Does anyone else still have clothes they wore in high school?
Good grief. What’s the deal with all the black, turtle necks? I am going to see if I can wear a different one for every day left in December.
That’s festive, right?
Is now the time on Sprockets when we dahnce?
I’m betting he won’t turn up but gawd it would be good to see an internet troll get his ass handed to him:
Attention, contact with a female, a chance to play the victim (after she kicks his ass, and he claims she cheated) – – most trolls desperately crave these things. He just might.
The new StAr Wars film is looking to fall on the good side of the entertainment equation:
Finally getting to Sense8 season 2. Love the V for Vendetta nod.
Mindhunter. Seriously good, smart stuff.
Hip-Hop Family Tree. Fascinating non-fiction comic about the origins of Rap music.
And we’re off to see The Shape of Water today. Don’t let me down, Guillermo.
Doesn’t come out in the U.K. till February..the bar stewards!
It’s good! More like his older stuff.
It’s *real* gooood
So I gathered, it’s got some good reviews.
Got to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 last night – definitely a worthy sequel. I don’t know when’s the last time my son has laughed so hard.
+25 for familial laughter.
That’s even better than the movie, which is a blast.
Primordial rap music from Treacherous 3, including a pre-fame Kool Moe Dee. Call me a cranky old man, but I like this better than anything I’m hearing made today.
Holy shit…THIS rabbit hole
Right? “High Power Rap” from Crash Crew is another one. And then there’s Grandmaster Flash. . .
Morning Pan
Today is backwards day for hubby. Instead of working late, he’s going in early.
Hey Bunny – – I emailed you at the gmail address last week. Did you receive it?
I love (most) of QOTSA. I love LOVE all of Kyuss… but Josh Homme has proven time and time again to be one of rock’s biggest assholes.
Ugh. What a utter dick move. I really hate it when the asshole personalities within a band start to affect how I enjoy that band’s music.
Bingo. Not for nothin but he clearly has a drinking problem. When I saw them a few months back he could barely form complete sentences in the between songs banter he was so sloshed.
And so his statement says. “Sorry, I was drunk.”
I’d only accept his apology if it was his first step on the path to getting clean and sober. No excuse.
I got a lot done this morning.
Now, off to the store. I need to get removeable hooks to hand the stockings on the fireplace.
Why would the box office even sell tickets for $485 apiece? I suppose it’s an interesting way to try to put scalpers out of business. . . .
Excuse me, while I try to start breathing again after seeing a $2000 checkout price come up in my Ticketmaster app.
WTF could you possibly be going to for that amount of cash?
I’m not going to anything for $2000. . . . That was what came up in Ticketmaster during today’s Hamilton ticket lottery. With a little patience and persistence, though, I was able to get $75 tix.
We only own 18 of the games listed. I guess we better get buying 😉
Bunny, your Glittery Xmas card arrived today, thank you.
Hubby asked for a Ferrari for Christmas, so I got him one. True, it’s a hot wheels Ferrari but that’s as close as he’s going to get
Tonight clunky classic is Kiss Kiss Bang! Bang!
You can it it’s 2004 from the mobile phones..
+tell
starring Batman and Iron Man.
‘Clunky’ nothing.
Bunny, did you get my email at your gmail address last week? (Sorry for the repeated question – – I figure my previous post got lost in the waves above)
See below
I have all my Gmail account hooked up to my mobile devices. Except I forgot to add the new personal email. So it got missed. Rectifying that now
DPSS gift is awayyyyyy
We got a Xmas card from our milkman today. Really nice gesture! Also I need to ask Dani a few questions…
I’ll grant you the relevance of Nina Simone but, even though I am a fan of Moody Blues and The Cars, it seems like a paper thin crop this year.
Booooo. I hope they put Bon Jovi’s plaque next to The 1910 Fruitgum Company.
I don’t object to Dire Straits, The Cars, Nina Simone, or Moody Blues, but it’s a travesty that Judas Priest and Link Wray were left out. I’d also cast my votes for Depeche Mode, Rage Against the Machine, LL Cool J, and Radiohead. My votes were completely shut out.
OOOF!!! I had forgotten all those candidates. It looks even worse now
Sad day, although not unexpected. The difference in his health from 2010 to 2014 was pretty daunting. Between his diabetes and alcoholism and other life choices I wasn’t expecting him to live more than 5 years. I am happy that I got to speak to him personally on two separate occasions.
RIP Warrel, may your spirit forever burn bright.
Well ticket booked to see the new Star Wars flick tomorrow.
Never heard of it
We’re not seeing it until after Christmas
Oh good means you won’t mind spoilers.
Kick yourself!!!!!
Why do that when I can kick YOU?
Crap quip for the day:
I’m never been very good at flying, which is why I always go on by plane..
Many props to the author for this massive undertaking. As is usually the case with these things, the guy has some wacky opinions. “Bullet the Blue Sky” number 19?
The fact that anything off of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is in the top 20 is questionable at best
I’m decorated out
Pics!
We have one little decoration on our front walk. He’s been dubbed “The Lone Reindeer.”
Morning Pan.
Sometimes I wish mornings would come in the afternoon.
Don’t know about that but I’ve heard that morning becomes Electra.
NPR talking about today’s Net Neutrality vote.
They had a guy on to present the case for getting rid of it. Litterally his whole argument boiled down to
” … the handful of guys in control of the Net haven’t done anything bad yet, so why not give them complete autonomy.”
While that might be an argument (a totally lame, 4th grader on the playground argument) in defense of why we should trust these men … it is NOT an argument for getting rid of Net Neutrality.
They presented no argument as to why, for the public’s sake, it needed to be gotten rid of.
So I did a google search to see if anyone had presented any reasons why getting rid of it would be a good thing. That search led to Breitbart (of course) so I clicked. I figured if anyone could manufacture a sound reason it would be that propaganda site.
Nope.
The best they could come up with was
– “It stifles technological development”, which is proven false by the shear fact that the internet thrived and grew like mad before the current technology for throttling and blocking existed.
– “It limits the amount of profits an ISP can make.” Big fat harry deal. It doesn’t PREVENT an ISP from making profits and how MUCH profit a private company makes is NOT in the general public’s interest or concern to begin with.
So … how can we even have a “debate” on Net Neutrality when the side that is against it can’t even offer a “public’s best interest” reason to get rid of it.
Madness.
The thing that aggravates me is that the majority of the public do not want Net Neutrality lifted, but the FCC is going forward anyway under the authority of a handful of people. The Pubs are going to pay a price for this come mid-terms.
The Alta government are currently debating a bill making certain procedures mandatory for sexual harassment in the workplace.
