  1. Dude, seriously I totally have insomnia I should be sleeping I’m looking at the pound to see comments amanda comments so there are no commentsduddujd. Ps I’m writing this from my phone and it’s gonna say weird stuff just f y I

  2. The words “touch screen mechanic” gave rise to all sorts of pictures in my mind.

Maybe I should have a cold shower, not a warm one.

  3. Is it wrong of me, as I’m opening the curtains of my living room, to look out at the poor shivering people out in the frigid cold, making their way to the train station and go, “Ha Ha! I don’t have to leave the house”

  4. Nope Van. I have the kind of job where I decide when I want to take the train downtown. As long as it’s cold and yucky outside, I decide not.

  5. I don’t know Van, being ill has it’s perks. When I do go out it will be straight to a pre-warmed car that hubby has started and cleared beforehand. From there to a warm store. Walking to/from anywhere in the cold is not something I miss.

  6. Nope. Last week had a holiday in the middle so the doctor took the week off. I left a couple of messages yesterday but they haven’t been returned. This (waiting) seems to be par for the course here.

  7. Ah snow….. yes it is going to be 67 here. After a bitter couple of days that will feel heavenly. Its why I live here. Also, cause my job is here.

  8. “Members of the Westboro Baptist Church said they want revenge after someone slashed the tires on their van during visit to protest a military funeral in McAlester. The group said it plans to now target funerals for Oklahoma children.”

Mighty xtian of them. Again. Revenge is indeed what Jesus taught.

“Turn the other cheek… then kick them in the Medamn nuts”

  9. Anyway, on a nicer topic:

    The Palooza suggestions so far:

    Bladerunner
    Conan
    Xanadu
    Legend

Plus the list from this past summer:

High Fidelity (Nick Hornby book and film)
    The Third Man
    Near Dark
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (could cover the book, movie[s], etc.)
The Dark Knight Returns (Graphic Novel)
    Popeye (1980)
Dark Star (No, we shouldn’t do this one again)
    Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter)
    Buckaroo Banzai
Dune (book, film[s], games, sequels, etc.)

  10. You know the two most memorable Skinimax movies to me are “Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers” and “Perfect Timing.” Only one of these is on DVD and neither is available via Netflix. This is a travesty I say!

  11. I did listen to a little of The Black Angels last night and I liked what I heard. Evidently they are the bed music for the Fable 3 advertisment.

  12. CP: Drive — R.E.M.

    Bunny: I don’t think I’ll be playing Fable 3.

Rhettro: Good to know. I’ve heard a bit from them but haven’t really checked them out yet.

  13. Finally heard the latest full episode of LLAP. Their talking about social podcasting. Isn’t DP a social podcast? Maybe i have a different idea of a social podcast but It sure feels social to me

  14. Hubby just called. He managed to sneak out of a meeting that was on this end of town early. Normally head office is about 15 – 20 minutes from our home. I don’t expect him home until the top of the hour earliest, given current conditions

  15. id you know the first time you were in my sight
And did you know that look that I threw at you
And did you know my love will never die

And did you know I can’t do this without laughing
And did you know no matter where it takes us now
And did you know our love will never die

The pretend season that we fill
    With cartoons and forever plans
I’ve seen it in your eyes
    I will be satisfied

And did you know electricity favors us
And did you know I’m not reading into anything
And did you know our love will never die

I will run away, I will run away, I will run
I will run away, I will run away, I will run
    Our love will never die
    I will be satisfied

And did you know my glass is never empty
And did you know I’m not as fragile as I thought
And did you know my love will never die

  16. Medical hijinks abound. I’m getting tested for sleep apnea, and having varicose veins removed from my leg. The latter was likely responsible for a hobbling foot issue, now that they’ve ruled out diabetes. I schedule the sleep study tomorrow, and Monday I’ll be in the initial consult with the vein surgeon.

  17. I’d also advance “Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road” as a palooza candidate, though I’m probably the only one who has seen it…

  18. JB would have been covered under the Obama healthcare bill.
Sadly for America (and the humans who live there), that bill was never passed.

What we got resembles what Obama wanted very, very little.

  19. Ahh, makes me so happy to live in the district that re-elected teabag nutjob Michelle Bachmann.

Seriously though, the folks in my neighborhood who likely voted her in are the most Libertarian-leaning people I have met since living in Montana.

  20. Also, most of the benefits of “Obamacare” don’t hit until 2014. What we do have now (starting 1/1/11) is:

    -no more lifetime maximum benefits
-parents can cover adult children to the age of 26 now, regardless of if the child is a student or not
-no more co-pays for preventative care (prostate exams, lady annual exams)

/what I learned at the Evil, Inc. HR presentation on benefits for next year

  21. Also,

    CW: The Event . . . meh

TGIF! I have only 2 workdays next week. I’m in a groove at work where I have too much to do to with a short week coming up, but I’m still happy about the Thanksgiving holiday next week.