Like this, the argument against it has been, “companies are pretty good at taking care of this on their own so it doesn’t need to be mandated”
People are silly
It’s pretty clear who’s in charge.
You’re more optimistic than I am about them facing repercussions. . . . Between gerrymandering and their tried-and-true population control methods, I’m less confident that the villains will be removed from their seats.
Agreed. Seen it too often
All November sales have been entered. I think my eyes are crossing
Hmmm. You might want to go back and check that. They should be dotted.
The Great Pit of Carkoon. It’s a big, swallowing hole in the middle of the desert, without much of an identity. You could just fall into it, and disappear …
Lando Calrissian. Rules over a city in the clouds. Let’s just hope that when Joe Sakic looks back at the Matt Duchene trade he isn’t muttering “This deal is getting worse all the time …”
I love that San Jose (home of the grizzliest beards in the league) are Chewbacca.
Is Wyshynski leaving Yahoo for ESPN?
Dunno. I can’t see ESPN hiring anyone after the great purge
I haven’t watch a full Coyotes game yet this season, and I don’t think that will change if the continue to win one game out of every four.
All you need to know about the latest government fuckery.
I quit.
I enjoyed The Last Jedi, good fun but no Empire Strikes Back.
Spoilers!! You ruined it!
Evo Terra was pretty emphatically and loudly disappointed.
We’re going Saturday with fingers crossed.
Anyone want a no-holds discussion page, as we’ve done with other films in the past? We’d still have to request that everyone put leading characters to avoid sidebar spoilers….
I saw that Evo trashed it pretty handily on the twitters, right after the LA Times raved about it being the best yet. Maybe the film will be categorized as polarizing? May see it this weekend, maybe I should to avoid spoilers.
I like Evo and all but I am pretty sure his will be the real exception to the rule here
Evo is a cool dude, but our tastes haven’t always synced in the past. But this is Star Wars, I don’t care if people said it was in the running for a Razzie, I’d still see it in the theater.
It’s part of the Star Wars Universe and let’s face it, if it doesn’t have Jar Jar Binks then it certainly won’t be the worst film in the franchise.
It’s currently 94% Fresh after 232 reviews.
I’m not worried
It’s also at 86 (universal acclaim) on the more “high brow” meta-critic
We’ll be seeing Saturday afternoon in any case. So, I’d be up for a spoilerific discussion page.
Your wish shall be granted!
I’ll probably see in mid Jan so Ill be late to the party
Watching the worst team in the NHL vs the best team. Yep.
CANNOT believe Tampa has this good of hockey
The Lightning never stay bad for long. The Coyotes never stay good for long.
^Ancient Chinese proverb.
That was in my fortune cookie this week!
Crap joke for the day:
During the communist-era period in Russia, a husband and wife are taking a walk; during winter time. The husband says “oh, it’s starting to snow ”, his wife is insistent that it’s actually raining; not snowing . As they continue their walk, they spot a soldier familiar to them. When they approach the soldier, they ask him if he thinks it’s snowing or raining. His opinion is that’s its raining . Rather smugly the wife turns to the husband and says “see, I told you! For Rudolph the Red knows rain dear”.
Morning Pan
Another Chinook warmth this morning. The weather man says it won’t last and we may actually get winter like weather this weekend
Don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows
The news said today is national cat herders day. What an odd thing to celebrate
meow
So a recent FB Bjorking set me to thinking (always dangerous)…
So here is Friday’s topic for pondering – TOP 5 PROBABLY INSANE BUT CERTAINLY BONKERS, WOMEN WHO ARE ALSO POSSIBLY MUSICAL GENIUSES.
(I figure we could also do this for Men but somehow I think that is a much longer list.)
So the two who come immediately to mind are Kate Bush and the already mentioned Bjork.
Any other nominees?
Tori Amos takes the Top 5 spots.
Shirley Manson and Stevie Nicks may not be geniuses, but they’re immensely talented. And (apparently) nuts. Sarah McLachlan?
Yes, we’d need to spend the rest of our lives compiling the list of crazy male musical geniuses.
Chelsea Wolfe perhaps, she’s a genius, but I’m not sure of the crazy, although she has the “look,”
Sounds a lot like The Ongoing History of New Music’s episode on Queens of Quirk, though he never referred to any of the women as bonkers. IIRC, the women he picked were Bjork, Kate Bush, Patty Smith, Florence Welch, and several others. He also did a Kings of Quirk episode too.
Patty Smith?
Hmmm. Definitely talented but I am un-aware of her … “eccentricities”.
I have always suspected that Stevie Nicks’ persona was a purposefully crafted marketing device. She talks the game but the only unstable vibe I got from her was when she was stoned and or drunk.
I am not familiar with some of those other mrs ladies. I should check them out.
Agreed. To label any of these artists as “crazy” or “insane” or “bonkers” is pretty goddamn unfair. Quirk is a much better label.
“Crazy” is probably not the most PC term. Sure. “Quirky” or “eccentric” are probably friendlier terms.
Although all of the women cited above are more like Trent Reznor or Ozzy crazy, not Ted Nugent or David Lee Roth crazy.
Perhaps – “not processing data in the same way that a statistical majority would”?
Okay, so “bonkers” tends to have negative connotations because we tend to attach that to folks who have loud arguments on a public street with sign posts, or shoot up school buildings, or Donald trump.
But sometimes “bonkers” is a gift that enables people to see the world in a totally different way and present it to us in a stunningly wonderful aural or visual fashion.
I would still be a little frightened to be alone with some of those folks at a small table in a dark restaurant. I mean, when I look into someone’s eyes … it makes me uncomfortable if it is “standing room only” in there. http://tinyurl.com/ya47yb42
I think I shall shock the world and clean my desk this morning
It’s National Cupcake Day, here in the States.
I’m taking full advantage… right after I get that new dental crown.
cough.
Hey, Pan! Saw The Last Jedi last night. Still a little wired from the experience. Looking forward to that spoiler post.
The Last Jedi thread is created! I’ve suggested that folks frontfill their spoiler posts, to avoid secrets being spotted in the preview panel, but you still might want to consider avoiding that part of the page until you’ve seen the movie.
Thumbs up or Thumbs down?
Thumbs up from me.
Very good, with the exception of Evo, everyone else I know that has seen it have positive things to say.
Today for lunch I’m having Van’s favourite food. Left over pizza
Do you eat it with a fork or by hand?
No need for fancy stuff JJ, hands are fine,
*cough*
I once caused a minor stir in a London Pizza Hut because I was using my hands instead of a knife and fork.
I was apparently supporting a stereo-type about Americans.
The Netflix write up: he opposes demons in all their malevolent forms, but his faith will be tested when he confronts the very source of evil .
It sure where the “zero” come in, though
Pressing start now…
Wait, this is subtitled? It’s going to make the pbp harder but here goes.
Spooky house