  22. Todays Episode of Nerd Hurdles is titled “A Whole Lotta LOTR Lovin”.

I immediately deleted in from my que. As a matter of fact, Im about to unsubscribe from it as well as 90% of the Simply Syndicated family of podcasts Im subscribed to. Getting god god awful. I will ALWAYS recommend and listen to Masters of None, however. So so good.

*steps off soapbox, looks around. echo.*

  23. I’ll be passing out shortly myself. Working a full OT shift overnight tonight. Meanwhile, worked the overnight last night, but can’t go to sleep as I’m waiting for a return call to set up, of all things, my sleep study.

My daysleeping has been generally poor, so the doc has me on Ambien. Didn’t seem to do much the first time yesterday. I joked to Darcy that with the operating daycare upstairs there’s not too much likelihood of me sleepwalking upstairs and eating raw hamburger…

  24. I can remember when the South Park “Christmas Card” short first got sent through the interwebs to start that whole dynasty (yes, I AM that old).
I can remember watching it in fascinated horror. It was so wonderfully wrong.
I couldn’t turn away and yet … I knew that if I kept watching, an engine pylon was going to fall off of a passing jet airliner and come crashing through the roof and strike me dead.

Now I am off to find some “Excedrin Migraine” tablets.

  25. ditto: Thanks. 🙂

Good wishes to Coathalia for her birthday as well.

Yes I remember the first raw Ren & Stimpy shows.

I remember that a co-worker of mine in a different office had a plastic Cartman figure. If you pushed on it it would curse at you. That was in 1998. *shudder*

  26. Essbee, can you remember which executive it was that ordered that SP short? He told the guys to do something fun/different and paid them like $500. I think he got his money’s worth but I’m trying to remember who “he” was. Had to have some hutzpah to send “that” out as a Christmas card.

That was also in the infancy of AVI files so it was really kind of ground breaking in that aspect. The idea of sending out movies that you could play on your computer was new and exciting.

  27. Van – re: homemade anarchy components.
At least you had the common sense not to mention that the final ingredient needed (apart from a rental van) is fuel oil.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go see what that noise is. Sounds like a helicopter has just come to hover over my house.

  28. Speaking of “killed” … I finally got around to watching the “Dr. Who” version of The Craig Fergason show. (I think it’s called The Late Late Show)

    That dude is not right.

  29. One of my favorite “contents of” was when Bunny did her spam folder. I still giggle about that. Here’s a subject line from my spam:

If yoour peins waas worknig agian you’d defniitely be hap-py maan

  30. From Van’s link:
“Somehow, Verne predicted that the astronauts would become weightless in space. There was no way he could have known that at the time”

Considering that Newton’s Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica came out something like 200 years before Verne’s book, I think Verne might have had some idea of gravity and that it would diminish with distance.

  31. I was having my daughter help me and, therefore, following the recipe. Silly me, I forgot the secret ingredient. But it’s all OK, it was a highly experimental pie anyway. We’ll make more regular ones for Thanksgiving.

  32. • Warning: Pregnant women, the elderly, and children under 10 should avoid prolonged exposure to Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie.
    • Caution: Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.
    • Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie contains a liquid core, which, if exposed due to rupture, should not be touched, inhaled, or looked at.
    • Do not use Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie on concrete.
    • Discontinue use of Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie if any of the following occurs:
    o itching
    o vertigo
    o dizziness
    o tingling in extremities

    • Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie may stick to certain types of skin.

Failure to do so relieves the makers of Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie, Wacky Products Incorporated, and its parent company, Global Chemical Unlimited, of any and all liability.

    • Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie has been shipped to our troops in Saudi Arabia and is also being dropped by our warplanes on Iraq.
    • Do not taunt Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie.
    • Highly Experimental Pumpkin Pie comes with a lifetime guarantee.

  33. Trying to remember the actual product inthe fake commercial from snl that UH is quoting. Like happy fun ball or something.

So I am indeed going to be in Phx dec. 10-12. My gay rugby team will be playing the Phx gay rugby team, the. Drinking copious amounts of beer after. Any ph dp-it’s wanna meet up??

  34. “Good Morning

I am a little disappointed that most discussions have to be initiated by myself as your office seems unwilling to volunteer information regarding diagnosis and treatment.