Why do possessed people always walk from a back bend?
They are literally nailing her to a cross.
My name is Lucas Vidal

This is the best typo of 2017.
😆
HA!!!!
Daddy’s head exploded
Time to pray
Woah, was he praying a long time
He’s reading something funny
The exorcists are considered crazy
They want an apprentice
He’s tired
It’s the same crazy lady
Daddy was possessed

My mother is dead
Night
What a trip
That’s a pretty comfy looking bed.
Come meet me for an exorcism
Open the box
It was blessed by the pope
You have been blessed
Why is it, 90% of the time, it’s females that are possessed?
Father Pedro is toast
Tell me how Pedro died…
I will teach you
Oh look, another possessed woman
Paula isn’t here anymore
An old friend
Oh. Paula is Lucas’s sister
He doesn’t believe them
Make an effort
What did you say?
She’s sucking her own toe
Well, that didn’t work
His mentor has a plan
The demon wants his mentor
We need more sedative
Little sister has been made better
Mom however…
You’re supposed to use the sedative on the possessed, not yourself
He sees his dead daddy
Don’t let him take your picture, it will steal your soul
See, what did I tell you
Shut up
Father Lucas is now possessed
I will defecate on you
Demons also seem to like licking people
You’re not my father
Now he is nailing Lucas to the cross
Your brother was a better man
The interview is over
Sneaking back in
Yeah Bruno, this won’t end well
The demon jumped ship
Now his friend knows
And the circle continues…
What did I think of this movie? It was ok. It didn’t add anything new to the genre, but it wasn’t completely derivative either. I’d put it in the middle of the pack
CP: Against Me! : Osama bin Laden as the Crucified Christ
This one is essential.
Hey Van I think you know who the only “famous dong” is here…
Tommy Lee?
My DPSS gift arrived today! Awwww, thanks Secret Santa! It’s a giant coffee mug that I will fill to the brim 🙂
*Not a fucking oversized Reese’s mug.
Well we know she isn’t going to associate with the most hated man on the nets today 😀
Not The Onion. WaPo is a reputable news source. This is actual fascism from our govt. As in, the true definition of the word.
Yeah this flew under the fucking radar didnt it. All hail fearless and wise leader…
Showing up in other news outlets now but can it get any national exposure over the weekend?
This is just a whole new awful.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is really damn good.
Oh yeah, powered through that one as was I really enjoying it.
Although it would drive me nuts to be with someone who gets up early so you never see them without makeup.
Have a friend who dated a girl like that.
Any makeup-less activities had to be done in the dark. If they were sharing a bathroom, after she’d showered she’d put her makeup on in the shower.
He never saw her without makeup.
I found it kind of creepy. I think after a while, he did as well.
Added to a watch list somewhere in my brain.
I just finished Mindhunter. Holy crap. That is all.
He really went off the deep end with his arrogance.
Definitely. This is one that will haunt you.
I dug it.
It will surprise nobody we are gaming tonight.
Can we escape from 100 million b.c.? We didn’t last week.
It’s fun but takes a couple of hours to play. Last night we got out but messed with the timelineenough that, when we got back, the world was ruled by robot overlords
Are you on the square?
Are you on the level?
I mean I’m willing to swear right here right now b4 the devil
The author of Dr. Zhivago taught me the secret to great bolognese.
Pasternak?
No, it’s all in the sauce.
I just…. I just wish you’d speak the Queen’s English once in a while
Morning Oan
We had to buy a ladder this morning. We’ve been in our new house for a bout 1.5 years and the lights are starting to burn out. We have 10’ ceilings so standing on a chair wasn’t going to work
Who the hell is Oan? I swear, I wrote Pan
Oan is the name we are known by in Asgard.
Every Oansday, we slaughter a goat and feast on it, leaving the bones for Michael R Mennenga.
This is so that he has a bone to pick with each of you.
JW: Brief Encounter from 1945
Probably a bit too twee for younguns, but it was nice to finally watch it all the way through.
Was that your classic pick of the evening?
Yup.
Was it about the battle of Iwo Jima?
No.
Battle of Sagami Bay?
Was it about the battle of Two Jawas?
Was it about the Battle of Hooper and Jaws?
I think he ask for a bottle of Aunt Jemima ?
So now I’m wondering if Rhettro worked out who sent him his DPSS gift.
Morning Pan
Today is hubby’s birthday. How does he get to celebrate? By working late.
Hubby is not amused
It’s snowing. Go figure
I’m dreaming of a White Christmas..
You and most of the trump Administration.
hmm. The weatherman says we are going to get 25cm (approx 1ft.) of snow in the next 24 hours. Looks like a white Christmas is on tap for us.
That’s quite a lot.
Have they canceled schools?
Ha ha ha ha ha!
No, they haven’t cancelled school. Generally the rule is, -20 C. To allow an indoor recess, around -35 to cancel.
For snow, 2 feet in 24 hours before they even consider it. If the buses can make it to the school without being more than an hour or so late, school it is.
Also, it’s actually only about five or six cm. In snowfall so far. By this time tomorrow it will be deeper.
Hubby was hoping it wouldn’t snow for another week as then he’d be on holidays
Yet another of my pet peeves … web sites with a “Our Top (X) List” that put each and every item of that list on IT’S OWN PAGE. So if it is a top 25, you have to click (and load) 25 separate pages (and all of their ads) to see the list.
I refuse.
With you there JJ, been mowing about that for years.
Trying to get your eyes to see more ads.
However, after school, if there is enough snow, they may decide to cancel the council meeting and hubby might not have to work late. Kids and teachers may have to trudge through the snow but parents seem to be a little more delicate
Buncha snowflakes! (literally)
Wait, is Titanic 20 years old this year? Jeeeeeesh.
Apparently, George Lucas commissioned this ad to appear in Vanity Fair, congratulating him for Titanic overtaking Star Wars as the highest-grossing film (something like that).
I assure you, it’s not what you think. It’s a gorgeous heartbreaking look at singer Laura Jane Grace’s divorce from her wife do to her transitioning from male to female. Highest recommendation.
This whole album is highest recommendation. NSFW for language and a breast on the cover
I’m not sure that is a proper equation.
“n” usually denotes a fixed integer, such as a count of objects or the degree of an equation.
When two integers are needed, for example for the dimensions of a matrix, one commonly uses m and n.
But the Matrix was a completely different franchise so I may be getting Descartes before the Force.
Goddammit JJ….
Seriously this is highbrow shit. That’s a good boy.
Think therefore am I.
I realize I had to go a long way for that one, like seriously a long way, like “a galaxy far far away” for that one but it was worth it. I’ve waited decades to use that pun.

I gave hubby the Mangan metal list and he was upset because he was forced (yes, forced) to buy several albums.
I might use this to create a playlist on Amazon Music. Hmmm…
Cellar Darlings’ “This is the Sound” might be my album of the year for 2017.
I admit, Cellar Darling was an oversight on my part, although it definitely wouldn’t have cracked the Top 10.
Some noteworthies:
-Exit Eden is a group of female vocalists doing Metallized covers of old pop songs. Some are awful, but the good ones are amazing.
-Zeal & Ardor is a guy who combined Metal sounds with Slave and Chain Gang chants, along with some tinkly piano. Yep.
-Galley Beggar is awesome, folksy, Zeppeliny, rock.
-The Necromancers album is just damn good, Doomy Metal.

I can’t stop laughing at the fact that our government is so desperate to make us look elsewhere for five minutes that they’ve resorted to alien footage. LOOK, YOU GUYS. REAL ALIENS. ALIENS ARE REAL.
Time to build that SPACE WALL ?
Morning Pan
We got more snow last night. We are now up to about 10cm. meh.
Today’s schedule has me wanting to run screaming into the streets.
Way too much stuff. Way too little time.
I’m already a day behind. Yesterday’s sink replacement project that I had budgeted 3 hours for … took 12 hours.
Ahhhh … the holidays. :l
Those customs boys and gals are such spoilsports. My DPSS gift arrived today and I know what’s inside without opening the box.
Thanks Desert Pixie.
So glad it arrived before xmas. I hope you find them useful….
I’m gonna follow-up here about the banned words thing, where the conversation won’t veer into insanity. (But of course, feel free to disagree, rant, freak out, etc)
So apparently, we’re going to accept the flimsy, vague statement from the CDC head, and continue just accepting that the government has likely sent one of its agencies a list of words they’re not allowed to say.
It’s yet to be seen. Will the scientists bow down to the overlord’s “guidance” or will they stick to their guns and say “you told the press these words weren’t banned”?
… or, are there clever enough boffins there to replace the banned words and phrases with accurate words and phrases that Steve Bannon would find EVEN WORSE ?
Unfortunately the best “we the people” could do is get some sort of “petition in support of freedom of speech for scientists” started and send it to the CDC.
Went out to get the mail. It’s not too cold. We are sitting at Bout 10cm of snow (approx 4”), so not too bad at all
Happy Holidays y’all… looks like I missed out on the Secret Santa this year. Sorry about that. Life being crazy and all happened I guess, but just wanted to pop in and let you know that I love you all and Merry Christmas and all that jam.
I think I need to create some carnage. I’m going to be bad and play a game during the day.