We are now approaching three weeks since my MRI and inquiries on how best to move forward have gone unanswered. I understand you see many patients. If you feel you are too busy to handle my case or that you feel my case no longer falls under your purview please let me know so I may take appropriate action to move my diagnoses and/or treatment forward accordingly.

I’m sure you understand, nobody likes to feel ignored or abandoned, especially when they are unwell.

    Thank you for your time”

  35. Sounds pitch perfect to me Bunny. That robot dog isn’t as effective as Dog Meat, I don’t like him as much.

Jack: Give me a call after Jeremy gives you a call.

  36. Rhett, we should definitely get the girls together again one of these days.

Bunny, I think your angry letter is exactly right.

I am still exploring Vika’s page and finding great stuff. The classical version of Raining Blood is fantastic.

  37. Re: Van’s link.

So here’s the thing about TSA’s “Security Theatre”,
In their effort to appear to be doing something to stop well organized, well planned out terrorist attacks … they have created a MUCH higher value terrorist target.

Think about it, if a guy were to blow up one aircraft he could kill hundreds of people.
Now though, courtesy of the TSA, we have all the occupants of multiple aircraft standing un-protected, packed together like sardines. A baddie could easily carry a good old fashoned, “no tech”, IRA type nail bomb into the center of that crowd and set it off.
Not only could you have a MUCH higher body count BUT if you take out all of the screeners and screening equipment at a major US airport, you would effectively shut it down. Do that to Atlanta or Chicago or a few others and you will have crippled the entire nations air travel for days.
That … and truly make people afraid to even get near an airport.

So I guess we have to continue hoping that the “bad guys” don’t take a moment to asses the situation because clearly the TSA has not.

  38. I don’t know Jack, the last time we got CJ and TEB together there was a lot of drunken shenanigans. Or were you talking about our daughters?

  39. I would say that they were too close to call. LOL

I’ve been insanely busy of late, with my regular job deciding to pick up one week after I started working weekends on my part time job. With the holidaze upon us and my folks visiting, it may be a while for the next kid get together. I would think things will start easing up mid-January. We can talk about it when we see Jeremy when he comes to town.

  40. That Dixie Chicks singer is a cute one . . .

I read in EW that The Wheel of Time series is now up to 9,000 pages. The latest novel is #1. I’m about 1/4 of the way through it.

  41. Oh yeah! “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest” was a really satisfying ending. I’m pretty pleased with the way it resolves the stuff from #2.
I’m told that the books are a lot more involved, which is pretty amazing, given just how complex these movies are.

Minus Lo Pan’s incorrect assessment of the second film.

  42. Jack, the books are spectacular. I can’t wait to see the flick. We watched The Girl Who Played With Fire yesterday and really enjoyed it.

  43. CD: Fuller’s 1845 Ale

CL: My Life As a Foodie

Listening to food podcasts is like watching the Food Network, it doesn’t matter how much I ate before I still want to eat more while I’m listening to ’em.

  44. Morning pan! I’m on vacation so posting will be intermittent.

What’s that? How’s that different than usual. Er. Um. Look! Is that Elvis?
    *runs off*

  45. *sigh*
Finally back from the eye doctor.
At 11:30 I began commiserating with the 3 other remaining patients and discovered we ALL had 10:30 appointments with the good doctor. *Heavy sigh*

The rest of the day may get better though.
Hoping to finally bottle the batch of Pumpkin Ale that my mate and I brewed 3 weeks ago.

    My house smells like paint.

  46. I once heard on a science program that Canada would be one of the few countries to benefit from climate change as it would make our land more of a temperate zone.

Ok, I’m ready for that to start now

  47. Just to go trivial for the moment.

Completed Halo 2 this week, was more impressive than I remembered.

May play the original Halo to get in the mood for Halo:Reach

  48. if a large group of squirrels doesn’t have a name yet i would like to nominate squadron.

I have a squadron of squirrels out side. at least 14 of them.

it just seams to fit and i hate alteration too

  49. CP Crash (into me) – The Gufs
    way better than DMB’s version
I ofter wonder if they for got to include Dave’s middle name
it is ulysses in case you where wondering

  50. So, can anyone here who downloads mp3 files from Amazon.com tell me how I actually get the file?
According to “My Account” I purchased this item today. I can even view the invoice.
I can’t find the track anywhere on my computer though.
    It makes me sad.
I want to launch a flaming squirrel into sub-orbit.

  51. Twitter depresses me, so many people living far more interesting lives than me, I better read some youtube comments to make make me realise I’m still haven’t dropped to bottomfeeder.

  52. I’ve never been on ice skates and probably never will.

I am looking forward to seeing the show and the “snow” though…

Fake snow is OK by me anytime.