So added to my schedule this morning was a meeting with my roofers to come up with a NEW plan for stopping my new roof from leaking.
My catch pans had collected 2 gallons of water by 3am this morning and more than another gallon by 6am. 🙁
I’m sorry this isn’t just a political metaphor for you, J0e.

Tickets booked. We’re seeing Star Wars next Thursday.
I just tried to watch a BBC Documentary on the KKK. I lasted 3:40 and I had to stop. I could not handle the ignorance of the klan members being interviewed.
Ok, in the US is telling the time in the 24 hour clock called military time? And does only the military use it?
Some people call it that. And no.
Medical profession uses military time, too
Just got back from seeing the optometrist. So lucky me, I managed to get an ingrown eyelash that ended up scratching the eye. The doctor put painkiller drops in my eye. It now feels weird as my one eye starts to go numb
Well.
Started searching for the status of the jacket I had ordered for my dad back on Dec 12th.
Only to discover that the order is listed as “canceled” with no explanation or so much as an email to me telling me it had been canceled.
Nice.
Because things have been going too well lately.
Nice of them to notify you. Fuckers.
Sounds like someone needs a hug *hug*
I do
That sucks. I know how you feel.
Hey Deadpan
My house is nice and clean for the holidays
We’re not quite there yet.
We refuse to get there. Too much goddamn work
Working on it, now that I have some time off.
Canada Post wins again. As per usual, I expect to get my Secret Santa gift after Christmas 🙁
I don’t have mine yet either. Look at it this way: a late Christmas surprise? 🙂
Maybe the postal system is just targeting Canadians.
Curses.
I’m seriously considering upgrading my Dropbox, not just for music, but also as a backup destination. Anyone else gone this route? Or want to caution me against doing it? Or have a better alternative to suggest?

I am always leery of storing large amounts of data with a company who, at a whim, can suddenly up the price of their services, potentially leaving you in sort of an extorted situation.
Worse still is the seemingly capricious nature of “tech company ownership”.
You may have a signed agreement with Mega Tech over who owns your stored data and who they share that with … but if you wake up in the morning and Mega Tech has been bought out by Giga Data, they are not necessarily bound by the agreement you signed with a company that no longer exists.

Hey Pan
Happy Christmas Eve.
We are going to watch Die Hard this evening.
Merry Christmas Deadpan
It’s the future calling, it’s all going to be ok..probably.
It’s Christmas at Ground Zero…. Or at least the Prime Meridian
We just listened to that too.
I didn’t know Weird Al had a song about the Prime Meridian.
Nothing honors the baby Jesus like a Betrayal at House on the Hill marathon.
Nice!
Merry Christmas to you all!
Hope everyone has a FUN and safe holidays.
What a wonderful Christmas Eve with my family. Got the sister and her crew to pop over to our place. Fun times and I have to admit — I am spent on playing Betrayal At House On the Hill for the next few months.
Thank you DPSS. It arrived late yesterday. I will post a pic on FB tomorrow.
I post this every year.
I post it again here….
Fuck Christmas!
It’s a waste of fucking time
Fuck Santa
He’s just out to get your dime
Fuck Holly and fuck Ivy
And fuck all that mistletoe
White-bearded big fat bastards
Ringing bells where e’er you go
And bloated men in shopping malls
All going Ho-Ho-Ho
It’s Christmas fucking time again!
Fuck Christmas
It’s a fucking Disney show
Fuck carols
And all that fucking snow
Fuck reindeer
And fuck Rudolph
And his stupid fucking nose
And fucking sleigh bells tinkling
Everywhere you fucking goes
Fuck stockings and fuck shopping
It just drives us all insane
Go tell the elves
To fuck themselves
It’s Christmas time again!
We heard Eric Idle perform this live!
Thanks again Desert Pixie, The mug and iPhone case are great.
Yay!
Slept in this Xmas morning. We’re doing low key this year.
I enjoyed the Who Xmas special, thin on plot, but a nice send off for Capaldi.
We’re so far behind.
I gave up.
Just finished watching it. Agree completely with Van on this one.
Merry Christmas, Deadpan. It’s been a long but excellent weekend here in Texas.
Merry Christmas to all. And to all a Daisy Johnson.

On Tuesday, when he ventured to the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, Trump marked his 85th day at one of his golf clubs since becoming president.
Since Trump is staying at his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Florida for Christmas, Tuesday also happened to be the 111th day the president spent at a Trump property since his inauguration in January, as The Washington Examiner’s Kelly Cohen noted in a White House pool report.
Added up, and Trump has spent more than 33% of his presidency at a Trump property since taking office. And on more than 25% of his days in office, Trump was at one of his golf clubs.

Btw “vaguely human” is what we reserve for species with human like qualities like chimps and actual pigs. This piece of fuck doesn’t even deserve to be called that.

” But today is not “the Internet” — this is the post-Internet. It doesn’t mean that the early Internet guys were guilty of blind hubris from the get-go, it means that an entire generation has passed. Blaming Stewart Brand for Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft is like blaming Orville Wright for the Dresden saturation bombing. ”
Tickets digitally secured for tonight’s showing of “Jumanji”.
Here’s hoping it is a fun as the previews make it seem.
Jumanji was a lot of fun.
Movie wise, tons of plot holes and such issues but that’s not why you go to see this one. See it because it’s a lot of fun.
Also – this may have been my favorite roles for several of these actors.
From the mouth of Bono Iver
“I think music has gotten very girly. And there are some good things about that, but hip-hop is the only place for young male anger at the moment—and that’s not good.”
I can’t defend the comment. . . There are so many ways I could refute this, I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
Bono still does a lot of good for oppressed people in the world, so I don’t think we should crucify him over one dumb, mostly-harmless (please do correct me) comment. I’m pretty sure that the Internet will burn him alive for this, though.
I don’t think that Bono is some great sage, but I think his statement is similar to what Mike Mennenga used to say about most movies being marketed to 12 year old girls. In other words, the music market will adapt to the largest music buying demographic and that seems to be young girls at the moment.
Yes, I don’t think he is wrong, I just think that a guy who writes songs might have found a more eloquent way to put it.
BTW – My experience is that this music phenomenon is very cyclical in pop. I suffered through the rise of pop music’s Boy Bands in the 90’s and before that it was the late 70’s, pre-new wave, James Taylor/soft rock/MOR period Ick.
Punk was coming on at that same time but unless you had access to a college radio station or lived close enough to a major US city you probably had no way to even no Punk existed.
To clarify, I thought that durring both of those periods pop music got very … “girlie”
What you and Rhettro are speaking to is the marketing machine, not music itself. If you search for certain restrictions (including mine) you will find them. Music itself is very open to many voices of any and no gender.
Atomic Blonde: smokin’ 80’s playlist strung together with bits of Charlize Theron beating people up. What more could you ask for?

So it turns out you have to work pretty hard to obtain Van’s gravy.
I misread that as “Van’s gravity”.
You honestly have no idea how funny it is that you say this….
I did however, feel a disturbance in the farce.
Got your card in today’s mail Jack & Pixie. Thanks
American Kinder Surprises are called Kinder Joys. Theyre still egg-shaped and still come with a toy, but there’s no chocolate egg inside. Instead, there are two plastic compartments. One has the toy, the other has a plastic wedge to scoop chocolate balls out of a pool of white goop.
Inspector: (continuing) And what is this one: Spring Surprise?
Mr. Hilton: Ah, that’s one of our specialities. Covered in dark, velvety chocolate, when you pop it into your mouth, stainless steel bolts spring out and plunge straight through both cheeks.
Inspector: (stunned) Well where’s the pleasure in THAT?!? If people pop a nice little chockie into their mouth, they don’t expect to get their cheeks pierced!!! In any case, it is an inadequate description of the sweetmeat. I shall have to ask you to accompany me to the station.
2 out of my 3 kids prefered these to the chocolate egg ones
Since work wants holiday allocations in by the end of January, i’m Wondering if we can start talking about the possibility of a 2018 meet up.
Let’s!
I’m up for it
I’m assuming it will be in Arizona.
Really how late in the year would be a start.
What do you suggest? What times work best for you?

First two episodes of Jean-Claude Van Johnson min-review:
Jean-Claude is really great in this self-parody, and there are some damn funny moments, but overall, I’m not feeling any desire to keep going with it.
I’ve finally watched the first episode of Peaky Blinders.
Sam Neill is a rare treasure of an actor.
I will watch more.
He is fantastic on that show. So is Cillian Murphy. And Sophie Rundle. And the guy who plays Arthur. And Aunt Polly.
30 effen below and hubby and I get slurpees. I don’t know if that speaks to our Canadianess or our sanity
Did you snowshoe from home to the 7-11?
… or take a car 😉
We’ve been having a blast playing the Hogwarts Battle deck-building game. We’re up to level 4. Very cool how the game changes and gets more options as you advance, like a video game.
I don’t know if you’ll get these on BBC America or in Canada but two shows I’ve enjoyed over the Xmas periods.
A Christmas Carol goes wrong – the premise that an amateur acting group invade the set of live production of the Dickens books. Chaos ensures and it had me laughing out loud.
Inside No.9 – and anthology tv series that is dark and twisted. Hit and miss but some good episodes so far.
It’s early. It’s dark. It’s cold. Why am I awake?

Past midnight, so Happy New Year Deadpan!
Happy New Year, Van! W000!
Don’t rile him up
You had better perform sweet cheeks.
I don’t know that song
You will.
Happy New Years Van!!
and now, Happy New Years everyone else!!
Except Pacific time zone!
Happy 2018. I welcome you!
Fun low key New Years at Chuck Tomasi’s! Space Team was fun chaos with 9 players. Code Names was less fun.
Happy New Year, all.
Ok to get the ball rolling in the new year. Weekends I’m in off in May, June and July:
May
19th and 20th
June
9th and 10th
July
14th an 15th
The May date works best for me but I can probably make any of them work
June is out for us, due to a big skating event.
If – – if – – we’re looking at an AZ MMMmmmeetup, then we’re ok with that, but remember what July is like here.
I might have a problem getting extra days for the May weekend as I’m already taking a week off in May but I can always ask.
July it is? It’s not the first time we’ve been in Arizona in July. That’s what air conditioning is for.
See if May works for others first.
When was Honkies allowed in the English edition of Scrabble? What meeting did I miss.
I used that word for a big score and now I feel dirty.
Yeah, I always thought geese were messy animals too
Racist!
Happy new year Pan!!!!
The cold started to take its toll and we lost the internet yesterday
The cold has really impacted us in Florida too. I’ve had to wear long pants and shoes instead of shorts and sandals all week. And I was on vacation. Oh the humanity.
Today is my last lazy day for awhile. Blaaaagh.
So if not comic con why San Diego?
I mean I can get there direct from London so that’s a plus so I’m onboard if people want to meetup there.
What are peoples’ thoughts on a Sausagefest-centric MMMmmmmeetup in St. Louis in Sept/Oct. ArchCon…
Does the con have an exact date yet?
Looks like Oct 12–14
This is doable for me.
I have no weekends off in October, so would need to take two weeks off.
Not a dealbreaker, but not my preferred option.
No direct flight from London to SLC.
FYI: SLC is the airport code for Salt Lake City, Utah. No one wants to go there. The code for St Louis’s biggest airport is STL.
Oooops!
Alas still no direct flight from London.
There,s no direct flight from Calgary either
Those damn logistics. . . . I wonder if Chicago is the hub for international travel to STL? Tony Mast will probably know. We should summon him.
Minimum of 2 stops, so more options for it to go wrong.
So the options currently on the table:
~Archon/Sausagefest in Oct
~Phoenix in May
~Phoenix in July
Any other suggestions? There’d also been some talk about doing San Diego.
Hubs that get to STL depend on what airline you are bringing into Lambert Airport (St. Louis’s big airport). If TWA were still in existence, you could probably fly direct, as STL was a hub back then. For AA I think it’s Chicago or Dallas, for Delta, I think it’s Atlanta. Those are just what I know off the top of my head.
Archon is normally the first weekend in October, but because of the oddity of the first weekend falling on Columbus weekend, they pushed it back. 2017 it was Sept 29-Oct 1. 2018 is October 12-14. The con website is http://archonstl.org/
There are a few different Archon specific FB groups that I can point people to, or I can answer any other questions folks might have about the con, St. Louis, hotels, dining, attractions, etc.
I have one stop in Minneapolis. Almost a six hour travel time. Not the same as Van’s but still a long day for me.
Honestly, the best month of the three is July. At first I was against it because of the particular weekend but, upon thinking about it, hubby will be off so can deal with things at home. That being said, I can make pretty much all the weekends mentioned work
Well, if it ends up being July, then I’m not opposed to discussing a MMMeetup in San Diego, instead of Phoenix.
Obviously, that drive is much longer with a baby, but it’s not impossible.
There is a direct flight to San Diego from London, so that is cool.
Why SAN Diego?
Alas won’t be travelling this year. Cheers to you all. And thanks for all the fish….
I’ve never seen the Star Trek Animated series, but wow.
I’ve seen this episode, but it may have been close to 40 years ago.
So, I think at this point I could swing the May, July, or October proposed dates.
Woot!
I’d have to check with T Cat, but I think our preference might be May in Phoenix. Not sure yet. October might be fine for St. Louis.
Still up for doing the Meteor Crater trip if we do Phoenix this year?
There. The house has been de-Christmased
It will have to wait until this weekend for us.

I do not approve of the cold.
No sir. Don’t like it.
What cold does everyone speak of?
It was 8 degrees this morning here in the land of heat and humidity and didn’t make it out of the 20’s.
Looks like we will continue to be below freezing for the next 3 days.
Been following this. Slightly misleading article as it makes it sound like Salt Lake got trounced in court. They didn’t. San Diego levied (I think) nearly 10 charges against Salt Lake, nearly all were thrown out or wildy shrunken. But yeah this was the biggest one. Salt Lake I think can claim some kind of moral victory by only having to pay 20K, but this is some Anheiser Busch level bullshit from San Diego. This, with them fucking over Mile High Comics (a staple at the con and one of the biggest vendors since 1973) and giving no fucks when Mile High pulled out of the con for good, makes me hope for a crash and burn of this out of control behemoth.
I won’t be able to make a mmmmmeet up this year. Mrs. Roaming Asshat and I are (hopefully) taking a trip to Scotland for our 25 year anniversary. That’s going to soak up all our travel money.
Priorities!
The big question: will you be able to get bottles home from Scotland?
I’ll get ’em home. Have to check international restrictions, but I got a good case of full bottles home from Amsterdam. Scotland shouldn’t be too different.
A beautiful country, but more noted for it’s whisky than beer
Hey Rhett, your Secret Santa gift came in the mail today.
You should have seen hubby’s eyes light up when I pulled the game from the box. He said “That is so awesome! I was going to buy that game myself.”
Thank you from the both of us. It’s perfect
Glad it finally made it to you, I was getting nervous. I think I mailed it the first week of December. LOL
“Sometimes you want to watch a film but you don’t feel like streaming, or watching one you own, or purchasing one, or borrowing one from a friend, or finding one on cable, or driving down to the theater, or illegally downloading one, and that’s where we come in.”
Planet Earth II is outstanding.
Watching two Golden Eagles fighting over a carcass is amazing.
Haven’t read it and I have to admit that without Alan Moore’s input (even though he is a bit of a dick) I’m lukewarm to the concept. “Watchmen” kind of stands apart from the DC Universe and to shoehorn it in seems unnecessary. I believe that Moore wanted to use the Justice League characters originally, but that is beside the point. I’d be more excited if someone reworked Watchmen as a Justice League story in this case. But I am still open to reading it if it gets good reviews.
Creating a sequel to an excellent story that doesn’t need a sequel? Nope. I have no interest. And while Moore can be a huge ass, without some input from him, I’m even less inclined to read it.
I think someone just wants a free ride on Moore’s coat tails.
I tried starting them, but they did that horrible DC thing where they were releasing them all at the same time so you had to buy something like 6-8 comics a month to keep up. They did the same thing when they got the rights to Hannah Barbera stuff. Drives me crazy.
I do look forward to the Scooby Doo-Rorschach team up.
ruh-roh!
All of the recent extra Watchmen material has felt like a calculated cash grab.
Watchmen is art, this looks suspiciously like product.
Francis and the Lights’ “May I have this dance” sounds like a horribly wrong genetic experiment where Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel had an 80’s love child and the thing has escaped the lab to wreak havoc upon my years.
*shudder*
Are Mike + The Mechanics the lab assistants?
Wouldn’t that put a bow on a horrifying experience? 😉

I enjoyed Molly’s Game, still haven’t got a clue about Poker.
So, I wouldn’t normally post anything from Mashable, but given this particular content, I figured some of the Deadpan musical contingent would have some thoughts:
Yesterday morning at the rink. You can see Tiffany and me in the stands. Sophie’s not one the kids hamming it up for the camera, she’s on the ice in the background with her teacher.
Cool. Literally!
Moon landing deniers never cease to amaze
Maybe we can compromise with them and agree that humans have been on the moon, but that it’s flat.
And really really really fuck you Sauder dresser. Humans have been making these things to hold clothes and hide shit for hundreds of years, and this is the best you can do??
A good dresser’s Ikea one
A good dresser aint the one that makes you bleed
I watched Bright tonight. It was enjoyable. A bit of a slow start and heavy-handed at times, but pretty good once it hit its stride. I agree with one reviewer that it is best just to turn your brain off for this one.
I figured it was one big hit you over the head social analogy. But if its actiony Ill do it
Not really glowing praise, but I’m still interested in it. I’ll watch when I’m done with my bout of Wil Smith fatigue, if that day ever comes.

Hubby and I did an inventory. We have 252 games and expansions.
I think we may have a problem
My only complaint with that is wanting more games for our shelf.
So I have started “Peaky Blinders”. Seen first two episodes and I believe I shall continue.
Went to see “The Greatest Showman”. Was a little “herky jerky” trying to get going but about a third of the way through it hit it’s stride and was fun. Spoiler – if you don’t like musicals you will hate this.
catching up – I am enthralled by the apparent battle that Jack is locked in with home furnishings. So far he seems to have emerged victorious but it’s early innings yet.
I kinda want to throw a Kylo Ren tantrum at them.
To clarify! The tantrum would be at the furniture, not the Peaky Blinders.
Fun fact. Not only was the X-Files season premier one of the stupidest X-Files episodes ever….but maybe one of the stupidest hours of t.v. ever. Fuck me running.
I’m actually angry at what this show has become. Give me seasons 8 and 9 over this shit ant day.
“Shit Ant Day”. The name of our debut album.
Man, how many debut albums are we going to have?
Well, we’ll be changing our name a lot.
I agree with Lo. That was a dumb season opener for XFiles.
Hmmmm – for perspective, how does this compare to “Inhumans”.
Oh, this was at least watchable with characters you still enjoy seeing on screen. Barely… but watchable.

Back to work for the Bunny household today. :ermm:
Huzzah! Another box set put together.
Next up, December accounting followed by royalties.
I greatly enjoyed TLJ way more the second time around.
How long until ep IX?
I understood it a lot better the 2nd time when all of the porgs melded together to form the giant kaiju mechaporg.

The Long Jumper?
Tuskan Lubricated Jelly?
PS Plus members should checkout the freebies this month. There are a lot more than the normal 2 games. Some good stuff there.
What did North America get? No great shakes this side of the pond.
Darksiders 2
Forma.8
Telltale’s first season of Batman
Psycho-Pass Mandatory Happiness
Deus Ex
Darksiders and Deus Ex are both good games the others I haven’t played so can’t give an opinion
Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel tie-in with the anime Psycho-Pass. I liked it though some people might not care for visual novels. Anything I’ve played from Telltale has been good. I haven’t played the Batman series yet, but the Fables and Walking Dead series have been a lot of fun.

Teaching myself and there are loads of tutorials and on-line manuals and such … but inevitably when a newbie starts coding they come up with ways of misunderstanding things that (apparently) never occurred to those writing the instructions.
Yep. That was awesome. Barbara Streisand’s and Oprah’s speeches were excellent.
Judging by the internet talk today, it sounds like the evening all more about female empowerment and the rejection of the old-guard predatory male hierarchy. And maybe Oprah’s first campaign speech for 2020?
Yep. The right wing are already openly mocking her, and a segment of left wing are already pointing out that simply being a successful business leader doesn’t make you qualified to be president of a country. Sigh.
Morning Pan
This bunny gets to see the dentist later this morning.
The weatherman says it’s going to get stupid cold again later this week. Oh joy.
One of those days when my calendar is booked solid with meetings from 8:30 to 3, including the “lunch” (ha!) hour. Double-booked in some places.
I’ll never understand the people who revel in this kind of thing.
I know how you feel. It’s exhausting, isn’t it.
The worst part is the headset hair.
It was rather foggy out there

No but China is on the rise.
That sucks balls.

We played the boardgame, Evolution: The Beginning.
We had no clue what we were doing and because of that, Jack kept learning from my mistakes. He “evolved” and won.
It was fun getting my carnivore to eat all of Tiffany’s species. *
*Not a double entendre.
We bought “Escape from 100 Million BC” and “Clank! In Space!”
I won the first game of CIS, and in Escape, we managed to return to the future with out any changes to the timeline, except that we all thought our journey back in time was a dream.
Got your Christmas Card Amy, thanks you.
Any consensus on the dates I should try and get off for the meetup?
December sales entered. Next up, bank reconciliations.
I went into accounting why now?
Time for lunch!
I’m bored
Time for a movie!
Ok. Here’s what we’re watching…
the Diabolical
When polterexperiences turn ugly, investigate. And remember: some evi entities don’t respect science
Here we go…
Bedroom, night
Down the stairs
Asleep at her computer
Hey! I know this actress. She’s been in a few things
What’s that noise?
Chilly
Boy, things deteriorated quickly
And there’s the opening credits
Wow, those were long opening credits
He’s a ghost hunter
I don’t think he’s a very good ghost hunter
And he’s done
Oh boy, the spirit is talking to the little girl. How original
Fish!
Jacob, you’re a bad boy
What did he do?
Science!
Killing eggs in the name of science
A skeleton named Jon bon jovi
The sound is really screwy on this movie. I’m constantly playing with volume
Jacob needs a midnight snack
Seriously, turn on a light
That’s not a snack, that’s a midnight meal
Time stands still
His foot is bleeding
It wasn’t dad
He wants to move
They want to buy her house
They are picking on his sister
Get control of your anger
The future is overrated
Here we are
Time to suck face
Egging the house
It doesn’t like the kids egging its place
She doesn’t want to tell him the house is haunted
The ghost is hiding his keys
Toys gone wild
Hands across the ceiling
At this point, I would leave the house
The kids are infected
The house won’t let them leave
Another ghost hunter
Sorry, not ghost hunter, doctor
She’s zoned out
Google tell me what’s happening
Laundry time
You’re as behind as we say you are
The dryer started itself. I wish mine would do that
She’s breaking up with him
Playing connect four
It’s peeling it’s face
Boyfriend say it
Saw not say
A flash of light
Time to science the shit out of this
Carl lends him equipment
Get a lawyer
A flash denotes energy
10,000 frames per second
Waiting for the ghost
The ghost wants to play too
Here he comes
A ghost can feel pain?
Time to clean up
The ghost left his fingers behind
More science stuff
He has a logo
Her boyfriend was part of the ghost project
Numbers
He’s coming from the future
Making weapons
Those ghosts are in for a surprise
The ghost is angry
Stabbing the ghost
The police to the rescue
Or not
Ghosts are evil
But they can be shot
More police
Mom needs to go
Far out, man
She went into the light
That’s a cool twist
And now…
It changes?
Hmmm. Interesting movie
The first two thirds, maybe 3/4, are about what you would expect.
And, to be honest, I really should have seen the twist. I’m usually better at it. But still, I didn’t see it so the movie ended on a better note than it started
“Polterexperiences.”
JW: The Shape of Water
Very good but I may be getting prudish as I age as I felt I didn’t need to see the Sally Hawkins character masturbate .
We were the only people under 65 in the theater for that.
There are musical instrument and then there is this:
The Battle For Hogwarts deck building game has become exceptionally difficult at Level 4. (There are seven levels in the base game.)
The friendly co-op game is causing our family (well, our Hogwarts heroes) to turn on each other.
Oppugno!
Has anyone else played this one? It’s a fun challenge.
It’s cold. I don’t want to work. I just want to curl up in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of tea and a book
I just want to bang on the drum all day.
The Astronomy Cast has done a fabulous end of the year wrap up with “Best Modern SciFi for the Science Lover”. A four part series of book, movie, and TV recommendations. I really loved it.
Looks like I’m going to get my wish. I need more information before I can go any further.
🙁 RIP Fast Eddie. Reunited at last with Lemmy and Philthy.
Still reading Bruce Dickinson’s autobiography. Still interesting, if scattered at times. Forget the Dos Equis guy; Bruce is The Most Interesting Man in the World.
Although, reading inspired me to go back and re-listen to his solo “Tattooed Millionaire” album. And yep, it’s still bad.
Skip “Tattooed Millionaire”, “Accident of Birth” and “The Chemical Wedding” are excellent.
Reading that sentence made my brain hurt. I think there actually should have been a semicolon in there….which I only know thanks to Crammer Girl.
Scroll Angels is done. “Scroll For Initiative” is up on a new page.
Oh sure, Rhettro commits a slaughter of the English language and Jack is all too willing to cover it up by shuffling on to a new page.
I see right through you, Mr. Mangan!!!!!
I’m doing my part as an American to slaughter the English language.

The new season of Agents of Shield has begun.
Working getting caught up on some media.
Here you go, Ed:

I got my Deadpan Secret Santa gift in the mail today! Thank you very much, Dark Lord Mangan! 😉
I hope you enjoy it, Darth Bowen!

I love (most) of QOTSA. I love LOVE all of Kyuss… but Josh Homme has proven time and time again to be one of rock’s biggest assholes.
https://www.avclub.com/video-shows-queens-of-the-stone-ages-josh-homme-apparen-1821165922
Wooooooooot

Crap joke for the day:
During the communist-era period in Russia, a husband and wife are taking a walk; during winter time. The husband says “oh, it’s starting to snow ”, his wife is insistent that it’s actually raining; not snowing . As they continue their walk, they spot a soldier familiar to them. When they approach the soldier, they ask him if he thinks it’s snowing or raining. His opinion is that’s its raining . Rather smugly the wife turns to the husband and says “see, I told you! For Rudolph the Red knows rain dear”.
Your coat sir.

So a recent FB Bjorking set me to thinking (always dangerous)…
So here is Friday’s topic for pondering –
TOP 5 PROBABLY INSANE BUT CERTAINLY BONKERS, WOMEN WHO ARE ALSO POSSIBLY MUSICAL GENIUSES.
Chelsea Wolfe perhaps, she’s a genius, but I’m not sure of the crazy, although she has the “look,”
https://tinyurl.com/y9w759kl
Ditto Kimberly Freeman, genius? Perhaps, Crazy? It could be deliberate.
https://tinyurl.com/yd88w73w

The Netflix write up: he opposes demons in all their malevolent forms, but his faith will be tested when he confronts the very source of evil .
It sure where the “zero” come in, though

Why do possessed people always walk from a back bend?
They are literally nailing her to a cross.
My name is Lucas Vidal
Two boys producing a movie
He zoned out for a moment
They want to film a real exorcism
The priest tells his story…
A family at the table
The crazy lady says they are doomed. Doomed, I fell ya, doomed
Where did his shirt go?
A full moon
A Volkswagen
A stowaway
Don’t let the fathers actions allow the son to be possessed
Shaky cam effect

HA!!!!
Daddy’s head exploded
Time to pray
Woah, was he praying a long time
He’s reading something funny
The exorcists are considered crazy
They want an apprentice
He’s tired
It’s the same crazy lady
Daddy was possessed
Helping the lady across the street
My mother is dead
Night
What a trip
That’s a pretty comfy looking bed.
Come meet me for an exorcism
Open the box
It was blessed by the pope
You have been blessed
Why is it, 90% of the time, it’s females that are possessed?
Father Pedro is toast
Tell me how Pedro died…
I will teach you
Oh look, another possessed woman
Paula isn’t here anymore
An old friend
Oh. Paula is Lucas’s sister
He doesn’t believe them
Make an effort
What did you say?
She’s sucking her own toe
Well, that didn’t work
His mentor has a plan
The demon wants his mentor
We need more sedative
Little sister has been made better
Mom however…
You’re supposed to use the sedative on the possessed, not yourself
He sees his dead daddy
Don’t let him take your picture, it will steal your soul
See, what did I tell you
Shut up
Father Lucas is now possessed
I will defecate on you
Demons also seem to like licking people
You’re not my father
Now he is nailing Lucas to the cross
Your brother was a better man
The interview is over
Sneaking back in
Yeah Bruno, this won’t end well
The demon jumped ship
Now his friend knows
And the circle continues…
What did I think of this movie? It was ok. It didn’t add anything new to the genre, but it wasn’t completely derivative either. I’d put it in the middle of the pack

FYI. Approx 2.5 cm in an inch
http://www.onlineconversion.com/
9.44882 inches of snow can be messy. 🙁 Be safe.
And happy birthday, John!
But surely not as messy as…

A licky boom boom down.

Going to see the Last Jedi againnin the morning.
How many ‘n’s are you taking with you?
I think this baby likes to twerk

And now I have to check out Zeal and Ardor…

You may have a signed agreement with Mega Tech over who owns your stored data and who they share that with … but if you wake up in the morning and Mega Tech has been bought out by Giga Data, they are not necessarily bound by the agreement you signed with a company that no longer exists.

http://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-has-trump-golfed-gone-to-mar-a-lago-2017-12

Um?
https://www.avclub.com/bono-declares-modern-music-very-girly-1821627351?

And thanks for all the fish….
https://www.comic-con.org/cci
So July not a good idea as the place will crowded and accomadation expensive?
Good point. . . . although I think(??) we’d be safe from the upped prices and the crowds if we went the week before ComicCon.

That’s some bullshit right there.
Scotland shouldn’t be too different.

https://www.wired.com/story/doomsday-clock-watchmen-justice-league/?mbid=nl_010317_daily_list1_p4
“Inside DC’s Controversial Watchmen and Justice League Crossover”
Thoughts?
Not to mention the massive prequels in Before Watchmen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Before_Watchmen

So, I wouldn’t normally post anything from Mashable, but given this particular content, I figured some of the Deadpan musical contingent would have some thoughts:
http://mashable.com/2018/01/05/nirvana-major-key-smells-like-teen-spirit/?utm_cid=mash-com-fb-main-link#Lhb_tLDJSqqV
Personally, while I’m full on Gen-X, I never did get the appeal of Nirvana.
Intrigued
You never got the appeal….of… oh COME ON Ed!
“Instead of the moody, rage-filled hit, it sounds like a song off of Weezer’s recent albums.”
This. ONE THOUSAND TIMES this.
Who knew that Billy Idol had a tribute band? Who performs…. “Don’t You Forget About Me”…..
Check FB for pictures. The guy looks exactly like the real thing, minus the cocaine crust on his nostril.
…and now it is The Cured’s turn.
This guy portraying Robert Smith is just awful.
total bummer
You probably shouldn’t have a stage banner image of Robert Smith looking unimpressed, if you’re a Cure cover band, however appropriate it may be.
True dat
Strangelove are a pretty great Depeche Mode cover band. They even did “It’s No Good” !!! Take that, real Depeche Mode.
Morning Pan
Another Saturday, another evening gaming. Today’s fare will include Space Truckers, Seven Wonders, and Car Wars
I used to love Car Wars and GUROS Car Wars! (as I say every time you mention it)
Oh is Car Wars really old , like 80’sold?
Ignore I was thinking of Battlecars.
Car Wars is 80s old, though. Yes. Possibly 70s. . . ?

He just bites it he dont light it
Excellent night at Pepsi Center. Milan Hejduk’s number retired and the Avs desrtoyed the Wild.
Jesus take the wheel, I’ve discovered a whole “season” of Rifftrax on the Shout Factory AppleTV app.
NO TIME!!!!!!!! No….time…

Hubby and I did an inventory. We have 252 games and expansions.
I think we may have a problem
https://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/Gedrak00713
That’s a lot of games. And a lot rated as 9s.
Yeah, hubby tends to like most of them.
Morning Pan
Back to work for the Bunny household today. :ermm:
Huzzah! Another box set put together.
Next up, December accounting followed by royalties.
I greatly enjoyed TLJ way more the second time around.
How long until ep IX?
I understood it a lot better the 2nd time when all of the porgs melded together to form the giant kaiju mechaporg.
(fake spoiler)
Call for assistance –
Do we have any Deadpanites with experience in C++ or more specifically, Arduino ?
Teaching myself and there are loads of tutorials and on-line manuals and such … but inevitably when a newbie starts coding they come up with ways of misunderstanding things that (apparently) never occurred to those writing the instructions.
Lots of C++, no Ardunio.

Work done. Lunch eaten.
GOD DAMMIT I love her
https://www.avclub.com/please-enjoy-natalie-portman-making-the-all-male-best-d-1821874858
Sigh.

NOT crap poetry. Cassandra Khaw was a happy discovery for me last year.

It was rather foggy out there
CP: Damn it, Rose — Don Henley
Guys ! 2018 is 9 days old and I just got a dental bill for 10k because my insurance refused to cover emergeny surgery for my kiddo! Omg time to fight.
Nobody gonna show you the way now
Nobody gonna hold your hand no
Nobody gonna show you the way now
Devil is fine
Is America great again yet?
No but China is on the rise.
That sucks balls.
I may have to!!!!
Hmmm:

Morning Pan
That’s all I got
December sales entered. Next up, bank reconciliations.
I went into accounting why now?
Time for lunch!
I’m bored
Time for a movie!
Ok. Here’s what we’re watching…
the Diabolical
When polterexperiences turn ugly, investigate. And remember: some evi entities don’t respect science
Here we go…
Bedroom, night
Down the stairs
Asleep at her computer
Hey! I know this actress. She’s been in a few things
What’s that noise?
Chilly
Boy, things deteriorated quickly
And there’s the opening credits
Wow, those were long opening credits
He’s a ghost hunter
I don’t think he’s a very good ghost hunter
And he’s done
Oh boy, the spirit is talking to the little girl. How original
Fish!
Jacob, you’re a bad boy
What did he do?
Science!
Killing eggs in the name of science
A skeleton named Jon bon jovi
The sound is really screwy on this movie. I’m constantly playing with volume
Jacob needs a midnight snack
Seriously, turn on a light
That’s not a snack, that’s a midnight meal
Time stands still
His foot is bleeding
It wasn’t dad
He wants to move
They want to buy her house
They are picking on his sister
Get control of your anger
The future is overrated
Here we are
Time to suck face
Egging the house
It doesn’t like the kids egging its place
She doesn’t want to tell him the house is haunted
The ghost is hiding his keys
Toys gone wild
Hands across the ceiling
At this point, I would leave the house
The kids are infected
The house won’t let them leave
Another ghost hunter
Sorry, not ghost hunter, doctor
She’s zoned out
Google tell me what’s happening
Laundry time
You’re as behind as we say you are
The dryer started itself. I wish mine would do that
She’s breaking up with him
Playing connect four
It’s peeling it’s face
Boyfriend say it
Saw not say
A flash of light
Time to science the shit out of this
Carl lends him equipment
Get a lawyer
A flash denotes energy
10,000 frames per second
Waiting for the ghost
The ghost wants to play too
Here he comes
A ghost can feel pain?
Time to clean up
The ghost left his fingers behind
More science stuff
He has a logo
Her boyfriend was part of the ghost project
Numbers
He’s coming from the future
Making weapons
Those ghosts are in for a surprise
The ghost is angry
Stabbing the ghost
The police to the rescue
Or not
Ghosts are evil
But they can be shot
More police
Mom needs to go
Far out, man
She went into the light
That’s a cool twist
And now…
It changes?
Hmmm. Interesting movie
The first two thirds, maybe 3/4, are about what you would expect.
And, to be honest, I really should have seen the twist. I’m usually better at it. But still, I didn’t see it so the movie ended on a better note than it started
“Polterexperiences.”
JW: The Shape of Water
Very good but I may be getting prudish as I age as I felt I didn’t need to see the Sally Hawkins character masturbate .
We were the only people under 65 in the theater for that.
There are musical instrument and then there is this:
https://youtu.be/wv5JWHxVfag
This is a Justin Beiber song I can get into
